Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(25) :: Korea - Ron Howard Jul 14 (Tue), 2020 00:53 UTC No.4627
KOREA NORTH/SOUTH. July 13 (Monday) observed frequencies:

VOP: 3475 // 3905 // 3930 // 4450 // 6520 // 6600, at 1023; no change this week

VOH: 3985 // 4890 // 5995 // 6255 (a terrible frequency to switch to, as there is
now a daily strong CNR1 signal here, so a big mess!) // 6350 // 9105, at 1018.
All frequencies changed this week.

KCBS (N. Korea) on 3250 // 3959, at 1029; when still silent on 2850 and 3205. Of
interest to note the following from Japan, about 3205:
http://drm.mediacat-blog.jp/e139694.html

Translation: "On July 13, a DRM signal came out at North Korea's 3205 kHz, which
sometimes emitted radio waves. Labeling is the same BBEF as before. It was also output
at 3560kHz in December last year. In the 0700s, the signal level was still low, the bit rate
was a little high, and the voice could not be demodulated. The ID number is the same as
before. The time display is local time. It stopped at 0912." ?

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(25) :: Vanuatu - Ron Howard Jul 15 (Wed), 2020 09:44 UTC No.4630
VANUATU. 11835 (third harmonic of 3945 kHz.), Radio Vanuatu, on July 15, with an excellent
marathon listening session; 0230-0605 UT. As we get closer to their Independence Day (July 30),
I'm hearing more and more brief spots about independence; my favorite one is with the choral NA
("Yumi, Yumi, Yumi") and national slogans (my audio at http://bit.ly/38Z0i3k ).

0230-0330: Hour in French.

0330-0430: Hour in English; pop songs; interview about a music concert held to raise money, which
tomorrow is going to be turned over to the Red Cross; 0357-0401, early with the news and sports;
0403-0430, "Pacific Beat" (ABC RA program).

0430+: Mostly in Bislama; 0500-0503, news/sports summary; followed by weather report and nice
island song mentioning "Vanuatu" (my audio at http://bit.ly/2WmZHDr , with one minute of weather
report and three of "Vanuatu" song); 0515, program "Inside Sports," starting in English with item
about the upcoming rugby matches to be held at Port Vila Stadium (my audio at http://bit.ly/2Zx29JH ,
which is fairly readable).

Re: Bangladesh Betar with Home Service on 4750 kHz. - Ron Howard Jul 16 (Thu), 2020 15:29 UTC No.4633
BANGLADESH. 4750, Bangladesh Betar - Home Service, from 1241-1341, on July 16.
Ramadan?has been over for quite a while?now, but BB has not returned to their
External Service, but instead?has continued with their Home Service; in Bangla,
with the?usual subcontinent music/singing; 1300-1306, news. My local sunrise was
at 1302 UT, while the Dhaka sunset was at 1247 UT,?making for?nice greyline
reception. Today heard with a most unusual reception - CNR1 clearly off the air;
normally?China dominates?4750, with BB having to struggle to be heard underneath,
but today only BB heard;?also no VOI heard here. A rare situation!

Re: Echo of Hope - VOH: News program in English - Ron Howard Jul 16 (Thu), 2020 18:06 UTC No.4634
The following are comments made by Martyn Williams, an expert on matters
pertaining to Korea:

"How very interesting. Sounds like a British female and American male discussing
the news with a Korean female translating.

I wonder if the English segments or the entire show is taken from another source?
Perhaps TBS eFM in Seoul? It seems a stretch to think the Korean intelligence
service went to all this effort.

It would be good to listen again and see if there is any program name or they introduce
themselves by name. More monitoring!"

Re: CNR17 (China) & VOH (Korea) with language lessons - Ron Howard Jul 19 (Sun), 2020 02:21 UTC No.4640
CHINA. 9630 // 11630, CNR17, on July 18 (Saturday), from 1229 to 1259. The weekend?schedule for
their half hour language lesson; unlike?the English lesson last Sat., today it?was in Russian.
Starts with usual multi-language intro ("Hi, Hello, N? h?o [Chinese for?"Hello"], How are?you?,"
etc.); the lesson today seemed to just be repeating Russian?words; unlike last week, today the
whistling/humming was not so strong?and was indeedjust in the background. My local sunrise was
at 1303 UT. My audio is at http://bit.ly/3jku7Af .?Both frequencies were fair. ?

CNR17, which officially started on Jan. 1, 2015, was formerly known as "Kazakh Radio."?It now
broadcasts to the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous?Region (XUAR) in northwest China,?from a transmitter
site located in Lingshi County (a county level division under the jurisdiction?of Jinzhong?
Municipality), in Shanxi Province, China.
? ? ?
KOREA SOUTH. 9105, Echo of Hope - VOH, on July 18 (Saturday):

At 1138, an English language lesson was already in progress; scheduled for 1130-1200. I find?these
programs rather entertaining, as the Korean?woman announcer often gets comically excited?and has a
unique accent. My audio is at http://bit.ly/2ZHbjDx .

Also today from 0935 to 0952, VOH with another edition of "Touch! Global Headlines," in English?and
Korean; program ID is given at the start?of the news; good reception as usual. I find the news?items
to be fairly detailed and mostly interesting, My audio is at http://bit.ly/3fISkhd . Thanks very much
to Amano for providing the name of the news program!

Re: Language lessons - please note new program via VOH (Korea) - Ron Howard Jul 26 (Sun), 2020 16:47 UTC No.4644
CHINA. 9630 // 11630, CNR17, on July 26 (Sunday), at 1233. The weekend schedule for
their half hour language lesson; started with usual multi-language intro ("Hi, Hello, N? h?o
[Chinese for "Hello"], How are you?," etc.); Russian lesson with repeating of words; as
usual the whistling/humming was again present in the background. Today, 11630 was
the better frequency.
? ? ?
KOREA SOUTH. 9100, Echo of Hope - VOH, on July 26 (Sunday):

Heard at 1146, during a time when they normally have a half hour English language lesson
(1130-1200); I tuned in to hear a completely new and different language lesson in English
already in progress; reading from "Harry Potter and the Magician's Stone" (chapter one)
and with Korean.

My audio is at http://bit.ly/3g8BJ6Y , for 1151 reception: ?

"And finally, bird-watchers everywhere have reported that the nation's owls have been behaving
very unusually today. Although owls normally hunt at night and are hardly ever seen in daylight,
there have been hundreds of sightings of these birds flying in every direction since sunrise. Experts
are unable to explain why the owls have suddenly changed their sleeping pattern." The newscaster
allowed himself a grin. "Most mysterious. And now, over to Jim McGuffin with the weather. Going to
be any more showers of owls tonight, Jim?" "Well, Ted," said the weatherman, "I don't know about
that, but it's not only the owls that have been acting oddly today. Viewers as far apart as Kent,
Yorkshire, and Dundee have been phoning in to tell me that instead of the rain I promised yesterday,
they've had a downpour of shooting stars! Maybe people have been celebrating Bonfire Night early,
it's not until next week, folks!" ?

Needs more monitoring to try to catch the beginning of these lessons, to perhaps hear a program name?

BTW - July 26 (Sunday), from 1331 to 1351, heard 9100 with the news program called "Touch! Global
Headlines," in English and Korean; good reception; as it was the weekend, the program was a repeat
of a show aired earlier last week. My audio is at http://bit.ly/2WYFwfp .

MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, 1250-1300, on July 24 (Friday). Time for another two 5 minute
editions of "Learning English with BBC, Burmese," which are aired Wed. & Fri. during this time period;
first show presented by Tom and Tim, while second show was with Tom and Rob; saying "to much
social media has a negative effect on health," etc.; both programs were fairly readable. ?

Re: Korea update - Please note Voice of Freedom changes - Ron Howard Jul 28 (Tue), 2020 14:17 UTC No.4646

KOREA NORTH/SOUTH. July 27 (Monday) observed frequencies:

VOP: 3480 (best reception here) // 3910 // 3930 // 4450 // 6520 // 6600, at 1115.

VOH: 3985 // 4880 // 5995 // 6245 // // 6350 // 9095, at 1128, with the usual English language
lesson, mostly in Korean (not the new program heard yesterday [Sunday] of the Harry Potter
story being read, so that must only be on during the weekend from about 1130 to 1200?)

Voice of Freedom, on 6045 kHz., completely blocked by super strong white noise jamming from
N. Korea, at 1123, BUT on

July 28 (Tuesday) - A major change happened today; strong jamming moved away from 6045 (why?),
leaving VOF in the clear (very good news!), but now that jamming has returned to former 6135, which
today killed any chance for reception of Madagascar, which I had recently been enjoying. VOF (6045)
noted from 1213 to 1234, in Korean with a nice program about the Beach Boys and played many of their
songs ("Surfin' USA," "Wouldn't It Be Nice," "Good Vibrations," "Kokomo" and "God Only Knows"). My
audio (edited out most of the music) is at http://bit.ly/2CYjXF1 . ?

BANGLADESH. 4750, Bangladesh Betar - Home Service, 1300-1305, on Aug 1. News in Bangla;?
another strange day with no CNR1, nor VOI QRM. My local sunrise was at 1314 UT and Dhaka?
sunset was at 1240 UT, making for decent greyline reception. Wonder whatever happened?to
their?External Service SW transmitters that were formerly on 7250, 9455, 15105, etc.?
?
CHINA. 9630 // 11630, CNR17, on Aug 1 (Saturday), at 1233. The weekend schedule for their
half hour language lesson; started with usual?multi-language intro ("Hi, Hello, N? h?o
[Chinese for "Hello"],?How are you?," etc.); lesson in Russian with repeating of words;
as usual the whistling/humming was again present in the background; almost fair reception.

KOREA NORTH[non]. 6040, Shiokaze/Sea Breeze at 1324, on Aug 1, with the usual sound of an?
emergency siren. Strong pulsating pips?jamming already here; // 6165, where it was stronger
than?CNR6 also on frequency, but N. Korea jamming was very faint here; scheduled 1300-1400.

Per Hiroshi, the change of frequencies happened July 30. He also noted Shiokaze:

1405-1435 on 6090 // 7325
1600-1700 on 5920 // 5980.

KOREA SOUTH. 5920, Voice of Freedom, at 1114, on Aug 1. Continues to have fair reception,
with?no jamming. Super jamming continues to?remain up on ex: 6045.

9095, Echo of Hope - VOH, on Aug 1 (Saturday), from 1125 to 1155. Weekend schedule with another
installment of reading in English from "Harry Potter and the Magician's Stone," still in chapter
one,?along with being in Korean. Later, at 1334, with "Touch! Global Headlines," in English and
Korean.?Good reception.?

MADAGASCAR. 6135, Radio Madagasikara, 1338, on Aug 1. Back on July 29 (1309-1338) first noted?
this station with transmitter problems,?as was still being heard here today; transmitter on
for several?minutes then off for a minute or two, then back on again (over and over again);
via long path with decent?reception around my local sunrise. The N. Korea super jamming that
was heard here on July 28 was just?a one day only anomaly, before returning to 6045 on July 29. ?

VANUATU. 3945, Radio Vanuatu, 1104-1105, on Aug 1. National Anthem, followed by dead air (open
carrier);?1109, start of non-stop pop songs (Shania Twain - "From This Moment On," etc.); ham QRM.

Why ask professional questions here ???
This is a note to DXers looking at this article, not to Mauno.
I can't understand Korean so I just left a hint. I also wrote down a URL of the wiki,
because I thought I was probably talking about World War II because it contained the word "Russia".

Is this something to do with "DX" ?

You should ask a specialized site that has a DXer that understands Korean.
I am busy and should not ask questions that waste my time :DD

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(25) :: - XYZ Aug 02 (Sun), 2020 22:52 UTC No.4663
Thanks Mauno.

There were many Korean DXers before, but the espionage law was enforced in Korea, and many DXers were
suppressed and left. My Korean DX friends were also treated badly, such as being treated as spy by
the Korean government. It seems that the South Korean government came to investigate, so the articles
they wrote erased almost everything.
I hope that the Korean government system will change and become a free country as soon as possible.
And I want many Korean DXers to come back...

BTW, I was providing information to WRTH about 40 years ago. I don't buy it since the 2011 edition
because I can't see much of it. In the 2011 version, some of the SA (station announcement) Romanize
I provided was used, but it was incorrect because of repeated transcription and transcription.
I can't even see it because I can't see it now, but if you still use that information, please fix it.

Now, I can't help because I'm an old man with poor eyesight, poor hearing, and memory problems :DD

1230 - Start of the BB External Service - with brief subcontinent music; unable to confirm in English,
as there were THREE stations present (BB, CNR1 and assume a faint VOI); all of which produced a
real mess here. Will take a better day than today to confirm the language.

Thanks very much for the timely alert from Prof. Dr. Hansjoerg Biener (Germany), that the External

Aug 13 (Thursday)

China still with Voice of Strait being // at 1242, on both 4900 // 4940 kHz. So the anomaly continues
throughout?August? Normally 1200+ should not be //.

CNR17 (9630 // 11630), heard on a weekday from 1518 to 1529, with a Russian language lesson.

Korea, on 9105 kHz., with Echo of Hope - VOH, from first noted at 1237 all the way through last check
at 1510, without any audio at all, just a strong open carrier being heard during random checking; all the
other VOH frequencies noted with normal audio (3985 // 4890 // 5995 // 6255 // 6350).

Shiokaze (6040 // 6165 [CNR6 QRM]) this Thursday didn't have English as usual, but was in Japanese;
both frequencies jammed.

Radio Vanuatu (3945) still being heard at 1348 & 1402, with the song "You Are The Only One" sung at both
times. Seems RV is only being heard on 3945 and their harmonics.

KOREA SOUTH. Aug 17 (Monday) observed frequencies; for detailed frequencies, please see
Wolfie's posting at WOR iog, under "Korea - VOH with more language lessons?" on Aug 18.

VOP: 3480 // 3915 // 3930 // 4450 // 6520 // 6600, at 1400 UT.

VOH: 3990 // 4885 // 6000 // 6250 (mixing with N. Korea's Echo of Unification, which was // 5905)
// 6355 // 9100, at 1344 UT; in progress with the news in English and Korean ("Touch! Global Headlines" -
today's EBS's [Educational Broadcasting System] news items shown at - http://bit.ly/3kUvOFh and
were originally broadcast on Aug 3).
?
Voice of Freedom, 5920, at 1356 UT, in the clear with fair to good reception; super jamming still up on 6045.

Aug 18. On 9100, a first for me to hear Echo of Hope - VOH, with 0500* UT, going off after the instrumental
version of "The Sound of Silence."

SWAZILAND. 6025, TWR Africa, 1457 UT, Aug 17. Religious program in English; 1501, T.W.R. ID and into
vernacular; weak, via long path. ?

TIBET. 6130, Xizang PBS via Lhasa, 1342 UT, Aug 17. Another day with nice clear reception; again // 6200.
Laos certainly seems off the air here; if they were broadcasting, I'm sure I would have some trace of
another station here, but it is only Tibet. ?

VANUATU. 11835 (third harmonic), Radio Vanuatu, 0233-0533 UT, Aug 18. Highlights:

0233-0328: The French hour; mostly very nice pop French songs and ballads; mostly poor reception
this early.

0328-0431: The English Hour; starts with local Vanuatu weather; goes into segment from "Pacific Beat"
(ABC RA); interesting item:

"A Chinese ambassador causes a stir for walking on the backs of people who are welcoming him to his
new job in their country [Kiribati] - but for the locals it is a sign of respect." [Picture and story at "Pacific
Beat" - http://bit.ly/2E3ShPA ]

Pop songs; 0422, RV local segment "In The Studio," with phoned in interview with one of the students
returning to Vanuatu from Samoa, who is currently in the process of undergoing 14 days of quarantine
and he tells of his experience under quarantine. The English Hour is mostly readable and I find it very
entertaining and informative.

0431+: Programming all in Bislama; many calls from the various provinces to report about last month's
Independence Day celebrations; many words in English, so easy to follow the general content. Good
number of "Radio Vanuatu, Vois Blong Yumi" SAs.

Always nice to hear Voice of Indonesia (3325), via Palangkaraya with some audio. From 1256 to 1404 UT;
surprised to find NBC Bougainville off the air and nice to have VOI with decent audio, although only able to
make out bits and pieces; tuned into filler instrumental music; 1300-1400, in English; news; promo for
Indonesia's Independence (their Independence Day was on the 17th); "Today in History" item seemed to
be about the Japanese in Indonesia publicly surrendered on August 22, 1945, etc.; musical selections;
1400, into Indonesian; unable to hear // 4749.95, via Cimanggis/Jakarta, due to China and Bangladesh
strong QRM there. Listening at Asilomar State Beach (Calif., USA), with my CR-1 and simple antenna of
30m of wire strung out along the top of a fence next to where I park.

Re: China - Voice of Strait ends their English program "Focus On China" - Ron Howard Aug 29 (Sat), 2020 19:44 UTC No.4699

CHINA. 4940, Voice of Strait. It was back in 2005 that I first started to enjoy the weekend
programs in English of "Focus On China" that were aired by VOS; over the years, have
always found them to be very entertaining. On Aug 29 (Saturday), I found the second
weekend in a row with no "Focus On China." Normally there would be two shows on
Saturday and Sunday (*0940-0955 and 1430-1455 UT). Thought perhaps there was a
change in scheduling, but not so. Went to the VOS website for their program schedule
( http://www.vos.com.cn/about/program.shtml ) and saw that the programs had clearly
been dropped.

I will certainly miss hearing these shows, as they were the only chance to hear English IDs -
"Focus on China, in Voice of Strait Broadcasting Station . . . Fresh, dynamic, professional,
profound, explore Chinese culture . . . You are now listening to Focus on China." Here is one
of their typical programs I recorded back in Nov 2014 - https://app.box.com/s/1w3yr6o8gx8ks7tq23qc .
Back then they IDed as “This is the Voice of Taiwan Strait News Radio” and ended the program
by giving their local address.

changed their programs and frequencies on August 1. They now broadcast 3 programs
instead of former 5 programs. The program contents were also changed.

BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, 1110-1132* UT, Sept 2. Announcers and some pop songs; by 1130,
was able to confirm was in English, but only a word or two made out; very poor, with slowly
improving signal; their usual format. PBS Yunnan relay of FM99 doesn't start here till later,
so no QRM. ?

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1132-1220 UT, Sept 2. Pop songs; 1202-1207,
news in English (not very readable); during this time, no VOI QRM, but 1300+ both were
mixing together to produce a mess (both unusable).

KOREA SOUTH. This week's changes noted Sept 2 - Wed. (didn't check on Mon or Tue):

Echo of Hope - VOH: 3980 (thanks to Lucio Otavio Bobrowiec, who has already reported this
in WOR iog!) // 4885 // 5990 // 6250 (mixing with N. Korea's Echo of Unification, which was //
5905) // 6348 // 9100 (extremely weak; normally very strong), at 1229 UT, with historical
dramatization in English about the Civil War and Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation; as usual
had fair to good reception on 4885 (my audio is at http://bit.ly/3hVPAhQ ).

Voice of the People: 3475 (good reception) // 3905 // 3930 // 4450 // 6520 // 6600, at 1221 UT.

Voice of Freedom: 5920, at 1337 UT, mixing very badly with Shiokaze (yes, their first day back
here and yet another terrible frequency assignment; ex 6040 [N. Korea still jamming there] and
also heard Shiokaze // 6070, fair with no jamming yet; ex 6165). Super jamming still up on former
OF frequency of 6045.

MADAGASCAR. 6135, Radio Madagasikara, 1400+ UT, Sept 2. Another day with decent reception
for their late afternoon transmission; whereas their morning broadcast (0430+ UT) is only on the air
erratically and seems to be off the air more than they are on during that time period. ?

// 6348 // 9100, at 1227, with historical dramatization in English about President Lincoln; very readable reception

Re: Voice of Indonesia - Ron Howard Sep 13 (Sun), 2020 16:43 UTC No.4703
INDONESIA. 3325, Voice of Indonesia, via Palangkaraya, 1102+, Sept 13. An unusual day here,
as NBC Bougainville was off the air and VOI actually had audio at a very respectable level; tuned
in to hear Chinese; Japanese was after 1200+; English segment was 1300-1400; news (ex-PMs
Tony Blair and John Major item about Brexit; Russian elections being held now; etc.); ended the
news with the distinctive patriotic song "Garuda Pancasila" (aka: "Mars Pancasila"), which was
composed by Sudharnoto (who for a time worked at RRI Jakarta), with lyrics about the loyalty of all
Indonesian people to Pancasila as the only ideology or philosophy of the Indonesian nation (studio
quality recording at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBNIsIo8OLQ ). It was last Sept. that I last
heard VOI play this song, so was a special treat today; "Spotlight," with item about Jakarta enforcing
steps to prevent COVID-19; "Today in History" (Sept 13, 2007 - UN Declaration on the Rights of
Indigenous Peoples; Sept 13, 2008 - series of bombings in New Delhi; etc.); "Indonesia Today,"
about "National Sports Day"; segments "Indonesian Wonders" & "Music Corner"; multi-language PSA
("Together we can beat the coronavirus"); 1400 - my audio of the intro into Bahasa Indonesia is at
http://bit.ly/3imYoxg . By 1400, the reception was mostly fair.

An unusual day also on // 4749.95, via Cimanggis/Jakarta, as I was able to hear this frequency the
whole time due to there only being light CNR1 (China) QRM and today Bangladesh was clearly off
the air (1229+), making for a very rare day with both frequencies doing well. A most enjoyable reception,
but why can they not broadcast like this every day on 3325? ?

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(25) :: - Ron Howard Sep 15 (Tue), 2020 01:43 UTC No.4704
INDONESIA. 3325, Voice of Indonesia, via Palangkaraya, on Sept 14, at 1410. For the
second consecutive day, heard with audio at a listenable level, which is very unusual for
VOI, which normally has very low audio; at the end of the news in Bahasa Indonesia,
played the patriotic song "Garuda Pancasila" (aka: "Mars Pancasila"). Can we expect
a third day with more enjoyable audio? While // 4749.95, via Cimanggis/Jakarta, was not
heard as well today as yesterday, due to the return of Bangladesh, along with the normal
CNR1 QRM. ?

KOREA SOUTH. Frequencies for this week; observed Monday (Sept 14):

VOP: 3480 // 3910 // 3930 // 4450 // 6520 // 6600, at 1341.

VOH: 3985 // 4890 // 5995 // 6250 (whereas 6255 continues to be strongly jammed by CNR1,
against an assumed UNID station) // 6350 // 9100, at 1345, with "Touch! Global Headlines," in
English and Korean.

Voice of Freedom, 5920, at 1354, continues to have strong QRM from Shiokaze (13-14); while
the N. Korea white noise super jamming is still up on ex 6045.

MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, 1309-1319, Sept 11 (Friday). Time for another two 5 minute
editions of "Learning English with BBC, Burmese"; today with repeat shows that I heard a long
time ago; about hypnotism helping to quit smoking and overcome fear of flying.

VANUATU. 11835 (third harmonic), Sept 14 (Monday), with random checking from 0334 to last
check at 0534, found RV off the air; only CNR2 heard.

Sept 11, on 11835, RV, 0311-0330, heard a portion of their French Hour (0230-0330); 0330-0438,
in English; pop songs and "Inside the Studio" interview; 0404-0412, news (Vanuatu deputy speakers
of Parliament ask for pay raise; heavy rains cause landslides on a Vanuatu island; etc.); Vanuatu
weather; 0414-0438, "Pacific Beat," a ABC RA program (yesterday the Australian government
approved a supplemental budget for a loan to PNG, as the result of COVID-19 weakening the PNG
economy, etc.).

Sept 11, on 3945, RV, 1034-1104*; Elton John - "Sacrifice"; religious sermon in English and religious
music; went off with no ID nor NA. Since Aug 25, they no longer have any extended broadcasts past
1104+, with non-stop songs, as they did in the past.

VIETNAM. 6020, Voice of Vietnam, program 4 (ethnic minority languages service), 1455-1510, Sept 14.
Via Buon Ma Thuot, the capital city of Dac Lac Province; indigenous music/singing. Dac Lac province is

Komatsubara Hiroyuki - Wish you a speedy recovery! Take care and get well soon. Warm regards, Ron? ? ?

Tomorrow (Sept 16), is celebrated as "Malaysia Day" (commemorating the establishment of the Malaysian
federation on the same date in 1963). So in anticipation of that, I was checking today (Sept 15) to hear how
reception was from Sarawak FM (9835 kHz.). Broadcasting not from Sarawak, but via Kajang, on the west
coast of the Malaysia peninsular, about 12 miles southeast of downtown Kuala Lumpur. Pleased to find fairly
good reception. My local sunrise was at 1350 UT.

1300-1400* UT, in vernacular; 1300-1312, RTM news; DJ playing pop songs; several times heard their station
slogan in English - "This station is now the ultimate power in the universe"; went off the air at the end of a
song with no announcements. My audio is at http://bit.ly/3kilVjx . ?

Any chance that 5965 (Radio Klasik, formerly Klasik Nasional), 6050 (Asyik FM) or 7295 (Traxx FM) will return
to the air for a special broadcast on Malaysia Day tomorrow? I rather doubt it!

For over a month, the strong N. Korea white noise super jamming had been silent on 6135. Which afforded
me the wonderful opportunity to enjoy very decent Radio Madagasikara reception. BUT on Sept 15 & 16
heard strong jamming again on 6135, blocking any hope I had of RM reception. There is no known station
on this frequency to be jammed, so it continues to be a mystery to me as to why N. Korea likes this frequency
so much, even without any apparent target to jam.

Voice of Freedom, which might have been a target for 6135 jamming, is down on 5920, currently free of any
jamming and the former VOF frequency of 6045 is still being strongly jammed, even without VOF being there.
So it's difficult for me to figure out what their rationale is for the 6135 jamming?

So my Sept 13 reception of RM might be my last one for a while!

AUSTRALIA. 5055, Radio 4KZ, 0935 till cut off close to 1106:41* UT, Oct 19. Mostly pop songs
(Bertie Higgins - "Key Largo," Sam Cooke - "Cupid, Draw Back Your Bow," U.S.A. For Africa -
"We Are the World," etc.) 1000-1006 & 1100-1106, with news, but only bits and pieces made
out; good number of ads (office supplies, etc.).

BOUGAINVILLE/PNG[non-log]. On Oct 19, from 1036+, found NBC Madang (3260) and NBC
Bougainiville (3325) both continuing to be silent. My Oct 7 reception of NBC Madang turned out
to be a one day only event.

INDONESIA. 3325, Voice of Indonesia, via Palangkaraya, at 1110+, on Oct 19, heard strong

KOREA SOUTH. Frequencies for this week; observed Monday, Oct 19:

VOH: 3990 // 4885 // 6000 (strong QRM) // 6250 // 6355 // 9100, at 1140, with English language lesson.

Voice of Freedom, 5920, at 1130, with good reception (no jamming); the super jamming, white noise,
N. Korea jamming that had been on 6045 has now moved up to 6135, hence killing any chance of
my recently heard good reception of R. Madagasikara.

TAIWAN. 9276, StarStar Broadcasting Station (XingXing BS), V13, on Oct 19, at 1214. Had to listen in

VANUATU. 11835 (third harmonic), 0600, Oct 20. "Radio Vanuatu, 5 o'clock" (about an hour before their
sunset: 0648 UT); the usual indigenous drums and horns that starts and ends every news broadcast;
"News Update" in Bislama; news, sports and weather; fair, but earlier the English hour (0330-0430) had
very poor reception today (unusable).

VIETNAM. 8812-USB, Ho Chi Minh Radio - Vietnam Coast Station (VISHIPEL), *1239-1242*, on Oct 19.

0331-0435: English Hour with RV's "Inside the Studio" program, with pop songs and

Thank you very much, Amano. Appreciate your help! Ron

Oct 23 - Checking R. Vanuatu on 3945, randomly from 1136 till 1336, found they played the
Black Brothers song about once every 10 minutes! Playing non-stop music.

Also interesting to note Radio 4KZ (5055) today (Oct 23); 1000 till off shortly after the end of
the news at 1206. Would be nice if they continue with this extended schedule. Today some
news items were readable (Melbourne police have arrested 16 anti-lockdown protesters and
handed out 61 fines, etc.) and sports (Melbourne's Storm will play Penrith's Panthers in the
2020 NRL Grand Final this Sunday, etc.); of course many pop songs (Air Supply - "Even The
Nights Are Better," The Chordettes - "Mr. Sandman," Bobby Vinton - "Sealed With a Kiss,"
Tony Orlando and Dawn - "Tie a Yellow Ribbon," etc.).

Both NBC stations (Bougainville - 3325 and Madang - 3260) continue to be silent, from 1129+,
on Oct 23.

Oct 23 - Terrible news for me was finding BOTH 6045 and 6135 with N. Korea super jamming.
In the past they just had one transmitter they put on one or the other frequency. As far as I know,
there is nothing to jam on 6045 or 6135. Looks as if they plan to stay on both frequencies for a
long time, hence ending my nice Madagascar reception on 6135. Voice of Freedom is in the clear
on 5920.

Oct 23 - Noted 6060 (PBS-2 Sichuan) continues to be silent, while 7225 is much better than usual.
What happened?

MYANMAR. 6165, Thazin Radio, via Pyin Oo Lwin, 1430-1501*, Nov 16. Have not checked on?
this for a long time.?Pleased to find I could confirm they are still on the air. Of
course CNR6 was?stronger, but definite start of the Thazin?English segment at 1430;
some pop music; 1438-1444,?sounded like the news; 1444-1449, more music; 1449-1454,?
YL announcer; 1454-1500, more?music; 1500, closing announcement; 1501*; unfortunately
China had non-stop music,?making it?extremely hard to make out much in the way of good
Myanmar details. Without music QRM,?might have been?able to get better details? My
local sunrise was at 1446 UT. Will have to do?more monitoring here for this time period.

INDONESIA. 3325, Voice of Indonesia, via Palangkaraya, at 1520 UT, on Nov 22. In stilted Chinese;
audio at a decent level; while // 4749.95, via Cimanggis/Jakarta was mostly covered by much stronger
Bangladesh (4750.0).

MADAGASCAR. 5009.95, R. Madagasikara, 1452-1510 UT, Nov 22. Sunday programming of religious
(Christian) songs; 1501, clear SAs for "Radio Madagasikara"; into a program of pop/rap songs (strange
music for a Sunday!). Recently this frequency has daily been well heard via long path around my local
sunrise (1453); while 6135.0 is blocked 1400-1557 by strong CRI.
?
MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, 1530-1600 UT, on Nov 22. The start of our DX season is here!
Enjoyable reception with fairly readable English - "Hello. Good evening dear listeners. We are airing
our final transmission for today, radiating on 5-9-8-5 kHz., 50.1-3 meters, 5-7-6 kHz., 5-20 meters and
5-9-4 kHz, 5-0-5 meters. Now we start with the news." No mention of Myanmar Radio in the intro!

Government minister at opening ceremony at two power stations, COVID-19 detailed numbers for
Myanmar; COVID-19 numbers for the region (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, etc.); 176 Myanmar citizens
returned to Myanmar after being stranded in India, Australia and New Zealand due to COVID-19
suspension of commercial flights; "This is Myanmar Radio. Now you can hear the weather"; suddenly
cut off 1540*, suddenly back on *1544; music program (Willie Nelson - "You Were Always On My Mind,"
Michael Jackson - "Heal The World," etc.); at *1600 very much blocked by the start of a strong CRI. My
local sunrise at 1453 UT.

TIBET. 6200, Xizang PBS via Lhasa, 1600 UT, Nov 22. The “Holy Tibet” show in English, "presented to
you by China Tibet Broadcasting”; long segment about Tibetan incense and played a lot of indigenous
?music and singing; fairly readable; in another month, should be good!

BHUTAN. 6035, BBS. Had been checking here around 1115, which is normally a good time to catch their
signal before cutting off about 1130*, but recently nothing was heard. Perhaps today's log explains why?

Nov 23, tuned into 6035, at 1033, to hear an announcer clearly in English, but only bits and pieces made out;

Enjoyed seeing the beautiful Mt. Fuji picture. Thanks. Ron

AUSTRALIA. 5055, Radio 4KZ, on Jan 2, cut off at 1202:45* UT; each day they go off about 5 seconds
earlier than the day before.

MADAGASCAR. 6135, R. Madagasikara, 1515-1526* UT, Jan 3. Surprised to hear them doing fairly well
underneath CRI (English), with African music/singing. Believe normally they go off close to 1500* on
this frequency? On 5009.95, they started at *1526 (not on the air earlier), carrying on with their music
program. Is this their new format/schedule? Needs more monitoring.

MYANMAR. A reminder that Jan 4th (Monday) is their Independence Day. Possible special programming?

PAPUA NEW GUINEA/BOUGAINVILLE[non-log]. 3260, NBC Madang and 3325, NBC Bougainville, Jan 2,

TAIWAN. 6215, Sound of Hope, 1600 UT, Jan 3. Above average reception; as usual no time pips; clear SA by
OM and YL ("Xiwang zhi sheng guoji guangbo diantai" - Sound of Hope international broadcast station);

station slogan in English - "Sarawak FM - This station is now the ultimate power in the universe"
my audio is at https://bit.ly/3bqvCLI ); semi-fair, with adjacent QRM. Noted off the air at 1401*.

11665, Wai FM, 1335-1401*, Jan 7 (Thursday). From 1335 to 1357, with non-stop Islamic chanting
(my audio is at https://bit.ly/3nwImCC ); "Wai FM" SA (no mention of "Limbang"); ToH 1+1 time pips;
news in vernacular till cut off; still with the long standing poor audio (crackling sound). In past years,

Re:Yunnan Radio International - new ID and new schedule on 6035 kHz. - Ron Howard Jan 10 (Sun), 2021 14:17 UTC No.4760
CHINA. 6035 kHz. Yunnan Radio International (PBS Yunnan), on Jan 10, tuned in at 0950 UT,
to check as I often do for any reception of BBS/Bhutan (not heard for a long time), but instead
heard this interesting new schedule. Some highlights:

0950-1000 UT: IS of EZL instrumental music; different from the musical IS played by PBS Yunnan
on 7210 kHz. (please see log below).

1000, 1030, 1043 & 1100: New multi-language SAs (English: "Yunnan Radio International"). It may
be recalled that last July there was an announcement of the station's name being changed from "Shangri-
La" to "International." Today's SAs had no reference to "Shangri-La" and is the first time I have heard the
new SA.

1000-1030: DJ with music program; in Vietnamese.

1030-1100: Announcers in Chinese.

1100-1200: Children's program in Chinese. Normally at *1145, there would be the start of the FM99
("Shangri-La") relay via PBS Yunnan, but that is no longer on the air. There was no break at 1130 for
an ID.

1200: Unable to make out any SA; didn't hear what would normally be heard in the past of the FM99
"Radio Shangri-La" singing jingle, nor did I hear the new "Yunnan Radio International" SA.

As much as I will enjoy hearing Yunnan from 1000+, it will certainly kill any chance of hearing BBS/Bhutan,
as Yunnan will be much stronger than Bhutan.

7210 kHz., PBS Yunnan, *1040, Jan 10. Strong QRM from CNR1 (// 6125) to jam Sound of Hope (Taiwan);
played the usual long loop IS of EZL music till 1100; this IS is different from the musical IS played on 6035.

Re: Australia - Korea - Vanuatu - Ron Howard Jan 13 (Wed), 2021 13:41 UTC No.4761

AUSTRALIA. 5055, Radio 4KZ, random listening from 0849+ UT, on Jan 13. Well above
normal reception; almost semi-readable; pop songs (Bobby McFerrin - "Don't Worry
Be Happy," Mac Davis - "Baby Don't Get Hooked On Me," etc.). Certainly one of their
better receptions. Jan 11, noted 1202:01*.

KOREA NORTH[non]/SOUTH. Frequencies for this week; observed Monday, Jan 11:

VOP: 3480 (best frequency) // 3910 // 3930 // 4450 // 6520 // 6600, at 1030 UT. Another
week with no change.

VOH: 3985 (QRM) // 4890 // 5995 // 6255 // 6350 // 9105, at 1034. Another week with all
frequencies changed.

Voice of Freedom, 5920, at 1040, with good reception (no jamming); the super jamming,
white noise, from N. Korea was on 6045 and 6135, but later from 1157+ the jamming was
gone from 6135, so only there for a few days.

7200, National Unity Radio via TAIWAN (broadcasting to N. Korea), at 1143-1144, Jan 11.
Brief language lesson; started and ended with the pop song "ABC" by the Jackson 5; "Never
mind. I am sorry"; good reception.

VANUATU. 3945, R. Vanuatu, randomly from 0745 till trx off at 1114 UT, on Jan 13. Am very grateful
to Manuel Mendez (via WOR iog) for the timely alert! At tune in on 3945, was not too bad, but third
harmonic 11835 was unusable; after 0800, the 11835 reception had greatly improved; 0830, "Radio
Vanuatu, half past seven"; programming in Bislama; later on 3945 (11835 unheard), at 1000, the
usual intro to the news/sports/weather, with indigenous music of horns and drums; news ended at
1019; from 1032 to 1101, ending the day with the usual sermon and religious songs; 1101, closing
announcement and National Anthem; 1102-1114, open carrier (no audio); dead air till trx off.
Wonderful to have them back again! Attached audio of ID and local time check.

Hi Amano,

Thank you so very much for the wonderful VOF program information you provide. Most helpful.

Yes, on Jan 29, I also noted VOF up on 6045 kHz. Perhaps a move to avoid Vatican Radio, via the PHILIPPINES, on 5920 kHz?
I heard 5920 today with a super strong signal at 1437 UT, in Hindi; totally blocking 5920.

Hello! Ron-san

Thank you for checking the VOF program and uploading your audio.

http://hiroshi.mediacat-blog.jp/e142285.html
6045kHzはジャミングが3kHz上に出ているので、別の局が28日から聞こえている。5920kHzに出ていたVOFがQSYしている。27日は5920kHzに出ていた。
6048のジャミング停波後はVOFがクリアーに聞こえている。
According to Hiroshi's information, VOF existed at 5920 kHz until Jan 27, but moved to 6045 kHz on Jan 28.
At that time, North Korean super jamming existed at 6048 kHz, which is + 3kHz higher.

http://hiroshi.mediacat-blog.jp/e142300.html
北朝鮮のいわゆるスーパージャミングは30日、6048が3kHzダウン、6045kHz へ戻った。同波のVOFがつぶされてしまった。
Currently, North Korean super jamming has returned to 6045 kHz, and VOF is completely blocked.

I also confirmed a broadcasting station that seems to be Vatican radio on 5920 kHz, at 1505 on Jan 28.

Re: Korea - February 1 (Monday) frequencies - Ron Howard Feb 01 (Mon), 2021 09:13 UTC No.4770
KOREA SOUTH. Feb 1 (Monday) observed frequencies for this week.

Voice of the People: 3480 (best reception) // 3910 // 3930 // 4450 // 6520 // 6600, at 0820; another
week with no changes.

Echo of Hope - VOH: 3980 // 4885 (Brazil QRM) // 5990 // 6250 // 6348 // 9100, at 0815; another
week with all frequencies changed.

Voice of Freedom, on alternate frequency of 6045, at 0825; poor reception due to mixing with N. Korea
super jamming on frequency. VOF ex: 5920, now a clear frequency, but today with OTH radar.

6135 is now being super jammed by N. Korea, with no other station there to be jammed, at 0827.

KBS, on 6015, mixing with N. Korea jamming, at 0830.

Re: Myanmar[non-logs] and Solomon Islands - Ron Howard Feb 01 (Mon), 2021 13:42 UTC No.4771

MYANMAR. Feb 1, checking for any activity (none heard).

5985, normally after NHK closes (1130* UT), I would be hearing Myanmar Radio just signing on, in the clear,
with a decent signal, but today they were certainly not broadcasting; last checked at 1240.

5915, normally would be able to hear some signal from Myanmar Radio underneath CRI, but not heard today.

6165 and 7345, unable to hear any signal from Thazin Radio.

So it seems the military has indeed taken over control of all the SW stations. Needs more monitoring.

SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC, 1159-1218* UT, Feb 1. Evening Devotional; normal SA in English and
National Anthem; today continued broadcasting from 1203 to 1218*, with non-stop pop songs; almost
fair reception and music with good audio. Running past their usual closing time, which is normally just
after the NA.

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(25) :: - Ron Howard Feb 03 (Wed), 2021 05:15 UTC No.4772
AUSTRALIA. 5055, Radio 4KZ, 0800+, on Jan 31. "National News"; items about "lock down . . .
quarantine"; weather; spot about history of sports in Australia; pop songs (Peter Frampton -
"Baby, I Love Your Way," etc.), commercial announcements.

CHINA. 6145 // 9630, CNR17, 1703, Feb 2 (Tuesday). Thanks very to Dr Hansjoerg Biener
(Germany) for his valuable feedback about the // 6145, that I had not heard before; the usual
long "Radio" jingle/song; 1720, weekday language lesson in Russian, along with Kazakh;
multi-language intro ("Hi, Hello. N? h?o [Chinese for "Hello"], How are you?," etc.); repeating
words and phrases in Russian; 9630 slightly stronger than 6145. Jan 29 (Friday), language
lesson was in English. ?

ERITREA. 7140, VOBME 1, 1448-1507, Feb 2. HOA music and chanting, via long path; better
than usual reception; also heard 7180, VOBME 2 (clearly not //) and both about equal strength.

KOREA SOUTH. 5995, Echo of Hope - VOH, 0738, Jan 31 (Sunday). The weekend reading of
the "Harry Potter" story in English and Korean; this station plays a four hour program loop, so
this program was in fact heard again at 1138.

MADAGASCAR. ?6135, Radio Madagasikara, at 1350, Feb 2. The N. Korea super jamming that
had recently been here for a few days is now gone yet again; RM in the clear with pop songs.

MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, 1353+, Feb 2. Back on the air after yesterday's absence;
regular programming; 1527, Buddhist chanting of the sutra, followed by the ringing of a bell;
1531, into English segment, but can only make out bits and pieces due to UNID QRM; news,
but not the usual; long item with OM mentioning "elections," "constitution," "one year state of
emergency"; 1550, normal spot with statistics for COVID-19 for SE Asia; weather; 1555, very
unusual, they went into vernacular, whereas in the past the English segment was all English;
*1559, strong sign on of CRI; 1656*, CRI off; RM in the clear with Bee Gees - "Too Much
Heaven"; closing announcement in English and National Anthem till 1700*.

Thazing Radio, on 6165, assume being heard at 1401+, on Feb 2. Heard under a much stronger
CNR6. Tentatively still on at 1511, past their usual sign off of 1500*?

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang, 1109, Jan 31. Better reception today; can clearly tell
the audio is still badly muffled (unreadable). On Feb 1, noted off the air from 1118+, so still broadcasting
erratically. ?

PHILIPPINES. 9925, R. Pilipinas, 1737, Feb 2. Excellent reception (a rating I rarely use); in Filipino/
Tagalog; // 12120 was also heard, but with pulsating noise and prominent het; as usual no carrier at all
on 15190.

TIBET. 6200, Xizang PBS, via Lhasa, 1604, Feb 2. "Holy Tibet"; still fairly readable; items about the
upcoming Chinese lunar New Year's Spring Festival, the biggest holiday in China and Tibet, also gives
improved income figures for the people in Tibet. ?

VANUATU. 3945, R. Vanuatu, just to prove me wrong, on Jan 31 noted trx off at 1103*, instead of the
recently consistent 1114:30. Propagation varies wildly from day to day. Sometimes can hear the
harmonics (7890 & 11835), other days not heard. ?

ZAMBIA. 5915, R. One/ZNBC1, 1641, Feb 2. One good thing about them moving away from ex 5995,
is that I can now clearly hear them via long path, as 5995 was always jammed by N. Korea, making
reception impossible; today with repetitive African pop music; almost fair reception.

MYANMAR[non-log]. 5985, Myanmar Radio, via Yangon. Checking 1330+ UT (8 PM local Yangon time),
on March 5; found still off the air past 1545 UT; unusual to find them silent. Searching online
for possible explanation, found the following answer:

https://www.garda.com/crisis24/news-alerts/451311/myanmar-power-outage-reported-in-multiple-cities-nationwide-march-5

"Local sources indicate power outages are occurring in multiple cities nationwide as of the afternoon of March 5.
Reports suggest electrical disruptions are affecting Mandalay, Naypyidaw, and Yangon, among other cities.
Specific details are unclear. The disruptions occurred amid continued unrest and clashes between protesters
and security forces in multiple locations following the Feb. 1 military coup.

Severe commercial and transport disruptions are likely during the outages. Businesses without backup generators
may have to suspend operations. Traffic lights may not function, resulting in traffic disruptions. The power outage
may also prompt brief municipal water outages and interruptions to electronic water filtration systems. Lingering
disruptions are possible after power supplies resume."

"Ron, the other thing I forgot to mention is that the transmitter site is at Emten Lagoon, on the south-west side

(Who are you?). My audio is at http://bit.ly/3l4kabg . On March 11, at 1145 UT, another Chinese language
lesson, so the English lessons are permanently gone?

MALAYSIA. 9835, Sarawak FM, via Kajang (on the west coast of the Malaysia peninsular - not from Sarawak),
1055-1059 UT, on March 10. The Islamic Maghrib (sunset prayer) call-to-prayer; fair-good. The call-to-prayer is
distinctively different from the routine reciting from the Qur'an and is only about 3-4 minutes long.

11665, Wai FM, via Kajang, 1031 UT, March 10. DJ in vernacular; again with the long standing very poor audio.
No one from this station seems to ever listen to their output!

MYANMAR. 5985, Radio Myanmar, on March 11, at 1155 & 1207 UT. Only hearing an open carrier (dead air).
?
PAPUA NEW GUINEA/BOUGAINVILLE[non-logs]. At 0916 & 0936 UT, on March 10. No NBC Madang (3260),
no NBC Bougainville (3325) and also no signal from Wantok Radio Light (7325).

TAIWAN. 6215 // 6230 // 6280, Sound of Hope, 1200 UT, on March 11. Unusually strong signal on all three
frequencies; SA "Xiwang zhi sheng guoji guangbo diantai" (Sound of Hope international broadcast station)
given twice (once by OM and once by YL); into the news; all with no CNR1 jamming, which is rarely heard
here; considerable QRN (static). My audio is at http://bit.ly/3l6V2kn .

UNIDENTIFIED. 6235-USB, 0644 UT, March 8. Chatting in French. ? ?

"China: In the past, there were differing reports about the language lessons at CNR-17. Here is my log of the English language lesson on CNR17 today:

CHINA. 6145 // 9630, CNR17, on March 12. From 1721 to 1738 UT, in Kazakh, with an English language lesson;
the usual multi-language intro ("Hi. Hello. N? h?o [Chinese for "Hello"], How are you?," "Welcome to RSR[?]");
strong whistling; "It is a fine day today," "smaller - taller," "I am better today," "better - best," "I am better than
you," "My car is . .", "My house is . .," "My room is not as clean as yours," etc.; somewhat readable; 9630 many
times stronger than 6145. My audio is at http://bit.ly/3eEmVPz .

Also heard this today:

TAIWAN. 6215, Sound of Hope, 1448-1459 UT, on March 12. Continuing to have much better than normal reception;
very unique segment today with a considerable amount of English by a native speaker, about economics. Very rare

VANUATU. 11835 (harmonic), Radio Vanuatu. Thanks very much for the timely alert from Rob Wagner
(Australia); on March 14 (Sunday), with a new schedule; ex: 7260 kHz. and formerly 11835 was
*0659 UT. Some highlights from today's reception:

0533-0549 UT: Tuned in to hear a Bible story told in Bislama.

0549-0602: Religious music and songs.

0602-0622: A talk in Bislama about family issues; much of it with English words ("family bonding . . loyalty
to each other . . be loyal and faithful . . be understanding of other opinions . . respect their rights . . choose
our own friends and music," etc.); ended with a prayer for the family.

0631+: PSA in Bislama for cyclone preparedness; into music program.

0702: SA and "Welcome to Vanuatu's National News Hour," with news in Bislama.

Much of the time equal strength to // harmonic 7890 kHz.

Re: Taiwan - Fu Hsing BS - Suspected to have a new schedule? - Ron Howard Mar 18 (Thu), 2021 13:12 UTC No.4806

TAIWAN. 9410 // 9774, Fu Hsing BS, 0832-1000* UT, on March 18 (Thursday). Tuned in looking for and
expecting to find 0900*, but that didn't happen. Possibly a new schedule? In the past, it was only on Sunday
they ran to 1000*, otherwise was 0900*; announcers in Chinese and playing a fair amount of Chinese songs;
poor to very poor reception, as this is challenging DX for me; too weak to confirm SA, but the off frequency
and being in parallel helps a lot. Really needs more monitoring to confirm what is actually happening with them. ?

AUSTRALIA. 5055, Radio 4KZ, on March 18, cut off at 1204:30* UT; continuing to cut off about
5 seconds earlier every day.

KOREA SOUTH. 7200, National Unity Radio, 1146 UT, on March 18 (Thursday). Brief Chinese language
lesson; started and ended with Joyce Chu singing "Hao xiang ni - I Miss You“; mostly in Korean; gave a
few words in Chinese and a sentence using the words - "N? sh?nt? z?nme yang?" "H?o" ("How is your
health?," a greeting in Chinese, with the answer "good"). "H?o" reception! My audio attached.

VANUATU. 3945, Radio Vanuatu, 1112+, March 18. From about March 10, have noted RV doesn't turn
off the transmitter after the audio stops about 1100; just hearing an open carrier (dead air). About 1150,
Echo of Unification's transmitter is turned on for their 1200+ programming, blocking the RV carrier.

regular programs; 1733-1815, with speech by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte before the joint meeting of the

Re: Korea - Monday - March 22 - Ron Howard Mar 22 (Mon), 2021 21:12 UTC No.4814
Here are my March 22 (Monday) Korea observations:

KOREA NORTH. From 0710+ UT, noted 6045 and 6135, continuing to have super jamming.

KOREA SOUTH. Frequencies for this week: ?

VOH: At 0941 UT, only three frequencies on the air; all well heard; 3985 // 5995 // 6350; news stories
in English and Korean; a new time?for this segment; formerly 0741 and 1141. Do not know what the?new
news schedule is? Later at *1000, found 4880 // 6245 // 9095.

VOP: At 0946 UT, only three frequencies on the air; 3480 // 3910 // 4450. Later at 1001, found?
3930 // 6520 // 6600.

Voice of Freedom: At 0930 UT, on 5920; fair-good reception (no jamming), with "Hanminjog tong-illo?
milaelo" program (Korean people,?to unity, to the future).

BTW - Radio Vanuatu was off the air March 22, checking their frequencies from 0545 through 0955 UT.?
Also off the air was NBC Madang?(3260), silent now for a long time; NBC Bougainville (3325), also a?
long time absent; and no signal at all on 7325 (Wantok Radio Light),?at 0915 UT.

KOREA NORTH. new frequency 6160, KCBS, 0733+ UT, on March 24. Thanks very much to Hiroshi
for this timely tip; tuned in to hear very good reception; it was not till about 0940, that I had positive
confirmation was // 3320, which was much weaker than the strong 6160. Hiroshi speculates that this
new frequency is ex: 6400, which would seem right.

Re: Korea - Voice of Freedom back on 6045 kHz., along with N. Korea super jamming - Ron Howard Mar 25 (Thu), 2021 15:47 UTC No.4819

KOREA SOUTH. back on alternate frequency 6045 (ex: 5920), at 1437 UT, March 25. N. Korean
super jamming dominates this frequency, so very poor VOF reception. Recently sent Jamie LaBadia,
the radio engineer who installed the VOF's SW transmitter, an audio clip of my recent 5920 reception.
He was very pleased to learn the VOF signal was still strong and the audio very good, along with no
jamming. Sad that VOF has again moved to 6045, which is a terrible frequency assignment.

Ex: 5920, heard with strong Vatican Radio signal, via Philippines, with Hindi music, so no VOF QRM!.

Hi Ron-san and sat_dxer,

Thank you for the information on 6160 kHz Pyongyang BS.
Pyongyang BS on 6160 kHz, I also checked it out.

KOREA NORTH. 6160, Pyongyang BS, -1800* UT, on March 27 (Saturday).
The music faded out after 1759 UT, and the station ID and time announcement.
The announcement is "???? ???. 3?? ???????. (Pyeong-yang bangsong-ibnida. Se-sileul allyeodeugessseubnida)“.
* “3?(Se-si)“ is 0300 PYT (1800 UTC)
After the time signal, Pyongyang BS stopped.
After that, the CRI German program started.
There was an announcement of CRI German ID "Dies ist Radio China International".
My audio (02:00) is at https://radio.chobi.net/bbsasia/img/4705.mp3 .

Pyongyang BS, which existed at 6400 kHz, stopped at 1800 UT.
The current 6160 kHz also stops at 1800 UT.
Since Pyongyang BS appeared at 6160 kHz, 6400 kHz is still stopped, so the possibility of ex: 6400 is very high.

INDONESIA. 3325, Voice of Indonesia, via Palangkaraya, on March 28; a rare day with some actual audio.

1110 UT - After the news in Chinese, ending with the distinctive national song “Bagimu Negeri” (For You Our Country).

1307 - After the news in English, ending with the national song “Bagimu Negeri”; followed by "Today In History."
?
1409 - After the news in Bahasa Indonesia, ending with the national song “Bagimu Negeri.” My local sunrise
was at 1359 UT.

Very nice to find VOI is still playing this patriotic song after every news broadcast. Unable to hear // 4749.95,
via Cimanggis/Jakarta due to heavy QRM there. ? ?

KOREA SOUTH. 9095, Echo of Hope - VOH, 0539 UT, on March 26. News headlines in English; news in English
and Korean. March 27 (Saturday), weekend schedule at 1131, with the usual reading in English and Korean
of a "Harry Potter" story.

7200, National Unity Radio [non-log], checking 1102 UT, on March 28, to find they have finally left this frequency,
so it is now clear for ham use.

LAOS[non-log]. 6130, Lao National Radio. Recently (including March 28) at 1200 UT, checking here for any trace
of the LNR ringing of bell/gong 7 times, but clearly only Tibet being heard (// 6200), with no hint of any QRM. LNR
has been gone for a long time now!

MALAYSIA. 9835, Sarawak FM, via Kajang (on the west coast of the Malaysia peninsular - not from Sarawak), at
1050-1053 UT, on March 28. The distinctive Islamic Maghrib (sunset prayer) call-to-prayer; later at 1159-1202, the
Isa'a (night prayer) call-to-prayer; these are just two of the five daily Islamic prayers: fair.

11665, Wai FM, via Kajang, 1029 UT, March 28. Finally the audio quality is somewhat better than had recently been
broadcast.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA/BOUGAINVILLE[non-logs]. At 1117 UT, on March 28. Again found no signal at all from either
NBC Madang (3260), nor NBC Bougainville (3325 - see INDONESIA). Both have been silent for quite a while now,

INDONESIA. 3325, Voice of Indonesia, via Palangkaraya, on March 29, with the second consecutive
day of audio. Nice!

1212 UT - After the news in Japanese, ending with the distinctive national song “Bagimu Negeri” (For You
Our Country).

1307+ - After the news in English, ending with the national song “Bagimu Negeri”; followed by "Today In
History" (this date in 2010, the Moscow Metro bombings, etc.); "Indonesian Wonders," "Let's Speak
Bahasa Indonesia" ("The house is white. The houses here are green," etc.); "Music Corner"; many SAs,
giving this frequency; several PSA's in BI for COVID-19.
?
KOREA SOUTH. March 29 (Monday) - Frequencies for this week: ?

VOH: 3980 // 4885 // 5990 // 6250 // 6348 // 9100, at 1035 UT.

VOP: 3480 // 3910 // 3930 // 4450 // 6520 // 6600, at 1030 UT.

Voice of Freedom: 6045, at 1040 UT and mixing badly with N. Korea super jamming.
6135, was clear frequency at 1040, but at 1159 re-check, heard super jamming here again; SJ is on the
air rather erratically!

TAIWAN. 6214.92v, Sound of Hope, 1400 UT, March 29. The now normal, very nice fair reception; never
with any time pips; usual ID and into the news in Chinese. Sorry, I have been rather cavalier about reporting
this frequency; in the past it was often slightly on the low side of 6215, but today, more so than usual.

Greetings from warm Monterey, California! Yesterday and today in low 20's Celsius :))

AUSTRALIA. 5055, Radio 4KZ, on March 31, at 0915 UT. Pop song; Marvin Gaye - "I Heard It Through
The Grapevine"; heard at a level that allowed for easy IDing of songs.

CHINA. 4900 & 4940, Voice of Strait, 0908+ UT, March 31. Tuned in to find prominent open carriers,
long before their programming audio started.

7345, The Voice of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (CNR7), 1200 UT, April 1. Time
pips and full SA with distinctive "FM" references, identical to Amano's informative posting -
https://radio.chobi.net/DX/bbs/?res:4805 . Formerly was CNR1 here. My audio is at http://bit.ly/3fzjOIP . ?
? ? ? ?
9630, CNR17, from 1716 to 1725 UT, on March 31. In Kazakh, with an English language lesson; the usual
multi-language intro ("Hi. Hello. N? h?o [Chinese for "Hello"], How are you?," "Welcome to RSR[?]"); strong
whistling; "Monday evening we went to . . ," "Last day of the year," "We went to the town center to welcome
the New Year," etc.; not very readable; unable to hear // 6145.

11835, CNR2. As Glenn has already mentioned:

"VANUATU. 11835, March 25 at 0606, JBA carrier presumed R. Vanuatu, 3945 x 3; but nothing heard on
7890 = 3945 x 2. Will 11835 have a CCI problem in A-21? Yes, tentative HFCC shows nothing on 11835 but
CNR China, 150 kW, 257 degrees from ?Xi`an site at 0000-1300! There was nothing at all in B-20 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)"

March 30 (Tuesday), heard Radio Vanuatu (harmonic), CNR2 and CODAR mixing together at 0508 UT, on 11835;
with RV playing island music; noted CNR2 going off the air after the 0600* time pips; yes, CNR2 is not always
on past 0600+. On March 31, did hear them on long after 0600+. Not sure just what the CNR2 schedule is?
Which days have 0600*? Happy to still find CNR2, at BoH, with their usual brief English SA - "This is C-N-R
Business Radio," which is not given at ToH.

KOREA SOUTH. new 9475, National Unity Radio, 1249-1250 UT, on April 1 (Thursday), ex: 7200. Brief Chinese
language lesson; started and ended with Joyce Chu singing "Hao xiang ni - I Miss You“; mostly in Korean; gave
a few words in Chinese and a sentence using the words; poor, as N. Korea jamming had already started here by
1150. This seems rather strange to me, as the whole time they were on 7200, they were never jammed (not even
once!).

PHILIPPINES. 15190, R. Pilipinas, *1730-1929* UT, May 31. Started out very poor, but later was mostly fair; in Filipino/
Tagalog with long segment about the Philippine national COVID-19 vaccination plan; // 9925 (unusable) // 12120
(partly readable).

TAIWAN. 9410 // 9774, Fu Hsing BS, 0859* UT, March 31. In Chinese and playing some music; at 0843, had a brief
language lesson, with words being repeated, but too weak to tell the language; poor reception, but improving by
sign off.

THAILAND. 5875, RT, 1139 UT, April 1. Still hearing Thai at this time, so the new schedule has not started yet!
