Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(15) - Ron Howard Mar 02, 2018 14:41 UTC No.3101
AUSTRALIA[non-logs]. On March 2:

5055 (4KZ), 5045 (Ozy Radio) and 4835 (future Ozy Radio) not heard
at all at 1038, till past 1248. AIR Gangtok also again silent on 4835.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1040-1201*, March 2.
Segments with speeches (in Parliment?) in Pidgin and English; also
segments with usual DJ in Pidgin playing mostly pop songs in English;
1100 no news; 1200 normal PNG bird call and into the NBC News in
English; suddenly cut off.

NBC Madang (3260) not broadcasting March 2, at the same time period.

CHINA. 6115 & 9505, Voice of Strait. March 2, another day of the
change in their schedule; these frequencies noted up till about 1300,
when they switched to 4900 & 4940.

KOREA SOUTH. 7275, KBS World Radio. Yesterdays QRM from UNID
Chinese station was in fact CNR1. March 2, confirmed CNR1 // 6125. At
*1255 the start of the KBS IS and ID, mixing equally with CNR1. So with
two major stations here, there is no possibility of my hearing the recently
reported PBS Guizhou, which has been heard by Japanese DXers about
0300 UT, when there is no CNR1.

KBS on 6015 kHz. - Ron-san's audio on Feb 27. - Amano Mar 04, 2018 13:09 UTC No.3102
Hello! Hiroyuki and Ron-san.

I heard the audio of KBS Hanminjok Bangsong
that Ron-san recorded on Feb 27 at 1218.

- - - - - Ron-san's log:

http://radio.chobi.net/DX/bbs/?res:3095

6015, KBS Hanminjok Bangsong 1, on Feb 27, at 1210, heard with
about a half an hour with no N. Korea jamming; news in Korean;
nice "KBS News" SAs in English after each news item; sound bites
in English; good reception. My audio at http://goo.gl/VUDaxm .

- - - - -

Nice catch, Ron-san!

This program is "KBS News 9".
At this time, KBS Hanminjok Bangsong is relaying KBS-1 TV.
I confirmed the same sound as Ron-san's audio on Youtube below!

https://youtu.be/01PmH5qk-qA (01:46) // Ron-san's audio; 01:49-03:35

What a great!

Amano

Greetings Amano-san from California! Thank you so much for your informative info. As always, I greatly appreciate your expert input. Ron

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(15) - Ron Howard Mar 04, 2018 16:36 UTC No.3104
ANDAMAN & NICOBAR ISLANDS. 4760, AIR Port Blair (presumed
not to be AIR Leh [Kashmir]). On March 1, reported above average
reception here; now on March 3, even better reception! Is this just
the result of improved Indian propagation? Heard above threshold
level as early as 1128; some ads and a lot of subcontinent music/
singing; was about as strong as AIR Shillong (4970) and AIR Jeypore
(5040), which is extremely rare; heard past 1300+. QRM as usual
from strong CODAR.

Jim Young in Southern Calif. was also hearing them at the same time
on March 3 - "Port Blair had strong signal and fair audio" (Thanks go
to Jim for his feedback!).

AUSTRALIA[and UNID]. March 4 heard:

5055 (4KZ), from 1341 till cut off at 1401*; ad; pop songs (The Mamas
& The Papas - "Monday Monday," etc.); cut off during the news; weak;
a full broadcasting day; apparently with no lightning around.

5045 (Ozy Radio), not heard, nor was anything on 4835 (no AIR
Gangtok).

March 3, both Jim Young and I noted a definite carrier (UNID) on 4835,
with extremely weak audio; couldn't pull in any details, so unable to
confirm if it was AIR Gangtok having transmitter problems, but whoever
it was went off the air at 1459*; this on a day with exceptional Indian
propagation. March 4, nothing at all heard on 4835, from 1210+. Jim
also noted March 4, at 0100, there was no sign on from AIR Gangtok.

INDIA. new frequency 7554.80, AIR via Delhi-Kingsway, ex: 7555.5v,
1314, March 4. Sounded like Tibetan indigenous music; 1315-1325 dead
air (only carrier on); 1325-1330 EZL music (not AIR IS); 1330 into assume
listed Napali and with subcontinent music/singing. Signal strength infinitely
stronger than recently heard on ex: 7555.5v. Is this therefor a different
Kingsway transmitter here now?

Perhaps Wolfie can provide a more accurate measurement? (Thanks Wolfie!).

Re: Voice of Freedom on 5919.65 kHz. - Ron Howard Mar 05, 2018 20:45 UTC No.3105
KOREA SOUTH. new frequency 5919.65, Voice of Freedom, ex: 6045.0,
on March 5. Strong open carrier heard at 1540; start of easy-listening-
music at 1552; some distorted audio; choral anthem followed by SA and
station singing jingle; 1600 pips; program in Korean with mentions of
Olympics; no jamming; ex: 6045, now a clear frequency. In the past was
always on 5920.0, so a different transmitter now?

My audio at http://goo.gl/axpjcH .

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(15) - Ron Howard Mar 06, 2018 14:10 UTC No.3106

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1136-1203*, March 6.
DJ in Pidgin playing pop hit songs by Tina Turner, Cher, Dr. Hook,
etc.; 1200 normal PNG bird call and into the NBC News in English;
suddenly cut off.

NBC Madang (3260) not broadcasting March 6, at the same time
period.

INDIA. 7555.69v, AIR via Delhi-Kingsway, 1209-1227, March 6.
Transmitter problem; 1209 strong carrier; 1225 audio suddenly
started (no sign on at 1215 and no AIR IS at 1213); was unable
to keep a steady audio; cut in and out. On March 4 was on 7554.80v.
My audio at http://goo.gl/PuWJnF . Since March 4, with much stronger
signal than formerly heard.

Wolfie has already posted this - "INDIA 7555.690 kHz measured on
tune-in at 1245 UT on March 6, seemingly parked AIR transmitter on
that channel. CARRIER ONLY. Seemingly:

7555 100 Delhi Khampur 1215-1330 UT Tibetan(China), 1330-1430 UT
Nepali
1515-1530 UT Hindi HS, 1530-1600 UT English HS (ex 6155/7505).

At 12.52:54 UT SUDDENLY some short STRING instrument piece sound
came on air, some TX breaks then in between, again on air 12.53:45 UT
some mountain singer performance.

[selected SDR options, span 12.5 kHz RBW 15.3 Hertz]
(wb df5sx, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews March 6)."

KOREA SOUTH. 5919.22v, Voice of Freedom, 1107, March 6.
Transmitter problem that started yesterday and continued today.
Steadily drifting down in frequency; at 1237 seemed about 5919.12v;
strong signal and no jamming. Yesterday on 5919.65.

Re: Voice of Freedom on 5919.65 kHz. - Amano Mar 07, 2018 00:28 UTC No.3108
Hello! Ron-san and Hiroyuki.

Thank you for frequency change information of VOF.
I heard the following Ron-san's audio.

This is the beginning part of nighttime broadcasting in Korea time.
The last part of the Korean National Anthem, the start announcement,
the FM frequency announcement, the broadcast schedule,
and VOF SJ are clearly recorded.
The SW frequency is not announced.

** VOF FM frequency
101.7 (peak-il chong chil)
103.1 (peak-sam chong il)
107.3 (peak-chil chong sam) MHz

** VOF broadcast schedule
Yagan Bangsong 0100-0500KST (1600-2000UTC)
Ojeon Bangsong 0600-1100KST (2100-0200UTC)
Ohu Bangsong 1200-1700KST (0300-0800UTC)
Jeonyeog bangsong 1800-0000KST (0900-1500UTC)

Yagan = Nighttime
Ojeon = Morning
Ohu = Afternoon
Jeonyeog = Evening

After 1600 pips, the program "Bodo gwangjang" ("News plaza") starts.

After frequency change, I also received the VOF.

-------- Amano's log:

KOREA SOUTH. 5920, Voice of Freedom, 1900-2006*, on March 6.
The frequency is shifted slightly downward.
I don't know if it changed to different transmitter.
North Korean pip jamming was heard until 1900, but then I could
not hear it.
1939-, 1988 Seoul Olympic theme song "Hand In Hand" played in
"Haengboghan Daehanmingug" program.
Including the program ending,
my 02:30 audio at http://radio.chobi.net/DX/bbs/img/3108.mp3
* 00:00-01:35 1938'55"-1940'30"
* 01:30-02:30 1946'37"-1947'07"

Amano-san,

Thanks again for your very helpful translation of my most recent VOF audio clip.
Your understanding of Korean is excellent and I am most fortunate that you take
the time to decipher my audio recordings. You are the BEST !!!

Re: Voice of Freedom on 5919.65 kHz. - Ron Howard Mar 07, 2018 13:52 UTC No.3110
March 7 - Voice of Freedom continues their downward spiral. Thanks to
input from Dave Valko (USA), who measured VOF at 1053, on 5918.91v, and
at 1103, as 5918.902v. My monitoring from 1117 to 1216 had them about
5918.91v, down to 5918.76v.

Re: Voice of Freedom on 5919.65 kHz. - Ron Howard Mar 07, 2018 18:25 UTC No.3111
After monitoring VOF's drifting downward frequency for several days, have
contacted Jamie (via his Facebook page), who in 2014 constructed the
transmitters for VOF. Wanted to bring him up-to-date about the drifting
frequency on SW. Here is his quick response:

Jamie LaBadia "Hi Ron,....thank you so much for the update! I wonder
why the drift? The original exciter is a commercial D.D.S. I have been
home for a few weeks now,...but getting ready to head out again,....
either to Nashville,....or back to Indiana. Not totally sure yet. I'll have
to contact Korea and see what is up with the transmitters. Hard to
imagine both of the transmitters would become a "drift-o-matic." I'll
try to bring them up on one of the S.D.R.s in the area. For now,.....
I'm hunkering down for another blizzard here in the Catskills."

Re: Taiwan - Fu Hsing BS - Ron Howard Mar 08, 2018 14:00 UTC No.3112
TAIWAN. 9774.0, Fu Hsing BS (presumed), 1107, March 8. In
Chinese and with some music; weak signal and best in LSB, but
definitely here; still on at 1154; hovering at threshold level
audio.

During my daily monitoring, this has not been heard by me for a
long time now, so definitely is a rare catch for me!

BTW - Their // 9410 was blocked by strong CNR5 (// 5925), so
unable to confirm //.

Re: Taiwan - Fu Hsing BS - Ron Howard Mar 09, 2018 18:25 UTC No.3113
March 9 - Not broadcasting today on 9774.0 kHz.

Voice of Freedom 5918.3 kHz weak with websdr Twente / Netherlands (very weak at my home in France)

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(15) - Ron Howard Mar 10, 2018 04:39 UTC No.3115
AUSTRALIA[and non-log]. 5055, 4KZ, heard on March 8 & 9;
reception is now below threshold level audio, about 1130+; back
in Dec/Jan was doing much better. Still not on full power?

5045, Ozy Radio, not heard March 8 & 9, nor was anyone on 4835,
so AIR Gangtok is again silent, just as Glenn reported on the 8th.

INDIA. 7555.69, AIR via Delhi-Kingsway, 1212, March 9. Already
on with carrier; 1213 AIR IS (normal audio); 1215 start of distorted
audio; unreadable; at 1255 heard with much better audio. Their
recently varying frequencies seem to have settled onto this
frequency, at least for the time being.

KOREA SOUTH. Voice of Freedom. Thanks to Wolfie for his
continued monitoring, which also corresponds to my daily checking
of VOF:

5918.351 kHz measured on monitoring at 1111 UT on March 9, on
remote Perseus SDR unit in Seoul Korea, S=9+10dB signal strength.
Hwaseong bcast transmission.

5918.368 kHz measured on monitoring at 2111 UT on March 8, on
remote Perseus SDR unit in Seoul Korea, S=9+10dB signal strength.
Hwaseong bcast transmission.

5918.388 kHz measured on monitoring at 1630 UT on March 8, on
remote Perseus SDR unit in Tokyo Japan, S=9+10dB signal strength.
73 wolfie (df5sx), via dxldyg.

TAIWAN[non-log]. 9774.0, Fu Hsing BS, at 1137 & 1240, March 9.
Off the air today, after being heard yesterday. So a one day only
transmission? Will still keep an eye out here for any more activity.

USA[non-log]. 5010, WRMI. After conducting a low powered test here
on March 7, has not been heard again on the 8th nor the 9th; am only
hearing AIR Thiruvananthapuram. Later this month, when WRMI starts
up with full power, will probably be impossible to hear India, at least here
on the west coast of USA.

Re: Voice of Freedom causing QRM now for China & Myanmar on 5915 kHz. - Ron Howard Mar 10, 2018 14:04 UTC No.3116
- - - - - - posted to WOR iog:

Voice of Freedom, due to their daily slow downward spiral in frequency, is
now actively causing QRM for both China (CRI) and Myanmar (Myanmar
Radio), both on 5915. If VOF continues their downward trend, the QRM
will only get stronger. Here in California the VOF signal is daily strong,
with good reception, even with the light N. Korean jamming that is also
now present.

Ron

Re: Bhutan BBS - Ron Howard Mar 11, 2018 15:41 UTC No.3118
BHUTAN/CHINA. 6035, BBS & PBS Yunnan (Voice of Shangri-la).
On March 11, with the normal Sunday programs for BBS, but with
greatly extended broadcast (1338*); BBS not heard recently.

Highlights:

1123-1130 BBS announcers in English; mixing with PBS Yunnan,
in Chinese.

1131 Usual SA in English & Chinese; "S W liu(6) ling(0) san(3) wu(5).
Yunnan Radio and Television International, the Voice Shangri-la."

1130-1200 BBS playing pop songs in English; DJ in English; mixing
with PBS Yunnan in Chinese.

1201 PBS Yunnan started the usual loop of non-stop EZL instrumental
music, till cut off at 1213*.

1200 BBS announcer in vernacular; briefly played indigenous instrumental
music at 1216 & 1218; in the clear after 1213.

1230-1255 The normal Sunday children's call-in show (cute!), with kids briefly
chatting and then singing solo (no musical accompaniment).

1255-1300 Indigenous music/chanting/singing.

1300+ Announcer in vernacular.

1330 till suddenly off at 1338* - Call-in show for adults, with them briefly
chatting and then singing solo (no musical accompaniment).

Poor reception, with moderate to heavy adjacent QRM. Very nice to catch
this unusually long broadcast. Audio of solo singing at http://goo.gl/vvGGtZ

Ron, listening at Asilomar State Beach (near Monterey), California

Re: R. Sakha reactivated their second SW frequency - 7295 kHz. - Ron Howard Mar 12, 2018 15:19 UTC No.3120
RUSSIA. 7295, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk, 1119-1200, March 12.
Thanks to Hiroyuki Komatsubara (Japan), who reported hearing them
on March 2, at 0900. Have been monitoring this frequency since then,
but today is the first time to hear them; moderate adjacent QRM;
clearly // 7345, underneath a much stronger CNR1; music show;
1151-1155 usual series of commercial announcements; 1200 time pips;
they have definitely dropped using the nice Jew's harp (khomus) IS
that they formerly always played at the ToH. I certainly miss hearing
this unique instrument!

Nippon no Kaze signed on 7295, at 1300, in Korean, which blocked Russia
and caused a mess with the two mixing together, but R. Sakha went off the
air sometime after 1300, so when Furusato no Kaze ("Wind of Hometown")
started at 1330, on 7295, R. Sakha had already signed off.

Very nice to have a second frequency to listen to R. Sakha. Needs more
monitoring to determine if this frequency will be used regularly now.

Re: Taiwan - Fu Hsing BS - Ron Howard Mar 12, 2018 15:43 UTC No.3121
TAIWAN. 9774.0, Fu Hsing BS, 1232, March 12. Last heard here on
March 8; stronger reception today and clearly // 9410, even with the usual
CNR5 QRM, so certainly is Taiwan on their usual unique frequency; in
Chinese and EZL songs. Would be very nice if they started to regularly
use this frequency again!

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(15) - Ron Howard Mar 13, 2018 13:33 UTC No.3126
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1003-1120 , March 13.
Reception well above the norm; 1003-1015 "regional news" in Pidgin
(voting results, etc.); 1020-1033 interview in English with Aussie OM,
talking about "video" and "documentary"; good number of SAs ("NBC
Bougainville, number one"); pop Pacific Islands music, as well as
western pop (Tina Turner, etc.). Entertaining reception!

KOREA SOUTH. Voice of Freedom, on March 13, no longer on
5918.22v; at 1127 noted a strong carrier on 6045.0, which I suspect
was VOF returning to their former frequency, but with no audio; N.
Korea jamming was also present on 6045.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang, Maus Blong Garamut
(indigenous drums), 1134-1203*, March 13. Just as with Bougainville,
this station was also well above the norm; DJ in Pidgin and gave phone
numbers; segment started and ended with garamut (indigenous drums);
promo and public service announcement in English (info on surviving
a landslide, etc.); DJ in Pidgin playing pop Pacific Islands music; after
1201, in English (must be a Port Moresby audio feed); several promos
for "NBC Radio"; cut off 1203*. Another entertaining reception!

RUSSIA. 7295, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk, 0958, March 13. Traditional
indigenous singing, along with Jew's harp (khomus) music (very nice!);
// 7345 (underneath CNR1); in the clear till 1000, when CRI (7290) signed
on with very strong signal.

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(15) - Ron Howard Mar 16, 2018 00:57 UTC No.3133
ANGOLA. 4949.74, R. Nacional de Angola, 0311, March 14. Decent reception
with frequent clear SAs; earlier (about 0200) had het from AIR Radio Kashmir,
Srinagar on 4950.0.

AUSTRALIA. 5055, 4KZ, 1105-1143, March 15. Finally a day with above threshold
level audio; pop hit songs by Queen, Lionel Richie, Diana Ross, etc. 1200-1205
news with many sound bites, but not quite readable; as usual, best in USB, due to
China QRM from 5050.

[non-log] 5045, Ozy Radio, still silent through March 15, at a quick 1111 check, while
4835 was covered by OTH radar.

EQUATORIAL GUINEA. 5005, RNGE, R. Bata, 0525 (justed missed the sign on), March 14.
Better than normal reception, as audio was slightly above threshold level; repetitive
African singing; by 0540 was unusable.

KOREA SOUTH. 5917.75v, Voice of Freedom, on March 15, after a few days off the air
here, again noted with very slow downward drifting; even though transmitter is drifting, excellent
signal strength and good reception at 1059; no jamming at all, as noted on my audio at
http://goo.gl/8VQYxV , but later by 1300 there was light jamming underneath and very
light hint of QRM from CRI on 5915. Thanks very much to Wolfie, who is also daily
monitoring this drifter, who reported earlier today:

"After a switch-off break on March 13 and 14, noted back on March 15. 'Voice of Freedom'
- Today down now on 5917.769 kHz measured on monitoring at 0530 UT on March 15,
on remote Perseus SDR unit in Seoul SoKorea, S=9+10dB signal strength. Hwaseong bcast
transmission. But suffered by severe jamming, both types, of scratching jammer, as wells as
ditter jamming signals too, broadband up to 5934 kHz."

PHILIPPINES. 17700, R. Pilipinas, 0210, March 14. Segment “From the presidential palace Manila, Dateline
Malacañang”; news from the "PBS News Center"; "Provincial Report" with regional news (joint maritime security
engagement activities conducted by Philippine Navy [units from Mindanao] and the Royal Australian Navy, etc.);
"DFA Online, news and events from different Philippine embassies and consulates around the world," about
overseas Filipino workers. Only this frequency was very readable, with 15640 // 17820 both poor and unreadable

RUSSIA. 7295, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk, 0350, March 14. Infinitely stronger than much weaker // 7345; series
of commercial announcements; ballad; time pips (again with no IS); 0422 start of a long interview; 0500* two time
pips and off the air. My audio at http://goo.gl/PnVbgx .

[non-log] 7295. What happened here? Found them already silent on March 15, from 1146+.
A very short reactivation?

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(15) - Ron Howard Mar 17, 2018 21:18 UTC No.3134
BOUGAINVILLE/INDONESIA. 3325, NBC Bougainville & Pro 1 RRI Palangkaraya, 1038-1112 & 1143-1230, March 17. Both stations taking turns fading up and down; at times about equal strength; 1100 RRI suddenly doing better with local SA and local news, followed as usual at 1108 with full rendition of patriotic song "Bagimu Negeri," which ended the news; NBC cut off at 1159*, leaving RRI in the clear; 1201 the normal Jakarta audio feed/relay of the news; 1222 very surprised to hear only about 20 seconds of the patriotic song "Bagimu Negeri" before they cut away for a series of commercial announcements (this is a new and never before heard format!), normally they play the full, long rendition of "Bagimu Negeri"; 1225 Barbra Streisand singing "The Way We
Were"; a number of "Programa Satu RRI Palangkaraya" SAs.

CHINA. 6035, PBS Yunnan (Voice of Shangri-la), 1124-1136; March 17. In Chinese; pop hit song by 10CC, with "I'm Not in Love"; 1132 English SA - "Yunnan Radio and Television International, the Voice Shangri-la." Bhutan (BBS) clearly not broadcasting today
at this time.

KOREA NORTH[non-logs]. March 17, at 1235, noted many S. Korea frequencies clear of jamming; 3910, 3930, 3985, 5995, 6015, 6135 (a clear frequency with no station here), 6250, (mixing of both Echo of Unification & Echo of Hope - Voice of Hope), 6350, etc.;
about 1253 jamming started up again; this is not uncommon now to find these free of jamming segments. The only exception that I found was the jamming of the Voice of Freedom (5917.56v) did not stop at any time.

BTW - March 17: for a long time now 3250 has been silent. Aoki lists with "x" ("off the air").

KOREA SOUTH. Voice of Freedom, on March 17, continuing their slow downward spiral; today about 5917.56v, at 1254, with heavy jamming, but still doing alright. Now definitely QRMing CRI on 5915. Thanks to Wolfie for his ongoing monitoring here.

6350, Echo of Hope - Voice of Hope, on March 17, at 1240; doing very well with N. Korea jamming being silent; 1246 clear "V O H" SA. My audio http://goo.gl/VC8bVr .

RUSSIA. 7295, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk. A change in scheduling! Recently observed no longer broadcasting 1000+, whereas they are still on the air here till 0500* (noted March 16); this frequency is very much stronger than // 7345.

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(15) - Ron Howard Mar 18, 2018 19:03 UTC No.3135
AUSTRALIA[non-log]. 5045, 5055 & 4835, on March 18, all covered by strong OTH radar; 1120 through to last check at 1322; no possibility of any reception, if they were there.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1039, March 18 (Sunday). In Pidgin; all religious programming; 1102 the usual "NBC Bougainville" promo with musical montage; 1102+ mostly non-stop religious songs; cut off before 1200; at times mixing with Pro 1 RRI Palangkaraya, but NBC stronger than yesterday's reception.

CHINA. 6035, PBS Yunnan (Voice of Shangri-la), noted 1201*, on March 18; went off just as they started their usual musical loop; poor; Bhutan (BBS) again not on the air at this time.

6115 // 9505, Voice of Strait, during a brief check at 1142, on March 18; both with fair reception; only // for about an hour.

INDIA. 4970, AIR Shillong, March 18, with the usual Sunday program "Country Roads"; 1235-1315; playing C&W songs (Tom Jones, Dolly Parton, etc.); must have been a substitute DJ, as normally it's hosted by a young woman with a very pleasant sounding
voice, instead of today's male DJ; several local "The North Eastern Service of All India Radio broadcasting from Shillong" SAs; at times fair. This show has been carried now for many years.

KOREA SOUTH. 5857.5, HLL2 Seoul, 1009-1012, March 18. In English with weather conditions at different observatories around Asia (Shanghai, Hong Kong, etc.); providing wind direction, wind speed in meters per second, air pressure in hectopascals and temperature in Celsius; audio better than normally heard (clearer).

Was very interested to note 1209-1212 they gave different weather info; for locations in Korea(?) for "this afternoon," "tomorrow afternoon" and "day after tomorrow"; first time I have actually observed they don't repeat the same info every hour.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang, Maus Blong Garamut, 1017-1033, March 18. As usual on Sunday, religious preaching and some religious songs; extremely early closing, as noted off the air at a 1122 check and subsequent checking was still silent.

RUSSIA[non-log]. 7295, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk. A change in scheduling! Again on March 18, found them off the air 1014+ and also no 7345 heard underneath CNR1, so they have dropped this time period.

they normally should have been broadcasting.

March 20, also noted 7295 going off the air at 0959*. So they are somewhat
erratic with their scheduling and it's an abbreviated schedule now?

CHINA. 6035, PBS Yunnan (Voice of Shangri-la). New happenings here! During my daily monitoring had often noted a very consistent format. Either cutting off at 1200* or if running somewhat past that, they always started the same musical loop (filler music) at 1201, until they turned off the transmitter. Now am hearing a very different format.

March 20 - No musical loop at 1201, but announcers, in Chinese, continued on till cut off at 1206*.

March 21 - No musical loop at 1201; program format not the usual PBS format, instead many short segments, with what sounded like a number of commercial announcements; format somewhat resembled a commercial station; all in Chinese; played some songs;
still on the air 1305+, long past their normal cut off time.

Ron, listening at Asilomar State Beach (near Monterey), California

Re: PBS Yunnan (Voice of Shangri-la) - Ron Howard Mar 21, 2018 15:30 UTC No.3141

Re: Radio Madagasikara on 6135 kHz. - Ron Howard Mar 22, 2018 15:47 UTC No.3143
MADAGASCAR. 6135.0, Radio Madagasikara (presumed). Have been
following with interest Glenn Hauser's UNID on WOR iog, but until today
(March 22) have been of no help to him due to my daily having strong
N. Korea white noise jamming, which today was off the air. Tuned in at
1325 to hear very faint audio (unusable); signal slowly improved to the
level that the language indeed sounded correct to be them. At 1349
station went off the air for a bit, but noted again at 1352; some
commercial announcements; 1357 instrumental "Bridge Over Trouble
Water"; "presumed," as I heard no specific station SA, but am very
confident was them. Was wonderful to hear this again, as it has been
many years since I last heard them on this frequency! My audio at
http://goo.gl/vtHj44 . My local sunrise was at 1408 UTC, while
Antananarivo sunset was at 1459 UTC.

Ron, listening at Asilomar State Beach (near Monterey), California

Re: PBS Yunnan (Voice of Shangri-la) - Ron Howard Mar 22, 2018 15:53 UTC No.3144
March 22 - Again with no musical loop at 1201 UTC; again with greatly extended
schedule; in Chinese; same format as reported yesterday; still on the air at my last
check of 1351+.

While it is of interest that PBS Yunnan is now on the air much longer than before,
is bad news for Bhutan/BBS (6035) reception. Now whenever they broadcast after
1200+, looks as if they will encounter significant China QRM that was never there
in the past at that time.

Making BBS even more of a challenge now!

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(15) - Ron Howard Mar 26, 2018 02:08 UTC No.3145
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 0958, March 25 (Sunday).
Mostly religious preaching and a lot of religious songs, except for the
NBC news 1001-1011, in English; cut off at 1058* (an unusual time for
them to go off the air!); no RRI Palangkaraya QRM noted, but after NBC
left the air, was able to hear a weak RRI signal. NBC broadcasting here
again after being silent yesterday. Today also had NBC Madang (3260)
on the air with Sunday religious programs.

CHINA[non-log]. 9410, CNR5, 1143, March 25. Surprised to find no station
here; normally CNR5 would have fair reception and be // 5925, but not today;
also not present was the rarer Taiwan station - Fu Hsing BS. Perhaps just a
CNR5 anomaly today?

INDIA. 4970, AIR Shillong, 1237, March 25. The Sunday "Country Roads"
show; this week the usual YL DJ was back again, after last week's substitute
OM DJ; Kenny Rogers "Lady," etc.; almost fair.

KOREA SOUTH. 5917.6, Voice of Freedom, 0957, March 25. Strong signal
with the usual light jamming; still heard at my last check at 1315, again with
fair reception and jamming. As Wolfie has been reporting, they finally stopped
drifting downward and seem to have settled on this frequency, which still
causes QRM for 5915.

6015, KBS Hanminjok Bangsong 1, at 1012, March 21. Mostly in Korean; series
of three nice SAs; first by native speaker of English, second in Korean and third
in English by the host of the program (Kwak Young Il) - "Now you are listening
to KBS, Pop's Freedom"; pop songs (100 Proof Aged In Soul "Somebody's Been
Sleeping," etc.); "KBS" & "Pop's Freedom" IDs, then into "Everyday English";
"Tell your parents we miss them so," "What do you miss the most?", "My mother's
home cooking," etc.; fairly readable due to the normal strong N. Korea white noise
jamming not being on at this time, instead heard with a pulsating noise. Website in
Korean - http://goo.gl/ihRfFe .

TAIWAN. 6230, Sound of Hope, 1026, March 25. Recently has been doing well
here; in Chinese with very long monologue that went on for hours (very unusual!);
still being heard at 1313; listened in LSB, to get away from VMW (Australia Weather
West) in USB. Very rare that CNR1 jams SOH here, but does happen occasionally.

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(15) - Ron Howard Mar 26, 2018 15:26 UTC No.3146
ALASKA. 6045, KNLS, 1236, March 26. A vast improvement here now that
A18 has started; gone now is the 1200-1400 former mess of VOA & jamming
by CRN1; instead a good signal from Alaska with no QRM; in English;
preaching; SA; religious songs.

CHINA. 6572-USB, VC01 (Chinese Military numbers station), on March 26,
at 1150. Numbers in Chinese; fair.

[non-log] 9410, CNR5, 1140, 1240 & 1325, March 26. Again with no station
at all here. Change in schedule? This is nice, so if Taiwan (Fu Hsing BS)
should again broadcast here, which they intermittently do, they will be in
the clear!

KOREA NORTH[non]. back to former alternate 6040 (ex: 5935), Shiokaze/
Sea Breeze, via Yamata (Japan), at 1316, on March 26. In Japanese; fair-good,
as the N. Korea jamming was still down on ex 5935 (along with Tibet). Also heard
today by Rick Barton (thanks Rick!). Will take N. Korea a few days to note the
change and start jamming 6040.

MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, 1217-1229, March 26 (Monday). Today's
edition of "Say It In English" was a repeat program, which was originally
reported by me back in 2017:

"5985, Myanmar Radio, on Sept 20, heard the start of the Wednesday edition
of "Say It In English" at 1247; continuing adventures (dialogue) of "Tom," who
this week was sick; some type of QRN, but still with decent reception; program
only on Monday and today. My readable seven minute audio at http://goo.gl/Mzi2Mu ."

Re: Ozy Radio on new 4835 kHz. - Ron Howard Mar 28, 2018 16:14 UTC No.3150
AUSTRALIA. new frequency of 4835, Ozy Radio, ex: 5045, March 28.
Craig's first day here; thanks to Fred Vos's timely alert in WOR iog,
started monitoring at 1009 UTC, only to find strong OTH radar (4810-
4885); OTHR still there at 1219; a check at 1236 had OTHR gone, but
seemed like a utility on the high side of 4835, blocked any reception;
by 1240 no longer with any QRM; weak Ozy signal fading in and out
(unusable); heard mostly music and occasional announcer (still unusable);
luckily my local sunrise today was at 1359 UTC, so I was able to catch a
positive "Waltzing Matilda" at 1406, after the news, which was the only
meaningful detail I could pull in. My brief WM audio at http://goo.gl/1SN6ve .

Re: Taiwan - Sound of Hope IDs in English - Ron Howard Mar 28, 2018 17:35 UTC No.3151
TAIWAN. 6230, Sound of Hope, 1411-1425+, March 28. News segment
with brief musical bridges that are played between items; the same music
has been used for many years, which certainly helps ID SOH; 1421 clear
SA in English for "Sound of Hope," otherwise in Chinese; fair reception,
listening in LSB to get away from VMW (Australia Weather West), which
is in USB. Very rare to catch CNR1 (China) jamming SOH here.

Recently have been monitoring SOH here and find they occasionally give
these SAs in English, but are rather random and not at any set time, so it
may take considerable listening before one hears them. My audio clip at
http://goo.gl/y5tvbP (ID at 0:42 on my audio) (music bridge at 2:18 on my
audio).

AIR= Australian independent Radio News.
1000 watts into the inverted V antennae at Razorback near Camden 25 NM SW of Sydney.
Yes Craig is testing this frequency!
Thank you for the information about the interference. Will pass onto Craig."

Hello! Hiroyuki and Ron-san.

Ron-san.
Always thank you from California.
Blue sky, blue sea and pure white waves.
What a beautiful picture this is!
Listening to SW while watching the beautiful scenery is the best!

I was challenged to WeatherFAX reception from California.

USA. 8682, NMC Point Reyes, California, 1400-1413, March 29.
My report at http://radio.chobi.net/DX/weatherBBS/?res:34

And, I was listening to your SOH reception audio.

Nice catch from California! Ron-san.

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(15) - Ron Howard Mar 31, 2018 01:34 UTC No.3155
ANGOLA. 4949.74, R. Nacional de Angola, March 30. Clearly off the air
0218 through subsequent checking of 0357; noted on the air 0424+.

AUSTRALIA. 4835, Ozy Radio, March 30 was the best day so far; 1204
(after the news) the usual format of commercial announcement for radios
("We have thousands of satisfied customers around the world. So why
not join them today?"), followed by laughing kookaburra, then nice
"Waltzing Matilda"; followed by former Australian jazz-rock group,The
Southern Contemporary Rock Assembly (SCRA), with "Roly Poly."
Any day that this is strong enough for me to SA a song that I had never
heard before, well that's a good day, even if it's poor reception. My "Roly
Poly" audio clip at http://goo.gl/QvPTLH .

At 1220, started to notice a definite second audio that was mixing here
with Ozy Radio; assume was AIR Gangtok (Sikkim); by 1305 could only
make out a distinctive het (SAH [subaudible heterodyne]); Glenn Hauser
today reported 1229-1234 with SAH, along with Ozy Radio. Was perfect
timing to hear audio from AIR Gangtok, as their local sunset was at 1222 UT.
Today was the first time I have heard Gangtok since Craig started
broadcasting here. Gangtok had recently been broadcasting rather erratically,
as was not on the air every day.

BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, 1143-1156*, March 30. In English; playing pop songs in
English; mixing with PBS Yunnan, which fortunately was mostly announcers in
Chinese; clearly two stations on frequency; BBS with decent signal, but the PBS
QRM made Bhutan unreadable. Thimphu sunset was at 1218 UT. My audio of
them mixing at http://goo.gl/Fb52ig .

BOLIVIA. 5952.42, Radio Pio Doce, 0222, March 30. Start of whistling “Colonel
Bogey March,” with full SA and chimes; almost fair; 0224 end of audio; then just
carrier (dead air); stayed here till transmitter off at 0241.

CONGO[Republic of]. 6115, Radio Congo (presumed), on March 30, at 0555; had
just missed the sign on; announcers in French; mixing with stronger Japan ("RN2"),
which had mostly pop songs in Japanese or English; Congo with no music.
Brazzaville local sunrise was at 0501 UT, so by 0605 signal was unusable against
the more powerful RN2. My audio at http://goo.gl/k4kmhf .

EQUATORIAL GUINEA. 5005, RNGE, R. Bata, on March 30, at 0524; had just
missed the sign on; certainly one of my better receptions here; nicely above
threshold level audio with pop African songs; music 0524-0530, when the audio
suddenly ended; after that had decent level carrier (dead air), but never again with
any audio heard; tuned away at 0540. Station must have started close to the Bata
local sunrise of 0521 UT. My audio at http://goo.gl/KGtBCC . Wonderful to
finally get some decent audio here for a change.

Ron, listening at Asilomar State Beach (near Monterey), California

Greatly appreciate your help! Ron

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(15) - Ron Howard Apr 02, 2018 03:46 UTC No.3157

AUSTRALIA. 5055, 4KZ, with well above average reception, 1039-1107,
April 1. Mostly pop songs (Bee Gees "How Deep Is Your Love," Bobby
McFerrin "Don't Worry Be Happy," Eagles "One Of These Nights," etc.);
1100-1107 news & weather ("chance of thunderstorm"); best in USB due
to QRM from China (Beibu Bay Radio) on 5050.

4835, Ozy Radio, April 1, yet another day with improved reception; getting
better and better; 1017 sounded like a drama(?); pop songs; 1025 spot
mentioning "Melbourne"(?); Australian singer Olivia Newton-John with
"If You Love Me, Let Me Know." My audio at http://goo.gl/qy728L . Audio
contains the sweeping sounds of QRM from CODAR (article about Monterey
Bay, California, CODAR HF radar - http://goo.gl/m2ggBs); today no OTH
radar or utility QRM.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, April 1, above average conditions,
making for fairly readable reception; 0927 religious (Christian) song in English;
0932 start of Easter Sunday sermon in Pidgin, with good number of words in
English; "number one feast day on the Christian calendar," "victorious over sin
in the world, corruption, injustice, exploitation," "human solidarity," "we must
take control of our lives," etc.; noted 1202* cut off, leaving RRI Palangkaraya
in the clear. My audio at http://goo.gl/zRr42g .

INDIA. 7554.82, AIR via Delhi-Kingsway, 1219, April 1. Almost fair with good
audio. Seems to me Kingsway uses two transmitters(?) here on different days -
one about 7555.69 and the other one on the low side of 7555; have noted some
slight drifting, but not enough to account for the two frequencies.

KOREA NORTH. 6040, testing their jamming (pulsating noise) at *1210, on April 1,
as at 1300, Shiokaze will sign on; transmitter on-off-on. . .; this caused QRM for
both China (PBS Yunnan) on 6035 and for Alaska (KNLS) on 6045.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut), 1007, April 1.
Repetitive, long religious song; 1013 start of an Easter Sunday religious service;
perhaps from a church,as the audio was not very good.

Ron, listening at Asilomar State Beach (near Monterey), California

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(15) - Ron Howard Apr 02, 2018 18:20 UTC No.3160

ALASKA. 6045 // 7355 , KNLS, on April 2, at 1227, both with excellent
(a term I rarely use!) reception; basic SW DXing info (my audio at
http://goo.gl/KfrX9R). Thanks very much to Glenn for "Other English at
12-13 now listed as 7355, unconfirmed yet here (Glenn Hauser, WORLD
OF RADIO 1923, ibid.)," in DXLD 18-13.

Interesting to compare my reception out here on the coast, compared to
Glenn's QTH - "7355, March 30 at 1248, trying to hear KNLS English hour
as now scheduled: only a JBA carrier under residual Cuban pulse jamming
against nothing else. // 6045 presumed KNLS with JBA signal... (Glenn
Hauser, OK)."

AUSTRALIA. 5055, 4KZ, April 2, tuned in at 1016 to find strong OTH radar;
still strong QRM at last 1315 check, so no reception possible today.

4835, Ozy Radio, April 2. Day by day slightly improving; 1034 with Australian
duo, Air Supply, with "Making Love Out Of Nothing At All"; 1100 news ending
at 1106 with the usual commercial announcement for radios, laughing
kookaburra, "Waltzing Matilda" and brief SA; still with QRM from CODAR.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, April 2, at 1016, with "Unchained
Melody" by The Righteous Brothers; 1024 promo for "NBC Bougainville";
1125 in Pidgin, about next years independence referendum; 1130-1136
speech in English by Hon. Chief Dr. John Momis (President of the
Autonomous Bougainville Government) about independence issues for
Bougainville, need for adequate housing, critical of the national government
"sabotaging" the people of Bougainville, etc.; semi-readable.

CHINA[non-log]. 9410, CNR5. Clearly this has been dropped from the A18
schedule. April 2, still a totally clear frequency at 1206; also no Taiwan, but
on 9774, had definite weak carrier, so assume Fu Hsing BS.

MALAYSIA. 11665, Wai FM Limbang, 1315, April 2 (Monday). Start of the
Monday segment of the "Wai FM Limbang" portion of RTM broadcasts; pop
songs; frequent SAs.

Note that Aoki lists "RTM Wai/Limbang FM" here, which perhaps has confused
some folks? Believe the "Wai FM Limbang" SA is only used on Monday &
Thursday from 1315 to 1400, otherwise is just the straight "Wai FM" SA, or
has someone actually heard a clear "Wai FM Limbang" SA at any other time/day?

Was very interested to learn that Timm Breyel, who lives in Malaysia, posted to
WRTH Facebook page, a log and audio clip for his 0410 UT reception on 11665;
SAing as "Radio Tawau" & "Limbang FM, Radio Tawau". I had never heard these
SAs before (not possible to hear them at 0410 at my QTH), so of course I very
much enjoyed hearing his clear audio clip! It certainly helps reception by living in
Malaysia! https://app.box.com/s/7skup8625aqmqmeoqxzu0o2e9umag72a Thanks
to Timm for passing this along, as well as his informing of this:

"With General Elections in Malaysia coming up in a few months, Sarawak FM and
Wai FM seem to be operating round-the-clock. A few days ago (26 March 2018),
I noticed Sarawak FM programming on both 9.835 kHz and 11.665 kHz after 18.00
UTC. Limbang FM - Radio Tawau (Sabah) was equally unusual; generally Wai FM
(Sabah) is heard. Transmission is from Kajang (Selangor) / studio programming
originates presumably in Limbang/Tawau (Sabah)." Dan Sheedy (Calif.) has also
heard the greatly extended current schedule.

Also RTM just celebrated their 72nd year of broadcasting on April 1.

Re: Malaysia - Ron Howard Apr 03, 2018 17:38 UTC No.3161
MALAYSIA. 9835, Sarawak FM via Kajang (on the west coast of the Malaysia
peninsular), 1408-1448, April 3. In vernacular; coverage of the national competition
for recitations from the Qur'an (Majlis Tilawah Dan Menghafaz Al-Quran Peringkat
Kebangsaan), being held this year at the Putrajaya Islamic Complex; sponsored by
the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia; series of about 10 minutes of
reciting, with both men and women in the competition; very rare to hear women,
but they have a women's division in the competition; 1445 mentioned "RTM." This
could possibly be a TV audio feed? Being held from April 1-6, so there should be
more days with this coverage here; fair. 1500-1510 news in vernacular (not // 11665).

11665, Wai FM, 1500, April 3. Start of a program of uniquely indigenous music and
chanting; at 1503 the singular "Wai FM" SA; still chanting at 1511.

Re: Malaysia - Ron Howard Apr 04, 2018 23:52 UTC No.3162
On April 6 (Friday), I will be checking 9835 kHz, after 1200+ UT, as that
will be the last day of this years Qur'an recital and memorization competitions.
Every year they announce the winners of the various categories on the last
day. Of special interest is the fact that the program is given in Malay, Arabic
and English (French had been used in past years, but not in 2015). Makes,
I think, for entertaining listening! BTW - This year I have not heard the
competition on 11665 kHz., but only 9835. Have also checked for possible
special reactivation on 5965 (Radio Klasik) and 6050 (Asyik FM), but both
are not on the air, so it's just 9835 this year.

My clear audio (edited to only English), is at http://goo.gl/HLcbvi of the 2015,
International Al Quran Recital and Memorization Assembly program; starting
with National Anthem and "Your Royal Highness, excellencies, distinguished
guests, ladies and gentlemen. Good evening and welcome to the closing night
and prize presentation ceremony . . . ."

- - - - From WRTH Facebook page:

Mauno Ritola
As Ron Howard reported on WOR list, Mongolian Radio has reactivated 7260 kHz.
Let's see, for how long this time? Weak signal here in Finland, co-ch. Xinjiang-Ch
much stronger. Mongolia on nominal fq, Xinjiang 10 Hz below. Both 4895 and
4830 kHz remain off at 0915. Surprisingly this time not carrying either 1st or 2nd
prgr, but the third one! [link to program three - http://www.mnb.mn/live/radio3]

Ron Howard
April 8 - From 1130 to 1148 UTC, on 7260 kHz., non-stop pop songs by same YL
American singer; no announcements at all; assume Mongolia and clearly fits the
program three format of non-stop pop songs; stronger than China, which fortunately
was just talking till they started music at 1148, making for more of a challenge to
make out Mongolia. Thanks very much to Mauno for the positive confirmation and
link to program three. Very nice to have them active again! Today nothing on 4830
nor on 4895.

- - - - - Ron wrote in DXLDyg & WOR iog:

Hi Eduard,

Here in California, have recently been checking 7259.96 kHz. for the return of
Vanuatu. Last week heard a second station on 7260.0 kHz. (other than the
normal China heard there) and thought it could have been new activity from
Mongolia, during my early morning (1130+ UT). Due to this, I had carefully
been also checking 4830 kHz. and 4895 kHz. every morning, to see if they
switched to these lower frequencies. April 7, I was unable to check, but Jim
Young (also Calif.) did in fact hear carriers on both frequencies. So I think
there is an excellent chance Mongolia is active again. Am very sure Vanuatu
has not returned yet to their normal off frequency of 7259.96 kHz.

KOREA SOUTH. back to former 6045.0, Voice of Freedom, 1038+, April 10,
ex: 5917.4v. In Korean and with pop songs; strong signal and good reception,
without any jamming, as it's their first day back here.

Look for serious QRM from Alaska (KNLS) from 1200 to 1300, which will also be
on frequency.

Re: Mongolian Radio 3 on 4895 kHz. - Ron Howard Apr 10, 2018 12:08 UTC No.3167
MONGOLIA. 7260, Mongolian Radio 3, on April 9, from 1128 to 1157; same format
as noted yesterday; non-stop EZL songs ("While My Guitar Gently Weeps," etc.);
QRM from China on frequency. R. Vanuatu has not returned yet to the air.

April 10, at 1040+, noted carrier on 4895, which was Mongolian Radio 3, as confirmed
by Mauno Ritola in WRTH Facebook: "Also 4895 kHz is reactivated today, also carrying
the 3rd network." First noted on this frequency recently by Jim Young (Calif.).

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1100, April 13. In Pidgin;
promo for "NBC Bougainville" (no news); DJ with pop songs; poor;
some RRI QRM; noted 1204* cut off. NBC Madang (3260) off the
air today.

KOREA NORTH[non-logs]. Noted 1004-1021, also 1119 to past 1150 &
1222-1236, on April 13, with no jamming of S. Korea frequencies; 3910,
3930, 3985, 5995, 6015, 6135, 6250, 6350, etc.

KOREA SOUTH. Echo of Hope - Voice of Hope (VOH), 3985 // 5995 // 6250
// 6350 // 9100, on April 13, noted several segments without the normal N.
Korea jamming; 1004-1021, also 1119 to past 1150 & 1222-1236; this being
their main VOH program.

4885, Echo of Hope - Voice of Hope (VOH), continues on with their separate
program in Korean; "Radio Broadcasting Guide" (not // to the other frequencies);
long list of IDs for stations heard in S. Korea. This one hour program is repeated
every hour. Never jammed. April 13, at 1137+.

Voice of the People, 3910 // 3930 // 4450 // 6520 // 6600, noted April 13, during
segments with no N. Korea jamming; 1004-1021, also 1119 to past 1150 & 1222-
1236; mostly fair.

6015, KBS Hanminjok Bangsong 1, on April 13, from 1006+. Mostly in Korean;
pop songs (John Denver - "Annie's Song," etc.); series of SAs ("Now you are
listening to KBS, Pop's Freedom"); segment "Everyday English" ("... wrong side
of the road. Sure was a close call."); readable due to the absence of the N. Korea
white noise jamming. Also in the clear 1222

6045, Voice of Freedom, April 13, at 1000, with the start of the program in Korean
called "Haengboghan Daehanmingug" ("Happy Republic of Korea"); reception
fair-good. Clear reception here, as jamming still down on 5920. My audio at
http://goo.gl/yrh7X7 .

MONGOLIA. 7260, Mongolian Radio 3 (presumed), on April 13, at 1217. EZL
music, which is consistent with the program three format; mixing with China, in
Chinese. Definite carrier also heard on 4895, but again with no audio detected.

Re: UNID on 7155.0 kHz. - Ron Howard Apr 16, 2018 14:32 UTC No.3174
UNID 7155.0 kHz.

April 16, noted a very weak signal on 7155.0 kHz., at 1057 UTC,
with music; 1100-1109 YL announcer; 1109-1118 OM announcer; no
meaningful details could be pulled out from this very weak
reception; ham QRM; believe this station is not a ham.

- - - - per WRTH Facebook:

Mauno Ritola
Hiroyuki Okamura, can you hear this?

Hiroyuki Okamura
Weak Signal. Music Low Module.

Mauno Ritola
Thanks. Maybe it identifies at 1300?

Hiroyuki Okamura
Because it is in the HAM band, there are many interference.
The sound is also weak. Which broadcasting station is this?

Mauno Ritola
If we knew, we wouldn't ask :-)

Mauno Ritola
I have a weak signal via Akitaka remote rx, no problem with hams,
but the signal is too weak.

Ron Howard - Re: UNID 7155.0 kHz.

- - - - feedback today from Jim Young (Calif.):

"Listening to this at 1257, with F voice talking No TS at TOH. F voice
continued to past 1304. I am biased, but sounds FF. Not strong, but
audio far better than AIR stations on 60-M.

Could this be the old irregular 30 KW station in Madagascar? I will stay
on this while she is talking still at 1307+. F Singing mx at 1311:30, and F
announcer back at 1315+. Talking still at 1320, but not sure if same
announcer now....maybe M." Jim left his home to go to a better remote
site near him, but when he arrived at 1333, he found this UNID had already
left the air.

ANDAMAN & NICOBAR ISLANDS. 4760, AIR Port Blair (presumed
not to be AIR Leh [Kashmir]). On April 17, with better than normal
reception 1343-1353; my local sunrise was at 1330 UT; good signal
strength cutting through the QRN (static) and CODAR QRM.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1041-1132, April 17. In
Pidgin; pop and religious music; no news at ToH; seems to not be on
the air every day; some RRI QRM.

CHINA. 6035, PBS Yunnan, 1210-1240 & 1329, April 17. Clearly a
permanent change in format and schedule since March 21; daily noted
many hours past former 1200*; still in the relay mode of a FM station;
in Chinese; many commercial announcements; seems no longer the
"Voice of Shangri-la" format; at 1329, with considerable N. Korean
jamming QRM from 6040 (Shiokaze) and that also causes QRM for
Voice of Freedom on 6045.

Suggest that if folks are hearing just a solo station here after 1200, that
it's Yunnan and not Bhutan, which when BBS is on the air, normally
would go off about 1200 and when they do run past 1200, their format
is very different than PBS and would in fact be mixing with Yunnan.

INDIA. 4970, AIR Shillong, 1316, April 17. A day with much stronger than
usual audio; in Hindi and subcontinent music; almost fair.

KOREA SOUTH. 6045.0, Voice of Freedom, April 15 (Sunday), at 0945,
with the start of the program in Korean called "Ingwon balo algi" ("Know
human rights correctly"); portion with radio drama; reception fair-good with
no jamming, which was still down on 5920. My audio of SA at http://goo.gl/VArjR5 .
The SAs I'm making here are only possible with the kind guidance of Amano-san
(Saitama, Japan). Not off frequency here and no drifting, so definitely a different
transmitter than was heard on 5917.4v.

MONGOLIA. 7260, Mongolian Radio 3 (presumed), on April 16, at 1032. Phone in
program; same program heard again on April 17; not bad reception, as China had
not propagated yet; both days not on 4830 nor 4895.

RUSSIA. 7295 // 7345, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk, 0950, April 15. Commercial
announcements ("on-line" service, etc.) and music; ToH time pips (still with no IS);
fair, with both frequencies doing well. My audio clip at http://goo.gl/CB3wXe .

UNIDENTIFIED. 7155.0, thanks to Jim Young, Mauno Ritola and Thorsten Hallmann
for their assistance with this one. April 17, both Mauno and I noted 1328*; very weak
reception; at times able to tell whether announcers or music, but reception otherwise
unusable. Mauno speculates that this is a VOV spur, which I certainly agree with, as
does Thorsten. Seems the most logical conclusion!

Pidgin playing pop Pacific Islands music; no news at 1100; only very
slight RRI QRM after 1150. BTW - No NBC Madang (3260) today.

CHINA. 7192-USB, VC01 (Chinese Military numbers station), on April 19,
at 1140, with numbers in Chinese; fair reception.

MONGOLIA. 4895 // 7260, Mongolian Radio 3 (presumed), on April 19,
after 1203+, with pop music; clearly //; still heard with audio on 4895, past
1307+, but by then definite QRM from Voice of Strait (China) on 4900,
which started at *1300. Very rare for me to pull in any audio on 4895
(10kW). Noted 4830 was silent. Also heard today by Jim Young (Calif.).

carrier and we know Ozy Radio is off the air for a while here, so now is a

ALASKA. 6045, KNLS, 1229, April 20. Strong signal, but mixing with
equally strong Voice of Freedom (Korea). What was unusual was that
// 7355 was not on the air today (had recently been heard with good
signal).

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1019-1157*, April 20. DJ in
Pidgin playing pop Pacific Islands songs and pop hit songs in English
(Shania Twain - "From This Moment On," etc.); speech in English about
2019 referendum; 1102 sound affects and series of "NBC Bougainville"
SAs; no news at 1100; suddenly cut off in mid-song; stronger signal than
usual. Pro 1 RRI Palangkaraya (3325) was clearly not broadcasting
during this time period, nor after 1157.

BTW - NBC Madang (3260), on April 20, also with above average reception;
1159-1212*, cut off in mid-song.

CHINA. 6115, Voice of Strait, 1220, April 20. Reception here well above the
norm, while the other VOS frequency on 9505 was silent; normally they are
both heard with fair reception.

MONGOLIA. 7260, Mongolian Radio 3 (presumed), on April 20, at 1217. Pop
music and announcers; clearly not in Chinese, but with China QRM. On 4895,
heard OTH radar blocking frequency 1216-1318, but by 1324 no radar and no
Mongolia; 4830 also silent.

So 7260 is on daily, with 4895 being on erratically.

SIKKIM. 4835, AIR Gangtok (presumed), 1213, April 20. Had a definite, decent
strength carrier, but by 1318 off the air.

SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC, on April 20, noted with extended broadcast;
at 1224, with decent level carrier, but no audio (has been a long time since I last
was able to make out any audio here); due to their being on the air longer than
usual, was in fact able to faintly hear some music and announcers by 1256; went
off the air sometime around 1319. In past years their audio level was fine.

BHUTAN/CHINA. 6035, on April 21:

BBS (Bhutan), mixing with relay of FM 99 (Kunming, Yunnan Province, China), from 1125, till BBS cut off at 1139*; certainly two stations mixing here; one with mostly non-stop music (believe FM 99 relay) and the other mostly with announcers (believe BBS); onward from 1139 to 1320, just FM 99 programming here, with various amounts of adjacent QRM (at times heavy QRM); overall reception was poor; format consisted of segments with either non-stop EZL pop songs or non-stop commercial announcements in Chinese; I presume this to be the relay of FM 99, as others have confirmed SA (see below), but I think it will be a challenge for me to actually make out an SA here due to poor reception and at the beach, I don't have access to FM 99 online audio streaming.

Thanks very much to Mauno Ritola and Hiroyuki Komatsubara for establishing the positive ID of the FM relay. Great work on their part!

From Mauno - "Yes, FM 99 relay 2300-1630 in Chinese as far as I have managed to check, also at 1000 and 1100. But there is still one Shangri-La segment in Vietnamese 1630-1700 and also SA in English." ["Yunnan Radio and Television International, the Voice of Shangri-La" - Ron]

BHUTAN/CHINA. 6035, on April 26, with BBS extended broadcast:

PBS Yunnan (assume FM99 relay), from 1141 to 1301+; in Chinese;
announcers and music.

BBS, mixing with PBS Yunnan, from 1141 till about 1255. From 1141
to 1202 seemed to be in English, with pop songs; 1202-1223 usual OM
monologue; normal brief breaks for indigenous instrumental music at 1217
and 1221; then 1221-1230 into segment with songs; after 1230 announcer
and later some more songs; still heard at 1250, but probably off about 1255
(too weak to be positive).

In the past was always nice when BBS went past 1200, as Yunnan would go
off about 1200, but no longer the case, with PBS running till at least 1600.

CANADA. 6030, Calgary - CFVP relaying CKMX (AM 1060), 1208+, on April 25;
mixing with stronger CNR12; comedians with lots of canned laughter; several
clear SAs; "Laugh your ass off to and from work with Calgary's all new funny
10-60 AM" and "share a laugh with us . . . Calgary's all new funny 10-60 AM.
Jerry Seinfeld"; Calgary and Monterey today with same sunrise time (1320 UT).
Surprising how well 100w was doing up against 100kW.

KOREA NORTH. 3320 // 6400, Pyongyang BS, 1244 & 1322, April 26, with 6400
much stronger, but this frequency certainly not on the air daily, while 3320 is every
day.

MONGOLIA. 4830, 4895 & 7260, Mongolian Radio 3 (presumed), on April 26, after
1114+; only carrier on 4830 & 4895, with audio on 7260 (QRM China); 7260 is noted
daily, while 4895 is on some days, while 4830 has not been used often. Jim Young
(Calif.) was also hearing these today.

USA. 7505v, WRNO, on April 26, from 1121 to 1138. Have monitored their Chinese
language programs a number of times, but today heard with a different format; native
speaker of English preaching, saying a few sentences, followed by another person
translating into Chinese; 1137 contact info in Chinese and English. My audio at

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1116 till cut off at 1201*, April 27.
In Pidgin, with several long interviews; one with police commissioner; very
little music being played today, but several C&W songs (Alabama with
"Take Me Down," etc.); very slight RRI QRM. BTW - NBC Madang (3260)
today also with decent reception.

CONGO[Republic of]. 6115, Radio Congo (presumed), on April 27, with
*0538; programming entirely with announcers in French (no music) till tuned
out at 0555; mixing with Japan (SAing as "RN2, Radio Nikkei"), which was
playing mostly non-stop music; today RN2 weaker than normal; Brazzaville
local sunrise was at 0457 UT.

MONGOLIA. 7260 being the only active frequency for Mongolian Radio 3
(presumed), on April 27; both 4830 & 4895 silent; 1245+; one of their better
days here; mostly easy-listening pop songs; briefly with announcers; slight
China QRM. My audio at http://goo.gl/hZvAyA .

Re: Monitoring Korea - Ron Howard Apr 27, 2018 23:50 UTC No.3213
With all the current political activity going on in Korea, we should certainly
be monitoring Korea for any new developments on SW.

- - - - April 27: Email from Martyn Williams:

"Hey Ron,

I'm closely monitoring the North/South propaganda radios with interest.

The declaration signed at the summit today said "South and North Korea
agreed to completely cease all hostile acts against each other in every
domain, including land, air and sea, that are the source of military tension
and conflict. In this vein, the two sides agreed to transform the demilitarized
zone into a peace zone in a genuine sense by ceasing as of May 1 this year
all hostile acts and eliminating their means, including broadcasting through
loudspeakers and distribution of leaflets, in the areas along the Military
Demarcation Line."

I have no idea if this means the radio stations will temporarily (permanently)
fall silent or just continue. The broadcasting mentioned above, that always
pisses off the North Koreans, is the loudspeaker stuff.

Let me know if you notice any changes.

It's all still on the air now with jamming, via remote SDR."

- - - WRTH Facebook page (April 27):

Chris Kadlec
Expect some major changes on the Korean radio dials starting on May 1st.
All propaganda stations on FM, MW, and SW are likely to go dark or change
programming. VOF and the others from Hwaseong, Taereung, and Goyang
are likely to go dark. With the loudspeakers being turned off on the 1st, expect
101.7, 103.1, and 107.3 (all run parallel to the speakers) to likely revert back
to their old format of military educational stations (formerly "DEBS" when I
first moved to Korea with English lessons, etc.), though no clue what will
become of Jayu FM (94.5, 96.1, 97.7, 100.6). V15 and V24 numbers
stations are likely to go dark as well, which they usually are 99% of the
day anyway. No information from the north on the fate of their stations,
naturally, but I'd expect 97.8 Haeju and its rebroadcasters outside Seoul
to turn off (as they are purely propaganda only), though the other AM and
FM networks are domestic-based. Jammers will likely continue due to this.
Or not? (Nobody knows anything).
[April 26, at 1020+, found VOF with their usual strong signal on 6045.0 kHz.
and again heard April 27 - Ron]

Re: Update - 4KZ on 5055 kHz. - Ron Howard Apr 28, 2018 23:44 UTC No.3214
Al Kirton (general manager of Radio 4KZ, on 5055 kHz.), sent a brief
video of the 4KZ studio, located at Innisfail (Queensland). The studio
has a nice view of the Johnstone River.

Video at http://goo.gl/8FCKWB .

John Wright (Australia) indicates that the 5055 kHz. station, as of April 26,
is now 1kW.

On April 28, I did in fact note a slight improvement and was almost able to
catch a song title, checking from 1119+. So is worth starting to monitor 4KZ
again, especially on days with good propagation. Thanks to Johno for this info.

ALASKA. 6045, KNLS, *1200, April 28. Voice of Freedom already on
frequency with good signal, along with N. Korea jamming; suddenly on
with SA & IS; // 7355. My audio at http://goo.gl/g5Hpsv .

AUSTRALIA. 5055, 4KZ, on April 29. Yes, all the evidence here points to
being 1kW now; 1214+ with mostly pop songs and some commercial
announcements; above threshold level audio; finally at 1315 was able to
SA a song (Dobie Gray - "Drift Away"), whereas the other songs played I
was not familiar with. My local sunrise was at 1316 UT.

This station started last year on Dec 20. Was doing fairly well for only 500w
back in Dec-Jan, but Feb-Apr found most days with below threshold level
audio (unusable), so was very nice today to be able to actually hear this at
a level that I could SA a song. Look forward to days with even better
propagation here.

[non-log] 4835, Ozy Radio, on April 29, continues to be silent here. Only
hearing some faint audio from AIR Gangtok (presumed), at 1257.

BANGLADESH. 4750, Bangladesh Betar - HS, 1235-1242, April 30. The
Monday only SAARC (The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation)
news bulletin in English; “Assalamu alaikum. This is Bangladesh Betar”; items -
three members of the UN Security Council delegation visiting Bangladesh held
news conference, loan agreement for railroad project signed Friday in Beijing
between Bangladesh & China, eleven children died Thursday due to train hitting
a school bus in India and Indian guru sentenced to life in prison for rape; very rare
that I can make out so many news items, as usually there is too much CODAR and
CNR1 QRM; at 1255 the end of the daily very brief segment with the weather in
English.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, on April 29, with another Sunday of
religious (Christian) programs; impassioned preaching in Pidgin; religious/inspirational songs ("Keep On the Sunny Side," "Show Me The Way To A Brighter Day," etc.); above average reception; 0937-1054 & 1205*. Also this Sunday with the same format of religious programs was NBC Madang (3260), with even more preaching in Pidgin than on 3325.

1001-1010, on 3325, with NBC news/sports, but 3260 didn't carry the news, but instead
more preaching. A rare day with both stations well above the norm.

CHINA. 7345-USB, V26, at 0912, on April 30. Numbers given in Chinese; poor. For about
three days have not heard Russia (R. Sakha) here, nor on 7295.

KOREA NORTH/SOUTH. April 30. So far all SW activity seems normal, with the usual S.
Korean stations being jammed. What will happen tomorrow?

MONGOLIA. 4830 and 7260, seemed the only active frequencies for Mongolian Radio 3
(presumed), on April 30, at 1205; 4830 with decent level carrier and 7260 the usual audio mixing with China; while 4895 was completely silent; both still noted at 1245, but 4830 was off the air by 1258, with 7260 still on.

RUSSIA[non-log]. 7295 & 7345, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk, on April 30. Has not been heard
for about three days now.

TAIWAN. 9774, Fu Hsing BS, 1115 & 1243, on April 28. Best in LSB; faint audio; nothing on clear frequency of 9410. Same noted again on April 30.

KOREA NORTH/SOUTH. On May 1, looking for any of the expected
changes that might have happened today. None noted; the status quo
has been maintained.

Checking the two frequencies I was most interested in, found 6015 with
KBS Hanminjok Bangsong 1 blocked by the usual white noise jamming
from N. Korea and 6135 also had strong white noise jamming, when
monitoring from 1043 through 1358, so no chance to check for
Madagascar on 6135. Also 6045 with the normal good signal strength
from the Voice of Freedom, but also with the usual light jamming.

Can we still hope that the jamming may stop in the near future?

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(15) - Ron Howard May 02, 2018 22:42 UTC No.3225
ALASKA. 6045, KNLS, 1208, May 2. Interesting anomaly. During
my daily monitoring of the Voice of Freedom here from Korea, I
had recently been observing KNLS with strong *1200, in English,
but not so today; had Russian audio feed instead; normally would
have been // 7355, but not so today, as that frequency indeed was
carrying the correct schedule of English audio feed. Probably a one
day mix up?

BHUTAN/CHINA. 6035, on May 2, at 1135, with BBS (Bhutan), mixing
with relay of FM99 (Kunming, Yunnan Province, China), via PBS Yunnan;
BBS cut off at 1150*; after which FM99 was in the clear with their usual
FM type programming in Chinese, and was still being heard at 1440, long
past the former "Voice of Shangri-la" format that cut off about 1200*.

KOREA NORTH. 3320 // 6400, Pyongyang BS, 1124, May 2. With 6400
strong signal, but this frequency certainly not on the air daily, while 3320
is daily.

SINGAPORE. 9410, BBC, 1033-1101, May 2. As I daily check here for
Fu Hsing BS (Taiwan), was surprised today to find BBC for the first time
(ex: 9900), in English, with a good signal; interesting story about former
Soviet Union causing the drying up of the Aral Sea, located by Kazakhstan
and Uzbekistan. So 1000-1200 impossible to tell if Taiwan is here or not.
9774 (Fu Hsing BS ) was silent today.

Thank you for always reporting.

KOREA SOUTH. 6045, VOF Yagan Bangsong (Nighttime Program) ,
1800-1900, on May 3.
At this time, there was no North Korean Pip Jamming.
It seems that program composition of Yagan Bangsong has been
partially modified in May.

My audio at http://radio.chobi.net/bbsasia/img/4211.mp3
1800-1900, a new Yagan Bangsong program
"Pyeon-an ttae deudneun eum-ag pyeonjib" appeared.
In English program name it is
"Music editing to listen when comfortable".

At 2100 on April 16, I have confirmed this program
on Ojeon bangsong (Morning program).

The first song of this time was "Flower Road" by BIGBANG.

Ivo's April 28 log (scheduled 1300-1400); so tuned in at 1300, on May 5,
but at *1301, frequency covered by extremely strong signal of CNR2,
so impossible for me to hear any English; couldn't make out anything
1300-1301.

Re: UNIDENTIFIED on 9410-USB + carrier - Ron Howard May 07, 2018 15:57 UTC No.3233
UNIDENTIFIED. 9410-USB + carrier, from 1238-1321 and still on at
1402+, on May 7. In Chinese; monologue 1238-1249; 1249+ non-stop
easy-listening music and some traditional Chinese music/singing, still
going at 1402+.

With the A18 schedule, have not heard CNR5 here at all, plus today's
format would not be them; Fu Hsing BS (Taiwan) is sometimes here,
but not past scheduled 1300* and not in USB + carrier. So who?

My audio of three minutes of monologue and one minute of music at
http://goo.gl/DWTtYz . Needs more monitoring.
