Re: Asia - Pacific : DX log (6) - Ron Howard Jul 20, 2016 20:59 UTC No.1459
BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, 1231*, July 20. Normal format; announcer
with brief indigenous music at 1212, 1215 and 1218, with 1219-1230
indigenous music/chanting/singing; off in mid-sentence; weak,

July 19, with BBS closing down at 1234*; reception above the norm.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1155*, July 18. Usual format;
off in mid-song; poor with RRI QRM (Ron Howard, Pacific Grove, CA)

INDONESIA. 7289.93, RRI Nabire, 0922-0957*, July 18. Unusual
reception, due to actually hearing audio here; EZL music; conforms to
Atsunori Ishida's info; Dave Valko on the east coast was also hearing
audio till sign off. Unique reception! (Ron Howard, Pacific Grove, CA)

KOREA NORTH[non]. new 5965 (ex: 5935), Shiokaze/Sea Breeze
via Yamata (Japan), 1301, July 20. Their first day back on this former
frequency; in Korean; no jamming, but former 5935 had N. Korea
jamming of Tibet on that frequency.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang, 1214*, July 18;
suddenly off; poor (Ron Howard, Pacific Grove, CA)

SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC, 1139-1200*, July 20. In Pijin;
chatting on phone; dedications; pop songs in English; 1157 "Evening
devotional" in English; off without an ID; almost fair with QRN (static).

July 19, SIBC off 1200*, after full ID and NA.

TAIWAN. 9725-AM, StarStar Broadcasting Station (XingXing BS),
1211, July 20. Numbers in Chinese; slightly better reception in USB;
fair.

UNIDENTIFIED. 9545, 1237-1301, July 20. First day I have heard this
here; strong signal. In Chinese; a native speaker from PRC listened to
my recording and said probably not from PRC, so perhaps Taiwan?
RTI on new frequency? Played pop songs; end of program at 1257
and gave email address to send in to request songs. Very unfortunate,
as occasionally SIBC (Solomon Islands) is here during this time period,
but they will not do well against this strong station.

4750 UNIDENTIFIED.

A mystery to me! Checked today (July 22) at 1237 and clearly
only CNR1 on 4750 (no hint of RRI nor BB). Recently, including
today, have been hearing an UNID station mixing with CNR1 from
about 1300 to 1305. Yes, only on the air for about five minutes!
Who would be broadcasting here with such a brief transmission?

Appreciate any comments or observations. Domo arigato! Ron

Re: Asia - Pacific : DX log (6) - Ron Howard Jul 22, 2016 22:56 UTC No.1465
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville. July 22 was a
major news day for PNG, so some of their normal programs
where preempted due to coverage of Parliament's vote of
no confidence in Prime Minister O誰eill, which he survived.
1120-1157 with speeches from Parliament; 1159 choral anthem;
1203-1208 "NBC News in Brief"; off at 1230*, after which was
only hearing Pro 1 RRI Palangkaraya.

BTW - 3260, NBC Madang, July 22, had news // 3325, but found
off the air by 1210.

CHINA. 4790, CNR1 program jamming at 1248, July 22. All set
to jam BBC Uzbeck *1300; CNR1 clearly // 6125.

RE: 4750 UNID

Thanks to Mauno Ritola, who provides the following observation,
which explains what I most likely heard. Appreciate his help.

"Today [July 23] I heard both BB and CNR1 from 1245 to 1310.
So maybe BB had some troubles yesterday?"

Ron

Re: Asia - Pacific : DX log (6) - Ron Howard Jul 25, 2016 19:09 UTC No.1467
BANGLADESH. 4750, Bangladesh Betar (Home Service),
*1252-1310*, July 24. Seems they have an erratic, abbreviated
schedule now; underneath a stronger CNR1, which had a lot
of singing, making BB reception difficult; 1305 tentative ID.
Thanks again to Mauno Ritola for his assistance with IDing
this short broadcast.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville. July 25 with a
very good day for PNG propagation; randomly 0904 till
off about 1205*; 0904 NBC news in English, with several
reports from "Port Moresby"; // 3260 (NBC Madang) till
end of news at 0914; pop hit songs ("The First Cut is the
Deepest" by Sheryl Crow, etc.); 0931-1000 in English,
taking about the government and with some speeches;
1003-1014 PNG bird call and NBC news (not // 3260);
1015 DJ in Pidgin with pop songs ("Free Fallin" by Tom
Petty, etc.); 1204 PNG bird call and news; gone by 1205
Very nice listening to PNG today!

CHINA. 6035, PBS Yunnan, 1200, July 24 ended their
regular programming; no ID at ToH, but went to non-stop
selections of classical western orchestra music; often with
one minute dead air between selections; no announcements
of any kind; still with classical music by 1223.

9545, CNR1. See TAIWAN.

KOREA NORTH[and non]. 5935 on July 24, they continue
to be jamming here at 1311, which causes heavy QRM for
Tibet and not for the intended Shiokaze, which was heard in
the clear on 5965, today in Korean with good signal.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang on July 25.
A day of very good PNG propagation; randomly 0904-1219*;
0904-0914 NBC news in English (// 3325 NBC Bougainville);
1003 did not carry the NBC News; 1110 local news in Pidgin;
1119 & 1130 "NBC Madang" IDs; 1120-1130 announcements
in Pidgin; pop Pacific Islands music; 1204-1208 PNG bird
call and news in English (item about "UN envoy," etc.) (news
// 3325); 1208-1219* relay of "NBC National Radio," with DJ
in English playing pop hit songs (Elton John's "Sacrifice," etc.);
caller on the phone asked some political questions (sounded
like a contest?); suddenly off in mid-sentence at 1219; poor,
but at times semi-readable. A uniquely good day for them!

[non-log] 7324.95, Wantok Radio Light. Quick checked at
0903, July 25, to only find a clear frequency; this on a day
with very good PNG propagation; has been off the air for
a while now.

RUSSIA. 7345, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk. July 25, started
at 0900 without any IS or time pips; subsequent random
checking till 1025.

Seems clear, at least to me, that they have reversed their
transmitter assignments; now 7345 has the much stronger
signal, while // 7295 is much weaker and mostly unusable.
There are some days now when R. Sakha is slightly stronger
than CNR1 on 7345, after 1100.

TAIWAN. 9410, Fu Hsing BS (presumed), heard during
a quick check at 0952, with music; poor. No hint of 9774.
Rechecked 9410 at 1026, but no signal by then. So their
transmitter continues to have serious problems.

9545, non-log of RTI. July 25 tuned in at 1051 expecting to
hear CNR1 jamming RTI, but instead only found a strong
open carrier; 1057 start of CNR1 jamming, but listening till
after 1105 heard no RTI, only CNR1. At 1221 also heard
strong CNR1 jamming here and still with no RTI, but at
1222 CNR1 went to an open carrier. Seemed as if maybe
they were checking the frequency for the presents of RTI,
which was not here today. Has RTI already abandoned
9545, due to jamming? Thanks to Dan Sheedy in DXLD
yg for his report of RTI & CNR1 jamming on July 23.

Ron, in San Francisco, California

3260kHz, 3325kHz NBC, good signal today!

Re: Asia - Pacific : DX log (6) - Ron Howard Jul 27, 2016 00:10 UTC No.1469
CHINA[non-log]. 9545, CNR1. See TAIWAN.

RUSSIA. 7345, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk. July 26 was
another day of starting at 0900 without any IS or time pips;
subsequent random checking till 1119.

7345 continues to be several times stronger than // 7295,
which for a while around 1042-1050 was off the air, but by
1104, was back broadcasting again and still much weaker
than 7345.

TAIWAN. 9545, non-log of RTI. My observations yesterday
must have been correct; China was listening and found, just
as I also observed, that RTI was not broadcasting on the 25th.
So on July 26, found this frequency complete free of either RTI
or CNR1, with random checking 1000-1121. So it is fine now for
SIBC (Solomon Islands) to again have extended use of this
frequency, which they sometimes do have long after their
normal 0500*.

Re: Asia - Pacific : DX log (6) - Ron Howard Jul 27, 2016 17:47 UTC No.1470
MYANMAR. 9730, Myanmar Radio, 1054-1131*, July 27
(Wed.). Recently have been checking here on Monday
(during 1030 to 1100) and Wednesday (during 1100 to
sign off), which in the past were the normal times I could
catch the Radio Australia programs in English ("English
for Business"), but they are no longer here. Instead just
normal programs in vernacular. Have they dropped RA
language lessons or simply changed the schedule?

BTW - 5985, Myanmar Radio, at 1133, July 27, with
coverage of a live sporting event (probably the Asian
Football Confederation match between Brunei and
Myanmar being held at this time); must have been a
TV audio feed, as there was very little coverage by
the announcer, who mostly only commented during
exciting happenings during the game.

RUSSIA. 7295 // 7345, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk.
July 27 with anomaly reception; both frequencies doing
very well at 1050, with usual "Radio Sakha" ID and
chimes leading into series of ads; subsequent checking
continued to find them both with about equal signal
strength; this is a first for me, as normally only one or
the other is much stronger.

Received another email from "TV and Radio NVK Sakha"
<nvk-news @ mail.ru>) asking me
more about my shortwave receptions of their station and
indicating they want to interview me. Perhaps they think
I speak Russian, as I have corresponded with them in
that language. Am rather flattered that they would make
this offer to me!

TAIWAN. 9545, non-log of both RTI & CNR1 (CHINA).
July 27, second day of no broadcasters here; 1052-1205.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1155*, July 31;
1218*, Aug 1; normal format and "NBC Bouganinville"
promos in English just before the NBC news.

INDIA. 5050, AIR Aizawl, 1220, Aug 1. Am hearing this
just about daily now; into usual news in English; mixing
with and underneath a stronger Beibu Bay Radio (CHINA).

INDONESIA. 3344.84, RRI Ternate (presumed). Have
often been checking here for possible reactivation, but
until today had heard nothing. Aug 1, found positive open
carrier at 0949; random subsequent monitoring still had
clear open carrier till final check at 1234; never any trace
of any audio. Atsunori Ishida concurred RRI Ternate
active today! First time I have had a definite carrier here
this year. Now if we can just get some audio out of them!

Believe was Ternate, as NBC Northern, the Voice of Oro
(PNG) was last heard closer to 3345 than RRI Ternate.

MYANMAR. 5985 & 9730, Myanmar Radio. RE: My
June 26 posting: "Recently have noted it takes a minute
or less to switch frequencies from 9730 to 5985." Now I
find this is clearly wrong! Have recently been hearing
5985 already on the air minutes BEFORE 9730 goes off
the air, so impossible for both frequencies to use the
same transmitter.

9730, Myanmar Radio, 1005, July 31. Mixing badly with
Sound of Hope (TAIWAN); in vernacular and playing some
EZL music; 1019 cut off and came back between 1041-1046;
1126 started commentary from the women's Asian Football
Confederation match between Australia and Myanmar,
scheduled to start 1130, in Mandalay; suddenly off 1131*.
Starting at 1128, was // 5985.

5985, Myanmar Radio, 1128, July 31. Already on the air while
9730 was about to close down; into live coverage of women's
Asian Football Confederation match between Australia and
Myanmar, played in Mandalay; preempted regular programs.

RUSSIA. 7345, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk, 0944, July 31.
Mixing with V26 (CHINA) in USB, with Chinese numbers
(audio of the two stations - https://goo.gl/yqKl02 ) (audio of
just R. Sakha in LSB, with IS [Jew's harp] and time pips -
https://goo.gl/IAaRp7 ). 7345 continues to be much
stronger than // 7295. Dave Valko listening at the same
time, via Japan remote, noted stronger V26 (USB) than I
did.

TAIWAN. 9410, Fu Hsing BS (presumed), 0946, Aug 1.
Today the transmitter seemed to be working fine, unlike
the problems of the past few months; in Chinese, with
some EZL music; after 1000 was not heard, conforming
to their schedule (0800-1000 and 1100-1300); heard
again after 1100. Are they really back to normal? Time
will tell. Still no trace of a signal on 9774.

Re: Asia - Pacific : DX log (6) - Ron Howard Aug 02, 2016 14:34 UTC No.1487

9410, Fu Hsing BS, totally off the air today (Aug 2) on 9410, during the
times I heard them yesterday.

3344.864 kHz. (thanks to Wolfy for the exact frequency), RRI Ternate,
heard Aug 2, for second consecutive day; 1244 to past 1320; again
a positive open carrier heard, but no audio heard yet.

Re: Asia - Pacific : DX log (6) - Ron Howard Aug 03, 2016 22:25 UTC No.1488
INDIA. 5050, AIR Aizawl, brief check at 1220, Aug 3.
Another day of news in English; mixing with and
underneath a stronger Beibu Bay Radio (CHINA).

INDONESIA. 3325 [non-log], Pro 1 RRI Palangkaraya
off the air Aug 3.

3344.864 kHz. (Wolfy's exact frequency), RRI Ternate on
Aug 3. Third consecutive day of broadcasting, but first day
of audio! At 1210, positive reception of Jakarta news; // RRI
Wamena (4869.85 and with OTH radar), with closing news
song 1223-1225, after which no longer //; Ternate went to
music show. Poor to very poor; noted Atsunori Ishida was
unable to confirm the Jakarta news via Ternate today. This
looks more promising now that we are hearing some audio.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang on Aug 3.
Almost non-stop reception 0924-1208*, plus they went off
the air 1042*, but found on again at 1132 check; mostly in
Tok Pisin/Pidgin; 0932 local news in English (items about
"high school," "police arrived on the scene," "hospital," etc.),
ending at 1000 with phone number and email address and
"same time tomorrow"; as usual Madang did not carry the
1000 NBC news; clear "NBC Madang" ID at 1030; also
English for "News in Brief" after PNG bird call at 1201;
1208 PSA in Pidgin, persons "18 years old" must "register";
suddenly off. A very good day for Madang!

BTW - SIBC (5020) was also unusually good, checking
when NBC Madang was temporarily off the air; 1043+.

there was no NBC Bougainville heard through subsequent
checking till 1200. Unusual for them to be off the air! 6020 only
with the usual Vietnam.

5985, Myanmar Radio, seemed to have live coverage of
the women's Asian Football Confederation match between
Australia and Myanmar, played today (Aug 4) in Mandalay;

BANGLADESH. 4750, Bangladesh Betar - HS, 1251-1309*, Aug 8.
In Bangla; 1252 the usual daily brief spot in English with the weather,
temperatures, etc.; 1300-1305 news in Bangla; suddenly off; they
continue with their very much abbreviated schedule; slightly stronger
than CNR1 on frequency.

Quick check today at 1235, for the Monday (weekly) SAARC news
bulletin in English, but BB clearly off the air. Instead briefly heard BB
1204-1205, mixing with CNR1. Maybe attempting for a more normal
schedule, but failed?

BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, 1211-1238*, Aug 8. Usual brief indigenous
music 1215, 1218 & 1220; indigenous music and singing 1222-1230;
1230 indigenous music into chatting; suddenly off; poor, but at times
fair, depending on amount of adjacent QRM; PBS Yunnan already
off. Decent signal strength; my audio https://goo.gl/ozQG0Z .

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1146-1148*, Aug 8.
In Pidgin; DJ with pop song; suddenly off; poor.

CHINA. 7325.0, CRI, 1400*, Aug 8. Was checking for Wantok
Radio Light on 7324.95 (not heard) and surprised to hear CRI go
all the way to 1400* (ex: 1357*). Needs more monitoring to check
if this is happening daily.

KOREA SOUTH. 6015, KBS Hanminjok Bangsong 1, at 1013, Aug 8.
Usual hour long program of "Pops Freedom"; scheduled 1000-1100;
mostly in Korean, but with English IDs and segment with English
language lesson; hosted by Kwak Young Il; playing pop songs ("Poor
Little Fool" by Ricky Nelson, etc.); series of three very nice IDs; first
by native speaker of English, second in Korean and third in English
by Kwak Young Il - "Now you are listening to KBS, Pops Freedom";
usual segment "Everyday English" language lesson; poor, with the
usual white noise jamming from N. Korea, but was semi-readable.
Website http://goo.gl/NKHkr6 .

TAIWAN. 9410, Fu Hsing BS (presumed). On Aug 8 (Monday), it
finally dawned on me as to a possible pattern here. Aug 1 and July 25,
both Mondays, I had reception here. Is it possible they only broadcast
on Monday? Heard this Monday, 0949-1000*; in Chinese; was expecting
them to come back on at 1100, but they never were heard after 1100; still
no sign of 9774. Needs more monitoring.

VANUATU. 3944.2, R. Vanuatu (presumed). Sunday, Aug 14,
as usual on the weekend, I checked this frequency to see if I can
hear the normal open carrier of RV that they leave on after usually
ending their audio programming about 1015* or so. On the weekend
Japan ("RN2") signs off at 0900*, leaving the frequency clear for RV.

Very surprised today when I tuned in at 1232 and heard definite audio;
YL announcer playing EZL music till 1300, when most likely news till
1311. Later checked at 1342 and had possible religious program and
religious music(?), but too weak to be sure; 1401-1407 seemed to be
news again. The whole time was not strong enough to make out
the language, but assume is RV based upon unique frequency and
clearly I was not hearing Japan. Extremely rare that I hear audio here
during this time period! My local sunrise was at 1325 UT.

Something new is happening with Radio Vanuatu. Seems
like a new schedule is now in place. Aug 15, on 7260, heard
them long after they recently had been ending their normal
programs, with audio stopping at about 1015. Second day
of their new extended schedule.

Today from 1326 to 1329, with C&W type songs; faint, but clear
ID for "Radio Vanuatu" at 1331; from 1335 to past 1400 seemed
like an OM being interviewed by YL, with him speaking at length;
poor, but positive is RV; QRM from China (PBS Xinjiang). Still
needs more monitoring to confirm just what
the new schedule is.

RE: Radio Vanuatu

Thanks to Mauno Ritola for his input via WRTH Facebook:

"Yes, both fqs heard also today [Aug 16] at 1200 via Brisbane
remote rx."

and later:

"... and still going on at 1450, on both fq's. Is there some
bad weather situation?"

http://goo.gl/VbhLXn shows no unusual weather activity for
Vanuatu. The programming I have heard recently seemed to
just be their normal programming (non-cyclone/tropical storm
weather warnings), which is why it seems to me to be an
actual schedule change, but time will tell if it's temporary
or not.

MALAYSIA. 6050, Asyik FM, via Kajang, reactivated Aug 22.
Had been silent for most of 2016; local Kajang sunset at 1119
UTC and my local sunrise was at 1331 UTC.

Heard 1327-1413, in vernacular; many phone conversations;
played pop songs; some adjacent QRM; light QRM from Tibet
(PBS Xizang) on frequency; mostly fair; singing IDs. My audio
at https://goo.gl/Cz4kL6 .

Surely this is back on the air for the upcoming Independence Day
celebrations. "Merdeka Day" (Hari Merdeka [Malaysian for
"Independence Day"]) - August 31, 1957 was the day that the
Federation of Malaya gained its independence from British
colonization; is a national holiday, with celebrations leading up
to September 16 - "Malaysia Day," which commemorates the
establishment of the Malaysian federation on the same date in
1963. It marked the joining together of Malaya, North Borneo,
Sarawak, and Singapore to form Malaysia.

9835, Sarawak FM, via Kajang. Quick check at 1324, Aug 22, to
catch ID and pop songs; fair.

11665, Limbang FM, via Wai FM, from Kajang. It's Monday (Aug 22),
so time for another Limbang FM relay; 1315 started with mention of
both "Limbang FM" and "Wai FM"; into the "Limbang FM" jingle; DJ
in vernacular with pop songs; good reception. My audio at

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1130-1155*, Aug 24.
Fairly good day here, with only light RRI QRM; promo/montage
for "NBC Bougainville"; pop Pacific Islands music with DJ in
Tok Pisin/Pidgin; many time checks; suddenly off. My audio at
goo.gl/Sf8m7G .

SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC, 1236-1327*, Aug 24. Extended
long past their normal 1200*; they must have seen my recent comment:
"Wish they had stayed on longer!" when on Aug 19 they went off at
1210*. Today non-stop EZL songs; promo (once again time for St.
Joseph's Catholic Secondary School at Tenaru to stage their annual
grand bazaar this coming Saturday, at the Tenaru school grounds;
games for kids; selling raffle tickets; chances to win great prizes; also
with live entertainment), ad ("Mobile One") and health PSA, all in
English.

Not even one ID the whole time, so unable to confirm if SIBC program
or Wantok FM relay, but in the past Wantok FM always gave numerous
IDs, unlike today's total lack of any IDs. My audio at goo.gl/Al1w6a .

INDONESIA. 4869.88, Pro 1 RRI Wamena, 1207-1307, Aug 25
(Thursday). Jakarta news relay // 3325, Pro 1 RRI Palangkaraya
and // 3344.86, RRI Ternate; ending at 1227 with patriotic song;
after which no longer //; 1229 "Programa Satu RRI Wamena" ID.

1235-1303, with the Thursday only edition of Kang Guru Indonesia
("KGI") in mostly English, but a few short segments in Bahasa
Indonesia; much stronger than normal reception; QRN (static);
still tough to make out a lot of what was said; many KGI IDs;
one listener told of collecting "KGI Magzines" since 2008;
segment "Good neighbors make good friends," discussing
differences between Australia and Indonesia as to whether
to walk or ride.

Recently it has become clear that a major change was happening
at KGI. Their extensive website was recently drastically downsized.
Seemed like the Indonesia Australia Language Foundation (IALF)
was taking over. At the KGI website, I see that KGI has now
completely stopped producing any new radio programs.
The final show was produced back in June. The program heard
today was an earlier production. We can only hope that RRI stations
will continue to recycle these older programs well into the future.

Have listened to these programs going back to when it was Kang
Guru Radio English ("KGRE") and even before that with "Kang Guru II
Radio English," in 1976, when Greg Clough was the original "Kaptain
Kang Guru." Am sad that they will no longer have any new shows.
Has been very entertaining listening to them over these past 40 years!

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1145*, Aug 25.
Suddenly off during pop song; yet another day of above
average reception.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang, 1147-1204*,
Aug 25. Heard well above the norm; DJ with "late night radio"
dedications show in Tok Pisin/Pidgin playing pop Pacific Islands
songs and some in English; several "NBC Madang" IDs; 1201
PNG bird call and "News in Brief" (logging story, with sound
bite of the Minister of Forests speaking in Parliament today;
item about a group working to end violence against women;
item about the upcoming sports games being held in Kimbe
this November); "That is the end of the news in brief" and
immediately off the air. My audio at goo.gl/wgDjMM .

Looks as if the Kimbe (West New Britain Province) sports games
being held from November 24 through December 10, will be an
important event, so we can perhaps expect major coverage via
the NBC stations. Website http://www.pnggames.org/ .

NBC Bougainville:

Aug 26 is a national public holiday in PNG, so special NBC
happenings for "Repentance Day," a religious holiday. Heard
3325 (NBC Bougainville) from 1151 to about 1239*, with a
double anomaly; first there was no "News in Brief" at 1201
(extremely rare!) and secondly running well past their usual
recent sign off time. https://anydayguide.com/calendar/2383

Highlights:

1151-1159: Interview in Tok Pisin/Pidgin.

1200: "11 o'clock"; ID; montage/promo for "NBC Bougainville";
another ID with frequencies; music.

1206-1239: Religious program in Tok Pisin/Pidgin; asked five
questions regarding the Bible (given in English, "#2 - In the
Bible, who is the oldest man?"); questions frequently repeated;
listeners told to write down the five answers and to call in to a
number that was given; several live on air calls from listeners
answering the questions; played religious music. Seemed to
go off at 1239*, as after that I seemed to just be hearing Pro 1
RRI Palangkaraya.

BTW - NBC Madang (3260) was off the air today at 1136 and
subsequent checking. Hiroyuki Komatsubara (Japan) agrees,
as he found no signal at 1030, on 3260, but he was hearing
NBC Madang at 0945, with a good signal, so they went off very
early today.

Re: Asia - Pacific : DX log (6) - Ron Howard Aug 26, 2016 23:32 UTC No.1532
BANGLADESH. 4750, Bangladesh Betar - HS, *1254-1307*,
Aug 26. Usual format; CNR1 QRM on frequency.

CHINA. 5050, Guangxi Beibu Bay Radio, 1400, Aug 26. Time
pips; in English with "Beijing time is now 10 PM," "Guangxi Beibu
Bay Radio" and "BBR Evening News"; into news in Vietnamese;
mixing badly with AIR Aizawl on frequency.

MALAYSIA. 6050, Asyik FM, via Kajang, on Aug 26 heard
open carrier, which would be consistent with the signal strength
for Asyik FM; at 1146 no audio at all; by 1352 heard very faint
audio; yes, was Asyik FM for sure, but signal was almost all
strong open carrier, very weak modulation.

SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, Wantok FM relay via SIBC, 1312-
1330*, Aug 26. Unlike my Aug 24 reception here with no IDs, today
no question as to who was providing the programming; frequent IDs
("This is Wantok FM 96.3. Good times, great music" and "The hottest
sounds with the hottest DJs, 96.3"; mostly pop songs ("Saturday Night"
by the Bay City Rollers, Dierks Bentley with "Drunk On A Plane," etc.).
I love it when they run past their usual 1200* sign off! My local sunrise
was at 1334 UT.

9545, SIBC. RE: Glenn's comment in DXLD yg: "Someone said the
normal schedule is until 0800 before switching to 5020, but I think
not, as usually no signal audible after 0500. No doubt they are
flexible as to QSY time (Glenn Hauser, OK)."

Glenn is correct, most times that I have checked, found similar to this:
Aug 22, heard 9545 doing better than usual 0400-0501*, mostly in Pijin
with pop songs; many ads in English for hardware supplies and general
contractor; 0500 start of news in English with sound bite from the Olympics;
suddenly off. Believe more often than not, sign off is about 0500.

Re: Asia - Pacific : DX log (6) - Ron Howard Aug 28, 2016 01:41 UTC No.1537
SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020. Seems logical to conclude from
my recent observations that there are in fact two distinct formats
being used here during the extended scheduling that goes beyond
the usual 1200* sign off.

Today (Aug 27) and Aug 24, heard programming with no IDs at
all, none whatsoever, but have to believe was actually SIBC
programming and not a Wantok FM 96.3 relay. Today 1207-1245*,
with pop songs in English (Whitney Houston with "I Wanna Dance
With Somebody," etc.); series of ads ("Silentworld for shipping of
cargo, with dedicated shipping bay. Ship with the professionals
today, for transportation of passengers and cargo. All Silentworld
vessels are certified to stringent international standards" and their
website has a nice map at goo.gl/44nPtu showing their deliver
routes to the various islands that make up the Solomon Islands;
also ad for "Mobile One"; etc); suddenly off.

Whereas yesterday (Aug 26) heard a very different format 1312-1330*;
numerous IDs, usually between every (or every other) pop song played;
often with these IDs: "This is Wantok FM 96.3. Good times, great music"
and "The hottest sounds with the hottest DJs, 96.3", so no question this
format is in fact a Wantok FM relay; very different from the SIBC format.

Anyone else conclude the same? Appreciate any additional
comments, observations or corrections. Thanks.

Wonderful that they have recently been carrying more of these two types
of formats for their extended programming past 1200.

VANUATU. 3944.2, R. Vanuatu (presumed), 1250 on Aug 27 (Saturday),
noted decent level open carrier with audio just hovering at the threshold
level, with announcer and music; some ham QRM; so they are continuing
with their recently expanded schedule; by 1338 they had switched to
delayed sports coverage (assume delayed, as it would be 12:38 AM
their local time); strong background noise from the roar of the fans at
the game (very noticeable and not heard earlier), with announcer giving
coverage; poor; some slight improvement around my local sunrise at
1335 UT. ID'ing it solely on the basis of the unique frequency; never
strong enough to actually hear an ID.

This weekend reception only possible with the weekend schedule of
Japan ("RN2") signing off on 3945, at 0900*.

Re: Asia - Pacific : DX log (6) - Ron Howard Aug 29, 2016 00:05 UTC No.1540
CHINA. 9745, Firedragon, 1949, Aug 28. Strong signal of FD
non-stop musical jamming against RFA; unable to tell if CNR1
also used.

INDIA. 4970, AIR Shillong, 1342, Aug 28. In English with
interview with an author; semi-readable.

5050, AIR Aizawl, 1336, Aug 28. Mixing with Guangxi Beibu Bay
Radio (China); both about equal strength; AIR with comedy and
BBR with singing.

INDONESIA. 9525.9, VOI, 1355, Aug 28. Recently doing fairly well;
English segment; gave contact info for VOI.

MALAYSIA. 9835, Sarawak FM, 1900-1940, Aug 28. In vernacular;
playing pop songs; // 11665, which was a relay of Sarawak FM; both
equal strength. Rare that I listen at this time.

BTW - After the reactivation of Asyik FM on 6050, on Aug 22, have been
checking for other stations returning to SW, but as of Aug 28, both Radio
Klasik (5965) and Traxx FM (7295) both remain silent. Now 7295 has
Radio Sakha (Russia) broadcasting there.

PHILIPPINES. 9910 (fair-good) // 12120 (fair-poor/CODAR QRM) //
15190 (fair), R. Pilipinas, 1732-1804, Aug 28. Decent after sign on, but
all frequencies slowly went downhill by 1800; news in Filipino with many
musical selections; 1804 into "Showbiz News."

RUSSIA. 7345, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk, brief check at 1216,
Aug 28. Traditional music; clearly today, even with CNR1 QRM,
this frequency was much stronger than clear, but unusable // 7295.

Have not been able to to hear the reported spur on 7395.

SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC, 1201-1333*, Aug 28. Yet
another day of extended broadcasting; Sunday format of non-stop
religious (Christian) songs; almost all of them in English; "I'll Fly

CHINA. 4790, CNR1 program jamming at 1245, Aug 29. All
ready to jam the upcoming BBC Uzbeck sign on *1300; CNR1
clearly // 6125.

6185, CHBC (presumed), on Aug. 29 tuned in at 0932 to a decent
level open carrier; audio started suddenly at 0953 with announcers
chatting in Chinese; 0957 pop music; ToH time pips. Not often I
report on this, but in fact is heard just about on a daily basis. For
some reason this is rarely reported by other? I still treasure my
CHBC QSL card ( goo.gl/90wg0F ), from Jonathan Short.

MALAYSIA. 6050, Asyik FM, via Kajang. Aug 29, not a good day
here; nice audio at 1004, but several times later found with only
open carrier and no audio; then at other times with audio back up
to a good level; erratic.

PAKISTAN. 7265, Azad Kashmir Radio (very tentative), 1217-1230,
Aug 29. Would like to think this was AKR that I was hearing; extremely
faint audio that sounded like subcontinent music; unable to make out
the language of announcer; totally covered by strong CNR2 sign on at
*1230. Am encouraged to find any audio here. Needs more monitoring.
Thanks very much to Dave Valko for the reminder to check AKR, as he
heard them via a remote in Qatar.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang, 1139-1206, Aug 29.
A good day here; pop Pacific Islands music; 1200 PNG bird call and
"Good night. NBC News in Brief" ("Police in East New Britain have
arrested and charged a man with murder following the death of ...";
Australia seized 95 kilograms of cocaine aboard a cruise ship in
Sydney harbor; "forecast," showers and thunder showers). Always
nice to find semi-readable reception here.

[non-log] 7324.95, Wantok Radio Light. Checked at 0925, Aug 29.
Continues their long standing silence.

RUSSIA. 7345, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk, on Aug 29, with open
carrier at 0858; audio started 0900 with ID and into the news; did
not have IS nor time pips; today clearly this was the higher powered
transmitter.

SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC, 1208 and subsequent checking
through 1238, Aug 29, heard strong open carrier with no audio at all;
by 1312 was off the air. Are they experimenting with a possible new
schedule here or what?

Malaysia - Aug 30 "National Day Message"

Last year on Aug 30, I listened to a major speech given by the
Malaysian PM Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. Some of my audio
from last year at goo.gl/NB1j1C , with some English, but mostly
in vernacular.

This year he will again give a "National Day Message" at a
gathering at Merdeka Hall, Putra World Trade Centre, in Kuala
Lumpur. This important event will start at 1300 UT on Aug 30.
Last years coverage was via 6050 (Asyik FM) // 9835 (Sarawak FM)
// 11665 (Wai FM), all via Kajang. This years special broadcast
should also be via the same stations.

Full story at goo.gl/mHdS5H .

"He said leaders and public figures would be invited to attend
the event which would start from 9pm. [1300 UT]

Besides being broadcast live on local television as well as radio
be streamed live via the Bernama web, Zulkefli added.

He said the event would start with singing of the national anthem
'Negaraku', video clip display as well as recitation of prayers
by renowned speaker Datuk Kazim Elias....

The National Day Message was among the programmes being drawn
up for this year's National Day celebration..."

Re: Asia - Pacific : DX log (6) - Ron Howard Aug 30, 2016 16:22 UTC No.1546
Aug 30 - Yes, the PM did indeed address the nation of Malaysia.
Tuned in at 1311 to hear the speech already in progress on 9835
(Sarawak FM) // 11665 (Wai FM). Unfortunately 6050 (Asyik FM)
had another day of only strong open carrier (no audio from them,
but very faint audio underneath the carrier from probably Tibet).

Speech mostly in vernacular, with sprinkling of English words
("Global economy . . . global competition . . . Moments of Unity")
Briefly in English, goo.gl/yq41K5 . Speech ended at 1354
and stations then no longer //. News item - goo.gl/OnbGP3 .

Thursday in English; much stronger than Myanmar Radio
also on frequency; usual intro and into "Today's
Newsflash" and "Today's News on North Korea Issues";
surprised at 1356 to find Myanmar was off the air
(what happened?); after 1400 was a clear frequency.

Ex: 5965, heavily jammed by North Korea. Will take them
a while to note the switch in frequency up to 5985.

7325, Shiokaze/Sea Breeze via Yamata *1405, Sept 1. All
in Japanese; clearly the Shiokaze intro, but at 1407 seemed
to switch to relay of "Furusato No Kaze" ("Wind of Hometown"),
produced by the Japanese government; confirmed today by

Re: Asia - Pacific : DX log (6) - Ron Howard Sep 02, 2016 20:10 UTC No.1565
Shiokaze is the station broadcasting from Japan to North Korea
and dealing with the issue of Japanese citizens who have been
believed to be kidnapped by North Korea for the purpose of
teaching language there.

Now there is an interesting story of an American student that was
kidnapped by North Korea back in 2004 for that purpose. Full story
at http://goo.gl/uZL5oW .

"An American student reported missing during a 2004 hiking trip
in China was kidnapped and forced to teach English to North
Korean leader Kim Jong Un, authorities say.

David Sneddon, a Brigham Young student, disappeared at the
age of 24 in Yunnan Province in what Chinese police said was
likely a hiking accident.

But the body of Sneddon ・who spoke fluent Korean ・was
never found and his parents were suspicious....

According to Choi Sung-yong, head of South Korea痴 Abductees・
Family Union, Sneddon has been found living in the North Korean
capital of Pyongyang, where he works as a school teacher. He
reportedly is married and has two children.

North Korea has a long history of kidnapping foreign nationals,
and Sneddon痴 parents believe their son was targeted because
he served on a Mormon mission in South Korea, where his
language skills became known...."

INDIA. new off frequency 4870.57 (thanks to Dave Valko
for exact frequency), AIR (Delhi-Kingsway), 1350 with
subcontinent singing; of course best in USB to get away
from RRI Wamena, which I made out to be on about
4869.88, so the AIR off set is a help to their reception.
Do not recall AIR off frequency before?

RUSSIA. 5900, R. Rossii via ?, *1000, Sept 4. Transmitter
suddenly on, quickly followed by audio; news and ID; audio
was not very good, as there was some type of hum/noise;
not sure if just my local problem or not, so more monitoring
needed.

I confess I was expecting much better reception here, as I
often have very decent reception of Radio Sakha (via Yakutsk),
which is a pleasure to listen to. My R. Rossii audio at
http://goo.gl/ZNU4Cj .

SIKKIM. 4835, AIR Gangtok (presumed), 1345, Sept 4, again
only with open carrier and ABC totally silent.

SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC, 1219-1224*, Sept 4. Normal
Sunday format of religious songs (no IDs) and briefly extended
schedule; heavy RTTY QRM, so unpleasant listening.

VANUATU. 7260, R. Vanuatu, 1127-1210 & 1233-1338, Sept 4.
Another outstanding day here; certainly one of their best receptions;
continuing with their recently extended schedule, which am happy
to say now seems to be their regular schedule; 1132-1201 non-stop
monologue in vernacular; ID "Radio Vanuatu, Port Vila"; into Pacific
Islands songs.

1308 "local news . . Vanuatu" in vernacular; regional news ("Minister
of Foreign Affairs from New Zealand, Murray McCully," about
improvement of Kiribati痴 waste management, water and sanitation,
as well as maritime safety; Prime Minister of Samoa about food
security and local markets; etc.); "sports news" (New Caledonia
beats Papua New Guinea 4-1, etc.); 1318 ends with main news
items again; "Radio Vanuatu" ID; news & sports surprising readable;
into C&W song in English and more music; // 3944.2 (poor). My audio
today at http://goo.gl/6xn0Cq .

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1127-1157*, Sept 7.
Fair reception due to RRI Palangkaraya being completely off the
air during this time period (later heard at 1409 with good signal);
many local time checks; 1130-1140 program about schools and
education, in Pidgin; DJ with pop Pacific Islands songs; montage
of pop songs for the "NBC Bougainville" promo; off in mid-song.

reception! Probably best ever; English language lesson with some
Japanese. My audio at http://goo.gl/cnj5sL .

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang, 1158-1209*, Sept 7.
1200 PNG bird call; "NBC News in Brief" (4,000 residents of Papua

Sept 7. Their local ID ("Radio Rossii Primorye") just before switching

SIKKIM. 4835, AIR Gangtok (presumed), 1325-1405, Sept 7.

announcers, in what certainly seemed to be Hindi; 1352-1354
clearly with subcontinent music/singing. Very pleased with this
reception! My audio of music and Hindi at http://goo.gl/uQiq2m .

INDONESIA. 9525.9, VOI, 1319, Sept 9. "Today in History" (today
is "National Sports Day" in Indonesia; the Democratic People's
Republic of Korea was established this date in 1948; this date 2004
there was a car bombing of Australian embassy in Jakarta); fairly
readable even with prominent audio hum; recently doing fairly
well.

SIKKIM. 4835, AIR Gangtok (presumed), 1333-1352, on Sept 9
with announcers and subcontinent music/singing; programming
very discernible; audio above threshold level. Another day without
ABC Alice Springs NT.
SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, Wantok FM relay via SIBC, 1223 till
tuned out 1236; non-stop pop songs, except for frequent IDs ("This
is Wantok FM 96.3. Good times, great music," etc.).

Seems like this new extended schedule has now become their regular
daily schedule? ex: 1200*.

Re: Asia - Pacific : DX log (6) - Ron Howard Sep 14, 2016 14:01 UTC No.1628
For my Aug 22 reception of the reactivation of Asyik FM,
received a nice e-QSL card (also sending via post). Also
confirmed Wai FM (which was actually relaying
"Limbang FM"); nice stamps. http://goo.gl/6IDvO0 .

Received from v/s:

Sharimah Abu Bakar <sharimah @ rtm.gov.my>
Jabatan Penyiaran (RTM)
Batu 13, Jalan Cheras,
43000 Kajang, Selangor.
Tel: +60 3 8736 1530 / Fax: +60 3 8736 1226

Unfortunately seems Asyik FM (6050) is now again silent.
Not heard Sept 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14. Now only Tibet
being heard on 6050.

BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, anomaly on Sept 14. Running
well past their usual sign off time; 1217 and still on the
air at tuned out 1330; announcer in vernacular; usual
brief break for indigenous music (1218); 1221-1229
indigenous music/chanting/singing; 1229-1259 non-stop
monologue; BBS theme music; news(?); 1318-1330 EZL
singing. Very unusual for them to be on this late.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, unlike
yesterday's signal with no modulation, Sept 14 had
normal audio; 1103-1202*; news; mostly in Pidgin;
1124 seemed to be an announcement for employment;
interview about "basketball"; pop songs (Eagles with
"Take It Easy," etc.); suddenly off.

SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, Wantok FM relay via SIBC,
1206-1215*, Sept 14; pops songs; ID; modulation weak.
