Ron Howard Oct 20 (Wed), 2021 13:58 UTC No.4970 CHINA[non-log]. 6200, Voice of Jinling. Thanks very much to an alert from Ralph Perry, back on Oct 14,
that VOJL was off the air; today (Oct 20) also noted them clearly silent at 1303 UT; in the past VOJL
started about 1230, with their well known double sign on.
Now I am only hearing Xizang PBS (Tibet - Lhasa), with no QRM; // 4920 // 6130.

Ron Howard Oct 31 (Sun), 2021 16:45 UTC No.4974 Hi Amano,
Thank you for the beautiful Mt. Fiji picture. I always enjoy seeing photos of it!
Overall good conditions today (Oct 31).
VOJL (6200) heard later than usual today. Didn't log the time, but must have been about 1250 UT or so.
Now starting well past their former sign on time!
Today, new Shiokaze frequencies: 7250 // 7335, for 13-14 UT.
No Voice of Freedom heard; ex 5920 and not on 6045. Where?
Myanmar (5915) in real trouble now; CRI noted 1000+, covering MR. Whereas 9730 had fairly good
reception 1020+. My audio with one minute of music and one with announcers attached.
Myanmar (5985) started after 1100, but was blocked by strong NHK on frequency (1100+).
Echo of Hope - VOH, 3985 // 4880 // 5995 // 6245 // 6350 // 9095, at 1142 with the weekend language
lesson of reading a "Harry Potter" story. Weekdays (1123-1152) is no longer a language lesson, but instead
non-stop pop songs in English. Will change frequencies tomorrow.
"Yunnan Radio International" (6035), decent today; 1130, multi-language SAs; 1230, no SA.
AIR Jeypore (5040) with AIR IS at 1129, extremely weak underneath R. Vanuatu open carrier (RV NA audio
ended at 1102, but xmtr still on hours after that).

Since Sept 27, the 49m band has been free of the three N. Korea super white noise jamming frequencies: against Echo of
Hope - VOH (weekly alternating between 5990-5995-6000); KBS Hanminjok Bangsong 1 (6015); and on 6045. Has been great to
now hear VOH, KBS and VOF (now on 6045 [ex 5920]) without the usually strong white noise jamming.
Nov 3 - KBS Hanminjok Bangsong 1, on 6015, at 0744, with the station's singing "K-B-S" jingle; as usual now clear of white
noise jamming.
Nov 3 - Echo of Hope - VOH new frequencies for this week; 3980 // 4885 // 5990 // 6250 // 6348 // 9100, at 0727. Pleased
to find they have returned to their regular weekday language lesson, instead of the recent non-stop music played during
this time period; start of the audio feed from a TV program called "Wang cho bo yeong-eo" (Beginner's English); intro &
exit theme song is the "Party Will Come Alive" by Wizardz Of Oz (with Ruben Martinez); the usual intro with announcer
saying "English trainer" and gives his name ("Mayu"), then the woman announcer says her name ("Mini"), then they both
say in English, "Good morning everybody"; "Is this your first visit?", "No, I have been here before," "What are your
symptoms?", "I have a fever and I have a chill as well," etc. This program will be repeated again today at 1127 and
1527 UT.
Nov 3 - Voice of Freedom now on 6045 (ex: 5920), at 0635 UT, first noted the VOF open carrier; audio started at 0753 UT,
with details corresponding to those reported by Amano (Japan) on Nov 1 (VOF's first day on 6045) - starting music at 0753,
gong rung three times, VOF SA, Republic of Korea national anthem, VOF FM frequency announcement, VOF station's singing
jingle, 0500 PM KST announcement, time pips and at 0800, the start of the program "Hamkke tteonaneun eum-ag-yeohaeng"
(Let's go music together). My unedited ten minute audio is at http://bit.ly/3mGCWb8 . Thanks very much to Amano for his
ongoing assistance with these Korean stations!
Unfortunately VOF's ex 5920 continued today to be jammed by NK with a pulsating noise jamming (not the white noise
jamming). Suspect it is only a matter of time before it moves up to 6045 and will probably continue to be on from
about 0700 to ending sometime after 1100 (cut off time varies a lot!).

CHINA. 6200, Voice of Jinling, *1224* *1225+ UT, Nov 4. The usual double sign on; before VOJL, had fair reception
of Xizang PBS (Tibet - Lhasa), but VOJL mostly blocking Tibet reception after 1224. VOJL sign on time varies a lot!
KOREA SOUTH. 6045, Voice of Freedom, on Nov 4, with good reception (no N. Korea jamming):
1130-1200 UT: Program "Aneun geos-i him-ida" (Knowledge Is Power).
1200: A single tone, "Jayuuisolibangsong-eseo bam 9 (ahob) sileul allyeodeulibnida" (Voice of Freedom has

PAPUA NEW GUINEA[non-log]. Checking again for any activity on 3260 & 3325 (both NBC) and 7325 (WRL), but all found

1023-1033: Island music/singing.
1033-1042: Preaching in Bislama.

Re: VOH with North Korean super jamming on 4885 kHz. -
Amano Nov 07 (Sun), 2021 11:20 UTC No.4981 I can't hear the VOH because the North Korean super jamming is on 4885 kHz that hasn't been jammed for many years.
1100 UT, Nov 7. I checked the status of North Korean super jamming.
3910(VOP), 3930(VOP), 3980(VOH), 4885(VOH),
6250(VOH), 6348(VOH), 6520(VOP), 6600(VOP).
North Korean super jamming cannot be confirmed at the following frequencies.
5990 / VOH (No Jamming).
6015 / KBS (A pulsating noise jamming from NK).
6045 / VOF (Until 1100 UT, a pulsating noise jamming from NK, after that no jamming).
9100 / VOH (No Jamming).
Did you change the super jamming configuration?

Re: VOH with North Korean super jamming on 4885 kHz. -
Ron Howard Nov 08 (Mon), 2021 11:47 UTC No.4982 Thanks to a timely tip from Amano (Japan), I found at 1010 UT, on Nov 8, that N. Korea's super white noise jamming
is now on 4885, totally blocking Brazil. Probably only a temporary situation, as Echo of Hope - VOH is on 4890 for
this week and the jamming should eventually move up to that frequency. Time will tell as to what develops here.
It was on back on Sept 27, that I noted N. Korea had stopped broadcasting their super white noise jamming in the 49m
band (weekly alternating from 5990-5995-6000, as well as 6015 and also 6045). Had to wonder what was happening? Why the
sudden change and what were they going to do in the future? Now we know they plan to jam Echo of Hope - VOH, as they
alternate weekly between 4880-4885-4890. During the years that I have monitored VOH, had never heard 4880-4885-4890
jammed before by NK; yes, blocked at times by OTH radar QRM, but not jammed.
Nov 8 (Monday), Echo of Hope - VOH frequencies for this week: 3985 (CNR2 QRM) // 4890 (clear of the 4885 jamming,
but probably only a matter of time before the jamming moves up to 4890) // 5995 // 6255 // 6350 // 9105, at 0946 UT,
with pop song (Chicago - "Hard To Say I'm Sorry").
VOP, at 0950 UT on 3910 // 3930 // 4450 // 6520 // 6600; while 3480 remains silent.
Voice of Freedom, at 0956, on 6045; almost fair with moderate NK pulsating jamming (not super white noise jamming).
KBS Hanminjok Bangsong 1, at 0955, on 6015; fair with weak NK pulsating jamming (not super white noise jamming) underneath.
Amano - Thank you very much! Appreciate your alert!!

KOREA SOUTH. Echo of Hope - VOH with anomaly. From 1105+ UT, rather strange to find their two frequencies

Echo of Hope - VOH, this week again with two frequencies silent (alternate 5990-5995-6000 & 9095-9100-9105); while
3990 // 4885 (killing Brazil reception) // 6250 // 6355 were all on the air and not jammed on their new alternate
frequencies today at 0920 UT, but the next day (Nov 16) all were jammed by N. Korea; so Brazil (4885), was doubly
killed!
Voice of the People, this week the same three frequencies were silent today - 3930, 3480 & 4450; while 3910 // 6520
// 6600 all active today, at 0925 UT. Interesting to note Nov 16, that 3930 & 4450, were briefly heard again for a
short time about 1043, but didn't stay on for long.
Voice of Freedom (6045). Am happy to report that the N. Korean pulsating jamming (formerly 0700-1100 UT) is now
totally silent, leaving very good reception here; Nov 14, at 0900 UT - time tone; station jingle "jinsil-e soli,
huimang-e soli, jayu-e soli bangsong!" (Voice of truth, Voice of hope, Voice of Freedom Broadcast), "Jayu-e
solibangsong-eseo ohu 6 (yeoseos) sileul allyeodeulibnida" ("Voice of Freedom announces 6pm"), "Bodo gwangjang"

MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, 1239-1253 UT, Nov 17 (Wednesday). Is always a pleasure to hear the comical
misadventures of "Tom"; this identical show has been heard by me four different times since 2017; "Say It
In English" program with dialogue between "Mr. Harris" and "Tom," who wants Tom to take the morning 7:00
train to Manchester; "The meeting is very important. Don't miss the train"; Tom works for a company that
"makes some of the finest clocks and watches in the world," but he is "never on time for anything"; he
missed the train and then rushes to take a taxi to the airport to catch the 8:00 plane to Manchester;
nicely readable today.

Ron Howard Nov 19 (Fri), 2021 13:01 UTC No.4988
Recently Echo of Hope - VOH had not been heard on their regular alternating weekly frequencies of 9095-9100-9105.
But today (Nov 19) for the first time I was instead hearing the programming of the Voice of the People on 9100 kHz.

MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, 1235-1335 UT, Nov 23 (Tuesday).
Very good reception here, too.
Fortunately, there is no North Korean super Jamming around 5995 kHz and 6015 kHz.
After 1235 UT, a Myanmar song program by two DJs, male and female.
After 1300 UT, it was a Myanmar ethnic music program by a male DJ.
At 1328 UT, music like SJ for less than a minute. It sounds like singing "~ kHz" in Burmese lyrics.
After that, female announcements, IS, gong rung, and male talks followed.

Hi Amano,
Was very interested to read your logs and to hear your audio clip. In the past I have also heard the same identical
"Say It In English" program.
"5985, Myanmar Radio, 1253-1305, Sept 10, 2021. Friday edition of "Say It In English"; first heard this identical
show back on Feb 19, 2018; dialogue at a "sales conference," "May I introduce myself?", "Let me introduce myself,"
"How do you do?", "Nice to meet you," "May I introduce Tom Carter?", "Pleased to meet you," "Please call me Tom,"
"All right Tom, we will," etc.; a different show than last Wednesday (Sept 8); these are the only two days I know
they are on the air. (Ron - Calif.)"
Regarding the singing station jingle - Yes, it is very distinctive and is often played. They give three "kilohertz"
frequencies. Also the jingle has an English ID ("..?.. town Radio"). Dave Valko thought it sounded like "Mothtown
Radio," while I tend to think it perhaps is "Small town Radio," but am not positive! On your audio recording, "..?..
town Radio," is at 0:48.
On my audio, "..?.. town Radio" is at 0:42 - https://app.box.com/s/1h4ts48rthxqqzrvbiliwxgphlm1gc6s .

Thank you for following me.

The really short music was a Myanmar radio station single, wasn't it?
Certainly it announces three frequencies on the song.
I checked how to read Burmese numbers and listen again.
I heard the following frequencies.

My audio, 00:30-00:34.
There are language lesson programs and music programs, so listening to Myanmar radio on 5985 kHz around 1300 UT is a lot of fun.
Recently, part of the 49mb North Korean super jamming has disappeared and it is very easy to hear.
My audio below is the ending of a Myanmar music program program by two male and female DJs and the beginning of a Myanmar ethnic music program by a male DJ.

Amano - Excellent work determining the three Myanmar Radio frequencies. I had often wondered what they were.
Well done!
AUSTRALIA. A Thanksgiving Day treat (Nov 25)! Radio 4KZ (5055) with an extended broadcast and above average reception
(monitoring 1105-1205 UT); recently I had been observing their cut off about 1000. Nice selections of songs today: The
Bangles - "Manic Monday," Jimmy Cliff - "You Can Get It If You Really Want," Petula Clark - "My Love," Phil Collins -
"One More Night," Tom Jones - "I'll Never Fall In Love Again," Stevie Wonder - "I Just Called To Say I Love You,"
Creedence Clearwater Revival - "I Heard It Through The Grapevine," etc.
BTW - Voice of Indonesia (3325) returned to the air today (1100+) with their usual carrier and no audio; it had been
silent this month.

Re: Australia - Unique Radio (120 watts) log and E-QSL -
Ron Howard Nov 27 (Sat), 2021 05:20 UTC No.4999
AUSTRALIA. 5035-USB, Unique Radio, on Nov 26; listening from 1025 UT; a very rare day that I
actually had some faint audio with announcer and music, which did not sound like pop music/
songs, but not quite strong enough to describe it in detail; at 1101 heard time pips; still on the air
at 1122, but rechecked at 1140 and found the station was clearly off the air. As Glenn also noted,
this frequency was silent yesterday.
Was excited to be able to catch any audio and certainly this was an outstanding day for Australian
reception, as Radio 4KZ (5055 kHz.) was doing fairly well till they cut off about 1000 UT (unlike
yesterday's extended broadcasting past 1205+). Today around 0933, heard the Beatles - "All You
Need Is Love," Wham - "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go," etc. It is not often I can hear 4KZ well
enough to easily ID the songs.
Am very grateful to Tim Gaynor for checking on my Unique Radio details of reception and responded
with E-QSL ( http://bit.ly/3DWZDOz ) and
"I double checked DJ Key's file of On this day 80's and right on the end he does have time pips and
as the show was a minute over would tally. I'm not sure why? So conditions may be improving.
You would be doing well if you could hear us on 5035 kHz USB.
Also I noticed DJ Key (British announcer/DJ) plays an old fashioned sounding song , ' Together we'll
be ok......' and then an instrumental and website details with an American voice. Sounds like it was us
after all Ron."

KOREA SOUTH. Monday (Nov 29) observations:
Echo of Hope - VOH - This week on 3980 // 4885 // 5990 // 6250 // 6348 // 9100; at 0851 UT;
weekday EBS (Educational Broadcasting System) produced English news and Korean. N. Korea jamming
is getting smarter, as at 0810, the jamming was on ex 4880, but by 0851, jamming had already moved
up to block VOH on 4885. They have learned that Monday is when VOH changes frequencies!
Voice of the People, this week unable to confirm; only some frequencies seemed to have a carrier,
but no audio detected. Will have to wait and see what happens during the week. Nov 30, only able
to make out audio on 6520 at 1115 UT, while other frequencies seemed to just have a carrier; 3480
continues to be off the air.
Voice of Freedom (6045). Continues to be free of the former super jamming from N. Korea; at 0900 UT
with the usual format (single time tone; station jingle "jinsil-e soli, huimang-e soli, jayu-e soli
bangsong!" [Voice of truth, Voice of hope, Voice of Freedom Broadcast], "Jayu-e solibangsong-eseo
ohu 6 [yeoseos] sileul allyeodeulibnida" ["Voice of Freedom announces 6pm"], "Bodo gwangjang" [News Plaza]).
Nov 30 - KBS Hanminjok Bangsong 1, on 6015, continues to be free of the former white noise jamming from NK;
at 1159 UT, two frequencies given; time pips; audio feed from the TV KBS news at 9 (1200 UT = 9:00 PM KST);
SA after each news item as "K-B-S News"; these news programs are posted daily to YouTube (today's show - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgdGTQv5tV8 ); QRM from a much weaker station, probably PBS Xinjiang.
SOLOMON ISLANDS[non-log]. 5020, nor 9545, SIBC. Continues to be silent when checking through 1010 UT, on
Nov 29. On Nov 30, not heard through 1105.
U S A. 1710-AM, KHMB, 0756 UT, Nov 29. Listening to my favorite one watt station up the coast at Half Moon
Bay (Calif.); weak, but songs IDable; Barry White - "My First My Last My Everything," etc.; very light QRM
from the Travis AFB emergency announcements also on frequency.

KBS Hanminjok Bangsong 1, on?6015, continues to be free of the usual strong white noise jamming from NK,?but instead
has light jamming heard?underneath, at 1150 UT.
CDNK North Korean Democratization Committee, on 6085, with *1400, on Dec 23. Heard just after the first day?closing

Pyongyang BS,?3320?//?6160, both fair.
KCBS Pyongyang, 3250 // 3959, both fair.

Ron Howard Jan 04 (Tue), 2022 05:23 UTC No.5009 AUSTRALIA. 5055, Radio 4KZ, on Jan 3, from 0915 till cut off at 0957:05* UT; above average reception, as I
was easily able to ID most of the pop songs; Bee Gees "Words," Van Morrison - "Brown Eyed Girl," Beatles -
"All You Need Is Love," Bertie Higgins - "Casablanca" [brief audio attached], Go West - "King Of Wishful
Thinking," Tears For Fears - "Everybody Wants To Rule The World," etc.; some commercial announcements.
Tomorrow should cut off at 0957:00* UT.
CHINA. 4940, at 1000 UT, Jan 3, still with the "This is the Voice of Taiwan Strait News Radio" SA in English;
not // 4900.
6060 // 7225, Sichuan PBS-2, 1030 UT, on Jan 3. Pleased to hear them with the usual multi-language SAs -
"Sichu?n minzu gu?ngbo, Sichuan Ethnic Radio"; fair reception on both frequencies.
KOREA SOUTH. 9095, Echo of Hope - VOH, 0545-0600* UT, on Jan 1. New Year's show of all pop songs in English
(Britney Spears - "Oops!...I Did It Again," etc.); fair-good. At *0600 UT, heard VOH start on 5995 // 6350.
VOH, 5995 // 6350, at 0724, Jan 2 (Sunday). Start of the weekend only English lesson, with reading of a "Harry
Potter" story.
Jan 3 (Monday) observations:
Echo of Hope - VOH: 3980 // 4885 // 5990 // 6250 // 6348 // 9100, at 1005 UT; these frequencies should be good
through Jan 9.
Voice of the People: 3910 // 3930 // 3480 (best reception!) // 4450 // 6520 // 6600, at 1010 UT; these frequencies
do not change.
ZAMBIA. 5915, R. One/ZNBC1, 0247-0415 UT, Jan 1. The usual New Year's Day special broadcast; countless phone
conversations and playing a lot of nice African music; 0357, very pleased to hear my favorite "Happy Christmas/
Happy New Year" African song again; reception fair, but not as good as heard on Jan 1, 2015 (my 2015 audio - http://goo.gl/vmeGn0 ). A program I always enjoy!

line reception (local Monterey sunrise at 1520 UT and Addis Ababa sunset at 1518 UT); announcers (no phone
conversations today) and HOA music; briefly off the air at 1453, but came right back; recently, like today,

has announced 9pm); singing station jingle - "jinsil-e soli, huimang-e soli, jayu-e soli bangsong!" (Voice of Truth,
Voice of Hope, Voice of Freedom broadcast); "Bodo gwangjang" (News Plaza). My audio is at https://bit.ly/3pVipRL .

with the theme music by South Korean electronic group Idiotape - "Melodie" ("6 synthesizers and 1 drummer formed
an electronic band Idiotape to play synth playing rock music" -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emoadwiK4TM&feature=youtu.be ). My audio is at http://bit.ly/3eTiejC .
Observations on Jan 6 (Thursday):
Echo of Hope - VOH, 3980 // 4885 // 5990 // 6250 // 6348 // 9100, early reception at 0724 UT; start of the weekday
audio feed from a TV program called "Wang cho bo yeong-eo" (translated into English - Beginner's English); intro &
exit theme song is the "Party Will Come Alive" by Wizardz Of Oz (with Ruben Martinez); the usual intro with announcer
saying "English trainer" and gives his name ("Mayu"), then the woman announcer says her name ("Mini"), then they both
say in English, "Good morning everybody." "I am starving. I am hungry. Do you want to go to a convenience store?";
as it was so early, reception was rather weak.
Voice of Freedom, noted starting at *0753 UT [*1653 JST]; first day back on alternate frequency of 6045 (ex 5920),
heard along with N. Korea super jamming currently operating here. A very poor frequency assignment!
Thanks again to Amano (Japan) for his wonderful ongoing guidance with the VOF details and program names!

Re: Voice of Freedom back on 6045 kHz & program schedule. -
Amano Jan 10 (Mon), 2022 20:05 UTC No.5013 Hi! Ron-san
Thank you for checking the VOF program and back on 6045 kHz (ex 5920).
That was very helpful for me.
Once the VOF program schedule is known to some extent, I will be posted on the VOF thread.
Please wait for a little while.
Here's what I'm currently aware of in the VOF schedule:
1, There is no new program.
2, There is no change in the broadcast time of "Bodo gwangjang" (News Plaza).
* The time announcement has not changed.
3, The only difference between the programs on weekdays and weekends is the 10-minute drama of the same weekday “Kkumkkuneun cheongchungeug“ (Dreaming youth drama) and weekend “Salang-i neomchineun ulijib“ (My home full of love) as last year.
4, There is a time zone in which one program spreads across 00 minutes.
5, “Ulisoli hanmadang“ (Our sound festival) will be a 15-minute program.
* Last year was a 10-minute program.
6, "Hanla-eseo Baegdukkaji" (From Halla to Baekdu) will be a 25-minute program.
* Last year was a 30-minute program.
KOREA SOUTH. 6045 (ex 5920), Voice of Freedom. 0350-0403* UT, Jan 8 (Saturday).
The influence of North Korean super jamming is terrible!
I was able to confirm the opening of “Salang-i neomchineun ulijib“ (My home full of love).

KOREA SOUTH. Observations on Jan 10:
Echo of Hope - VOH: 3985 // 4890 // 5995 // 6255 // 6350 // 9105, at 1210 UT; these changes should be
good through Jan 16 (Sunday).
Voice of the People - no change from last week; 3910 // 3930 // 3480 (continues to be the best reception!)
// 4450 // 6520 // 6600, at 1215 UT.
Voice of Freedom, 6045, at 1220 UT; heard along with N. Korea super jamming on frequency, while ex 5920 is
a clear frequency with no jamming. So they moved to a frequency that was already being jammed, from a
frequency that was not jammed. Seems their broadcasts are not actually monitored there in S. Korea, as
the frequency assignments make little sense.

Ron Howard Jan 12 (Wed), 2022 21:02 UTC No.5015 CHINA. 6200, Voice of Jinling, 1218, on Jan 11. Listening to Xizang PBS (Lhasa, Tibet) till VOJL's double
sign on (*1228* *1229+ UT); in Chinese; started with several commercial announcements; the first ad seemed
to be about buying a new house and remodeling; company provides design, materials, and construction. They
also can provide furniture and kitchen appliances. [It should be noted that new houses in China are not livable,
and buyers need to install bathrooms, a kitchen, etc.]. while the second ad was about Chinese music, inviting
people to listen to their music; at 1230, the start of “J?ngdi?n y?nyue q?ng f?xian huaren shishang p?ntu“

at 9 (1200 UT = 9:00 PM KST); ID after each news item as "K-B-S News"; these news programs are posted to YouTube
( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgVMWA2SUC4 ); lead story was of a building that partially collapsed during
construction in Gwangju, S. Korea; light jamming underneath KBS.
MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, 1230-1345, on Jan 12. Outstanding reception today; about the best ever; excepted
to hear the Wednesday edition of "Say It In English" language lesson, but was not aired today; 1328+, usual BoH
format (their local ToH); nice three "kilohertz" station's singing jingle, with 5985 kHz. (Ngarr koe shit ngarr
kilohertz), 576 kHz. (Ngarrrar hkunait s y hkyawwat kilohertz) and 594 kHz. (Ngarrrar koe s y layy kilohertz);

Echo of Hope - VOH: 3990 // 4885 // 6000 // 6250 // 6355 // 9100, at 1114 UT; these changes should be good
through Jan 23 (Sunday). Noted VOH (6355) before 1046, with very good reception; covered at *1046, start

Voice of the People - no change from last week; 3910 // 3930 // 3480 (continues to be the best reception!)
// 4450 // 6520 // 6600, at 0950 UT.
MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio; slightly less than semi-readable; 1530 UT, Jan 19. Into English segment;
news & sports; "This is Myanmar Radio. Here is the weather news," plus "outlook for the next two days";
seemed to be several lists of gov't agendas/slogans; PSA about travel restrictions for COVID-19, given by
native speaker of English ("presented by UNESCO and your local radio station"); PSA in Burmese; pop
song (One Direction - "Drag Me Down," etc.); *1558, mostly blocked by the start of CRI; after 1600,
Myanmar was not in English, but had Buddhists chanting.
5985, with anomaly or change of schedule? Jan 16, tuned in at 1007 UT, to hear Myanmar on very early;
for over a year, had heard their normal *1130; today also noted Myanmar was not on the air as usual on
9730. On Jan 17, heard MR (5985) at 0940 UT, again with no 9730. So for two consecutive days heard
well before 1130 and with no 9730 (without Myanmar on 9730, I am hearing SOH [// 6214.95]). Needs
more monitoring. BTW - 5985 is now blocked at *1055, with strong NHK IS and 1100 in Russian.

CHINA. A reminder that Feb 1 (Tuesday) is Chinese New Year (year of the Tiger). Every year I monitor all the
Chinese SW stations to hear if any of them have coverage of the Chinese New Year's Eve (Spring Festival) Gala,
broadcast with the CCTV audio feed. Some stations carry full (non-stop) coverage, while others have only partial
(occasional) coverage. The festivities start on Jan 31 (Monday) at 1200 UT and continue for about four and a half
hours. Normally Voice of Strait (both 4900 & 4940) will have coverage; also check for either CNR1 or CNR2 (China
Business Radio) to have live coverage, as well as checking some of the regional Chinese stations; in past years
have noted Qinghai ("Qinghai News Comprehensive Broadcasting") on 6145 kHz. with coverage. Is a good opportunity
to find many Chinese stations running parallel programming. The gala consists of comedy performances, songs, dance,
acrobatics, magic, Chinese opera and even foreign celebrities.

Re: Radio Vanuatu with audio! -
Ron Howard Feb 02 (Wed), 2022 13:24 UTC No.5027 Feb 2 - Thanks to Manuel's timely tip (WORiog), I had to return to the beach to catch some actual audio, after many
months of listening to just an open carrier with no audio at all on 5040 kHz. Radio Vanuatu, as one of my favorite SW
stations, pulled me back to the beach, even as I am still rather stiff from my fall last week.
1004-1019 UT: News (Is normal for RV to not start the news at the ToH).
1019-1028: Island music/songs.
1028-1033: Start of the usual half hour religious program, starting with non-stop religious songs.
1033-1046: RV SA; into preaching (unreadable).
1046-1103: More religious songs
1103-1104: ending audio with the National Anthem.
1104+: open carrier/no audio at all (1145+).
BTW - Checking for any Radio Symban signal on 2368.43 kHz., but from 0940+ UT, no trace at all of any signal.
Must be running unusually low power. In light of my past Symban receptions, I thought I might catch some trace
of a carrier. Here is my 2014 QSL for a Symban test transmission (50w) - https://app.box.com/s/hz9qo091vsmpzmcva02z .
Also here is a copy of their nice 2011 Christmas card - https://app.box.com/s/b24hpnyoxrm3icplls8u .
Is the station still being operated by Angelo Matsoukas, along with Tom Tsamouras?
Surprise to find no Voice of Indonesia (3325) signal from 1120+ UT. Currently off the air?

Radio Symban - Checking 2368.43 kHz. for traces of a carrier from 0935+ UT (Feb 3), but nothing at all heard.
CHINA. 6035, Yunnan Radio International, on Feb 3, at 1156 UT. Heard with nice classical (western) orchestra music
(unusual to hear this type of music via a Chinese station, but must be living up to their "International" name);
clear multi-language SAs (English: "Yunnan Radio International"); one of their better days.
PERU. 4810, presumed R. Logos, 1113-1128 UT, Feb 3. Best ever reception here, even with the normal heavy CODAR QRM;
announcer (1113-1120) and OA music/songs (1120-1128). My audio (two minutes of announcer and one of music) is posted
at http://bit.ly/3gqiI1e .
VANUATU. 5040, R. Vanuatu, Feb 3. Very respectable signal; much better than yesterday; here are some highlights:
1003-1020 UT: News/sports in Bislama (As Zacharias Liangas has also noted in WORiog, a helpful sprinkling of English
words here); many sound bites; items about New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Australian investments, "sports . .
football club," etc.
1033: RV SA and local time check ("half past nine"); into the usual half hour religious program; preaching and prayer
in Bislama ("tonight . . . the Bible says . . .," etc.)
1041+: Religious songs; many in English ("Just Reach Out Your Hand," etc.).
1103-1104: ending audio with the National Anthem. My audio is at http://bit.ly/3AWvY7n .
1104+: open carrier/dead air with no audio at all (1150+).

Ron Howard Feb 04 (Fri), 2022 14:39 UTC No.5029
AUSTRALIA. 5055, Radio 4KZ, cut off at 0954:25* UT, on Feb 3; recently consistent with five seconds earlier
cut off time every day. Feb 4 - Significant anomaly - Not heard at their usual time (checked 0941 UT), but
later on the air at a time normal off (checked 1018+ and still on at last check at 1255 UT); usual format
(The Rascals - "Groovin on a Sunday Afternoon" and many other recognizable pop oldies).
CHINA. CNR1 // CNR2, all frequencies // for the 1200 UT, on Feb 4. Start of the live audio feed from CCTV
coverage of the opening Olympic ceremony; some announcements in French and English; at 1243, with the Parade
of Nations (Albania, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Latvia, Great Britain, Romania, etc.); checked many other Chinese
regional stations, but none found with any coverage. Brief audio attached.
INDONESIA. 4749.95, VOI, via Cimanggis/Jakarta, 1142 UT, Feb 4. Very unusual to be able to hear VOI here;
clearly two stations in Chinese; other one was CNR1; slight het as VOI is off frequency from CNR1; currently
VOI is off the air on 3325 (Palangkaraya). My reception today was only possible during pre-Bangladesh Betar.
VANUATU. 5040, R. Vanuatu, quick check at 1100 UT, Feb 4. Religious song; 1101-1102, National Anthem; 1102+

CHINA. 5050, Beibu Bay Radio, 1516-1517 UT, Feb 5. The usual brief spot in English; recently about
Hainan Island's famous foods (Wenchang chicken, Jiaji duck, etc.).
CUBA[and non-VANUATU]. 5040, RHC, on the air very late Feb 9. Still on the air at 1020 UT; but at 1043,
found the frequency finally clear and again today with no Radio Vanuatu signal (nor on any other frequency).
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. 7110-LSB, the LA ham net still being heard almost daily after 1100+ UT, but no
longer playing the distinctive LA music (he must have been told to stop doing it!); now just the hams chatting.
INDONESIA. 3325, VOI, via Palangkaraya, 0951 UT, Feb 9. Recently had been off the air; today extremely
rare reception to hear their carrier this early (normally about *1100); by 1014, faint patriotic song “Bagimu
Negeri” (For You Our Country); poor reception, but with some audio.
KOREA NORTH[non]. 5930, Shiokaze/Sea Breeze, via Yamata (Japan), 1324 UT (scheduled 13-14), on
Feb 9. Wednesday in English; fair-good and still no jamming (N. Korea must still be celebrating the Lunar
New Year?), while // 7335 (heavy CNR2 QRM); segment "Message from the Japanese government."
KOREA SOUTH. 6045, Voice of Freedom, 1157 UT, Feb 8. Closing SA for the "Aneun geos-i him-ida"
(Knowledge is power) program; 1200, the usual single tone; then "Jayu-e solibangsong-eseo bam 9 (ahob)
sileul allyeodeulibnida." (In English - Voice of Freedom has announced 9pm); nice singing station jingle -
"jinsil-e soli, huimang-e soli, jayu-e soli bangsong!" (Voice of Truth, Voice of Hope, Voice of Freedom
broadcast); then the "Bodo gwangjang" (News Plaza) segment; fair, even with the super noise jamming
from N. Korea; at least the daily different pip jamming had ended sometime after 1100.
Echo of Hope - VOH, 3980 // 4885 // 5990 // 6250 // 6348 // 9100, at 1530 UT, Feb 5 (Saturday). The weekend
only reading of a "Harry Potter" story in English, with a lengthy explanation in Korean; fair. Then on Monday
(Feb 7), there was no change of frequencies (0827 UT) for this week, so the same frequencies should be good
through Feb 13 (Sunday).
Voice of the People - Remains the same when heard Feb 7 (Monday) on 3910 // 3930 // 3480 // 4450 // 6520 //
6600, at 1005 UT; again with no changes.
KBS Hanminjok Bangsong 1, 6015, Feb 8, at 1208 UT. The usual audio feed from the TV KBS news at 9
(1200 UT = 9:00 PM KST); SA after each news item as "K-B-S News"; almost fair, even with light N. Korea
jamming underneath.
PERU. 4810, presumed R. Logos, Feb 9. Is it just me, or has this station been steadily improving recently?
Very pleasant OA music/songs during a segment that seems to always start every day at 1120+ UT. Is rare
for me to get involved with LA receptions, but this has been nice!
TURKEY/MYANMAR. 5985, VOT, 1456 UT, Feb 5. VOT IS; killing Myanmar reception; 1500, unable to make
out the start of the VOT language.
U S A. 7505, WRNO, 1403*, Feb 5. Cut off just after starting "The Haven," program in English.
UNID. 6300-USB, tuned in 0813 to 0820 UT, Feb 7. Islamic chanting/reciting from Qur'an(?) with no music;

AUSTRALIA. 5055, Radio 4KZ, on Feb 11, running hours past their former cut off time (0954:25* UT, on Feb 3);
heard 0937 UT, till past 1225; pop songs (Foreigner - "I Want To Know What Love Is," Michael Bolton - "How
Am I Supposed To Live Without You," Cliff Richard - "We Don't Talk Anymore," Bette Midler - "Wind Beneath
My Wings," Whitney Houston - "Saving All My Love For You," etc.). Is this their usual seasonal schedule change?
INDONESIA. 3325, VOI, via Palangkaraya, 1007 UT, Feb 11. Thanks very much to Ivo Ivanov, who recently first
observed the new schedule; now starting about an hour earlier than in the past; formerly, for a long time,
had started about 1100; today noted with news in English till 1009, when they played the usual patriotic
song “Bagimu Negeri” (For You Our Country); followed by "Today in History"; announced frequency of "3-3-2-5
KiloHertz"; normal audio level during English (1007-1100), but by 1211 the audio was gone (just dead air).
4749.95, VOI, via Cimanggis/Jakarta, noted at 1211 UT, Feb 11. Clearly VOI and CNR1 (4750.0) mixing together
here, along with CODAR QRM; both unusable, but certainly two stations. VOI is becoming more regularly heard here.
KOREA SOUTH. back to their alternate frequency of 5920 (ex: 6045), Voice of Freedom, 1156 UT, Feb 11. Closing SA

strong station. I daily check 4895 and it has been a long time since I last heard anything. Do not
believe it is the ghost of AIR Kurseong, hi! Might be worthwhile to check this frequency.

Re: Malaysia SW currently off the air -
Ron Howard Mar 14 (Mon), 2022 05:56 UTC No.5045 March 12, at 1005 UT, I also confirmed both Sarawak FM (9835) and Wai FM (11665) were off the air.
Sent off an email to RTM. Still missing March 13, at 1240 UT check.
RTM is back to work on Monday (March 14), so here is the nice reply to my email:
Dear Ron Howard,
First of all, I would like to thank you for choosing our SW channel as your choice.
For your information, our SW transmitter is off the air due to the main power supply to the transmitter and
the building has a problem. Now still under repairs and hope our SW channel will be back on the air soon.
Thank you.

Ron Howard Mar 16 (Wed), 2022 01:45 UTC No.5048 No signals heard with random checking 0810-1000 UT:
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. The long standing silence continues; 3260 (NBC Madang), 3325 (NBC Bougainville)
and 7325 (Wantok Radio Light) were all unheard at my location. On 3325, at 1000, the carrier of
the Voice of Indonesia was heard, which had already started.
SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020 and 9545, both with no signal. Seems strange that this and Vanuatu were silent
on the same day.
VANUATU. 5040 and checked their usual other frequencies, all with no signal.
BTW - Overall conditions seemed decent. Radio 4KZ (5055) heard slightly above the norm; Frankie Valli
and The 4 Season - "Can't Take My Eyes Off You," Donna Summer - "She Works Hard For The Money," etc.

SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC - Voice of the Nation. Yesterday (March 15) noted this off the air;
probably working on xmtr adjustment(?), as audio on March 16 was the best I have heard in a long
time. From 1012+ UT; mostly in Solomon Is. Pijin; island songs; commercial announcements (mobile
service, etc.); 1100, calliope and news; various amounts of Cuba (5025) QRM. Nice to hear them again
with some decent modulation! My audio is at https://bit.ly/3te0h7d .

Christopher Lehner Mar 18 (Fri), 2022 20:07 UTC No.5050 Solomon Islands: SIBC 5020 @ 1920 UTC Friday, 18 March via SDR near Forester, NSW Australia.
As Ron Howard reported, it is nice to hear them once again with much improved audio.
1920 UT Female ancr discussing covid guidelines for businesses and service providers.
Switching back and forth to 5040, Vanuatu weak in the static at 1913 UT with male ancr in local vernacular.
1924 SIBC with various commercials and PSA's (U-save Mobile is running a promo) 1925 PSA on fitness and exercise,
bumper for "SIBC Voice of the Nation" then into an upbeat tempo song.
I'm finding this is a very enjoyable station to listen to while working in my office, and I'm looking forward to
post more material on this site. I've always enjoyed chasing DX and SWL from asia and pacific region.

CHINA. 4940, Voice of Strait, *0955 UT, March 16. Started with IS; 0956, Chinese IDs; 1000, time pips
and Chinese/English SAs ("This is the Voice of Taiwan Strait News Radio"). Before 0955, Colombia was
doing fairly well.
SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC, March 18, another day with wonderful audio level; reminds me of my reception
from years ago. At 0812 UT, several clear "Voice of the nation" IDs; 0832-0858, in English with public
service educational program for students about health; balanced diet, exercise regularly, quit smoking,
reduce alcohol use (for college students?), wash and dry hands, check available resources via newspapers,
TV, radio, etc.; 1104, news in English; played a lot of nice island music. Very pleasant to have audio
levels that at times were semi-readable, with various amounts of adjacent Cuban QRM. A vast improvement
from their long standing low modulation broadcasting!
TAIWAN. 6214.94v, Sound of Hope, ID at 1401 UT, March 16. Unusual to find this one minute out of sync
with 6230 // 6280; all with fair reception.
Fu Hsing BS, 9410 (best) // 9774 (very poor), 0847-0900* UT, March 16 (Wed.). A good day with announcers
in Chinese and music; cut off in mid-song; // 15375 has not been heard recently.
VANUATU. 5040, Radio Vanuatu, 0633 UT, March 18. Cuba already off the air; 1034-1056, monolog (religious?);
1056, religious song in English; 1100-1102*, full ID with frequencies and National Anthem; so they are back
to their former schedule/format; much better than usual reception.

Ron Howard Jun 04 (Sat), 2022 17:47 UTC No.5069
Hi Amano - Greetings from California!
Wai FM (11665), on June 2, heard at 1348 UT with their unique chanting (prayer?);?
at 1400* went?off the air. I have NOT heard Sarawak FM (9835) for a long time now.
YES, something is certainly?different now! In the past, for a long time Wai FM was
heard with?poor?to very poor reception, along with poor audio (over-modulated),
while Sarawak FM (9835) was?well heard with good?audio. Then on March 12, I first
noted both frequencies were off the air for?a while; later Wai FM returned to the
air, while?Sarawak FM remained off (still unheard through?June 2).?
Wai FM has recently been heard very well?and with good?audio!!?
So?I conclude that Wai FM is now?via the former Sarawak FM transmitter, which would
explain?the improved reception and absence of?any Sarawak FM reception.
Anyway, that is what I believe has happened.

Thank you for the Wai FM transmitter information.
On June 2, listening to Ron-san’s short audio (Wai FM on 11665) of a pop song, it's clear that there's no bad modulation of the same sound with a delay of a few seconds.
I want to check Sarawak FM on 9835, too.
I also listened to your audio of Radio Vanuatu on 11835 harmonic.

Ron Howard Jun 06 (Mon), 2022 20:41 UTC No.5074 Sign of the times: For many years now I have been going to my local beach to listen to SW. In the past
I was normally the only car parked there in the middle of the night. Was extremely rare to have another
car parked anywhere along the road by the beach. Now it is common place to find as many as ten vehicles
(mostly passenger cars, or a few small vans/SUVs) parked by the beach. People are clearly sleeping in
their cars overnight, thereby saving money by not staying at a motel. Monterey is a very active tourist area
and I believe most of the cars at the beach at night must just be tourists. I seem to be the only regular
visitor to the beach in the middle of the night.
KOREA NORTH[non]. Shiokaze/Sea Breeze; currently 5935 // 6070, during 1300-1400 UT. Am I the only
one who has noticed that it is no longer being jammed by N. Korea? Yes, it has been free of jamming
for some weeks now. Wonder what happened?
KOREA SOUTH. Echo of Hope - VOH, at 1124 UT, on June 6 (Monday); 3980 // 4885 // 5990 // 6250 // 6348
// 9100 (the best reception, with no jamming, but recently has been heard being jammed earlier); start of the
audio feed from TV English language lesson "Wang cho bo yeong-eo", with "Mayu" and "Mini"; "I have
lost my watch," "I have forgotten my password," "Thank God we have an air conditioner here!" "Thank
God you are my husband!". These frequencies should be good through June 12 (Sunday).
Voice of the People, at 1200 UT, on June 6; start of news in Korean ("Bodo"); 3480 (best reception, with
no jamming) // 3910 // 3930 // 4450 // 6520 // 6600.
Voice of Freedom is again on 6045, where it is blocked by very strong super jamming from N. Korea;
while ex: 5920 is a clear frequency. Also hearing N. Korean super jamming again on 6135, against no
known station?
SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC, extended broadcast; still on the air with pop songs at 1320 UT, June 6;
very low modulation. Question - When was the last time SIBC was heard on 9545 kHz.? Is it ever in use now?
VANUATU. 11835 harmonic, Radio Vanuatu, *0559-0733 UT, June 6. Outstanding reception; very readable;
fairly easy to follow what is being said in Bislama, as there are a good number of English words used. I find
this station to be very entertaining!
0623: Information about the celebrations taking place in the UK for the Queen reigning for 70 years; mentions
Vanuatu's independence in 1980.
0629: Announcement in English for media training ("special course"); requested cover letters be sent to ABC

Re: China - CHBC (6185 kHz.) and Voice of Strait (4900 & 4940 kHz.) -
Ron Howard Jun 25 (Sat), 2022 20:20 UTC No.5077 CHINA. Recently CHBC (6185 kHz.) was off the air due to routine maintenance, but on June 24 noted
them back again (1030+ UT). Now I want to share the following article that was forwarded to me by
Dr. Hansjorg Biener (Germany), presenting a political analysis from a Taiwanese viewpoint. Appreciate
very much receiving this info.
https://globaltaiwan.org/2017/02/15-gtb-2-7/
"The Role of PLA Base 311 in Political Warfare against Taiwan (Part 3) - By Elsa B. Kania
Elsa Kania is an analyst at the Long Term Strategy Group.
The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) utilizes techniques and methods associated with the “three warfares” to target
Taiwan, particularly through the efforts of the former General Political Department’s (GPD) Base 311 (61716 部隊),
its “Public Opinion Warfare, Psychological Warfare, and Legal Warfare Base” (輿論戰心理戰法律戰基地). Base 311,
which has its headquarters in Fujian, within Fuzhou province, seemingly oversees at least six regiments that are
responsible for engaging in the three warfares against Taiwan, including through multiple forms of propaganda.
While a comprehensive analysis of Base 311 would be beyond the scope of this article, an overview of its recent
activities offers an illustration of its efforts to influence public opinion in Taiwan, including through associated
proxy organizations, in peacetime. In a wartime scenario, Base 311’s engagement in the three warfares could be
impacted by the PLA’s organizational reforms, which may enable increased coordination of these political warfare
activities with information warfare.
Targeting Taiwan in Peacetime
In peacetime, Base 311’s employment of the three warfares has included the utilization of a commercial front, the
China Huayi Broadcasting Corporation (中國華藝廣播公司, CHBC). Established in 1991, CHBC focuses on
Taiwan-related content, including the Voice of the Taiwan Strait. CHBC describes itself as seeking to “promote
Chinese culture” and emphasizes that, “cohering [凝聚] compatriots’ feelings” is the company’s abiding purpose.
Its coverage of Taiwan is routinely negative, often highlighting political contention and social issues.
While there is relatively limited information available regarding the activities of Base 311 itself, CHBC maintains a
much higher public profile, including through its involvement in multiple cross-Strait forums and exchanges. Typically,
the commander of Base 311 is dual-hatted as the CEO (or chairman, 董事長) of CHBC. Major General Wang Shu
(汪?), who became the commander of Base 311 in 2010, was concurrently the chairman of CHBC. Since Wang
Shu was promoted to become the director of the Nanjing Political Institute in 2015, there has been no official
announcement regarding who would take over his role as commander of Base 311. However, since about mid-2015,
Qiu Yu (邱雨) has been identified as the chairman of CHBC,[1] which may be an indication that he has taken on the
role of commander of Base 311 as well. Since there is minimal information available about him under that name, he
may also use a pseudonym to distinguish his PLA and CHBC personas.
In peacetime, CHBC’s attempts to influence public opinion have involved organizing cross-Strait exchanges, including
the following, held within several months of each other in 2016:
In August, CHBC was involved in organizing a cross-Strait college students’ exchange involving a community activities
planning competition held in Fuzhou. In September, CHBC organized activities on “Sun Yat-sen thought” for students
from elite Taiwanese universities that highlighted his commitment to national unification (国家?一) and national
rejuvenation (民族振興). In November, CHBC, along with partners including the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office
and the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait, organized a commemoration of the 150th anniversary of
the birth of Sun Yat-sen that brought together youth delegates from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, and mainland China.
In his remarks, Qiu Yu (邱雨) called for promoting the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and the great
rejuvenation of the Chinese nationality (中華民族的偉大復興).
Beyond CHBC’s broadcasting and propaganda activities, Base 311 also appears to be linked to the Collaborative
Innovation Center for the Peaceful Development of Cross-Strait Relations (兩岸關係和平發展協同創新中心). Ai Songru
(艾松如), a psychological warfare specialist in the PLA, has been identified by multiple sources as CHBC’s Director
and General Manager (董事、總經理), since at least 2011, under the pseudonym Ai Ke (艾克), seemingly to distinguish his
PLA and CHBC activities.[2] Ai Songru has also been described as the executive director of the Collaborative Innovation
Center for the Peaceful Development of Cross-Strait Relations. This center, established in 2012 at Xiamen University,
has the objective and mandate “to promote the peaceful development of cross-strait relations and eventually reunify
the nation.” In particular, it seeks to become “the most authoritative and influential source of information and
scholarship on Taiwan studies in the world.”
These attempts to establish its authoritativeness and influence public opinion on Taiwan have included hosting a
variety of events and exchanges related to issues in cross-Strait relations, including the Dajiang Forum; frequent
publications in Chinese-language and English-language platforms; and participation in international conferences.
Although its activities may appear relatively innocuous, the linkage of CICCSR to CHBC and thus to Base 311 indicates
the intention to influence that underlies its engagement with Taiwanese and international audiences.
The Future of the Three Warfares in Wartime?
Looking forward, Base 311’s position and function within the PLA may evolve as a result of the ongoing organizational
reforms. There are indications that Base 311, previously subordinate to the former GPD, may now be under the aegis
of the PLA’s new Strategic Support Force (戰略支援部隊), based on a number of personnel transfers. Although there is
not yet a definitive indication that this change has occurred, such a shift would be consistent with a broader pattern
in which the majority of the four former General Departments’ operational units appear to have been transferred to
the SSF.
The transfer of Base 311 to the SSF could reflect the PLA’s intensified focus on ensuring the operational impact of
the three warfares in a warfighting context (see part 2). In practice, the conceptual framework of the three warfares
is closely linked to the PLA’s strategic thinking on information warfare, which incorporates cyber warfare, electronic
warfare, and also psychological warfare. In this regard, a potential organizational shift could prelude an enhanced
focus on integrating the three warfares into information operations on the battlefield. In particular, the potential coordination of the PLA’s cyber and psychological warfare capabilities could enable more effective “cyber psychological warfare.”
At this point, it is unclear how and to what extent Base 311’s activities, including those of its front organizations,
will continue to be coordinated with other key actors in the PLA’s political work/warfare system in the future.
For instance, there are indications that Base 311 previously collaborated with or otherwise provided support to
he former GPD Liaison Department (總政治部聯絡部), the Chinese Communist Party’s Taiwan Propaganda Leading Small Group,
and also the Taiwan Affairs Leading Small Group, based on reports of interactions with figures from these organizations.
Such collaborations will likely continue, but the coordination of these various political warfare activities could
remain a challenge for the PLA.
Conclusion
The PLA’s efforts to target Taiwan in peacetime have involved extensive propaganda and also exchange activities
organized by front organizations. In wartime, Base 311 would take on a much more active, combat-oriented function,
in coordination with kinetic and information operations. Although the design of effective countermeasures against the
three warfares could prove challenging, further attempts to enhance transparency regarding these activities and their
underlying intentions may constitute an initial step toward undermining their efficacy."
- - - - - - This corresponds nicely with what I had been reading about the Voice of Strait (4900 & 4940 kHz.):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voice_of_the_Strait
"In 2015 the unit which operates Voice of the Strait was transferred from the People's Liberation Army General Political
Department to the People's Liberation Army Strategic Support Force becoming PLASSF Base 311. Base 311 (also
known as PLA Unit 61716) is primarily responsible for psychological warfare operations against Taiwan."

Your audio of Radio Vanuatu is so amazing!
SAs as "Radio Vanuatu, Vois Blong Yumi." (00:07-00:10, 01:23-01:26) can be heard clearly.
Thank you for the information about Korea.
Based on your information, I heard VOF today.
KOREA SOUTH. 5920, Voice of Freedom (ex: 6045), Aug 17, from 0753- UT.
Start VOF without jamming.
But about 1 minute later, North Korea started bubble jamming.
My audio is attached.

Re: Shiokaze with new frequencies today -
Ron Howard Aug 25 (Thu), 2022 14:28 UTC No.5090 First day on alternate frequency of 5935 (ex 5920 - so the Voice of Freedom [Korea] is now in the clear)
// 6070 (ex 6040), Shiokaze/Sea Breeze, via Yamata (Japan), from 1303+ UT (10:03 PM JST); scheduled 13-14 UT,
on Aug 25. Found 5935 with very poor reception due to Shiokaze now blocking the usually fair reception I
formerly had from Tibet (PBS Xizang); while 6070 was fairly good. There really is no need now for these
periodic changes of frequencies, as N. Korea stopped jamming Shiokaze a while ago (believe it was in
mid-May they ended all the jamming of Shiokaze).

Monday - Aug 29 observations:
KOREA SOUTH. Was unfamiliar with the VOH sign on format, so was very intrigued by Richard's report about hearing a
"foghorn" (Thanks Richard!), which I had never heard at any time in the past. Today when I checked for the weekly VOH
frequency changes, indeed heard the new format of foghorn at the ToH; noted foghorn at 1300 UT (10:00 PM JST) and?into
the news in?Korean (item about "Australia, Queensland," etc.); also again at 1401 UT (11:01 PM JST) and again at?1500
UT (12:00 midnight JST) (brief audio attached), followed?by the "Oneul-ui sosig" (Today's News) program.
VOH today on 3980 // 4885 // 5990 // 6250 // 6348 (VOH's only off frequency!) // 9100 kHz.; good from Aug 29 to Sept 4.

Re: Radio Vanuatu now on 7932 kHz. -
Ron Howard Sep 06 (Tue), 2022 17:30 UTC No.5093 VANUATU. 7932, Radio Vanuatu, 0535-0659* UT Sept 6. Again being heard, but on this new frequency; seems this must
be the fundamental/primary frequency (not a harmonic), as no carrier heard on 3966 nor 11898; CODAR QRM, as also
reported by others. After 0659, I couldn't find them anywhere (2485, 3945, 5040, 7260, etc.). Here are a few
highlights (in general they played a lot of nice island music!):
0535-0544 UT: Phone interview.
0555-0600: Usual series of PSAs, commercial announcements, etc.
0600-0603: News in Bislama; unreadable.
0630-0640: Weather update for the many provinces.
0656: Advertisement for sugarcane products produced by "83 Islands Distillery" [ https://83islands.com/ ]
(audio attached); PSA for vaccinations against measles.

Re: Radio Vanuatu on new frequencies -
Ron Howard Sep 07 (Wed), 2022 09:38 UTC No.5094 Sept 7 - After 0659* UT (3:59* PM JST) on 7932 kHz., I went looking for Vanuatu. Not on the usual frequencies.
Found Radio Vanuatu on new 8620.22 kHz., as measured on my old Eton E1 (am sure someone can
get a more accurate measurement!); mostly fair; // 4310.11 (poor) // 12930.33 (very poor).
0705-0716 UT (4:05-4:16 PM JST): News/sports in Bislama.
0731-0801: Interview in English about investments (talking about gov't bonds, National Bank, low interest
rate loans, interest rates, "Investments not all in one basket," etc.).
0802+: Speech in Bislama about domestic violence in Vanuatu, violence against women, Vanuatu's Women
Center, etc.
Wonder how they are coming up with these strange frequencies?

Re: Historic audio clip - Prince Charles visiting Vanuatu in 2018 -
Ron Howard Sep 10 (Sat), 2022 10:23 UTC No.5096
VANUATU. Sept 10 observations:
7932, Radio Vanuatu heard 0633-0659* UT. At 0633: The usual segment of messages, but today was in French,
instead of the usual Bislama; 0637 the segment ending with the usual indigenous drums; 0638 till suddenly
cut off at 0659*, with Island songs.
8620+, Radio Vanuatu, *0659 UT, suddenly started 10 seconds after 7932 went off the air:
0701-0712 UT: News/sports in Bislama (interesting sound bite of an historic address made to a crowd in Vanuatu,
back on April 7, 2018, during the visit of Prince Charles, when he was given the title and name of honorary high
chief Mal Menaringmanu; ending his address with "Vanuatu, you number one!". My audio posted at https://bit.ly/3qu7Rss ).
This audio clip was separately repeated again at 0739.

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(27) -
Ron Howard Sep 13 (Tue), 2022 01:09 UTC No.5097 BANGLADESH. 4750, Bangladesh Betar (External Service), was unusually poor today; *1224 UT with test
tone; 1227, start of their IS, but otherwise unusable; mixing with CNR1.
INDONESIA. 3325, Voice of Indonesia, broadcasting from Palangkaraya, still silent (1207+ UT).
KOREA SOUTH. Echo of Hope -VOH, after two consecutive weeks on the same frequencies, VOH has finally
again made a Monday change:
3985 // 4890 // 5995 // 6255 // 6350.0 // 9105, at 1147 UT; the EBS TV audio feed for "Wang cho bo yeong-eo,"
which is always aired only on weekdays; intro and exit theme song is with the very distinctive "Party Will
Come Alive," by the Wizardz Of Oz/Ruben Martinez - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOnHJJUOuDI ; the
usual intro has announcer saying "English trainer" and giving his name ("Mayu"), then the woman announcer
says her name ("Mini"); 9105, as usual, with excellent reception (brief audio attached).
Voice of Freedom, 6045, at 1158 UT; closing SA for the "Aneun geos-i him-ida" (Knowledge is power) program;
1200, the usual single tone; then "Jayu-e solibangsong-eseo bam 9 (ahob) sileul allyeodeulibnida." (In English -
Voice of Freedom has announced 9pm); nice singing station jingle - "jinsil-e soli, huimang-e soli, jayu-e soli
bangsong!" (Voice of Truth, Voice of Hope, Voice of Freedom broadcast); then the "Bodo gwangjang" (News
Plaza) segment; today the N. Korean jamming here was lighter than normal, so better VOF reception.
SOLOMON ISLANDS, 5020, SIBC, still on 1250+ UT; non-stop pop music.
