Had a rare reception today by hearing Fu Hsing BS (Taiwan) on both 9410 // 9774. Do not remember
the last time that happened. In Chinese and some EZL music till 1000* UT. Last month observed 9774
closing at 0900*, so a new cut off time; 9410 was blocked today at *0958 by strong BBC sign on.

Re: Radio Nyawa Sarawak new schedule - Ron Howard Apr 12 (Sun), 2020 19:01 UTC No.4431

Radio Nyawa Sarawak's website ( https://www.radionyawasarawak.org/ ) indicates a change in
their scheduling. Last week (April 6 through 10) they had one hour shows (1000-1100 UT), every
day (not just Mon-Wed-Fri). Website now indicates "ISNIN - JUMAAT" (Monday - Friday). There is
audio streaming there of the programs. Seems expanded schedule due to COVID-19 coverage.
Still lists 11890 kHz. as their frequency. Have just emailed the station for confirmation of current
frequency.

Thanks to Ivo Ivanov for the alert (SWLDX Bulgaria News April 12):
https://swldxbulgaria.blogspot.com/2020/04/no-signal-of-radio-nyawa-sarawak-from.html ?

"UZBEKISTAN(non) NO SIGNAL of Radio Nyawa Sarawak from March 30, probably deleted:
1000-1200 on 11890 TAC 100 kW / 131 deg to SEAs Iban/Bahasa Malay Mon/Wed/Fri or NF"

Re: Fu Hsing BS (Taiwan) with 1000* UTC - Ron Howard Apr 13 (Mon), 2020 08:36 UTC No.4432
Thanks very much to Bruce Churchill, for the following correction:

"Believe Fu Hsing 9410 is on until 1000 on Sundays only per Short Wave Info database…other days until 0900.
I’m trying 9410 now (0640) via Northland Radio in NZ but only the BBC from Pinheira is audible and will be here
until 0800." [April 13]

Appreciate this feedback! So 9410 // 9774 are both 1000* only on Sunday.

Emailed response just came in from Radio Nyawa Sarawak (0030 UTC, April 14):

"Thanks for messaging us. We are off air for a month or so as Malaysia is facing lockdown due to Covid-19.
We will be back on air once things improve. In the meantime we are still putting out a show Mon - Fri online.

Best wishes,

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(24) :: - Ron Howard Apr 19 (Sun), 2020 20:40 UTC No.4457
BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, April 19, from 1042 till blocked by start up at *1145 of PBS Yunnan (FM99);
started well below threshold level audio and worked its way up to above threshold, but still unreadable;
only able to make out a few words in English; usual formal with some pop songs in English; running
later than usual. Has been a while since I last heard Bhutan.

BOUGAINVILLE[non-log]. 3325, NBC Bougainville again silent on April 19, from 0824+. Later at 1022,
heard the carrier of VOI, but today with no audio at all; for VOI audio I checked 4749.95, at 1151 and
noted VOI mixing with CNR1, both in Chinese. NBC Madang's (3260) long standing absence continues
through April 19.

CHINA. 4940, Voice of Strait, 0943-0955, April 19 (Sunday). Program "Focus on China," with a repeat
of the sound tract from documentary I heard about a year ago here, about the first Emperor of China
(Qin Shi Huang) and his military achievements (mechanical crossbow, etc.) and his unifying the country;
fairly readable even with OTH radar.

6035, PBS Yunnan, with relay of FM99; suddenly started at *1145, on April 19; on top of BBS (Bhutan).

7210, PBS Yunnan, 1040, April 19. Very strong signal with musical loop IS; heard well above the jamming
of SOH (Taiwan) by CNR1.

JAPAN. 8006, low powered JG2XA, with the HF-Doppler (HFD) Project, again heard with carrier at 0823 &
1026, on April 19. While their // frequency 5006 remains silent.

MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, April 19, at 1156. Stronger than usual signal; Happy Birthday wishes
followed by unique song in both vernacular and English ("Happy Birthday . . . I love you . . . I need you");
COVID-19 PSA in vernacular. My audio at http://bit.ly/2KjonXc .

MALAYSIA. 9835, Sarawak FM, 1011+, April 19. Reception well above the norm; in vernacular; playing pop songs.

TAIWAN. 6215, Sound of Hope, 1100, April 19. Usual SA by OM and YL ("Xiwang zhi sheng guoji guangbo diantai" -
Sound of Hope international broadcast station); into the news; mostly fair reception.

VANUATU. 11835 (harmonic), with Radio Vanuatu. April 19 - Police siren at 0856, then religious songs till 0935
(song "I Love That Man From Galilee," etc.); reception not very good (QRN), but able to catch clear SA and some
of the Lord's Prayer in English (My audio at http://bit.ly/2wVxvOE ); Sunday religious sermon ("message of hope")
mentioning COVID-19 and Cyclone Harold. Later at 1154, found 7890 kHz. (harmonic) with RV signature song
"You Are The Only One." Primary frequency of 3945 mostly unusable, so very pleased to have the harmonics to
listen to.

Very enjoyable reception :)

VANUATU. 5040, R. Vanuatu, on April 21, noted off close to 0659:46* UT; very poor; changed frequency
to 3945 and observed:

11835 (harmonic); *0700-0723 UT, with the "National News"; very readable; items about "outgoing prime
minister," Cyclone Harold and location of emergency centers, etc. Strong signal!

0724-0758, discussion in vernacular about COVID-19, small businesses and bank loans; gave phone
number for listeners to call in with "questions and comments"; very poor audio for the on-air phone
conversations; at times audio hum heard from the studio; 0758, some nice Pacific Islands music.
Reception the whole hour was mostly good. 7890, harmonic was poor, while 3945 was unusable.
Is wonderful to have such outstanding reception on 11835 kHz.!

BOUGAINVILLE/INDONESIA. 3325, NBC Bougainville on May 1, running much later than usual;
mixing with Voice of Indonesia (via Palangkaraya); 1204-1206 UT, NBC News; PSA for COVID-19;
from 1207 to 1230, long monologue by native speaker of English (unfortunately was unable to make
out what this was all about); an unusual format for NBC; played some music; 1301, both NBC and
VOI with the news (mixing together rather badly); VOI at 1317, with "Today In History." An unusual

May 5 (Tuesday) - Radio Nyawa Sarawak, via Tashkent, has resumed their SW broadcasting
on 11890 kHz., now on daily from Monday to Friday; today heard with new schedule from tune
in at 1104 till 1158* UT (although their website still lists the former schedule of ex: 1000-1100 UT);
in vernacular with mostly phone conversations; one brief spot in English about corruption in "East

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville. Due to COVID-19, has been especially erratic with
their broadcasting.

May 1, running past 1320+ UT.

May 2 and 3, off the air.

May 6, from 1307+ UT, in English and Pidgin; COVID-19 PSA ("It's about life and death"); many
items about the virus; playing a lot of Pacific Islands pop songs; no audio today from VOI, so no
QRM; SAs for "NBC Radio"; at 1400, heard bits and pieces of the PNG National Radio Song (“In
our land of a thousand tongues, brothers and sisters old and young, unite our hearts so we feel as
one . . . We pledge to stand together as one people, one nation, one country. God bless Papua New
Guinea. You and me now together as one. Sharing our faith, united as one, one country. . . The time
has come to stand together side by side, the time has come to pray together, and God will be our
guide. . . . Unite to be one people, one nation, one country - PNG”); has been many years since
I last heard this patriotic song; still on at 1410; poor, but at times fair; my local sunrise was at 1308 UT.

suddenly started with program already in progress.

JAPAN. 8006, low powered JG2XA, with the HF-Doppler (HFD) Project, heard carrier through May 6,
while their 5006 frequency remains silent. ?

KOREA SOUTH. 5857.5 AM, HLL2 Seoul, 1208, on May 5. In English (fairly readable); with marine
conditions; providing wind direction, wind speed in meters per second, weather conditions, wave
height in meters. Very nice to have such clear audio now, as for many years this station had distinctive
muffled audio that made understanding what was said very difficult. My audio at http://bit.ly/3ceR17W .

MEXICO/CHINA. 6185, XEPPM Radio Educacion, off at 1009*, April 29. With their new extended schedule,
now causing significant QRM for CHBC (China); This year, CHBC has much stronger signal than last year.

AUSTRALIA[non-log]. 5055, Radio 4KZ. May 26, checking 0820+, only to find them
off the?air today. Contacted Al Kirton?(general manager at 4KZ) and here is his
reply:

"There is a problem with the STL [studio transmitter link]. Hopefully fixed in a
few hours. The?studio end is an Italian made?RVR brand 847 MHz 5 watt transmitter.
The transmitter end isan Australian made Fordray receiver. Both are frequency?agile
for the entire UHF band. Theproblem is not with these units. It’s with our crappy
distribution amplifiers at the studio?end.?I turned off the HF transmitter due to
extremely low modulation."

Am always appreciative of Al's quick and informative responses to my emails! ?

KOREA NORTH. new frequency of 3205, KCBS. Am always grateful for the insightful comments?
received from Martyn Williams (journalist,?researcher and expert on N. Korea), who has
made the?following helpful observations:

"Interesting that they are apparently off 2850. That's been one of the long-time, long-running?
frequencies.

I see several possibilities:

1) 2850 developed a fault and is temporarily off air. With the Chinese border more or less
closed?right now, it could be a protracted closure?should NK need parts from overseas. If
this is the case,?3205 could be a temporary back-up that are having trouble with or totally
unrelated?to the loss of?2850.

2) 2850 is gone and 3205 is the replacement (but why shift from a long-established frequency
that?was never jammed?)

3) 3205 is a black-ops station and they're running KCBS as filler while they test propagation

It's a bit early to tell, so we keep listening. FWIW, 2850 has appeared weak for months although?
I have not studied it. But every time I tune on?an SDR, the reception has been weak and I did
think that it used to be a lot better. However, you're in a much better place to measure this
as?you listen?regularly from the same spot with the same radio."

Re: PNG - Radio Fly to return to SW? - Ron Howard May 28 (Thu), 2020 02:46 UTC No.4523
Recently saw online that Ok Tedi Mining Limited (Western Province, Papua New
Guinea) has a new managing director/chief executive officer (Musje Werror), so I
thought I should contact him. Portion of my email, after I congratulated him on his
new position:

"I was wondering if any consideration has been given to reactivating Radio Fly, via
shortwave radio? It was operated by Ok Tedi Mining Limited, back when Nigel H.
Parker was the CEO of Ok Tedi Mining Limited (about 2011-2013). From my location
here on the coast of California, I often enjoyed hearing Radio Fly back then. Always
appreciated the service OTML provided to the good people of PNG, by airing
important information via Radio Fly."

Five minutes later received this surprising email from him:

"Hi Ron - Thanks for your email. We plan to revive Radio Fly before the end of the year.
Look forward to receiving your feedback once it is up and running. Regards, Musje"

Sent off a follow up question: "Will you still be via shortwave on 3915 kHz. and 5960 kHz.?"
Imagine that he will not be able to answer that himself, but I hope he will ask the radio engineer
there for more details. Certainly hope that Radio Fly will again be on SW.

In the past was able to hear both frequencies. In 2011, made a recording of one of my
Radio Fly receptions, posted at https://app.box.com/shared/o84cl8b6kt . ?

Was time for me to check-in again with Sylvia Kalau (The Cross Radio), at Pacific Mission
Aviation, over in Pohnpei Federated States of Micronesia. Asked if she had any plans to
reactivate The Cross Radio, via SW. Here is her quick reply to me:

"Hello Ron - Greetings to you from one of the few Covid 19 free countries!! I’m sorry but
we will not be broadcasting SW. The cost is too much for us. Thanks for your inquiry
and understanding."

This is about what I expected to hear from her. No surprise here. Back in May, 2015, the
station was hit by Typhoon Dolphin. Took them awhile to get FM back up again and running,
but getting SW up and running never worked out for them.

I also checked 3205 kHz today.

KOREA NORTH. 3205, Test tones (Maybe KCBS), 0906-1200, June 1.
Signal start from 0906.
After that, the test tones and signal off / on were repeated.

From 1003, the signal was intermittent and the test tones was repeated.
DPRK-music appeared in 1012 for a moment.
My audio (01:30 : 1011:00-1012:30) at https://radio.chobi.net/bbsasia/img/4536.mp3
I was convinced that it was North Korea at this timing.
From the information received so far, I think it is KCBS.
After 1030, no modulation continued, test tones, and the signal stopped at 1048.

The signal was started again in 1053.
No modulation continues, test tones around 1100.
-1102* Signal off!
*1107-1109* Signal again! and test tones.
*1113-1122* Signal again! and test tones.
My audio (02:00 : 1115:00-1117:00) at https://radio.chobi.net/bbsasia/img/4537.mp3

*1145-1149* Signal again! and test tones.
*1150-1200* Signal again! and test tones.

After that, the signal was not started for more than 10 minutes.
I finished the 3205kHz

audios available there, but no. The former RNS website is gone and seems to have become
part of the former Radio Free Sarawak site - https://radiofreesarawak.org/about . Also there
is a "RNS Archive" with some audio streaming from some RNS programs from May (no current
shows).

Radio Nyawa Sarawak is no longer present on Facebook. So a major change has occurred!

Have emailed RNS and seems the address I last used to correspond with them is still active,
so will wait and see if I get any explanation, but this is not looking good!

Re: Radio Vanuatu undergoing a schedule change - Ron Howard Jun 06 (Sat), 2020 22:47 UTC No.4539

June 6 - Heard on 11835 (harmonic), an hour earlier than normal (ex: 5040, formerly 0700*);
fairly readable, with interesting local programming in Bislama, French (first time I have heard
this here) and English. A very enjoyable SWLing session!

0606-0630 UTC: Phone interview in Bislama about sports.

0630-0644: "Half past five"; "Press Release," with very detailed information about applying for
an interest free loan from the Cyclone Harold Vanuatu National Provincial Fund, given in
French, Bislama and English; followed in English with message from school Principal Fred
Ottman, about the Aore Adventist Academy being relocated and giving students detailed
instructions for the move.

0644-0650: Weather conditions given in Bislama for many locations; followed by RV schedule
for coverage of the next session of parliament.

0650-0700: Nice indigenous music and singing.

0700-0718: "Six o'clock"; "Welcome to the Vanuatu National News Hour"; news and sports news
in Bislama.

Good number of SAs ("Radio Vanuatu, Vois Blong Yumi"); some light China QRM and a slight het.

My audio of French, at http://bit.ly/30eYzVl .

My audio of English, at http://bit.ly/2XB5xCg .

Re: Radio Vanuatu undergoing a schedule change - Ron Howard Jun 07 (Sun), 2020 08:31 UTC No.4540

June 7 (Sunday) - Heard on 11835 (harmonic), ex: 5040, from 0458-0658 UT. Mostly fair
reception; better than yesterday; light China QRM. Obviously my earlier posting about RV
being off the air on weekends is no longer true. Both 3945 and 7890 (harmonic) unusable
and 15780 (harmonic), with faint carrier (also unusable).

0458-0530: Non-stop religious songs ("One Day at a Time," etc.).

0530-0556: SA & time check; religious program (Bible story of John the Baptist), in Bislama.

0600+: "You are listening to Radio Vanuatu. Local time is five o'clock"; monologue about
"domestic violence" given in Bislama; program first aired on Wednesday and repeated
again on Sunday.

0630-0658: Identical programming as heard yesterday.

Radio Vanuatu (11835 harmonic), on June 8, with another day of very enjoyable reception
(0445-0545 UT). A few highlights:

0453: RV wishing a happy 40th anniversary of independence; choral National Anthem
("Yumi, Yumi, Yumi"). Independence Day will be July 30.

0457: RV airs very few commercial announcements, so very nice to catch one in English;
"Vanuatu's one-stop Auto Shop," selling "quality used cars, buses and trucks," "call us on
2 5 triple 4 . . . Carpenter Motors Vanuatu" ( http://carpentermotorsvanuatu.com/ ).

0503: After the news, weather in Bislama; "Severe weather warning . . . heavy rain . . .
thunderstorms . . . take extra care . . . coastal flooding . . . remain indoors, inside your house."

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(24) :: R. Vanuatu - Ron Howard Jun 08 (Mon), 2020 12:53 UTC No.4545
Radio Vanuatu monitoring June 8, with more changes.

11835 harmonic, well heard 0445-0545 UTC; fundamental frequency 3945 and harmonic 7890,
unusable; so RV again didn't use 5040 today.

7890 harmonic, heard 1010+ UTC; ?fundamental frequency 3945 blocked by Japan and harmonic
11835 only with China being heard; so RV didn't use 2485 today for their usual 1000-1100
broadcast.

3945, heard 1101-1104* UTC (after Japan went off the air 1101*); RV went off with instrumental
National Anthem.

Will be interesting to see what their permanent schedule will look like, if they ever decide on one.

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(24) :: Korea - VOP, VOH, VOF and KCBS - Ron Howard Jun 08 (Mon), 2020 13:23 UTC No.4546

June 8 (Monday) frequencies:

VOP: 3480 // 3910 // 3930 // 4450 // 6520 // 6600, at 0945.

VOH: 3985 // 4890 // 5995 // 6255 // 6350 // 9105, at 0942.

VOF: 5920, fair-good reception at 0949; no jamming on 6135 (Brazil heard on 6135.1).

KCBS (N. Korea), 3920, from 1001 till off at 1005* (VOP on 3910 & 3930 and Japan on 3925).
Seems KCBS is still testing on 3205; not heard at all June 8, with random checking 1045-1130. ?

Vanuatu signal (unusable) already on the air, on 11835 kHz. (harmonic). My local sunset
was at 0324 UT, which was about four hours before sunset at Port Vila. Some highlights:

0300-0327: Program entirely in French; signal improving a lot by 0324.

0327: Ad in English: "Vanuatu's one-stop Auto Shop . . . Carpenter Motors Vanuatu."

0330-0400: Program in English; playing songs and chatting about music.

0400: News and sports news in English; the Australian High Commission will be providing an
"additional 400 million vatu" for the Vanuatu response to COVIN-19, announced Sarah de Zoeten,
of the AHC, etc.

0410-0430: In English; continued playing pop songs; talking about an upcoming disaster relief
music concert.

Re: N. Korea abductions of Japanese - Ron Howard Jun 10 (Wed), 2020 03:43 UTC No.4548

Informative article titled - "Shigeru Yokota, 87, Dies; Fought for Return of Abducted
Daughter" ( http://bit.ly/3farM84 ), which tells the story of his never ending fight to get
his daughter (Megumi Yokota) back from N. Korea after she was kidnapped at 13.

He and his wife, along with other Japanese families of N. Korean abductions formed
the "Association of the Families of Victims Kidnapped by North Korea" (AFVKN), which
also works with the "National Association for the Rescue of Japanese Kidnapped by
North Korea" (NARKN) and they are a coalition based throughout Japan. Their purpose
is for the return to Japan of those persons kidnapped by N. Korea for the purpose of
forcing the abductees to teach N. Korean spies the Japanese language. ?

The "Investigation Commission on Missing Japanese Probably Related to North Korea"
(COMJAN), is the sister organization of NARKN, that produces the daily SW "Shiokaze"
programs.

More info about NARKN and COMJAN at http://www.sukuukai.jp/NARKN/item_34.html .

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(24) :: R. Vanuatu - Ron Howard Jun 10 (Wed), 2020 21:45 UTC No.4549
Another outstanding day!!!

Radio Vanuatu, on June 10 (Wednesday) with an especially readable signal on 11835 (harmonic)
from 0508 to 0729 UT; even though heard in Bislama, was very easy to follow the main points of
what was being said, due to the many English words used. Seems strange to me that I can hear
this second harmonic on a daily basis, with such a good signal. How is this possible? Some highlights:

0508: Weather for the different provinces.

0515+: Program "Inside Sports"; talking about "football."

0600-0630: An educational training "Health" program aired at the same time Mon-Wed-Fri; ended
with several phone numbers to call with questions or to email in.

0659: The usual ad in English - "Vanuatu's one-stop Auto Shop . . . Carpenter Motors Vanuatu."

0700-0723: News and sports news (interview with head coach of the "Golden Star" football team, etc.).

0724+: The usual call-in program, today with discussion about "COVID-19 Social Distancing."

Re: Radio Nyawa Sarawak is no longer, is now "Radio Free Sarawak," with "10th Anniversary Revival" - Ron Howard Jun 17 (Wed), 2020 01:30 UTC No.4561

Radio Nyawa Sarawak (ex 11890 kHz.) is no longer on SW and no longer an separate
organization.

Now it has reverted back to being "Radio Free Sarawak" (RFS) and is only available
online and via WhatsApp links.
?
On June 15, I checked 11890, for what their website indicated would be their reactivation,
but was clearly absent. Now the website has been completely updated and re-designed.
No longer any reference to SW, but instead has new RFS programs via audio streaming.
Now only IDing as RFS. "Tune in online at - radiofreesarawak.org - and distribute
links via smartphone." https://radiofreesarawak.org/ .

The first time I ever heard RFS on SW was back in April, 2011, when they were via Koror-Palau,
on 15420 kHz. Certainly I will miss catching them on SW!

Re: Radio Vanuatu - extensive summary - June 17-21 - Ron Howard Jun 22 (Mon), 2020 02:27 UTC No.4564
Thank you, Komatsubara, for your kind birthday wishes! Ron

Here on the California coast, I'm daily having fair to good reception of Radio Vanuatu's?
third harmonic on 11835 (3 x 3945 kHz.). Heard daily with?very consistent reception,?
making for the most enjoyable listening. Am spending a considerable amount of time
monitoring this, as one never knows?when the transmitter might be adjusted to eliminate?
this strong harmonic. Am providing this detailed report in the hope that it will motivate?
others to?attempt to hear this interesting station and if unable to actually hear the local?
programming, one might still be able to catch their wonderful island?music. Virtually all
the programs this week were in Bislama, except where noted otherwise. Frequent SAs?for
"Radio Vanuatu, Vois Blong Yumi." ? ?

June 17 - Radio Vanuatu, unlike yesterday's coverage of parliament, today there was none;?
listening from 0511 to 0730; strangely CNR2 was off the air today, but instead heard three?
very brief segments with FireDragon music jamming underneath RV; very unusual. A few?highlights:

0545-0600: Song "Happy Birthday," sung in English, followed by birthday dedications.

0600-0630: Listeners calling in with dedications; playing pop songs in English (Whitney?Houston
- "I Will Always Love You," Tina Turner - "It Takes Two,"?etc.). My audio at?http://bit.ly/3fCEZGW .

0630-0635: Message to any persons with interests in the administered property of the late?Robert . . .
of Port Vila; given in both Bislama and French.

0635+: Pop Pacific Islands music.

0700: SA and time ("six o'clock"); "Welcome to Radio Vanuatu's National News Hour"; many?items about
parliament and 40th anniversary of independence.

June 18 - From 0504 to 0525, nice Pacific Islands pop songs during a break from parliament?(My audio at http://bit.ly/3fLG0g0 ); 0525+, live coverage of the?many speakers in parliament.?Today light CNR2 QRM
was back again.

June 19 - From 0418 to 0530. Pop song (Eagles - "Hotel California," etc.); 0432-0501, parliament?
"called to order" and series of many short speeches, till 0501,?when gavel sounded for parliament?
to take a break (my audio at http://bit.ly/3dnI5Ni ); 0505, "5 after 4," weather report followed
by DJ?with music program;?wished everyone a "happy Port Vila Day . . . ?enjoy the weekend" (My audio?
at http://bit.ly/30ZRJU1 ). ? ? ? ?
?
June 20 (Saturday) - From 0420 to 0620; almost no China QRM:

0420-0456: "Voice of Province(?) program, Radio Vanuatu," which is broadcast Mon/Sat, followed by
pop Pacific Islands music. My audio at http://bit.ly/3dmylmC . ?

0530-0600: Program "Inside Sports," with a long phone interview about "football"; have heard this?
program several times in the past, so is a regular show.

0600+: "Young person's program"; have heard this program several times in the past, so a regular?show.

June 21 (Sunday) - Mostly religious (Christian) programs from 0308-0408 & 0500-0630, with?summertime
QRN (static):

0308-0330: Preaching the "word of God," in English.

0330-0400: Religious songs ("In The Sweet By-and-By," etc.)

0500-0530: Eclectic selection of songs (Genesis [Phil Collins] - "Invisible Touch," Mac Davis -?
"Stop And Smell The Roses," and Pacific Island pop songs)

0530-0557: Religious program in Bislama, with many words in English; Bible stories for children?
(Herod's daughter, Salome and John the Baptist).?My audio at http://bit.ly/314p53W .

0600: Program about sexual abuse and domestic violence. ?

June 22 - RV on 3945, with greatly extended broadcast; Japan on same frequency with the
usual 1101* UT; instead of RV signing off at 1104* as they recently had been doing, instead had
the National Anthem till 1107 and stayed on the air after that; non-stop music; the usual RV
signature song ("You Are The Only One," by the Black Brothers) at 1119, 1136 and 1148,
plus at 1300, 1312 and 1329. My local sunrise was at 1249 UT, so the 1300+ reception was

KOREA SOUTH. Voice of Freedom, on June 22, noted on 5920, from 0954 through 1331,
heard with only a strong carrier (no audio). Komatsubara Hiroyuki ("Now On The Radio DX")
also noted no modulation later at 2315 (June 22). ?

June 23 - VOF, first day on a new frequency of 6045 (ex: 5920); at 1000, with program “Aneun
geos-i him-ida” (Knowing is power), with theme song “See Ya,“ sung by Atomic Kitten; fair.

June 22 (Monday) observed frequencies:

VOP: 3480 // 3910 // 3925 (Japan QRM) // 4450 // 6520 // 6600, at 0951.

VOH: only 3985 // 5995 // 6350, at 0946; late starting with these additional frequencies
4880 // 6245 // 9095, at 1003.

Interesting to note that on June 22, Komatsubara Hiroyuki ("Now On The Radio DX") was
the first one to note CNR1 on the new frequency of 6255. Perhaps in error?

June 23, I also noted CNR1 on 6255, at 1012. Rather a strange frequency, as Sound of Hope
(Taiwan) on 6215 // 6230 // 6280, were not jammed today by CNR1. So why 6255?

Hallo! Ron-san and Komathubara

Thank you for VOF's QSY information.
I confirmed it, too.

KOREA SOUTH. 6045 (ex:5920), Voice of Freedom, 1230-1301 UTC, on June 23.
VOF on 6045 kHz, with program "Maeil geudaewa“
(Everyday with you) was being broadcast after 1230 when I started checking.
North Korean pip Jamming started from 1244.
In my location, pip jamming was strong and it became very difficult to hear VOF programs.
At 1300, with program “Aneungeos-i him-ida” (Knowing is power) started.
My audio at https://radio.chobi.net/DX/bbs/img/4572.mp3 .
Pip jamming from North Korea was quick after the VOF move.

Hi Amano - Wonder if you were hearing the start of the N. Korea jamming for?Shiokaze
that was about to start on 6040 kHz. (1300-1400 UT)?

Would be?very unusual for N. Korea jamming to actually find the new VOF frequency on
the first?day of operation.

Warm regards,

Hi Ron-san

I forgot that there is a "Shiokaze" on 6040 kHz.
I received North Korean pip jamming on 6040 kHz side.
Certainly, it is rare for North Korea to detect QSY quickly.
Thank you for telling me.

I checked 6045 kHz again.

KOREA SOUTH. 6045 (ex:5920), Voice of Freedom, 1600-1603 UTC, on June 23.
VOF's one-hour program, "Maeil geudaewa“ (Everyday with you) has started.
There is no pip jamming from North Korea.
It's a very fair reception.

VANUATU. 11835 (third harmonic), on June 23, from 0231 to 0505; mostly fair-good reception,
with summertime QRN (static); my local sunset was at 0329 UT. Highlights:

0231-0330: One hour in French; nice French ballads; ToH news.

0330-0408: In English; segment with pop songs; interview with owner of a car wash in Vanuatu
who employs COVID-19 laid-off ?workers; ToH news and weather (Japan offers financial assistance
to Vanuatu, presidential elections in Kiribati, etc.).

0408-0436: "Pacific Beat" program of "ABC Radio Australia," with Jordan Fennell; has been years
since I last heard a RA program on SW; items about the presidential elections in Kiribati, COVID-19 in
PNG; played The Beach Boys - "God Only Knows"; weather; "News from across the region." Most
enjoyable and nicely readable! My audio at http://bit.ly/3etp6lL .

0436-0437: Back to local RV announcer in English; went into programming in Bislama. ?

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(24) :: - pasar malam Jun 27 (Sat), 2020 19:42 UTC No.4582
Dear Mr.Ron Howard
Also I am struggling to check the pros of VOF.
Even here in Japan, it seems a little difficult to catch the signal enough to enjoy
the program contents.

Since it comes with deep and long term fading and sometimes with NK origin
jammers.

Now it's 4:30 JST and I am enjoying the programs on 6045kHz.
I dare say that the condx of today seems better one, but not the best.
Signal itself is not strong enough and fading comes with deep and long term.

The female and the male announcer talks on traveling in South Korea.

The other day, I found that with Kiwi SDR com. public, I could catch the signal
very strong and even enjoy the contents of the programs - please check it with
Japanese DXer -

0-30 MHZ SDR, JP7FSO, FUKUSHIMA, JAPAN
http://jp7fso.proxy.kiwisdr.com:8073

His facilities are very nice - he built the antennas on the hill and they give us
wonderful listening condx.

It might be wrong to introduce things like this, but I don't hesitate to tell my
good experience on Dxing.

I hope you will have a nice catch !

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(24) :: - Ron Howard Jun 28 (Sun), 2020 06:18 UTC No.4583
Hi Pasar,

Thank you for your message. Appreciate hearing from you, with your suggestion.

All of my DXing is done while sitting in my car at Asilomar State Beach. I very much like
my hands-on approach to listening and have no desire for listening via a remote receiver.
In all my years of DXing (50), I have never used a remote radio. For me, the thrill is to
catch the SW signals here in California. That is the challenge! I know many people enjoy
listening via remote sites, but it is just not my cup of tea :))

Also I have no Internet access at the beach.

Thanks again for thinking of me. Appreciate the thought!

Best regards,

Ron

Re: CNR17 - Language lessons in Russian and English - Ron Howard Jul 04 (Sat), 2020 15:36 UTC No.4603
CHINA. 9630 // 11630, CNR17, at 1220 UTC, on June 27 (Saturday). Start of their
Russian language lesson; series of repeating words; rather poor due to aggravating
background whistling and light music throughout the lesson; this station is usually only
in the Kazakh language; timing varies, as on June 28, Russian lesson started at 1230
(again with the whistling in the background), till music at 1248; reception started poor
and steadily improved up to fair by 1300. ?

CHINA. 9630, CNR17, on July 4 (Saturday), from 1228 to 1301 UTC. Language lesson
in English; is easy to tell when they are having a language lesson here (whether Russian
or English), as there is distinctive whistling and humming in the background, which makes
it rather difficult to clearly understand all the words. Do not know what their schedule is for
these lessons, but I believe they are not carried every day. My audio at http://bit.ly/3eZ78b7 .
My local sunrise was at 1254 UTC.

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(24) :: - Ron Howard Jul 06 (Mon), 2020 15:36 UTC No.4607
CHINA. 6255, CNR1, at 1138, on July 6. Very strong signal; still unknown as to why they
are here? Sound of Hope (Taiwan) was clear of any jamming on 6215 // 6230 // 6280.

KOREA NORTH/SOUTH. 6045, Voice of Freedom, on 1119+, on July 6. Totally blocked by
super strong white noise jamming from N. Korea. The former enjoyable reception of VOF
has come to an end for the time being!

July 6 (Monday) anomaly for VOP and VOH, as only one frequency changed from last
Monday:

Voice of the People: 3475 (this is the only change today; noted with good reception!)
// 3905 (ham QRM) // 3930 // 4450 // 6520 (continues to be unusually good - not jammed)
// 6600, at 1117.

Echo of Hope - VOH: 3980 // 4885 // 5990 // 6250 // 6348 // 9100, at 1114. All the same
frequencies as last Monday.

KCBS (N. Korea) silent on 2850, 3205 and 3250, at 1120. Still looking for a new frequency?

VANUATU. 3945, R. Vanuatu, on July 6, with random checks at 1136, 1203, 1211 and 1305.
At these times, heard the usual "You Are The Only One" song; continues to be heard daily
well past their former 1104*.

VIETNAM. 6165, VOV4 (the radio division for ethnic minorities), 1204-1300, on July 6.
Very rare reception! Normally the frequency is totally covered by the good signal of CNR6,
which was off the air today; no trace of any signal here from Myanmar; playing indigenous
music, with chanting/singing; language Vietnamese or similar; weak signal, but definitely
them. Needs more monitoring to find out if the CNR6 absence is for more than just a day?

Re: CNR17 - Weekend language lesson in English - Ron Howard Jul 12 (Sun), 2020 03:44 UTC No.4619
CHINA. 9630, CNR17, on July 11 (Saturday), from 1235 to 1305. The weekend language?lesson
scheduled for approximately 1230-1300;?in English and with Kazakh(?) language;?multi-language
intro ("Hi, Hello, N? h?o [Chinese for "Hello"], How are you?," etc.); into?phrases in?English
("I have a pen. She has a pen. I had a pen. She had a pen. I will have?a pen. She will have a
pen. Do you have a pen?, My mother?has a book. My father has a?car. Does he have a car?," etc.);
with a terrible format for a language lesson, as there is a?very prominent, non-stop, self-QRMing
whistling and humming throughout the entire program;?it's not really in the background, but is
too strong. During weekdays?perhaps the lessons are?at a much later time (1500+?). My local
sunrise was at 1258 UT. My audio is at http://bit.ly/2OiTwfm . ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

6165 kHz. - On July 13, interesting developments here; yesterday had definite CNR6 here
(// 9420) on the air again after being silent for about six day; today surprised to find CNR6
was again absent; heard VOV4 from 1215 to 1315; in Vietnamese or dialect and with unique
indigenous chanting; only a few brief minutes when I thought I heard an extremely weak
Myanmar underneath, but not a negative factor to VOV4 reception, which was better than
usual. Nice to hear this unique station broadcasting to their ethnic minorities. My audio of
chanting at http://bit.ly/30bkzyu .
