Ron Howard Aug 22, 2018 22:03 UTC No.3420 Happiness is hearing semi-decent 4KZ reception!
AUSTRALIA. 5055, 4KZ, 1005+, Aug 22, with cut off at 1155:54*. Yet another
day of better than the usual reception; at times semi-readable; nice SA - "now
operates on shortwave on 5-0-5-5 kilohertz in the 60 meter shortwave band,
. . . frequency once again 5-0-5-5 kilohertz"; 1100 national news items - review
of the conviction of Kathleen Megan Folbigg for killing her four children - a three
year old boy and his one year old brother survived for two days in wreckage of a
car crash that killed their mother, the older boy was found wandering along a road,
officers found the wreckage in a ravine - etc.; pop songs played today - Petula
Clark with "Downtown," Ray Charles with "Georgia On My Mind," Sheena Easton
with "For Your Eyes Only," Billy Joel with "Uptown Girl," etc.; would have been
decent reception without the usual QRN (static).

rock and roll band Rose Tattoo, with "Angry" Anderson - "Born To Be Wild," etc.;
frequent theme music ("Waltzing Matilda"), at 1214, 1219, 1228, 1240; weak with
QRN (static); some news and ads; no QRM from AIR Gangtok.
5055, Radio 4KZ, 0913, Aug 27. Usual pop songs; Tennessee Ernie Ford -
"16 Tons," 5th Dimension - "Last Night, I Didn't Get To Sleep At All," Donovan -
"Catch the Wind," White Plains - "My Baby Loves Lovin'," Olivia Newton-John
and Andy Gibb - "Suddenly," Andy Gibb & Bee Gees - "An Everlasting Love,"
etc.; 1000, with news item about assault on paramedics as the ambulance
officers were treating an unconscious patient and sports item about the Belgian
Grand Prix, along with marine conditions. Recently doing well and would call
this just about semi-readable now. My audio at http://goo.gl/3MmxR4 .

songs; suddenly cut off; their closing time varies a lot. Very listenable! My
audio at http://goo.gl/DqhG5A .
SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC. For a long time I have been checking
SIBC before 1200 UT and always found their carrier at a decent level, but
no modulation (no trace of any audio). Aug 26 for the first time in a very
long time, actually did have audio above threshold level. Wow! Heard with
Sunday religious programs 1114+, with reception slowly improving till 1148,
when audio dropped down a lot. Still some audio, but not nearly as good as
heard earlier. So seems they must have done some work on their transmitter?
Today noted with 1201*. Aug 27, again with audio as early as 0951, so really
doing better now.

BHUTAN. 6035, BBS. It will be recalled that last Sunday (Aug 26), this
was heard with a greatly extended broadcast (1340+), so was checking
again on Sept 2 (Sun.). 1139-1200: in English and playing pop songs in
English; 1200-1210*: usual announcer (vernacular) and brief breaks for
indigenous instrumental music at 1200, 1202 and 1209; suddenly off,
leaving China (FM99 relay via Yunnan) in the clear; before 1210 both
mixing together. My local sunrise was at 1339 UT, with Thimphu sunset
at 1221 UT.
BOUGAINVILLE[non-log]. 3325, NBC Bougainville (Maus Blong Sankamap),
clearly off the air on Sept 2, from 0928+; instead note INDONESIA (VOI)
reception.
CHINA. 4940, Voice of Strait, per their new schedule
(http://www.vos.com.cn/public/2011-08/05/cms29450article.shtml), the
program in English ("Focus on China" - FOC) is indeed now on the air
Saturday and Sunday (formerly only on Sat.). Observed Sept 2 (Sun.),
at 0944, with an audio feed from a documentary; mostly unreadable;
0952 closing FOC announcement; music till 0955, when switched to
Chinese; FOC not // 4900, but 0955-1000 was //, which is scheduled
for Strait Fishery Meteorology (Channel fishery weather) (please see
http://radio.chobi.net/DX/DXNEWS/?res:32#58 , "Now On The Radio,"
full schedule for both 4900 and 4940); this Sunday didn't sound like a
weather report, as they were playing some music; after 1000 no longer
//. There is a possible new development, as 4940 was not heard when
checking about 0920, so perhaps a new sign on time? Needs more
monitoring.
6035, FM99 relay via Yunnan, on Sept 2, at 1101, with the usual singing
station jingle; contemporary FM format playing some songs in English
(singers with Elton John's song "Your Song," etc.); 1138-1210 noted
mixing with Bhutan (BBS); 1201 again with the same singing station
song.
INDONESIA. 3325, Voice of Indonesia, 1259, Sept 2. Closing
announcement for the segment in Japanese; 1300 into English; "From
Jakarta, R R I World Service, Voice of Indonesia, English Service . . .
You can listen to our broadcast via shortwave on 9 5 2 5 kilohertz";
today's program schedule; news (Indonesian President and Australian
Prime Minister have reached an agreement on Indonesia-Australia
comprehensive economic partnership, etc.); commentary; congratulation
statement regarding the closing today of the Asian Games; 1318:
"Today in History," item about this date in 1945 (at the close of WWII),
Ho Chi Minh declared the independence for Vietnam, etc.; later an
item about the Voice of Vietnam celebrating their 73rd anniversary of
broadcasting and of the cooperation between RRI and VOV (a search
online produced an actual agreement -
http://pusdatin.rri.co.id/file/docs/1/1497405956Voice%20of%20Vietnam.pdf);
segment "Highlights of the week." This was also heard today by Mick
Delmage, in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada.
MALAYSIA[non-Sarawak]. 9835, Sarawak FM, via Kajang (on the west
coast of the Malaysia peninsular), 1046, Sept 2. Islamic call-to-prayer
broadcast to listeners in Sarawak, for the Maghrib prayer (soon after
sunset, which at Kuching [Sarawak] was at 1042); fair.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut).
1006+, Sept 2. Another Sunday with their usual format; long segment of
preaching in Pidgin and also religious songs.
In light of the item in WOR iog, about the possible reactivation of NBC
Western, I therefor checked on Sept 2, at 1006, all of the 90 meter band,
as well as 3905, with the result that NBC Madang today was the only
active PNG station. The often heard NBC Bougainville (3325) was silent
today. My last reception of NBC Western, was on 3305 kHz., back in
March, 2012 and heard with a positive SA for "N B C Western."
NBC Western is named for the "Western Province" in southwestern PNG.
Have to wonder what ever happened to the Radio Fly SW transmitters
(3915 & 5960 kHz.), at Kiunga, in the North Fly district, that were owned
and operated by the Ok Tedi Mining Ltd.? It was in Aug 2012, that I last
heard Radio Fly on 3915. They have been silent for many years now.
Would think NBC would look into the possibility of buying the transmitters
if they were still operational? Roseanne (“Rosie”) Kulupi (former Radio Fly
radio technician and announcer) left the station many years ago and I have
lost tract of what the current situation is with the Radio Fly transmitters. Nice
picture of Rosie up on Mt. Robinson, with some of the communications techs.
In the background are some of Ok Tedi's facilities to process the mine's gold
and copper - https://app.box.com/s/uhm382tbyzy84fhvss7q .
Radio Fly reception was often enjoyed here on the west coast, so must
have had very good reception throughout the Western Province. My 2012

Re: PBS Yunnan on 6035 kHz. with double audio feed -
Ron Howard Sep 06, 2018 14:21 UTC No.3451 Sept 6, on 6035 kHz., 1200-1308+ UTC, had positive reception of
FM99 relay per singing "Radio" jingle that is regularly heard one
minute after the hour (1201 & 1301) and followed shortly by the
station slogan in English, which sounds to me like "traveling with
the sound of Shangri-la." BUT today heard with two different
audio feeds, both mixing very badly together; by 1300 feel
confident that the UNID audio sounded like Chinese, so strongly
suspect Yunnan with this double audio feed (each different and
one being FM99). I often monitor 6035, and today this was a first
for me. From 1200+, BBS (Bhutan), when they run past that time,
always has a completely different format than I heard today.
Interesting development.

*0941, so a new 4940 sign on time.
KOREA SOUTH. first day back to alternate frequency 6045, Voice of Freedom,
ex: 5920; Sept 6; Closing at 0805* (a few seconds before 06) with the very nice
song "aleumdaun nala" (Beautiful Country); carrier remained on till *0858, with
music "Frontier"; then singing station jingle; ToH time pips; fair, with no N. Korea
jamming here yet, so for the next few days this can be enjoyed without jamming.
My edited audio of one minute of the closing song, spliced together with the start
of next segment, at http://goo.gl/cs2ext .
TAIWAN. 9410-USB+carrier, Fu Hsing BS, off the air Sept 4, at 1223 check; however
Sept 3, heard 1209-1301*; in Chinese; various songs in Chinese, as well as from
"The Sound Of Music," the children reprise - "My favorite things"; heavy QRN (static).
As usual I find this is on much less than daily! My audio of closing, with "My Favorite
Things," at http://goo.gl/TNNDhA . Taiwan's other frequency (9774) remains with long
standing silence.

AUSTRALIA. Radio 4KZ, on Sept 7, noted 1154:31* cut off; conditions today
not as good recently heard.
CHINA. 6035, FM99 (Voice of Shangri-la) relay via PBS Yunnan, on Sept 7,
at 1201, heard today with the normal single audio feed, unlike yesterday's
anomaly of double audio feed. Singing "Radio" jingle that is regularly heard
one minute after the top-of-the-hour, followed by the station's slogan in English,
which seems like "traveling with the sound of Shangri-la," audio of which is
posted at http://goo.gl/pt8MuP .
7210, PBS Yunnan, Sept 7, started at *1035, with the usual musical loop IS,
till 1100; mixing with VOV1 (Vietnam); both decent signals. Yunnan starting
times here vary.
KOREA SOUTH. 6045, Voice of Freedom, Sept 7. Second day here, so no

reception.

** SIKKIM. 4835, AIR Gangtok (tentative), at 1227, on Sept 7. Very prominent hum,

sports; "Today in History"; "Highlights of the week"; recently with somewhat
better reception than normally heard. On Sept 10, noted VOI with stronger
reception than NBC Bougainville, at 1143.

but nothing heard. Seems erratic?
KOREA SOUTH. 6045, Voice of Freedom, through Sept 10, this frequency

Re: Malaysia Day - September 16 (Sunday) -
Ron Howard Sep 13, 2018 05:01 UTC No.3461 Here is an early reminder that this Sunday (Sept 16), will be Malaysia
Day, an important date in Malaysian history. In the past was primarily
observed in Sarawak and Sabah, but currently pushing for a wider
celebration - http://goo.gl/ZPssVh . Every year RTM carries the
Prime Minister's address to the nation via 9835 (Sarawak FM) and
11665 (Wai FM), as these two stations are currently the only active
SW stations - please note my former log/audio below. YouTube has
a scenic 2018 Malaysia Day video at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJpQlr-Fb84 .
Although rather unlikely, I will be checking for any possible special
reactivations on SW, that might be covering the celebrations.
Checking former frequencies: 5965 (Radio Klasik, formerly Klasik

Ron Howard Sep 13, 2018 13:27 UTC No.3462 Thanks to Sarath Weerakoon (UADX) for the following item about Nepal reactivation
on SW, on 5005 kHz. Wonderful news!
Ron
- - - from WRTH Facebook (Sept 13):
Victor Goonetilleke‎ to UNION OF ASIAN DXERS
"BREAKING NEWS
Radio Nepal is back on short-wave after six years by adding 5005 kHz to augment
its national transmission grid broadcasting on MW and FM. According to a station
official, Radio Nepal resumed short wave broadcasts from 02.00 ・5.00 p m Nepali
time using a 10 kw transmitter at Khumaltar, Lalitpur in Kathmandu . The same
source said the station is applying very low power. By all accounts, 5005 kHz is a
difficult Dx catch for listeners outside of Nepal. Nepal is 5 hours and 45 minutes
ahead of UTC. [ Sarath Weerakoon, 11 Sep 2018 ]
Picking up on this both Sarath and I (GVG) started looking for it and here in Sri
Lanka on my Perseus SDR there is a faint line and further checking with the
IBB/VOA Run Perseus SDR in Delhi, there is even a stronger line which left
at 1120 UTC more or less confirming. Even though the station is running its
old 10kW power cant be more than a 1 kw or so.
But the greater news is that Nepal is now available on Short Wave for DXers
and it took UADX to tell the DX community. Sarath thanks again
for your Investigative DX Journalism. This is what UADX is all about."

Here in California [Sept 13], tuned in at 1050, to hear a positive carrier on
5005 kHz., went off about 1108 or 1109. Questionable if I will be able to get

reception will be better?

definite carrier here; signal strength slowly improving, but never any audio. Not heard
yesterday 1100+. Still testing?

Ron Howard Sep 26, 2018 13:01 UTC No.3494 CHINA[non-log]. Sept 26 - PBS Yunnan off the air for third consecutive day.
7210 kHz., 1044+ UT, again only hearing VOV1 (Vietnam) in the clear; with
no PBS Yunnan present.
6035 kHz., Bhutan (BBS), with only QRM from N. Korea jamming of Voice of Freedom
on 6045 kHz.; from 1103 UT till suddenly cut off at 1144*; yesterdays observation
"announcers in English," I now believe to be incorrect; by 1140 today, am fairly sure
was in vernacular, not English, as couldn't make out any English words. A change
in their schedule? In the past 1100-1200 UT was always in English and also playing
some pop songs, whereas today was just a non-stop long winded discussion in
vernacular; reception today much better than yesterday; FM99 relay via PBS Yunnan
definitely silent again today. Needs more monitoring, especially now with Yunnan off
the air.

AUSTRALIA. 5055, Radio 4KZ, on Oct 7, noted cut off at 1151:57*; lasted
checked Oct 3, with 1152:18*.
BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, 1053 till cut off at 1141*, Oct 7. Thanks very much to
Rob Shepherd (Australia), for the alert to BBS's change of schedule for the
segment in English; today confirmed English 1053-1100 (now must be in
English 1000-1100, whereas formerly was 1100-1200); mostly playing pop
songs (Lionel Richie - "Say You Say Me" and Berlin - "Take My Breath Away");
the change, which may just be temporary, is probably due to Bhutan's upcoming
elections and BBS's special pre-election coverage of the various debates; taking
the place of the former English from 1100+; today 1100-1141* was a debate in
vernacular between two candidates, along with a moderator (only the three voices
heard the whole time); today was one of their best receptions so far; PBS Yunnan
relay of FM99 (China) continues silent here.
BOUGAINVILLE[non-log]. 3325, NBC Bougainville (Maus Blong Sankamap),
Oct 7, heard no signal 1003+; clearly off the air today.
CHINA. 4940, Voice of Strait, 0940-0955, Oct 6 (Saturday), with the weekend
"Focus on China" program; as usual, with audio feed from some CCTV
documentary, with native speaker of English; less than semi-readable.
INDONESIA. 3325, Voice of Indonesia, via RRI Palangkaraya, 1257, Oct 7
(Sunday). Taken by surprise to catch the early intro to the English segment;
they have finally updated their announced frequency; now "3 3 2 5"; "From
Jakarta, R R I World Service, Voice of Indonesia, English Service, . . . You
can listen to us on shortwave, on frequency of 3 3 2 5," so no longer giving
"9 5 2 5 kilohertz"; news; 1312 "Today In History" (Oct 7, 2001, USA invaded
Afghanistan to fight al-Qaeda, etc.); weekend segment "Highlights of the Week";
"News in Brief"; "Indonesia Wonders"; at times semi-readable.
Oct 6, on 3325, I found no signal from VOI nor NBC Bougainville, from 1014 to
1206; Glenn made an interesting later observation:
"Oct 6 at 1233, I try again and like yesterday hear no signal, but recheck at 1301
now there is S7-S8 of dead air again! Is Palangkaraya turning on the transmitter
in vain hope that there will be something from Jakarta to modulate it, like the
scheduled 1300 English, ex-9526v?" (Glenn Hauser, OK)
Yes, it's not uncommon now to hear a decent level carrier (dead air) on 3325,
after 1200, with no audio at all, that must be the VOI transmitter. Glenn must
be right, seems Palangkaraya routinely turns on their local transmitter without
checking as to whether there is actually any audio feed from Jakarta.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut), 1105, Oct 7
(Sunday). Usual religious programs of music and preaching; well above normal
reception; cut off at 1213*; as it was the weekend, no news coverage at ToH.
Oct 6 (Saturday), at 1015+ country & western songs; mostly sounded like
impassioned religious preaching and religious music; good number of SAs,
including one for "NBC Madang, Maus Blong Garamut"; noted cut off at 1206*;
well above the norm; as it was the weekend, no news at ToH.
TAIWAN[non-log]. 6280.15 and 7210, Sound of Hope, 1230, Oct 7. First day
that both frequencies clearly are without SOH; with 7210, now no longer being
a mess, as VOV1 (Vietnam) today had sole possession (PBS Yunnan continues
to be off the air here).
USA. 7505v, WRNO, on Oct 7, from 1004+, with no signal at all.
On Oct 6, surprisingly in English during checks at 0835, 0914, 1108 & 1137;
at 1144 finally in Chinese; recently well above the norm.

Ron Howard Oct 09, 2018 20:58 UTC No.3516 BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, 1124-1150*, Oct 9. Change of schedule today.
No pre-election public debate broadcast today, even though one was
scheduled to take place (http://www.bbs.bt/na2018/file/NA%20Debate%202018.pdf);
instead was mostly non-stop pop songs in English and announcers very
briefly in what seemed to be English.

public debates at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53dWwnCd6Qk . Yet
another day without PBS Yunnan relay of FM99 (China) here.
BOUGAINVILLE/PNG. Oct 9, noted 3325, NBC Bougainville (Maus Blong

from the National Dept. of Health (PNG), World Health Organization and NBC,
that from Oct 1 to 14, all children under 15 must get vaccinated against polio;
this important PSA is frequently broadcast; today also heard the very same
polio PSA in English via NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut), on 3260, at

Pradip Kundu (India) - "Improved signal on 4760 kHz. indicates xmtr is
being used with full power," which conforms to my observation with today's
signal stronger than normally heard; audio above threshold level. Nice! My
local sunrise was at 1410 UT.
BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, 1118-1128*, Oct 10. No pre-election debate scheduled
today; EZL pop song; mostly announcer, but unable to confirm the language;
rather an early cut off time for them. Again no PBS Yunnan relay of FM99
(China). Will Yunnan ever return to SW again?
INDONESIA. 3325, Voice of Indonesia, via RRI Palangkaraya, at 1131, on
Oct 10. In Chinese, without any QRM, as NBC Bougainville was not here
today; at 1259 closing announcement for Japanese segment; 1300, into
English, with news; "Today's Commentary," about an election; 1319, "Today
in History," during which went off the air for several seconds and then came
back again for some seconds, only to go off again and didn't come back
(1323*); so today's problem was at Palangkaraya, with a good audio feed
from Jakarta.
NEPAL. 5005, Radio Nepal (presumed), 1055-1116*, Oct 10. Since reactivation,

strength.
SIKKIM. 4835, AIR Gangtok, 1347-1402, Oct 10. Clearly no Ozy Radio heard
here, conforming to info in ADXN-618 that Craig is currently off the air; AIR
audio hovering at threshold level, but slowly improving; subcontinent music/
singing. With Ozy off the air, now is an good time to try for Gangtok, which is
normally buried under the Australian. My local sunrise was at 1410 UT.
TAIWAN. 9410-USB+carrier, Fu Hsing BS, 1203, Oct 10. This was a post-BBC
sign off reception; not surprised to find this erratic station on the air today, as
it's National Day of the Republic of China (Double Ten) national holiday; in
Chinese with songs; problem with a different weaker secondary, over modulated,
audio underneath. Taiwan's other frequency (9774) remains silent.

Ron Howard Oct 13, 2018 01:49 UTC No.3521 BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, 1100 till cut off in mid-sentence at 1129*, Oct 12. Back
to the normal schedule; in English (unreadable) and pop songs; still with rather
an earlier than normal closing time; PBS Yunnan relay of FM99 (China) still
absent here, greatly helping BBS reception, which is now regularly heard.
LAOS. 6130, Lao National Radio (tentative), 0952-1000, Oct 12. The language
heard, from what I could make of it, certainly sounded right to be LNR; YL & OM
chatting (interview?) (via phone?); after 1000, always very much bothered by
adjacent QRM, but pre-1000 was in the clear. My audio at http://goo.gl/GFgwYZ .
MALAYSIA[non-Sarawak]. 11665, "Wai FM" and "Wai FM Limbang," via Kajang,
1311, Oct 11 (Thursday). In vernacular playing pop songs; several singing "Wai
FM" SAs; 1315-1400, the segment SAing as "Wai FM Limbang" (there is also a
Monday edition of this at the same time); pop songs and segment with a long
dialogue in vernacular; almost fair. So for the vast majority of the time this is
"Wai FM" and not "Wai FM Limbang."
Sorry, I should have followed up earlier regarding my item about Sept 16 being
"Malaysia Day." This was the first year that I can recall that RTM didn't broadcast,
via SW, the Prime Minister's address to the nation 1300+. Disappointed!
The RTM SW service has been in a steady decline for many years now. Was not
that long ago I could enjoy Radio Klasik (5965),Asik FM & Suara Islam/Voice of
Islam (6050), Traxx FM (7295) or Voice of Malaysia (6174.4, 6175.0 and 15295),
but they are all gone now. So they have put their emphasis now on their online
presences, as evidenced by the RTM audio streaming at
https://myklik.rtm.gov.my/radio/Wai_FM?r=regional .
USA. 7505v, WRNO, Oct 12, checking at 1005, 1140, 1205 & 1225, only to hear
English (no Chinese heard today!); fair.

Ron Howard Oct 17, 2018 22:09 UTC No.3524 Some interesting reception this morning! Ron
AUSTRALIA. Radio 4KZ, 0914, Oct 17. Fairly early reception here with
Dionne Warwick - "Walk On By" (Ron Howard, Asilomar State Beach, CA)
BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, 1101, Oct 17. In English, starting with what sounded
like the news (unreadable); followed at 1112 with pop songs, at a level easy
to ID (Tom Petty - "Free Fallin" and Michael Jackson - "Human Nature");
suddenly off at 1133*.
Bryan Clark (New Zealand) had very readable reception from his location
yesterday (Oct 16), till he also heard them cut off at 1133*; China (FM99
relay via Yunnan) still silent. I have been impressed recently by the daily
BBS signal, whereas in the past was not all that easy to hear. Now they
are very nice! (Ron Howard, Asilomar State Beach, CA)
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville (Maus Blong Sankamap), 1023,
Oct 17. Usual format; Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers with "Islands In The
Stream," etc. (Ron Howard, Asilomar State Beach, CA)
CHINA. Voice of Strait, 4940, Voice of Strait, Oct 17, tuned in at 0947, to find
only a carrier at a decent level, but no audio. During my recent monitoring here,
always heard the sudden start of the transmitter with audio, about *0940, with
programming already in progress and then at 0955 went to being // with 4900
(which also started about *0940 with different programming also in progress),
with the Strait Fishery Meteorology (Channel fishery weather). Today a
completely different format and timing on 4940!
At 0953, had 4940 with their IS; believe in all my years of listening to VOS, this
is probably the first time I have heard it; at 0955 ID in Chinese followed by
Western classical orchestra music till ToH time pips.
4900, also noted at 0947 with just a carrier (no audio at all), till they started
different programming (not IS) about 0953. So today 4940 had a late start with
actual IS/SA and at 0955 not // to 4900. A one day anomaly or something new?
Will be interesting to hear what happens here in the future. My audio at
http://goo.gl/3pKSNb (Ron Howard, Asilomar State Beach, CA)
MONGOLIA. 4895, Mongolian Radio, 0835+, on Oct 17. Heard definite carrier
(never any audio) thru last check of 1036, but gone by 1044. Hiroyuki Komatsubara
reported much better details today, via his "Now On The Radio" website:
-0828- 4895kHz UNID carrier, no modulation ??, (4830kHz No signal) 7260kHz

-1043- 164kHz // 209kHz // 227kHz MONGOLIA Radio 1
4895kHz No signal (MONGOLIA), off the air (s/off ?) around -1044-
Similar format on Oct 15, as I heard a carrier (unable to detect any audio) 0904+,
on 4895; still on at 1044, but gone by 1058. So would seem 4895 has its own
schedule, different from 7260 and probably a relay of Radio 1 and not // 7260,
which is Radio 3 (Ron Howard, Asilomar State Beach, CA)
TAIWAN. 6280, Sound of Hope, 1150, Oct 17. From 1150 to 1200, mixing badly
with slightly stronger jamming of CNR1 programming, which ended just after
their ToH time pips, leaving SOH in clear, with SA in Chinese at 1200 (Ron
Howard, Asilomar State Beach, CA)

be in English; everything dealing with the election results, except 1100-1108,
with the news; after the news, two announcers gave list of the vote count of
ballots for the election; certainly one of their stronger days; today the few
musical selections played were not the usual Western pop songs, but instead
were all indigenous music/singing (Ron Howard, Asilomar State Beach, CA)

Re: PBS Yunnan again heard on 6035 kHz., mixing with BBS/Bhutan -
Ron Howard Oct 20, 2018 12:22 UTC No.3534 CHINA. 6035, PBS Yunnan, relay of FM99, 1003-1030 UT, Oct 20. Heard
again here, after being absent since Sept 24; in Chinese and usual FM format;
many pop songs; about 1015 started to note some faint BBS/Bhutan QRM; by
the time I tuned out, BBS was improving and mixing badly with PBS Yunnan;
rechecked at 1057, and surprised to find a completely clear frequency (no
Bhutan, no Yunnan), so a very early closing down time for both stations.
Tomorrow I will need to also check 7210 for a possible PBS Yunnan return
there (should sign on before 1000 UT, with their distinctive easy listening
musical IS loop). Was wonderful to hear BBS in the clear since Sept 24,
but seems that will no longer be the case. This frequency and 7210, needs
more monitoring now.
On the one hand I'm very pleased to have Yunnan back here again, but on
the other hand I will certainly miss the clear BBS/Bhutan reception! After all
these years of conflict on 6035 kHz., why has one of them not moved to a
clear frequency? (Ron Howard, Asilomar State Beach, CA)
Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(17) -
Ron Howard Oct 21, 2018 19:07 UTC No.3535 BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, 1039 till off close to 1122, Oct 21. 1039-1100, pop
songs (nice "Stairway To Heaven" by Led Zeppelin, etc.); 1101-1107,
news in English (unreadable); 1109, back to pop songs (Aretha Franklin -
"Respect," etc.); no PBS Yunnan here during this time period (note later
reception under CHINA). Very nice to find BBS in the clear today, but
have to wonder what the Yunnan schedule will be?
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville (Maus Blong Sankamap), 1129*,
Oct 21. Cut off during the Sunday religious songs; no VOI QRM.
CHINA. 4940, Voice of Strait, 0944-0955, Oct 21 (Sunday). The weekend
only edition of "Focus On China," with the audio feed from a CCTV9
documentary ("Along the Silk Road"); 0955 into Chinese. Seems China has
reorganized some of the former CCTV sites. Now am unable to access the
CCTV9 documentaries that I could just a few weeks ago. Now am directed
to China Global Television Network, or CGTN, which is China's new
international media organization - https://www.cgtn.com/ .
6035, PBS Yunnan, relay of FM99, 1209-1221+, Oct 21. In Chinese; usual
FM format; BBS/Bhutan not on the air at this time today (BBS off about 1122);
Yunnan not on the air here earlier (0955 and 1129+), so don't know just when
Yunnan started. Clearly Yunnan has not established a firm schedule yet.
[non-log] 7210, PBS Yunnan, on Oct 21, checking for their sign on IS at 0955+,
but clearly no Yunnan, just the normal mixing of Sound of Hope (Taiwan), which
was slightly stronger than VOV1 (Vietnam); checked again 1223 and still no
Yunnan, just SOH & VOV1 again mixing.
INDONESIA. 3325, Voice of Indonesia, via RRI Palangkaraya, briefly checking
at 1224 & 1234, on Oct 21. Another day with no Jakarta audio feed, but just the
Palangkaraya carrier.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut), 1130-1208*,
Oct 21. Sunday preaching in Pidgin, with religious songs, except 1206 started
religious show in English, with religious song in English, till suddenly off in mid-
song.
USA. 7505v, WRNO, heard at 1001, on Oct 21. Again with another program of
"A Time To Dream," in English; fair; no audio problems, as Glenn Hauser recently
noted.

Ron Howard Oct 23, 2018 14:19 UTC No.3537 BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, 1053-1117*, Oct 23. Mostly pop songs in English, except 1101-1109,
with news in English, started and ended with the usual theme music; unreadable; suddenly
off; PBS Yunnan off the air during this time period and also not heard at 1206.
KOREA SOUTH. First day back to alternate frequency 5920, Voice of Freedom, ex: 6045,
at 1140, on Oct 23. start of the "Aneun geos-I him-ida" program in Korean ("Knowing is
power"); good reception, with no jamming yet. My audio at http://goo.gl/BdmMVB .
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang (Maus Blong Garamut), 1149-1202, Oct 23.
DJ in Pidgin playing pop songs; 1202-1204* with news in English; cut off in mid-news;
stronger than normal signal.
THAILAND. 5875, R. Thailand, brief checks at 1134 & 1147, Oct 23. Yes, still in English;
good reception; seems a steady schedule now.
U S A. 7505v, WRNO, Oct 23, did in fact hear some of the very distorted audio that Glenn
Hauser has been reporting on; at 1127 in English and audio was fine; 1148 very poor audio
and also again distorted at 1210, in English. So the problem is intermittent.
