BOUGAINVILLE/PNG. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1201* cut off,
on May 8. 3260, NBC Madang, 1205* cut off, on May 8; another
day both with equally decent reception, as also observed today
by Dave Valko on the East Coast (USA), with 3260 // 3325, at
0957, with the news.
MALAYSIA. 9835, Sarawak FM, via Kajang (on the west coast
of the Malaysia peninsular), 1311-1402, May 8. Live coverage of
the 60th International Qur'an Recitation and Memorization
competition being held May 7 to 12, at Merdeka Hall, Putra
World Trade Center, Kuala Lumpur; many segments of about
10 minutes with reciting from the Qur'an; a number of women
reciting.
BTW - May 9, is the day of the 14th Malaysian general election,
to vote for members of Parliament. Will RTM have special coverage?
SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC, on May 8. Extended broadcast till
cut off at 1235*; playing pop songs and with announcers, but audio
level so low was unable to make out language; normally goes off
about 1200.
UNIDENTIFIED. 9410-USB + carrier, which I reported hearing yesterday,
was not on the air today (1206+ on May 8). Yesterday a one day only test
of some type?

MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, on May 9, with special coverage
(preempted regular programs); soccer/football game between English
championship team Leeds United vs Myanmar National League All
Stars, played in Yangon; was somewhat controversial, as a number
of people in England had urged the team to cancel the tour, due to
the situation with the Rohingya refugees; certainly sounded like a
TV audio feed, as it was not play-by-play coverage; noted at 1208
UTC. Game not on 5915 (Myanmar Radio) nor 7345 (Thazin Radio)
and unable to hear 6165 (Thazin Radio), due to QRM.

BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, on May 10, with a second day of extended
broadcasting; 1212 till past 1300+; in vernacular; conditions not
as good as yesterday, but clearly two stations mixing together
here; impossible to tell when BBS went off the air (about 1315?),
as today with strong adjacent QRM, as well as the usual QRM
from relay of FM99, via PBS Yunnan, in Chinese; by 1321 definitely
seemed to be only PBS Yunnan here.
BOUGAINVILLE/PNG. This was my May 7 observation for 3260 kHz.
(NBC Madang), "at times slightly better than Bougainville, which is
very rare." I had attributed the improvement to perhaps just better
propagation, but as of May 10, Madang continues to have an infinitely
stronger signal than formerly heard. Dave Valko, on the East Coast
(USA), has also noted the same significant improvement for 3260
and questions if something has in fact changed at NBC Madang to
cause this boost in reception (more power, etc.?). He is right to
question what is happening, as Madang had been very consistent
over the past few years with normally much weaker reception than
Bougainville. Wonder if any Asian DXers have noted similar recent
3260 kHz. reception?
May 10, from 1111 to 1134, with NBC Madang (3260) again better than
normal reception and about equal strength to NBC Bougainville; mostly
discussions in Pidgin; whereas 3325, NBC Bougainville, was mostly pop
songs.
CHINA. 6030, CNR12, noted on May 9, which was their last day here.
On May 10, as scheduled, went back to carrying CNR1 programs; heard
at 1054 and // 6125. Was a nice change to have daily reception of CNR12.
KOREA SOUTH. Echo of Hope - Voice of Hope (VOH), with new developments.
For almost a year, 4885 carried the separate and unique VOH program in Korean,
"Radio Broadcasting Guide," that was not // to any other VOH frequency. On May
10, suddenly found 4885 being // to the primary VOH program on 3985, 5995,
6250, 6350 and 9100. So they have finally dropped the program that consisted
of a series of IDs for all the different stations that were heard in Korea. Now all
the VOH frequencies carry the same program. Both 4885 and 9100 are
frequencies that are never jammed by N. Korea (why?), whereas all the others
are normally jammed.
May 10, noted 1138+, for about 15 minutes with no N. Korea jamming at all,
of any of the VOH frequencies (3985, 4885, 5995, 6250, 6350 and 9100). My
3985 kHz. audio clip at http://goo.gl/sMmqcp , with announcers chatting in
Korean.
May 10, at 1200+, heard 4885 (// to all the other VOH frequencies) with news
items in Korean ("Seoul," "Tokyo," etc.). My audio clip of "Tokyo" items at
http://goo.gl/NdMCuH and as usual with good reception.

AUSTRALIA. May 13, had both 4KZ and Ozy Radio, with the best reception
that I have had in a long time. Some of the news segments close to readable.

1343 - promo for joining Australian Radio DX Club and gave John

1355* - cut off in mid-song (earlier than the usual 1356*).
On May 14, heard 4KZ (5055), 1339+ with ads (almost readable);
gave www site ("can order online"), followed by Lionel Richie -
"Say You Say Me."
BANGLADESH [non-log]. 4750, Bangladesh Betar - HS. On this Monday

certainly seemed BB was off the air; was only hearing CNR1.
CONGO[Republic of]. 6115, Radio Congo (presumed), on May 14, from
0540 to 0556; announcers in French (no music); amazed to find no QRM
from Japan, none at all from RN2, which is very rare. RN2 was on the air as
usual on 9760, but must not have been propagating on 6115?
EQUATORIAL GUINEA. 5005, RNGE, R. Bata, on May 14; nicely above
threshold level audio; 0518-0530 with repetitive African pop music; 0530
announcer (sounded Spanish) and more music till tuned out 0540; decent
audio the whole time, which is rare for me to hear.
MALAYSIA. 11665, Wai FM Limbang, 1315, on May 14 (Monday). Start of
the Monday segment of the "Wai FM Limbang" portion of the RTM broadcast;
pop songs; frequent IDs. Believe these IDs are only used 1315-1400, on
Monday and Thursday, otherwise IDs are just "Wai FM."

AUSTRALIA. 5055, 4KZ, on May 15, again noted 1355*, cut off in mid-song.
BANGLADESH [non-log]. 4750, Bangladesh Betar - HS. May 15, noted for a
second day that they were off the air; 1212+; only hearing the usual CNR1.
KOREA SOUTH. 6045.0, Voice of Freedom, on May 15, noted without the
normal strong 1200-1300 QRM from KNLS (Alaska); 1300 - "Huimang-ine jib"

My audio at http://goo.gl/T37XVd . Decent reception even with pips jamming

in vernacular; singing SA at 1130, then cut off; the whole time // 5985, with that
frequency continuing on 1131+.
SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC (presumed), on May 15, with greatly extended
broadcast; 1326-1350* suddenly off in mid-song; with the expanded anomaly, was
able to actually hear some audio above threshold level; non-stop EZL pop songs
with no announcers, so no SA heard.
TAIWAN. Sound of Hope. Hiroshi-san (Japan), has provided some very helpful
info regarding SOH, at his Japanese website that he updates daily
(http://hiroshi.mediacat-blog.jp/e128658.html). He observes that SOH probably
comes from Taiwan, but that has not been confirmed. Seems frequencies below
7 MHz are on 24 hours a day, while the other seems about 2100-1700. He makes
an interesting comment that he finds CNR1 jamming on about 30% of the SOH
frequencies, and even then is not continuous jamming. Here are the SOH

May 20, 2018 14:22 UTC No.3265
SIKKIM. 4835, AIR Gangtok, from 1240 to past 1305+, on May 20.
Thanks very much to Mick Delmage (Alberta, Canada) for the alert yesterday
(May 19) in WOR iog, that he noted the absence of Ozy Radio here on 4835.
Yes, I found the same absence today; clearly no Ozy Radio. Instead heard
definite audio of announcer with long monologue 1240-1257; sounded Hindi;
at 1257 the start of a very strong hum, that was still going past 1305+.
Fortunately there had been two independent earlier reports of the same
phenomenon. So this certainly is a continuing problem with the AIR
Gangtok transmitter.
First, Jim Young (Calif.) reported to me (April 21): "Concerning 4835 of late.....
Heard carrier (no audio) on 4835.00 at 1233....but at re-check at 1247, heard
more of a buzzing carrier that I suspected was a TX problem. Buzz sound
continued till 1253, when it went off the air. Normal sounding carrier (no
buzz) returned at 1256, and continued to well past 1335... I had heard this
buzzing sound here on previous days this week at about the same time, but
thought it was something other than a broadcast station with problems. AIR
Gangtok?" Appreciate Jim's observations that correspond exactly to the
following report in WRTH Facebook page, from GK, located at Abhayapuri,
Assam, India:
Gautam Kumar Sharma
". . . . An interesting observation on AIR-Gangtok on 4835kHz..sometimes
severe hum noise can be heard on that frequency..with distorted audio...and
then it goes off the air for sometime..and again back on air with no hum .but
after a few days..again the hum can be heard...& ...again back with good
strong signal . . . ."
Thanks very much to Jim and GK, for their most helpful comments.

AUSTRALIA. 5055, 4KZ, 1048-1134, May 26. Mostly pop songs
(Michael McDonald - "What a Fool Believes," Spandau Ballet -
"True," etc.); commercial announcements; 1100-1106 with news,
ad, sea conditions (wind direction & speed, etc.) and "on AM,
FM and shortwave"; very decent signal strength, but up against
heavy QRN (static); without QRN would have been fairly readable.
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1117-1156*, on May 24.
DJ in Pidgin playing pop songs (Chicago - "Hard To Say I'm Sorry,"
etc.); some RRI Palangkaraya QRM.
On May 26, from 1141+, NBC off the air, with only RRI present.
INDONESIA[and non-logs]. 3325, Pro 1 RRI Palangkaraya, 1200,
on May 26. Time pips; into the relay of the Jakarta news, ending
at 1227 with the usual playing of the patriotic song 釘agimu Negeri.・
This continues to be the only Indonesian station on SW!
non-log: During Ramadan, will be checking RRI Ternate (3344.86),
as in past years they did reactivate, but through May 26, not heard
so far.
9525.95 (non-log), VOI, through May 26, still no sign of their return.
KOREA SOUTH. 5920.00, Voice of Freedom, 1236, May 26. Good

no drifting at all.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut),

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1109-1119*, May 27.
Usual Sunday religious programs of mostly music; 1117 "NBC
Bougainville" SA. Early cut off.
On May 28, from 1042 till cut off at 1126*; series of interviews,
one in Pidgin and one in English ("local departments," "co-funding,"
"applications for," "people of Bougainville," etc.); some RRI QRM,
as well as QRN (static). Again earlier than normal closing down
(usually closer to 1200*).
CHINA. 17398-USB, Guangzhou Coast Radio Station, *1059-1104*,

MONGOLIA. 4830, Mongolian Radio 3, on May 28, from 1210+;
nice strong carrier, but no audio; 4895 remains silent, with 7260

there. Also reported to me being heard today by Jim Young (Calif.)

montage of clips from pop songs, along with "NBC Madang" SA;
QRN (static).
RUSSIA[non-log]. 7295 & 7345, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk,

SIKKIM & AUSTRALIA. 4835, AIR Gangtok, at 1315, June 5. Heard with
a very prominent hum; their transmitter has had this problem for over six
weeks now; could just make out some faint audio underneath from Ozy

strong grayline reception.

CHINA. 6035, PBS Yunnan, on June 9, very surprised to hear an
interesting anomaly; instead of the usual FM99 relay that has been
carried here since March, was instead hearing the former "Voice of
Shangri-la" format of non-stop music (no announcers at all), which in
the past was always played when PBS went past their former sign off
time of 1200*.
Today heard the same filler musical loop (instrumental), from 1141 to
past 1241+ UTC.
So perhaps today's anomaly was just the result of the FM99 audio feed
not being available? What will happen tomorrow? Recently the FM99
relay here had been running well past 1400+.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1125-1154*, June 13.
Series of speeches in Pidgin, about "Independence . . . our situation
. . . Bougainville. . ."; mixing badly with RRI (stronger than usual),
which was almost as strong as NBC, along with summertime QRN
(static).
GREECE. 9420, VOG, 0255, June 13. Fair-good reception of their
SAs in Greek & English ("This is Athens. You are listening to the
Voice of Greece"), along with IS and assume National Anthem.
Seems to be a daily feature at this time.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut),
1200-1211*, June 13. Clearly a problem with the Port Moresby audio
feed of the news; a minute of dead air (carrier only), then EZL filler
music (no news at all); 1205 promo for "NBC Radio"; pop Pacific
Islands songs till suddenly cut off in mid-song; decent signal, almost
as strong as the NBC Bougainville signal; along with summertime
QRN (static).
SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC (presumed), on June 13, with another
greatly extended broadcast; 1254 & 1335; strong carrier, but with no
modulation (no audio) at all; normally by 1335, I would be hearing some
definite music, but not so today.
UNIDENTIFIED. 3240, on June 13, noted at 1259-1306, with OM & YL
announcers; extremely poor, so unable to even guess at the language;
no music heard; most of the time was just hearing a carrier and once in
a while some faint audio. Could this be TWR Eswatini (formerly Swaziland)
via long path, with a new schedule? I scan by here almost daily and this is
the first time I have heard this. Still on the air at last check of 1335. Any
other ideas? Appreciate any feedback! Thanks.
Re - My UNID on 3240 kHz. Thanks very much to Bill Bingham (RSA) for
this input:
". . . seems unlikely to be TWR from Eswatini. At the time you were listening,
it would have been broad daylight in Southern Africa and unlikely to propagate
very far. I can't think who they might be targeting with that frequency in mid
afternoon (sunset here today was at 1523ut, and in Manzini it would have
been just a few minutes earlier. Come to think of it, I doubt I'll be able to hear
it in the afternoon either. Even Channel Africa from Meyerton is a stretch here
at that time and they are closer to 10MHz. . ." Very much appreciate Bill's input!
So it's a mystery! Definitely was a new signal there today.

Mauno Ritola speculated (June 16) on WRTH Facebook page: "They are

Believe he is probably correct, as it would seem unlikely they would currently

so early.

Early sign off? Ozy Radio (4835) was broadcasting at that time.
BOUGAINVILLE[non-log]. 3325, NBC Bougainville, noted off the air June 15,
16 & 17, checking after 1000+. What has happened to them? Unusual for
them to be missing for so many days, but is a good chance to hear the
"Voice of Indonesia" language programs in the clear, also on 3325, now
via RRI Palangkaraya.
CHINA. 6035, "PBS" Yunnan, 1233, on June 16, with the usual relay of
FM99.
Not sure if appropriate any longer to call this "PBS"? Seems the name
"People's Broadcasting Station" is no longer in fashion, per DXLD 18-24,
(http://www.w4uvh.net/dxlatest.txt) and perhaps "Broadcasting Network"
will be the future correct title? This may help explain why last year
Sichuan PBS-2 stopped using their nice SAs in English - "Nationality
Channel. Sichuan, the People's Radio Station. SW 6060, 7225, FM 88.1."
FYI - On March 18, there was a reorganization. The new State Administration
of Radio and Television (SART), was formerly the State Administration of Radio,
Film, and Television (SARFT) and the State Administration of Press,
Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT). Website -
http://www.sapprft.gov.cn/ , in Chinese.
INDIA. 5040, AIR Jeypore, 1242, June 16. In Hindi and with subcontinent music.
Not bad for summertime listening, but of course with QRN (static). My music
audio at http://goo.gl/qQe3oR .
INDONESIA. 3325, "Voice of Indonesia" via RRI Palangkaraya, on June 17.
Started close to 1024; in English; 1124 noted in Chinese; 1223 in Japanese;
1300 VOI intro in English, saying something like - You can listen to our
broadcast on 9525 kilohertz; gave just the one frequency, so no longer
the "15150, 9525, 11785" frequencies given; 1316 segment "Today In
History"; not very readable.
Approximate language schedule per -
http://radio.chobi.net/DX/bbs/?res:133#3309 :
*0950-1000 (English) ??
1000-1100 (English) ?? [noted starting past 1000 and yes, in English - Ron]
1100-1200 Chinese
1200-1300 Japanese
1300-1400 English
1400-1500 Indonesian
1500-1600 (Dutch) ??
1600-1700 Arabic
1700-1800 Spanish
1800-1900 German
1900-2000 (English)
2000-2100* (French)
Now that VOI seems to be staying on 3325 kHz. for a while, would be interesting
to know if they still broadcast the "Exotic Indonesia" programs, during some
weekdays, during the English language segments. In past years Glenn Hauser
and I often enjoyed hearing these joint programs of VOI-Jakarta and different
regional stations ("RRI Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan," or "97.2 FM Pro 2 RRI
Bukittinggi, West Sumatra" or "100.9 Paradise FM, RRI Denpasar," or "88.5 FM
world wide RRI Samarinda, East Kalimantan").
KOREA SOUTH. 6045.0, Voice of Freedom, June 17 (Sunday - weekend schedule),
with N. Korea jamming. 0930 - program "Namnam Bugnyeo" ("South man, North
woman"), with man announcing "Namnam" and woman with "Bugnyeo," then
together with "Namnam Bugnyeo"; presentation of a drama; 0940 - program
"Aneun geos-i him-ida" ("Knowing is power").
These programs still conform to the Amano (Japan) & Chulsu (S. Korea) schedule
posted at "Now On The Radio" - http://radio.chobi.net/DX/bbs/?res:2480#3266 .
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut), 1125,
June 17. Usual Sunday religious preaching in Pidgin and religious songs,
except at 1135 they played "Blowin' In The Wind," which is usually
associated here in the USA with the civil rights movement and also
being a anti-war song (interesting selection); as it was the weekend, no
news at 1200; cut off at 1205*. As has recently been noted, heard with
reception considerable better than in past years. BTW - NBC Bougainville
(3325) silent on June 15-16 & 17.
RUSSIA[non-log]. Radio Sakha (7295 & 7345). Thanks to info passed along
by Anker Petersen, it is now confirmed that NVK Radio Sakha is presently off
the air on SW due to lack of funds. Hence they didn't respond to my mid-May
emails to them, in which I expressed the hope they would soon return to SW.
Per "RUS-DX," # 981 (June 17) - http://rusdx.narod.ru/bulletin/981.txt
Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)
--------------------------------------
The radio station broadcasting programs in Yakut and Russian languages on
HF frequencies of 7295 and 7345 kHz, prepared by NBC "Sakha Yakutia",
has ceased broadcasting since April 27. The project was funded by the
republican government, broadcasting was discontinued due to financial
problems. There is no information on the date of renewal of information
at this time. (Captain Flint / http://dxforum.ru/viewtopic.php?t=371).

AUSTRALIA. 5055, 4KZ, 1307-1335, June 18. Decent reception for
this very nice summertime entertainment, even with QRN (static);
Bellamy Brothers - "Let Your Love Flow," Loretta Lynn - "He's Got
The Whole World In His Hands," Diana Ross - "Touch Me In The
Morning," Electric Light Orchestra - "Strange Magic," Anne Murray -
"Daydream Believer"; series of commercial announcements that
were almost readable ("quality eye care," etc.). My audio at
http://goo.gl/xyT9NR . My local sunrise was at 1248 UTC.
EQUATORIAL GUINEA. 5005, RNGE/R. Bata, on June 18, with an
early sign on; already on at 0516; music was above threshold level
audio; songs sounded religious; still with audio by 0530; not often
heard at this level.
INDONESIA. 3325, "Voice of Indonesia" via RRI Palangkaraya, on
June 18, at 1300. Start of segment in English; unlike yesterdays
announcement for just "9525," today sound like only "15150" was
given; whereas several Japanese DXers have been hearing all
three former frequencies (9525, 15150, and 11785) being given
for other language segments, but clearly not yet announcing 3325.
KOREA NORTH[non-logs]. June 18, at 1137. Briefly noted that many
S. Korea frequencies were clear of jamming; 5995, 6015, etc., but
didn't stay around to see how long this lasted.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut),
1138 till cut off at 1206*, June 18. DJ playing pop Pacific Islands songs
and some "messages"; 1157 full SA with frequencies ("Broadcasting on
3260 kHz. shortwave band and 90.4 MHz. FM band"); considering it's
summertime, reception was very enjoyable, even with QRN (static),
as the signal strength was good. My clear musical audio at
http://goo.gl/yhmRwv . Certainly one of their better days!
USA. 7505v, WRNO, 0434, June 18. Very strong signal; one of their best
receptions; in Chinese with the program called "Grace for Today"; in the
past I mistakenly called this "Praise for Today," but I was wrong; correct
name found on their website; have also seen others incorrectly call it
"Pray for Today"; still good at 0540.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1113 till sudden cut off at 1145*,
June 19. From 1113 to 1120 with interview in Pidgin; 1120-1145 DJ in Pidgin
playing pop Pacific Islands songs; public service announcement about the
election; local time checks (1124 UT with "24 past 10 o'clock," which is
different than the local times given on NBC Madang [3260]); summertime
QRN; NBC totally dominating the frequency, with "Voice of Indonesia"
extremely faint underneath. Glad to have them back, after being silent
June 15, 16 & 17. My audio at http://goo.gl/cXkj4C .
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut), 1146
till suddenly cut off at 1210*, on June 19. About equal strength of NBC
Bougainville; DJ with pop songs; 1200 UT local time check for 10:00;
PNG bird call and NBC news in English; 1205 promo for "NBC Radio";
summertime QRN (static).
Re: Bhutan BBS
Ron Howard -
Jun 20, 2018 14:51 UTC No.3315
BHUTAN. 6035, BBS (presumed), on June 20, with greatly extended
broadcast; from tune in at 1147, still going through to when tuned out
at 1320; from 1147 to 1200, usual program of pop songs; 1200+
segments with announcers or segments with indigenous music/singing/
chanting; never strong enough to SA language, so SAing this solely on
the unique style of music; considerable QRM from the relay, in Chinese,
of FM99, via Yunnan. BBS did have some respectable reception,
especially about 1255 UTC, with Thimphu sunset at 1259 UTC and
my local sunrise at 1249 UTC, so nice grayline reception. My musical,
three minute audio at http://goo.gl/EkaxQJ .

June 21 - Very pleased to find that for the second consecutive day
that BBS (6035) is again on the air 1320+, with the usual format;
especial nice selection of solo indigenous stringed instrumental
music, very unique, from 1225 to 1230. Still mixing with the FM99

AUSTRALIA. 5055, 4KZ, intermittent listening 1115-1315, on June 21. Another
day with enjoyable reception; pop songs (Creedence Clearwater Revival - "Have
You Ever Seen The Rain," John Denver - "Sweet Surrender," The Animals -
We Gotta Get Out Of This Place," Billy Joel - "Only the Good Die Young," Blood
Sweat & Tears - "You've Made Me So Very Happy," Dionne Warwick & Bee Gees -
"Heartbreaker," etc.); commercial announcements & promo for joining Australian
Radio DX Club. Heard at such a good level as to make SAing the songs easy!
BOUGAINVILLE[non-log]. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1046+, June 21. Clearly off the
air today, so continuing to be rather erratic; only "Voice of Indonesia" heard here.
INDONESIA. 3325, "Voice of Indonesia," via RRI Palangkaraya, on June 21, at
1059. Full SA in English (ending the English segment); clearly giving just the 9525
frequency; at 1100 switched to Chinese. Again at 1300 started another segment in
English with SA and VOI news. NBC off the air today, so no QRM.
KOREA SOUTH. Echo of Hope - Voice of Hope (VOH), with new development.
In the past their 9100 frequency was always clear of N. Korea jamming, but on
June 21, at 1043, founded them jammed, along with the normally jammed
3985, 5995, 6250 and 6350. No jamming, as usual, on 4885.
This was also confirmed by Chulsu (Seoul, South Korea), per YouTube posting
today, which switched reception between jammed 9100 and unjammed 4885 -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRetOrY_btw&feature=youtu.be .
So now 4885 remains the only VOH frequency free of jamming or are their
days of clear reception numbered?
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut), on June 21,
noted 1210*, sudden cut off in mid-song; not as strong today as recently heard.
SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC (presumed), on June 21, at 1212, with strong
carrier, but again with no trace of any audio; by 1316 could make out the faint
voice of announcer (extremely weak modulation).

June 22 - Interesting happenings with Echo of Hope - Voice of Hope (VOH). At 1105
noted 4885 was off the air; very unusual for them to be off; while all the other VOH
frequencies were jammed by N. Korea (3985, 5995, 6250, 6350, and also 9100).
Hiroyuki Komatsubara (Japan), at 0918, also found 4885 silent. Rechecking at
1148, I heard 4885 back on the air with their usual good signal and as normally
is the case with no jamming at all.
4885 (not jammed) // 9100 (jammed), had singing station jingle at 1157, along with
chimes and full SA in Korean; 1200 with "Onule Soshi" (Today's News), but then very
surprised to hear the jamming on 9100 ended at 1200, becoming as good as 4885.

BOUGAINVILLE[and non]. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1122, June 23. Back
on the air today; interview in Pidgin; promo for "NBC Radio" and separate
full SA for "NBC Bougainville," including SW & FM frequencies; 1128 till
suddenly cut off at 1159*, with pop songs.
The definition today of "frustrating," is having to listen to NBC and Voice
of Indonesia mixing together here rather badly, when the remainder of
the 90m band is virtually empty of stations. If only one of them would do
us a favor and move to a clear frequency! Both could then have decent
reception.
After 1159, VOI in the clear with Chinese till switching at 1200, over to
Japanese and later at 1300, switching over to English, with SA again only
given for "9525."
CHINA. 6035, FM99 relay via Yunnan, at 1220, on June 22. No Bhutan
(BBS) extended broadcast today; usual FM style format; Shakira singing
"Waka Waka" (This Time for Africa); have found a number of stations
recently playing this song during the current World Cup games.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut),
on June 23 (Saturday), noted at 1201 with EZL song; promo for "NBC

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, on June 24. As usual on Sunday,
was monitoring here and found anomaly; one of their longest, extended
broadcasts; 1103-1245*; religious (Christian) songs 1103-1110; then
preaching till 1145; followed mostly with non-stop religious songs till
suddenly off at 1245*, whereas they normally go off about 1200 or
somewhat earlier; most of the time with Voice of Indonesia QRM,
but with NBC stronger; after 1245, VOI was in the clear. My NBC
(religious music) & VOI (in Japanese & some music) audio, till NBC
ended, at http://goo.gl/xoc9ma . My local sunrise at 1248 UTC.
Today clearly proved NBC is no longer carrying the syndicated (USA)
program hosted by Stacy Rose ("Island Praise"), that formerly was only
on Sundays 1200+. I miss her unique music show!
INDONESIA. 3325, Voice of Indonesia, via RRI Palangkaraya, on
June 24. In Chinese at 1103; into Japanese at 1200; into English at
1300; SA - "From Jakarta, R R I World Service, Voice of Indonesia,
English Service . . . You can listen to our broadcast via shortwave
on 9 5 2 5 kilohertz" (only one frequency given); strong QRM from
NBC Bougainville, which ended at 1245; at 1300+, with schedule
for today, VOI news, "Today in History," etc. My audio of SA in
English, at http://goo.gl/st7Uib . My local sunrise at 1248 UTC.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, on June 26, from 1059
till cut off at 1154*. Slightly stronger than the Voice of Indonesia
also on frequency; 1100-1150, in Pidgin with long series of
interviews; 1130 one about the upcoming 2019 independence
referendum; mentions of "the government after 2019," "national
government," "local government," many mentions of "independence,"
etc.; 1150 nice Pacific Islands singing till cut off.
INDONESIA. 3325, Voice of Indonesia, via RRI Palangkaraya, on
June 26. At 1059, ending the English segment, again with clear
"9 5 2 5 kilohertz," mixing with NBC Bougainville.
Some of my recent logs here have incorrectly referenced "Pro 1
RRI Palangkaraya," which I guess I did just out of habit, but of
course that is no longer the case. Clearly they are not carrying
"Programa Satu." Instead is now 100% of the time with Voice
of Indonesia programming.

MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio. After a considerable absence, again
heard the language lesson entitled "Say It In English," which is a British
production; in English & Burmese; 1221-1231, on July 2 (Monday);
dialogue about the misadventures of "Tom" and his aunt "Jennifer";
today's repeated program was first reported by me back on Wednesday,
Dec 27 (1241-1252); this frequency is now often covered by some type
of noise, so poor reception. My poor audio at http://goo.gl/odA26x . This
should be re-broadcast again on Wednesday (July 4).

Ron Howard -
Jul 05, 2018 18:40 UTC No.3337
July 5, found Shiokaze had moved up to 7215, for 1300-1400 broadcast.
Being as it is Thursday, was in English, as scheduled; good signal; in the
clear with no jamming, which was still down on ex: 6165. This one hour
broadcast consists of two identical half hour shows, run back-to-back.
Last time Shiokaze used 7215, they were up against a 500kW CRI on
frequency, but today no such problem, as CRI was off the air (a temporary
situation?). Program is provided for by the private organization COMJAN
(Investigating Committee on Missing Japanese Probably Related to North
Korea); website - http://www.chosa-kai.jp/ in Japanese, but one can click
on "English" to see a different COMJAN web page. My audio today of their
1330 intro, in English, at http://goo.gl/No1zB1 .

AUSTRALIA. 5055, 4KZ, 1107-1151*, July 5. Pop songs (Chuck Berry -
"Roll Over Beethoven," Seals & Crofts - "I'll Play For You," Lionel
Richie & Diana Ross - "My Endless Love," Jackie Wilson - "Higher
and Higher," etc.); commercial announcements; SA and promo for
joining Australian Radio DX Club; cut off in mid-song; summertime
QRN (static), but strong enough to easily SA songs; certainly not
their supposedly new 1000 sign off time.
BTW - Rob Shepherd (Australia), advised me on July 4 - "Ozy Radio
is currently off-air again with technical difficulties," so another chance
to check for AIR Gangtok. July 5, noted strong OTH radar blocked 4835
from about 1155+.
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville (Maus Blong Sankamap), on
July 5, with very good propagation; one of their best receptions; intermittent
listening 0941-1207*; some highlights:
0941-0959: News in English (long item about the 2019 referendum, etc.);
// 3260 (NBC Madang).
0959-1010: NBC national news, sports (one reporter from "NBC sports
Madang,") and weather, in English.
1010-1020: "Regional news in English," followed by the often heard SAs
for "NBC Bougainville," but also the not so common SA "Maus Blong
Sankamap," which is Pidgin for "Voice of the Sunrise," which is heard on
my audio clip http://goo.gl/awwTQn at 2:31; followed by commercial
announcement.
1039: In Pidgin, with comments about the government needs to support rugby.
1049: In Pidgin; segment about "Bougainville community government."
1155: Pop song - Jason Derulo - "Trumpets."
1159: SA, with frequencies; news in English; at 1205 noted was // again to
3260 (NBC Madang).
1207*: cut off in mid-song.
On my audio clip, nice Pacific Islands singing during the last minute of audio.
Today there was only some brief Voice of Indonesia QRM around 1103,
otherwise VOI was not heard or as later noted at 1215 & 1310, VOI with
decent level carrier, but no modulation at all (no audio!). Was most fortunate
that NBC was good today and VOI was having serious problems.
CANADA. 6030, Calgary - CFVP relaying CKMX (AM 1060), at 1223, on
July 5. Again found that CNR1 was off the air; series of comedians; at 1315
"10-60 traffic." So is CNR1 off for maintenance here?
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut), intermittent
listening 0941-1211*, July 5. I was mostly enjoying NBC Bougainville, but
Madang was equally well heard. It has been some months now since I first
noticed a marked improvement with Madang's reception, so seems not to be
just the result of propagation?

Jul 07, 2018 03:17 UTC No.3340
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville (Maus Blong Sankamap),
1021+, on July 6. A second day of well above average reception;
usual format of political discussions in Pidgin and playing of music;
QRM from Voice of Indonesia started sometime around 1100 and
continued mixing with NBC; spent most of today with NBC Madang
(3260), which was also above the norm.
CHINA[and non-logs]. 6030, at 1337, on July 6. Again found CNR1
absent here, leaving the frequency clear for reception of Calgary
(Canada). First noted CNR1 off the air on June 27.
6035, FM99 via Yunnan, on July 6. What has been going on here?
First noted by me on June 27 and now daily am hearing jamming
that sounds as if from N. Korea; today at 1337, totally blocking any
chance to enjoy reception of China. This must also be affecting
reception of Bhutan (BBS) at an earlier time. The jamming of nearby
Voice of Freedom on 6045, continues as before (no change). A most
unpleasant development! Also this from DXLD 18-27:
http://www.w4uvh.net/dxld1827.txt
"UNIDENTIFIED. 6035, 1214-, Jammer, Jun 28. Looking for Bhutan
45 minutes ago, and again now, no sign of BBS, but there is a powerful
pulse jammer. Who might this be? Not obvious from SW Sked information.
Cochannel China is audible. 73, (Walt Salmaniw, Masset, Haida Gwaii, BC,
July 1, WOR iog via DX LISTENING DIGEST)"
6165, CNR6, at 1337, July 6. N. Korea jamming continues here on this
ex-Shiokaze frequency. Will be good when the jamming moves up to 7215,
leaving CNR6 again in the clear.
[non-log] 7215, at 1337, on July 6, noted CRI is still absent here, leaving
the frequency clear for good Shiokaze reception, but is just a matter of time
before N. Korea jamming moves up here from 6165.
INDONESIA. 3325, Voice of Indonesia, via RRI Palangkaraya, on July 6, back
to normal operation after yesterday's 1215+ carrier only signal; today started
around 1100 (mixing with NBC Bougainville); at 1300, was fairly readable in
English, as NBC was gone by then; the usual "9-5-2-5 kilohertz" intro.
At 1301, the VOI news (interesting item about Argentine Ambassador to
Indonesia expressed his appreciation for the launch of Broadcast Program
Exchange with Radio Republik Indonesia today. According to him, radio is
one medium that is relied upon by the people of Argentina in obtaining
information. He said "Radio was an important tool in the past, but radio
may still be the strongest communication tool in my country. Radio programs
spread in Argentina. Everyone listens to radio, in the car, while working, you
hear people's comments." To date, four countries have signed cooperation
agreements with RRI regarding the sharing of information/programs, namely
Russia, Thailand, Brunei and Malaysia); followed by "Today's Commentary."
At 1314, "Today in History" (July 6, 1975, the Comoros Islands, off coast of
Africa, declared independence; this date in 1998, the Hong Kong Kai Tak
airport closed, and this date 2007, the IOC approved the creation of a youth
version of the Olympic Games). Very enjoyable to again hear the VOI in
English with decent reception!
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut), 1048,
July 6. Above the norm, even with summertime QRN (static); series of speeches
in Pidgin; 1136-1141 comedy skit in Pidgin, with a lot of laughing; 1151-1200
religious segment (preaching and singing); 1201 NBC news in English (item
about the execution of the Japanese cult leader responsible for Tokyo's Sarin
attack in 1994, etc.); 1204 into "NBC Radio" relay from Port Moresby, in English;
playing pop songs till cut off at 1222* in mid-song. John Wilkins (CO, USA) also
"Noticed the enhanced PNG sigs" today, as we were both listening at the same
time.
My three minute audio clip (one minute comedy, next minute nice Pacific Islands
singing and final minute with religious singing), at http://goo.gl/ijXXdf .

AUSTRALIA. 5055, 4KZ, 1147, July 7. Commercial announcement;
sounded like Bob Dylan with "Blowin' In The Wind." Just as happened
on July 5, today cut off at 1151*, so must be on a timer? Need to check
a few more times to be sure.
BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, 1207, July 7. Announcer till 1212, then the normal
break for the very distinctive indigenous stringed instrumental till cut off at
1214*; mixing with relay of FM99, via Yunnan (China), that was in Chinese;
yet another day with the UNID jamming that has been heard here recently.
Without the jamming, this would have been an interesting reception!
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville (Maus Blong Sankamap), 1115,
July 7. Both NBC and Voice of Indonesia mixing together about equal strength,
causing a mess; not worth listening to.
CHINA. 6035, FM99 relay, via Yunnan, 1207+, on July 7. BBS (Bhutan) QRM
till 1214*; at 1209, with the usual song by Shakira ("Waka Waka" - This Time for
Africa); moderately strong jamming noted the whole time.
17398-USB, Guangzhou Coast Radio Station (presumed), on July 7, noted 1106*,
after YL in Chinese with assume marine weather; almost fair; one of their better
receptions.
MONGOLIA. 7260, Mongolian Radio 3 (presumed), at 1203, July 7. Pop songs;
much stronger than QRM from China far underneath; today definite carrier (no
audio) on 4895, which must have been them; nothing on 4830.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut), July 7,
with yet another day of decent reception till cut off at 1202*; as it was Saturday,
there was no 1200 news on the weekend.
SIKKIM. 4835, AIR Gangtok (presumed), 1223, July 7. Heard a carrier that I
think could be them, as it seems Ozy Radio is still off the air here. Yesterday
also noted a prominent carrier here at 1325 (not Ozy).
USA. 7505v, WRNO, 1114 & 1153, July 7. Not in the usual Chinese, but instead
religious program in English; later at 1207, found them in Chinese; fair.

AUSTRALIA. 5055, 4KZ. Recently had been hearing a 1151* cut
off time and speculated was on a timer. July 9, at 1118-1150* (very
close to 1151); playing Bobby Darin - "Dream Lover," Crowded
House - "Don't Dream It's Over," etc. On July 10, was close to
1150:43* and on July 11, off close to 1150:35*, so yes definitely
closing down via a timer.
BANGLADESH. 4750, Bangladesh Betar - HS, 1235-1242, July 9.
The Monday only SAARC (The South Asian Association for Regional
Cooperation) news bulletin in English; 鄭ssalamu alaikum. This is
Bangladesh Betar・ item - UN Secretary-General's visit to Bangladesh
regarding refugees, etc.; less than semi-readable due to CODAR and
CNR1 QRM; 1242 into Bangla.
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, on July 8, noted that Voice
of Indonesia started QRM at *1056, in English; mixing with NBC. On
July 9, at 1016 with local Bougainville news in English; today VOI *1116.
On July 10, NBC with 1204* cut off.
Almost daily I scan 90m for PNG stations (and 3905), but for a long time
now only 3260 & 3325 are active.
MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, 1218-1230, July 9. Monday edition of
"Say It In English"; more misadventures of "Tom" and his aunt "Jennifer,"
who was learning to drive, during which she hits another car in a parking
lot and "Tom" worries that the car hit belongs to his boss, "Mr. Harris."
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang ("Maus Blong Garamut" - voice
of indigenous drums), at 1108, July 9. Nice to hear the full SA for "NBC
Madang, Maus Blong Garamut." July 11, from 1156 till cut off at 1219*;
on the air slightly longer than normal.
TAIWAN. 9410-USB+carrier, Fu Hsing BS, 1222, July 11. While this isn't
exactly rare, it certainly is off the air most days; announcer in Chinese, playing
some music; one of their better receptions here; of course only possible as BBC's
(Singapore) strong reception ended here about 1200*; Taiwan's other frequency
(9774) remains silent.

AUSTRALIA. 5055, 4KZ, July 16, at 1111, played Eddie Floyd's song
"Knock On Wood"; cut off close to 1150:09*; on July 13, cut off close
to 1150:26*, so each day off a little earlier than before (previously -
July 11, close to 1150:35*, July 10, close to 1150:43*).
BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, on July 14, at 1110, noted mixing with FM99
relay via Yunnan and also with jamming here, BBS cut off at 1133*,
leaving just jamming and Yunnan.
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, on July 16, noted 1200*.
Unable to hear Voice of Indonesia till after 1200, as NBC was so much
stronger today than VOI.
CHINA. 9820, Beibu Bay Radio, 1136-1310, July 12. Mostly in Chinese
and Vietnamese; EZL pop songs; each ToH Chinese and English time
checks for Beijing time. Has been a long time since I last checked this
frequency, as in the past it was always found with stronger stations
blocking reception, but not so now; nice clear frequency and good signal;
occasional IDs in English; // 5050. July 13, with "Showtime"(?) music show,
playing top ten songs; fair.
6030, am not positive as to what is happening here? Still hearing Calgary
(CFVP), but sounds to me like it could also be DRM from China. On July 16,
at 1242, possibly a DRM signal; would seem rather late to be
hearing strong Cuban jamming. Needs more work.
6035, FM99 (Voice of Shangri-la) via Yunnan. On July 15, at 1300 with time
pips and singing ID (several clear mentions of "Radio"); usual FM format.
When I returned home, checked at 1500 for their live audio streaming at
http://www.wodt.net/play/2568-1-1.html and indeed heard the identical
singing ID jingle; also via on-line streaming an occasional mention of
"Shangri-la," as on the web it's shown as FM99 Voice of Shangri-la. Program
schedule (Chinese) - http://www.qingting.fm/radios/20139 . Still hearing an
UNID jammer here, that started about June 27. My audio clip at
http://goo.gl/ZB1u6m .
KOREA NORTH. 6165, on July 16, the Shiokaze jammer is still here (1300+),
even though Shiokaze moved to 7215 back on July 4. Am beginning to think
the DPRK Shiokaze jamming section must be on summer vacation? Do not
recall them being this late before in noting the change in frequency. Also noted
Voice of Hope (5995) non-jamming anomaly today. 7215, as of today was a nice
clear frequency for the strong Shiokaze signal.
KOREA SOUTH. Echo of Hope - Voice of Hope (VOH), on July 16.
4885, at 0930, mixing with equal strength Brazil (R. Clube do Para); as time
went by Brazil dropped down and VOH become good reception as usual.
VOH never with any N. Korea jamming here.
5995, with major anomaly today, as from 0934 till past 1324+, there was no
N. Korea jamming here at all (rare - don't recall this ever happened like this
before!); good reception. At 0959 the usual musical SA ("V-O-H") and
then the "Onule Soshi" (Today's News) program (items about "Singapore,"
"Washington," etc.) My audio clip at http://goo.gl/QVYHWn .
9100, had times of no jamming and other times with jamming.
All other VOH frequencies jammed as usual (3985 // 6250 // 6350), from
0934 to 1324+.
All VOH frequencies now only carrying the same program.
MALAYSIA. 11665, Wai FM - Limbang, July 12, yet another Thursday with
their unique IDs for "Wai FM - Limbang"; scheduled 1315-1400. Surprised
today to hear this and also 9835 (Sarawak FM) go off the air at 1400*, just
as the news started. An anomaly? "Wai FM - Limbang" is also on Monday
at the same time.
TAIWAN. 9410-USB+carrier, Fu Hsing BS, 1250-1300*, July 16. In Chinese;
some nice music; last heard here on July 11. Their sign off time conforms to
their schedule. Taiwan's other frequency (9774) remains silent. My audio at

6035, FM99 relay, via Yunnan. Rather strange one day only anomaly on
July 20, from 1215 to 1353; heard with what I think must have been two
separate audio feeds from Yunnan; one was the normal FM99 format and
also the stronger audio, and a second weaker audio also in Chinese, with
EZL pop songs, along with the usual jamming; first time I have heard this,
after almost daily monitoring here. The second UNID audio clearly not
Bhutan (BBS). July 21, back to normal with just FM99 and the usual
jamming.

on July 22; VOI the only station here; the last two days NBC Bougainville
has been off the air; 1301, SA in English; still with "9-5-2-5 kilohertz"
frequency; into the VOI news; less than semi-readable.
KOREA NORTH[non]. 7215, Shiokaze, at 1257, strong N. Korea jamming;
*1258 strong CRI sign on; *1300 sign on of Shiokaze, on July 21; very poor
under CRI and jamming. My audio http://goo.gl/UbXSRw .
July 17, at 1301. Heard with good reception; no jamming and no CRI, but
the next day (July 18), both Dan Sheedy (Calif., USA) and Hiroshi (Japan)
found that CRI had finally resumed using this frequency, with their usual
strong signal, so very heavy QRM against Shiokaze. On July 19 (Thursday),
I also noted the strong CRI signal at 1303, blocking any meaningful reception
in English of Shiokaze.
KOREA SOUTH. 6045, Voice of Freedom, on July 17, at 1058, pop song
(James Brown - "I Feel Good"); 1100 - "Hanminjog tong-illo milaelo" ("Korean
people, to unity, to the future"); closing 1403-1406* with song "Aleumdaun
Nala" ("Beautiful Country"); daily is jammed by N. Korea, but VOF signal is
strong, so reception is still fair.
LAOS. 6130, Lao National Radio, 1237-1255, July 22. Not often I get audio
here and also without a lot of adjacent QRM, but today it happened; seemed
to be in Laotian and with indigenous music; poor reception, but happy to have
even this. My poor audio at http://goo.gl/yN4H8G . My local sunrise was at
1305 UTC. Thanks to Steve McDonald (BC, Canada) for the reminder about
checking for this.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut). At 1208*,
on July 22. Cut off in mid-song after the normal Sunday religious programs;
preaching in Pidgin and religious songs.
On July 21 (Saturday), nice program of Pacific Islands pop songs; 1103-1214*
cut off in mid-song; weekend, so no news at 1200; DJ in Pidgin mentions
"Saturday night" many times.
July 20, at 1156, with pop song ("Iko Iko," per Youtube "performed by Pacific
Island sensation, Justin Wellington and Small Jam," he was born in PNG -
http://goo.gl/5qNNC7 . Last year heard this same song via Solomon Islands -
SIBC - on 9545); 1159 "The best in music now, on NBC Madang, right here";
1200-1203 PNG bird call and NBC news; followed by discussion about the
Bougainville 2019 referendum to determine independence; all receptions with
heavy summertime QRN (static).

BANGLADESH. 4750, Bangladesh Betar - HS, July 24, at 1210. Clearly
back on the air today after yesterday's absence; mixing with CNR1 and
CODAR QRM.
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville (Maus Blong Sankamap). After
three days of silence, on July 24, heard again; 1143, speech in English
(Bougainville Minister of Health, who today was launching a new medical
ship - "We are here to protect you. We are here to work with you." News

followed by montage of songs, along with the "NBC Bougainville" SA. Nice
to have them back, but still some Voice of Indonesia QRM on frequency.
While NBC Madang (3260), at 1201, with news in English; cut off at 1205*;
about as strong as Bougainville.
CHINA. 3303-USB, Zhoushan Marine Meteorological Radio Station, 1113-1115*;
in Chinese. Last time I heard this station was back in Dec. 2008! Website -
Zhoushan Meteorological Bureau - http://zsqxj.zhoushan.gov.cn/
Google translation:
"Zhoushan Marine Meteorological Radio Station is located in Putuoshan Scenic
Area, Zhoushan City. It was established in November 1994. It is the earliest
professional radio station in the country to provide weather protection for fishing
vessels and other vessels at sea. After sea distance test, the effective listening
distance can reach 500. More than a kilometer. The radio station adopts sea
surface wave and sky wave synchronous transmission mode, and the antenna
is vertically polarized and transmitted; the signal transmission is transmitted by
a 2KW single sideband high power transmitter, which has the characteristics of
large power and long propagation distance. The transmission frequency of the
radio station is 3303KHZ. As long as the vessel operating at sea is equipped
with a short-wave single-sideband receiver, it will be able to listen to the
professional meteorological information released by the Zhoushan Marine
Meteorological Observatory four times a day in any sea area of China and the
three times a day issued by the Central Meteorological Observatory."
6035, FM99 (Voice of Shangri-la) via Yunnan, on July 24, found reception almost
impossible due to the new DRM (CNR1) signal on 6030, which was already
broadcasting today at 1059 tune in. Very unfortunate development! Also 6035 still
with pips jamming (N. Korea?).
SIKKIM. 4835, AIR Gangtok. On July 23, I commented - "Recently the carrier, on
some days, was fairly good and sounded close to having some audio"; July 24,
definite above threshold level audio; yes, positive Gangtok reception; mostly
subcontinent music/singing 1224-1302 and in Hindi, except for the usual New
Delhi news relay in English 1230-1235, which was clearly // 5040 AIR Jeypore
(fair). So am able to confirm that Ozy Radio is for sure still off the air here.
USA. 7505v, WRNO, on July 24, checking at 1106, heard them back on the air
today, after yesterday's absence; in Chinese; fair.

KASHMIR. 4950, AIR Radio Kashmir, Srinagar (presumed), 1333-1350, July 25.
Audio just above threshold level, whereas normally I only hear a carrier (no audio);
in assume Hindi; nice segments of subcontinent music/singing and also indigenous
chanting/singing; weak. My audio of chanting at http://goo.gl/Rb5A2i . Srinagar
sunset was at 1407 UT, while my sunrise was at 1308 UT. Very respectable
reception for summertime!
LAOS. 6130, Lao National Radio, 1200, July 25. Heard their unique gong/bell that
they ring slowly 7 times (7:00 PM their local time); was almost a minute late starting
(1200:54); weak. Vientiane sunset was at 1146 UT, while my local sunrise was not
till later at 1308 UT.
SIKKIM. 4835, AIR Gangtok. On July 25, for the second consecutive day, heard with
audio above threshold level; 1259-1323; announcer (unable to make out language)
and subcontinent music. My local sunrise was at 1308 UT, while Gangtok sunset was
at 1258 UT, making for some nice grayline reception. Ozy Radio remains silent here.

Feels more like winter here in Monterey (California), than summer.
Most days just about 15.5ー C and often with fog, which keeps it cool.
Heavy sweater weather!! As I don't like hot weather, am loving it :)
CHINA. 5050, Beibu Bay Radio, 1300, July 29. Time pips; Beijing time
in Chinese and English ("9 PM"); singing station jingle; mostly in
Vietnamese; // 9820, which was still mostly blocked by CNR2, whereas
5050 had clear and fair reception.
6035, FM99 relay (Voice of Shangri-la), via Yunnan, 1326, July 29. Pop
songs, with the normal FM format; still up against an UNID jamming (N.
Korea?); best in USB, to get away from strong CNR1 DRM signal on
6030.
6155, CNR2 (China Business Radio), 1225-1232, July 29. Good reception;

KOREA NORTH. 3219.85v // 3920, KCBS Pyongyang, 1221, July 29. Music

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut). 1105-1203*,
July 29. The normal Sunday format; long segment of preaching in Pidgin and

heavy QRN (static).

BOUGAINVILLE/INDONESIA. 3325, NBC Bougainville & Voice of
Indonesia, on Aug 1, with a major anomaly. VOI very late starting
and NBC running much longer than normal.
Highlights:
1035-1120: NBC - Non-stop interviews and monologues in Pidgin (no VOI).
1120-1130: NBC - Pop songs (no VOI)
*1208: VOI suddenly started; in Japanese; about one hour later than their
normal time to start; mixing
with NBC till 1257.
1257*: NBC suddenly cut off; about one hour later than normal, leaving VOI
in the clear.
1259: VOI with closing contact info in Japanese; followed by the usual segment
in English.
CHINA. 4900 // 4940, Voice of Strait, 1058+, July 30. In // for about an hour;
both fair.
6035, FM99 (Voice of Shangri-la) via Yunnan, 1220, July 30. Many pop song
(YL singer with the Beatles song "Hey Jude," Idina Menzel - "Let It Go," etc.);
usual FM format; in Chinese; holding up well against the jamming here; best
in USB, due to 6030 DRM.
INDIA. 5040, AIR Jeypore, 1257, July 31. Indigenous music and subcontinent
music; unusually good signal for the summertime. My audio at http://goo.gl/k3phzt
INDONESIA. 3325, Voice of Indonesia, via RRI Palangkaraya, 1300, July 30.
Intro to the hour in English; still with "9-5-2-5 kilohertz" frequency; news; 1319,
promo for the VOI 2018 quiz for free trip to Indonesia; "Commentary"; 1325-1328
"Today in History"; not very readable.
MONGOLIA. 7260, Mongolian Radio 3 (presumed), at 1303, Aug 1. Pop songs;
much stronger than QRM from China far underneath; today definite carrier (no
audio) on 4895, which was probably them; nothing on 4830. The 7260 frequency
is normally used daily, whereas 4895 is fairly rare.
MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, on Aug 1, from 1136 till past 1300+. Special
coverage (preempted regular programs); soccer/football game between Myanmar
vs South Korea, in the Alpine Cup (four-nation soccer/football tournament played
in Mandalay); TV audio feed; background sound of crowd and loudspeaker; mostly
fair; game not on 5915 (Myanmar Radio) nor 7345 (Thazin Radio) and unable to
hear 6165 (Thazin Radio), due to QRM. My audio at http://goo.gl/JGgWYd .
Full coverage via YouTube at https://goo.gl/AABti2 .
TAIWAN. 9410-USB+carrier, Fu Hsing BS, 1231, July 31. For the second
consecutive day heard here. July 30 noted 1245* cut off, which was earlier
than their normal 1300*; reception both days was much better than usual.

AUSTRALIA. 4835, Ozy Radio. Regarding my Aug 3 reception, I wrote
to Craig Allen (owner and operator of Ozy Radio), to congratulate him
for getting his station back on the air. His response: "Thanks Ron, Nice
to know I have one listener. Regards, Craig."
(non-log) Aug 5, found 4835 covered by OTH radar from 1040+. Mauno
Ritola noted in WRTH Facebook: "Here in Finland a buzzing carrier
blocking the frequency at 1430." To which I responded: "Back in May &
June, AIR Gangtok (4835) was clearly having transmitter problems,
producing a strong humming audio ("buzzing") on a daily basis. On
August 4, after 1230+ UTC, it seemed to me the same humming sound
had returned again, so perhaps Gangtok's problems returned?" and
Mauno clarified: "Hi Ron, yes, also AIR Gangtok has a similar buzz with
+/-50Hz side carriers, but it signed off at 1658 and this stronger buzz still
continues. I think it may be somewhere in Russia." Interesting development.
August 4, "Waltzing Matilda" theme music of Ozy Radio, heard at 1206, after
the news.
Station 4KZ, on 5055, from 0945+, Aug 5. Pop songs (Bobby McFerrin -
"Don't Worry Be Happy," also with seven minutes of Richard Harris -
"MacArthur Park," which I had not heard in a long time; nice!).
INDONESIA. 3325, Voice of Indonesia, via RRI Palangkaraya, 1058, Aug 4.
Unusual propagation, with VOI many times stronger than very weak NBC
Bougainville; contact info in English; into Chinese; later at 1145 found both
mixing together about equal strength. Have yet to hear any "Exotic Indonesia"
programs, as noted via VOI in past years.
7289.92, Pro 1 RRI Nabire, 0742 till off around 0940 or thereabout, Aug 6
(Monday). Seems weekdays they are on the air longer (one hour?) than
weekends. Audio - http://goo.gl/rSSP6c ; with one minute of singing and
one minute of reciting from the Qur'an, along with summertime QRN/static.
Highlights:
0742-0800: Young children singing various songs; non-stop.
0800-0817: ID 撤rograma Satu, Radio Republik Indonesia Nabire・(seems
they never give the "R-R-I" abbreviation in their IDs, as Pro 1 RRI Palangkaraya
did before VOI took over 3325), followed by the news. Ending news with patriotic
song 釘agimu Negeri,・which I find somewhat strange. In past years the RRI
stations in August normally played 泥irgahayu Indonesiaku・all month long, after
the news, instead of 釘agimu Negeri,・due to their Independence Day being this
month. Are they waiting till the 17th to play it?
0817-0900: Middle Eastern type music/singing.
0900-0910: Reciting from the Qur'an.
Thanks very much to Dave Valko for the alert about the abbreviated weekend
schedule for RRI Nabire. I tuned in Aug 4 (Sat.), at 0939+ and found them off
the air; Aug 5 (Sun.), checking 0848+, with the same results. Dave indicates
on Aug 5, he did heard RRI at 0824, but it was gone when recheck at 0846,
which is what I also noted a few minutes later.
Safe to say their cut off time varies a great deal.
KOREA SOUTH. 4885, Echo of Hope - VOH, 1221, Aug 5. Their usual Sunday
religious (Christian) songs, with soloists; is their normal format. My 5 1/2 minute
audio at http://goo.gl/BGhsFW . Daily I hear this like a local station and is never
jammed by N. Korea!

Yang Bang-ean (Japanese name: Liang Kunihiko); YouTube of "Frontier" at

Alpine Cup soccer/football match; Myanmar vs Thailand; preempted regular
programs; TV audio feed; background sound of crowd and loudspeaker; fair
reception.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut),1207*
cut off, on Aug 5, after the usual Sunday religious programs.
SIKKIM. 4835, AIR Gangtok. See AUSTRALIA.

AUSTRALIA. 4835, Ozy Radio, on Aug 7, at 1006. Another day that
was able to clearly catch the "Waltzing Matilda" theme music; was
still recognizable even with heavy QRN (static); in addition today
with CODAR QRM.
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville (Maus Blong Sankamap),
1033-1055, Aug 7. Unusually long non-stop monologue in Pidgin, till
hit with VOI starting up at *1055.
INDONESIA. 3325, Voice of Indonesia, via RRI Palangkaraya, on Aug 7,
suddenly started at *1055; mixing with NBC Bougainville.
[non-log] 7289.92, Pro 1 RRI Nabire, Aug 7, started checking 0813+, but
clearly off the air. So which was it - a very early sign off or not on the air
at all?
TAIWAN. 9730 (actually somewhat lower in frequency), Radio Free Asia
relay via Sound of Hope, on Aug 7. Tuned in to hear IS at 0856, during
which at 0858 had an SA in English ("You have been listening to Radio
Free Asia"); decent reception for summertime (QRN/static), per audio clip -

Without the heavy QRN (static), would have been fair reception.

My old iPod's ability to record finally died, so just bought a new touch iPod and

AUSTRALIA. 5055, 4KZ. Re: Glenn's log:
"5055, August 8 at 1146, JBA carrier from presumed 4KZ Queensland,
despite storm noise level and switch to indoor longwire for safety. During
July, Ron Howard had noted it cutting off the air by a timer, a few seconds
earlier from one day to the next, reaching 1148:52* by July 31, so I am
expecting carrier to vanish sometime during the 1148 or maybe 1147 minute
--- but it does not! I am about to tire of listening to its JBA tone with BFO on
5054, when finally it stops at approx. 1157:11.5*, wouldn`t you know it, when
I have glanced away from my watch. Perhaps Ron can confirm the new timing. . .
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)."
Aug 17, thanks to Glenn's observations, able to confirm the change in the cut
off time for 4KZ, which was 1156:20* today, so definitely the timer was changed
from when I last heard 4KZ in July and is still continuing to daily cut off earlier
each day.
[non-log] 4835, Ozy Radio, on Aug 17, at 1203, heard humming/buzzing sound,
either from faulty AIR Gangtok (Sikkim) transmitter or, as Mauno Ritola
commented recently in WRTH Facebook about 4835: "Hi Ron, yes, also AIR
Gangtok has a similar buzz with +/-50Hz side carriers, but it signed off at
1658 and this stronger buzz still continues. I think it may be somewhere in
Russia" and also "There is another buzzer [4835] in Eastern Europe, though
not a problem in the target area," or am I hearing a combination of the two?
Craig Allen (owner and operator of Ozy Radio) commented: "I have no
buzz just perfect processed audio," but I'm unable today to make out Ozy
Radio under the humming/buzzing.
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville (Maus Blong Sankamap), 1000-1109,
Aug 17. News in English; drums; news in Pidgin; 1021 music segment with DJ
in Pidgin, giving phone number; 1031 interview; noted at 1047 with Voice of
Indonesia QRM (in English) underneath NBC; by 1100 badly mixing together.
CHINA. 6035, FM99 via Yunnan, at 1200, on Aug 14. Time pips; Beijing time
check; station singing jingle (as confirmed via their on-line audio streaming);
normal FM format; still heard with UNID jamming.
7345-USB, V26, at 0945-0952*, Aug 17. Numbers given in Chinese. My audio
at http://goo.gl/YoRXjU .
INDONESIA. 7289.92, Pro 1 RRI Nabire (tentative), 0902, Aug 17 (Independence
Day). Today only hearing a carrier; well below threshold level; was gone by 1013;
the poorest reception I have had so far.
RRI Nabire, on Aug 14, a disappointing no-show (0839+). Aug 13, also not heard
from 0828+.
Andy Robins had positive reception, via Bill Whitacre's temporary remote receiver,
at "Sans Souci" near Florence, Oregon, on Aug 12, from 0750+. While Dave Valko
on Aug 15, noted "It's now 1117, the sun is shining here, and 7289.92 RRI Nabire
is still showing up prominently on the Perseus display. I'm almost certain this is the
latest I've ever noticed it on the air" and he says RRI went off close to 1131. He of
course noted the strong CNR1 signal on 7290.
Clearly this station is very erratic and certainly the cut off time varies a great deal.
KOREA SOUTH. 5920.0, Voice of Freedom, 1140, Aug 14 (Tuesday - weekday
schedule). Good reception, with "Aneun geos-i him-ida" ("Knowing is power")
program; clear of any N. Korea jamming, which was still up on ex: 6045. My
audio at http://goo.gl/jiogyH . Aug 17 also found VOF still clear of jamming
and usual very good reception.
MONGOLIA. 7260, Mongolian Radio 3 (presumed), 1035, Aug 14. Segment
with on-air phone conversations; 1059 into pop music segment (Glenn Medeiros -
"Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You," etc.); stronger than China
underneath, which was mostly announcers talking in Chinese; heard here
daily and not difficult to tell them apart; nothing today on rare 4830 nor 4895.
My audio at http://goo.gl/ksKcmg .

CHINA. 4940, Voice of Strait, at 0941, on Aug 18. Tuned into the Saturday
only "Focus on China" program already in progress; in English; formerly was
heard 1500-1530 (Sat.); seemed to be an audio feed from a documentary
about calligraphy; 0951 closing announcement, followed by EZL song;
0955 into Chinese.
Not sure if today was an anomaly or an actual schedule change? In summertime
I'm unable to check 1500+, as that is too far past my local sunrise, but at 0941,
I had almost semi-readable reception. At 0951 had positive program SA for FOC.
Interesting development, but needs more Saturday monitoring!

AUSTRALIA. 5055, 4KZ, on Aug 21, from 1005+; wind conditions;
ads; promo for joining Australian Radio DX Club and gave John
Wright's email address; pop songs (Andy Gibb - "I Just Want to
Be Your Everything," the Beatles - "Got To Get You Into My Life,"
Minnie Riperton - "Lovin' You," etc.); very respectable signal even
with heavy QRN (static). The start of the DX season?
4KZ, on Aug 20, with cut off at 1156:04.7*. From 0950+, heard pop
songs; the Beatles - "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da," the Lovin' Spoonful -
"Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind," the Doors - "Light
My Fire," the Seekers (Australian group) - "A World Of Our Own,"
etc."; better than the norm, but still with heavy QRN (static).

efforts to rescue thousands of people stranded by flooding in southern
Kerala state that has killed 324 people. Officials said hundreds of troops,
and dozens of boats and helicopters are helping to evacuate people.
Many people are still believed to be trapped on rooftops of flooded
homes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that . . . " - Bangladesh
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sent
condolences on the death of former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari
Vajpayee - etc.; a very good day here, as well above the norm;
semi-readable due to CNR1 QRM; "SAARC" is pronounced as a
word and not spelled out; 1242 into Bangla. My audio at

BOUGAINVILLE/PNG. 3325, NBC Bougainville (Maus Blong Sankamap)
// 3260, NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut), 0832-0909, Aug 20. In
English the whole time; heavy QRN (static).
CHINA. 6035, FM99 relay via Yunnan, on Aug 21, at 1120; finally clear
of the UNID jamming that had recently been here. The jamming probably
was a spur from the 6045 N. Korea jamming against Voice of Freedom.
I conclude this, due to today being the first day that 6045 was free of
jamming (moved down to 5920).
KOREA SOUTH. 5920.0, Voice of Freedom, on Aug 21, at 1120; the first
day that N. Korean jamming is here; jamming finally moved away from ex:
6045.
