Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Jun 24, 2017 17:37 UTC No.2365
- - - - - - - Ron posted to DXLD yg:

** BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1057-1200*, June 24.
In Pidgin; segments of pop Pacific Islands music and talking; 1146
montage of pop songs along with "NBC Bougainville" [SA]ID; mentioned
"Saturday night" and just gave 95.5 FM frequency; 1155 another
montage of pop songs and another "NBC Bougainville" [SA]ID, but this
time with "3325 kilohertz, 90 meter band, shortwave one"; cut off at
1200*; poor.

BTW - After 1200, no trace of Pro 1 RRI Palangkaraya, which conforms
to Atsunori Ishida's website (http://rri.jpn.org/); so RRI last heard on
3325 was on June 16. Now am only hearing Indonesia via SW from
RRI Ternate (open carrier) and VOI (poor). A sad state of affairs! (Ron
Howard, oceanside at Pacific Grove, CA, Et E1, antenna: 100' long
wire, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 5037-USB, VC01 (Chinese Military numbers station), 1214 &
1240, June 24. Numbers in Chinese; poor. Thanks to info at Hiroyuki
Komatsubara's website, "Now On The Radio" (http://radio.chobi.net/DX/)
(Ron Howard, oceanside at Pacific Grove, CA, Et E1, antenna: 100' long
wire, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA SOUTH. On June 24:

Echo of Hope - VOH, at 1011 and subsequent checking till 1055:

5995, 6250, 6350, and 9100 were all in //.

VOH on 4885 clearly had different programming from the other
frequencies; was not a matter of being somewhat out of syn, but
had completely different programs; at 1055 confirmed 4885 was
still VOH, with a series of the usual "V O H" [SA]IDs. This conforms
to excellent info at Hiroyuki Komatsubara's website, "Now On The
Radio" (http://radio.chobi.net/DX/).

Voice of Freedom, now back on former 5920 (ex 5940), with strong
N. Korean jamming; 1005 and subsequent checking through 1252.
This also conforms to info at Hiroyuki Komatsubara's website,
which I find to be an excellent source for up-to-date info about
Asian SW activity (Ron Howard, oceanside at Pacific Grove, CA,
Et E1, antenna: 100' long wire, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang, 1201-1206*, June 24
(Saturday). As it's the weekend, no news at ToH; pop songs; suddenly
off the air; poor.

3365, NBC Milne Bay, on June 24, at 1207 & 1217, was only hearing a
decent level open carrier with no audio; unusual for them to keep the
transmitter on after they end their audio (Ron Howard, oceanside at
Pacific Grove, CA, Et E1, antenna: 100' long wire, dxldyg via DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, Wantok FM relay via SIBC, 1227, June 24.
Extended broadcast, as Glenn also noted today; pop songs (Whitney
Houston - "I Will Always Love You," etc.); still on at 1242, but gone by
1255. My local sunrise was at 1250 UT (Ron Howard, oceanside at
Pacific Grove, CA, Et E1, antenna: 100' long wire, dxldyg via DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

-1240-

4710 kHz UNID - Garbled audio in LSB; no audio in USB; sounded like an Asian language;
non-stop talking.

It is a state that I do not understand well here because of the high noise level
(noise floor) and the Static electricity(Thunder).

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Jun 27, 2017 22:22 UTC No.2372
BANGLADESH. 4750, Bangladesh Betar - HS, 1235-1243,
June 26. The Monday only SAARC (The South Asian Association
for Regional Cooperation) news bulletin in English, starting with
鄭ssalamu alaikum. This is Bangladesh Betar・ clearly in English,
but not very readable due to usual CODAR and CNR1 QRM.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1203*, on June 26.
June 27, no trace off them; certainly off the air today. Palangkaraya
continues to be silent here, so June 27 a totally clear frequency.

MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio. On June 26 (Monday), tuned
in at 1220 to heard an English language lesson, as well as in Burmese;
ended at 1229; some of the English heard - "Can you show me how
the machine works?", "No, no. Not like that", "Put money in, then dial
the number", "Could you please slow down?", "How do you play that?",
"How to slow down?", "How do you use the phone?", "Easy to drive",
"Where are you going to park it?", "Press the accelerator gently", "We
are going to hit that car", etc.; unable to ID brief program name, but
almost positive was not a Radio Australia production (in the past, RA
produced the English segments for Mon. & Wed.) Suspect this show
will be rebroadcast again on Wednesday?

VANUATU. 7259.96, R. Vanuatu, June 26. Poor with QRN (static);
0554-0608 interview in vernacular (no break at ToH); Pacific Islands
songs; 0629-0637 segment with intro and exit of drums; clear SA/ID
for "Radio Vanuatu."

BTW - As a point of interest, it should be noted that the President of
Vanuatu suddenly died on June 17. The electoral college will select
a new president on July 3, so assume there will be many segments on
SW about this activity.

ZANZIBAR. 6015, ZBC Radio, on June 26, with sports coverage;
preempted regular programs; tuned in at 0347; probably the COSAFA
Castle Cup game between Tanzania & Malawi, held in RSA. No drums
as usual at 0359, but at 0401 time pips and sounded like the start of a
second audio feed with the news, mixing with the sports coverage audio.
Poor reception, so hard to be positive as to just what was happening. ZBC
was silent on June 25.

Amano-san (Saitama, Japan), the same program is repeated
here on 4885 every hour; program is "Radio Broadcasting Guide,"
provided for by "Foreign Family Alliance"; program is different from
the other Echo of Hope VOH frequencies, hence 4885 is NOT // to

Re: "Radio Free Korea" - VOH - Echo of Hope - Ron Howard Jun 30, 2017 00:28 UTC No.2377
Thanks to Chris Kadlec, an expert on matters relating to Korea, who
posted the following to WRTH Facebook page, in response to my
posting there today. Helpful info!

"Ron, I basically posted this same news yesterday on this same page,
[I missed seeing his posting - Ron] minus the translations which I am
too busy to bother with honestly, though I have the full recording of
the 60-minute broadcast that is being looped as of a few days ago
(thanks for the more detailed post!).

4885 has gone rogue and is looping each hour with IDs about every
10 minutes. Just a correction on the Radio Free Korea mention:
RFK is a different station, AM 1143. However, of course, they're
basically all run by the same people at the NIS [National Intelligence
Service, the chief intelligence agency of South Korea - Ron] from the
same tower sites (which I've also posted photos of some times in the
past). This would be the equivalent of "stunting" I think. They're messing
around with their frequencies and programming and North Korea is doing
the same right now too. So who knows what they're up to with an RFK
[SA]ID in there...!!"

Re: Bhutan - BBS - Ron Howard Jul 01, 2017 15:30 UTC No.2385
BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, tuned in at 1330 till off just after 1400, on
July 1. Nowadays I do not often listen at this time period, so cannot
say if this was an anomaly extended broadcast or a new schedule,
but certainly was a pleasant surprise; poor reception. 1330-1354
with call-in program in vernacular; callers singing indigenous songs;
as it was via the phone, of course no accompanying music, just solo
singing; adults calling in, except for one rather young girl (please
listen to my audio) who also sang a song; 1354 end of program
and went to their unique indigenous music and singing till 1400.

My audio posted at http://goo.gl/9eQm8V ,

Ron, listening at Asilomar State Beach, California

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Jul 04, 2017 04:01 UTC No.2387
BHUTAN[non-log]. 6035, BBS. Regarding my July 1 reception
till just after 1400: July 2 & 3 found no BBS, after starting to check
at 1230. So my reception would seem to have been a one day only
anomaly?

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville.

June 28, cut off at 1159*.

June 29, not broadcasting today; clearly off the air.

June 30, at 1154 pop song by Police - "Every Little Thing She
Does Is Magic"; 1200* suddenly off.

July 1, station jingle and SA/ID, then cut off at 1201*.

July 2 (Sunday), 1013-1206* mostly religious (Christian) songs in
English; DJ in Pidgin; PSAs in English regarding general election.

July 3, at 1201, SA/ID for "NBC Bougainville"; instrumental tune "My
Heart Will Go On"; PNG bird call and into the "NBC News in brief"
with sound bites; cut off at 1203*.

BTW - Through July 3, RRI Palangkaraya remains off the air on 3325.

KOREA SOUTH. 4885, Echo of Hope VOH. Regarding my recent
reporting of the "Radio Free Korea" SA/ID here: thanks to Amano-san for
explaining what I actually heard. The program's name that is looped
every hour is called "Radio Broadcasting Guide." As such it provides
a lot of info about Korean stations, with segments with many different
singing jingle IDs, as well as clips of different stations spoken SA/IDs, which
is what I heard with "Radio Free Korea." Recently at 1123 & 1223, am
hearing "V O A World News" SA/IDs in English, whereas most of the
program is in Korean. Thanks again to Amano-san for his helpful
assistance.

MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio. Last June 26 (Monday) from 1220
to 1229, heard an English language lesson. Checked on Monday, July 3,
from 1215 to 1245, but no English heard. The 26th was an anomaly?

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. Thanks to Timm Breyel (Malaysia) for posting
to WRTH Facebook page an official announcement from NBC (June 29),
titled "NBC increases coverage for the 2017 general election." NBC has
reactivated three medium wave transmitters. They are at Vanimo (Sandaun
Province), Lae (Morobe Province) and Kimbe (West New Britain Province),
all done with the help of aid from the Australian government. "He [NBC
Managing Director, Mr. Kora Nou] said people should have a clear radio
service on the 'AM' band" and also "He said NBC is continuing to examine
all its transmitters nationwide to see if it can also increase FM radio and TV
coverage elsewhere in the country."

Sad to say the announcement never once mentioned SW radio.

Re: Myanmar Radio with English lesson - Ron Howard Jul 05, 2017 14:16 UTC No.2393
On July 5 (Wednesday), at 1236, on 5985, tuned into an
English language lesson ("Say It In English") already in
progress; continuing dialog about Tom's aunt learning to
drive and having an accident ("If only she has listened
to me . . . If only she had been more careful . . . If only
she had stopped in time," etc.); also in Burmese; closing
program SA/ID in English at 1247. My local sunrise was at
1253 UT, whereas Yangon sunset was at 1212 UT.

So clearly the "Say It In English" lesson is broadcast on
both Monday & Wednesday here, but the exact timing of
which is not known.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1122-1201*,
July 5. Usual format of playing pop songs (Journey -
"Don't Stop Believing," etc.), but with anomaly of no DJ
today; just a minute of dead air between songs; 1200 SA/ID;
PNG bird call and start of NBC News till cut off.

CHINA. 6035, PBS Yunnan, 1204-1210*, July 5. Non-stop
EZL music till suddenly cut off; BBS/Bhutan not on the air.

INDONESIA. 9525.95, VOI, on July 7, at 1033 through
subsequent checking till 1207, found only open carrier; no
modulation/audio at all.

KOREA SOUTH. 5920, Voice of Freedom, 1115, July 5.
Why do they stay on this jammed frequency, when their
ex 5940 is clear of any jamming? VOF signal often does
fairly well against the jamming, e.g. July 7, at 1120 almost
fair reception even with jamming. Ex 6135 is still jammed
with white noise.

RUSSIA. 7345, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk, 1037, July 7.

traditional Yakut clothing - http://goo.gl/xspMww .

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, on July 9,
Sunday, with a second consecutive day of very decent,
above average reception.

1028-1125: Election coverage via "NBC National Radio"
audio feed, in English; many different reports giving the
vote count; "Stay with us for more election 2017 coverage,"
ad for mobile phone service, "Welcome back to election
2017 coverage"; promos and PSA about "building a great
nation" and for "NBC TV"; "NBC National Radio updates";
"NBC official broadcaster of the 2017 election."

1125-1201*: Local "NBC Bougainville" ID and into the usual
Sunday program of religious (Christian) songs mostly in
English; DJ in Pidgin; suddenly cut off.

A point of interest - PNG during this election has over 3,300
candidates running for office!

KOREA SOUTH. 4885. Echo of Hope VOH, on July 9
with anomaly of only hearing a strong open carrier the
whole time; no modulation at all; starting at tune in of
1054 through last check at 1230.

It will be recalled that 4885 has recently been running a
different program ("Radio Broadcasting Guide") than all
the other VOH frequencies (3985 // 5995 // 6250 // 6350
// 9100), which today were all on as usual with normal
audio at quick checks at 1131 & 1218.

5920, Voice of Freedom, July 9, brief check at 1135, found
them somewhat stronger than the jamming; propagation
must be currently favoring VOF, rather than N. Korea
jamming.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang, noted after

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, on July 11,
with special extended broadcast.

1028-1203: Continuing special election coverage; same
format as I reported July 9, with many different reports
giving election results; some breaks for ads, promos and
PSAs.

Extended broadcast 1203-1320+:

1203-1208: NBC News in English.

1208-1230: DJ in Pidgin, playing pop Pacific Islands songs.

1230-1245: "NBC Bougainville update," in Pidgin, with long
list of the voting results.

1245-1320+: more Pacific Islands songs.

July 10, noted 1201* cut off, so today was the first day of
their extended broadcasting.

My local sunrise was at 1257 UT. Wonderful to hear this NBC
station without any Indonesian (RRI Palangkaraya) QRM, as
they remain absent here,

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, tuned in at
1018 and still on the air at 1318, on July 12, with second
day of extended broadcasting well past the normal 1200*
cut off. Today with completely different format than heard
on July 9 and 11; didn't carry the "NBC National Radio"
audio feed in English; instead had local segments of
non-stop music (John Denver - "Take Me Home, Country
Roads," etc.) and segments with the election results in
Pidgin; a number of local SA/IDs.

CHINA. 7118-USB, VC01 (Chinese Military numbers station),
at 0957, on July 12. Numbers in Chinese. Strange they would
now be in the ham band! Thanks to tip from Hiroyuki
Komatsubara (Japan). My audio at http://goo.gl/5EQ24m .

INDONESIA. 9525.95, VOI. Years ago, who would have
thought we would see the day that this country only had
one active SW station? Yes, now RRI Ternate (3344.86)
has been silent for several days. As I have been reporting
recently, RRI Palangkaraya (3325) has been absent and
still so through July 12.

VOI heard July 12, at 1001, with news in English; QRM from
OTH radar.

Ron, in San Francisco, at Ocean Beach, Calif.

Re: RRI returns to 3325 kHz. - Ron Howard Jul 13, 2017 14:26 UTC No.2410
July 13, at 1117, heard NBC Bougainville reception, on 3325, with moderate QRM from RRI, which
had been silent for a while. By 1150, mixing together at equal strength, producing a mess here.

Today NBC with DJ in Pidgin; playing pop songs; no election coverage noted and not running the
NBC National Radio audio feed; RRI signal improving the whole time. Suppose I should be glad
to hear the return of RRI, but in truth, I had very much been enjoying NBC with clear reception!

NBC at 1200 continued on with extended broadcast; no NBC news, just continuing DJ in Pidgin
and pop songs, while RRI went into the usual Jakarta news feed, which ended at 1225 with
patriotic song and then local SA/ID. Tuned out at 1235.

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Jul 15, 2017 03:06 UTC No.2416
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 0957-1016 &
1101-1110, July 14. Local programs in Pidgin; no "NBC
National Radio" audio feed today; local segments of
election results (vote count) and pop songs; by 1110
started to hear QRM from RRI, making reception of
NBC unpleasant, so will not be reporting this as much
as when NBC was QRM-free. Thanks to Hiroyuki
Komatsubara (Japan), who today reported an extended
broadcast here at 1250, mixing with RRI.

CHINA. 6035, PBS Yunnan (Voice of Shangri-la), 1135-
1203*, July 14. In Chinese; some EZL songs; 1201 the
usual filler instrumental music till cut off; weak, but clear
frequency. No BBS/Bhutan heard today.

6060, Sichuan PBS-2, 1214, July 14. A quick check today
confirms again what I have recently been hearing - Cuba
is now here (1100-1400), mostly blocking the former clear
reception of PBS-2; now making a mess.

7118-USB, VC01 (Chinese Military numbers station), at 0950,
on July 14. Numbers in Chinese; still in the ham band where
they shouldn't be.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang, on July 14,
at 1017, with just open carrier; by 1110 some faint audio;
unusable. Thanks to Hiroyuki Komatsubara (Japan), who
today reported an extended broadcast here at 1250.

3275, NBC Southern Highlands[non-log]. July 14, continues
silent.

3365, NBC Milne Bay[non-log]. July 14, continues silent.

7324.95, Wantok Radio Light[non-log]. On July 14, did
one of my periodic checks here at 0948 (before the *1000
sign on of CRI) and found 7325 a clear frequency with no
stations present. Aoki now shows "7325" in red, with an "x"
("off the air").

RUSSIA. 7345, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk, 1025-1100,
July 14. Above average reception; music program (folk,
ballads, pop, etc.); 1050 usual SA/ID ("Radio Sakha") and
gave phone number; 1100 IS (Jew's harp - khomus) and
4+1 time pips; then at almost 1101 covered by strong
CRI sign on here. This is one of my favorite stations for
listening to their nice music. My audio http://goo.gl/XqY8gP .

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 0947-1041,
July 15. Local (non-NBC National Radio) segments with
the vote count in Pidgin and pop songs (Celine Dion -
"My Heart Will Go On," etc.); by 1041, had QRM from
RRI.

July 16 (Sunday), 0954-1106. Local (non-NBC National Radio)
segments with the vote count in Pidgin and religious (Christian)
songs as usual on Sunday; local SA/IDs; 1030 noted Indonesia
underneath with reciting from the Qur'an.

No extended broadcast today; instead an early sign off; gone
by 1156, leaving frequency clear for Pro 1 RRI Palangkaraya,
which by 1211 was doing very well with the Jakarta news
audio feed.

CHINA. 7118-USB, VC01 (Chinese Military numbers
station), 1112 & 1136, July 15. Numbers in Chinese; fair.
July 16, at 1150 & 1225; fair.

KOREA NORTH. 3277 (AM), V28 ("The Parrot"), 1232-
1240*, July 16. With Korean numbers; poor, but signal
improving.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang, anomaly
on July 16, as not heard at usual checking of 0951, 1026
& 1042, but was on the air at tune in of 1158 till cut off at
1230*; giving vote count, saying the number and then
repeating with individual digits (e.g. 816, then 8 1 6); poor.
Madang come back on the air later, as Hiroyuki Komatsubara
today reports them on the air at 1340, so perhaps anomaly
due to some type of transmitter problem today?

3275, NBC Southern Highlands, at 0951, 1026 & 1042, on
July 16, heard a decent level open carrier here that I believe
was them; off the air by 1050; never any audio.

3365, NBC Milne Bay[non-log]. July 16, continues silent.

PERU. 4810, Radio Logos, 1113, July 16. Unusually good
signal, with religious songs. Rare for me to hear them at this
level! My audio at http://goo.gl/ZZncpr . Also heard at the
same time in Japan by DFS - http://goo.gl/K5eUqR .

TIBET. PBS Xizang. July 16, back on the air again after
being silent for several months. Heard 4920 in Tibetan,
causing severe QRM for AIR Chennai at 1209; also heard
// 6200, at the same time, which was in the clear before the
sign on of Voice of Jinling (China), which happens about
*1230, but fortunately VOJ is much stronger than Tibet,
so very light Tibet QRM after 1230.

Maybe the others are also back today? Needs confirmation!

Chinese : 4820, 5935, 6050, 7240, 7450 kHz.
Tibetan : 4905, 6025, 6110, 6130, 7255, 7385 kHz.

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Jul 17, 2017 14:16 UTC No.2422
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, July 17, with
outstanding reception; 1012-1028*; in Pidgin; "regional"
voting results for "North Bougainville," with long list of
candidates and their vote count (one received 18 votes);
"total number of allowable ballot papers," etc.; fairly
readable; suddenly off, leaving a very weak RRI
Palangkaraya in the clear, with reciting from the Qur'an.

*1034 suddenly back on with music program of pop Pacific
Islands songs; still on the air at my last check at 1220. My
readable audio at http://goo.gl/C8kj14 .

KOREA SOUTH. On July 17:

Echo of Hope - VOH, at 1138:

3985 // 5995 // 6250 // 6350, but found 9100 clearly off the air
which is rare for them to be silent; leaving frequency clear for
faint SOH (Taiwan) reception, which is normally heard far
underneath VOH.

At the same time, VOH on 4885, as usual, with program
"Radio Broadcasting Guide," in Korean and not // to the
other frequencies.

Voice of Freedom, first day back on former 6135 (ex 5920),
at 1144. Both 6135 and ex 5920 both heavily jammed, while
former ex 5940 remains a clear frequency. I again wonder
why they don't go back to clear 5940?

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang, July 17, with

song; 1047, in Pidgin with election results; still on at 1220.

RUSSIA. reactivated 7295, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk,
1022-1104, July 18. Phone conversation; EZL music;
1051 usual "Radio Sakha" SA/ID; recently noticed they no
longer run a series of commercial announcements after
the ID as they did in the past; best reception in LSB to
get away from moderate QRM from 7300. Several times
stronger than // 7345, which was much weaker than usual;
1100 IS (Jew's harp - khomus) and 4+1 time pips.

At *1101, CRI (7345) signed on and blocked the weak R.
Sakha reception; certainly after 1101, no question that
7295 is the best frequency for me to hear them on. I last
heard them here on Feb 26, so very nice to again hear
this former frequency active again!

election results and mostly pop songs with DJ.

The significance of today's broadcast is that there was no
trace of any RRI Palangkaraya signal; no carrier at any
time. A short lived reactivation?

CHINA. 7118-USB, VC01 (Chinese Military numbers
station), 1134, July 19, with "ham jam," which is a ham
in CW jamming the Chinese numbers station. My audio
at http://goo.gl/At9G2L . Feedback from Lou (VK5EEE)
in Australia: "A pity when hams don't do this with their
call signs to be legal. Sending a test VVV is perfectly
legal so long as ID is given at required minimum periods.
It can encourage additional 'ham jammers' to test their
equipment, but a solitary VVV without callsign is likely
to end up being solitary and ineffective. CW QRM
especially Contest QRM sends our Indonesian pirates
off the 40m band, so it can be effective!"

MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, at 1205, on July 19.
Special coverage of Myanmar vs Singapore soccer match;
in vernacular; usual background sounds for such an event
(crowd cheering, loudspeaker, etc.); preempted regular
programming; at half-time break, played indigenous music
till resuming coverage again.

feature of the seasons in Japan.

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Jul 24, 2017 01:26 UTC No.2429
BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, 1210-1223*, July 22. Announcer in vernacular;
usual short break for their unique indigenous instrumental music at 1215;
suddenly off; PBS Yunnan already off. BBS is not often heard.

BOUGAINVILLE. This Sunday (July 23), listening mostly from 1042 to
1325+. All local programming in Pidgin; frequent SA/IDs for "NBC
Bougainville"; music program (some Sunday religious songs, pop Pacific
Islands music and C&W songs [Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers - "Islands
In The Stream," etc.]); no election results today, but several mentions of
"regional seats"; yet another day with an extended broadcast past their
former 1200*. For a while (1042 to about 1130) did have some RRI
Palangkaraya light QRM underneath, but NBC was much stronger and
their signal improved to almost fair at times.

My report on July 19, for 1245+, with "no trace of any RRI Palangkaraya
signal" is now explained by Atsunori Ishida, who lists RRI that day at 1500,
so a very late sign on.

NBC Madang (3260), on July 23, also running past 1325+, but very different
format than NBC Bougainville; instead with a lot of info in Pidgin about the
vote count, but not very readable, unlike Bougainville. NBC on 3275 & 3365
continue silent.

CHINA. 6035, PBS Yunnan, 1203-1216+, July 20. Extended broadcast
past normal 1200*; non-stop EZL instrumental music till suddenly cut off;
BBS/Bhutan off the air during this time today.

INDONESIA. 9525.95, VOI, 1040, July 21. In English with music program;
1056 in stilted Chinese; 1213 in Japanese.

KOREA NORTH[non]. back to former 5965, Shiokaze/Sea Breeze, via
Yamata, ex 7215. At 1300, on July 21; in Korean with no jamming yet;
fair-good.

July 22, first day of heavy N. Korea jamming, on 5965, at 1246; before
the *1300 of Shiokaze.

MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio. Special coverage of Myanmar vs
Brunei, in the U23 soccer games (under age 23), on July 21, at 1139 and
still going at 1255; seemed to perhaps be a TV audio feed, as less than
full spoken coverage.

July 23, with coverage of the Myanmar vs Australia U23 soccer game;
these matches being held in Yangon; heard at 1239; fair.

For those that are interested, here is video of today's highlights of
the U23 soccer match between Myanmar and Australia, that was
held in Thuwunna Stadium, Yangon:

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Jul 25, 2017 20:36 UTC No.2430

BHUTAN. 6035, BBS (tentative), 1345-1400*, July 25. Noted definite
open carrier, but unable to pull in any audio. Cut off time
matches my positive BBS reception here on July 1, so believe it
was again them with an extended broadcast.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville.

July 24, listening on-and-off 1058-1249+; mostly non-stop pop hit songs
("Another Day in Paradise," "True Colors," etc.); very few announcers in
Pidgin, so no election results today, but still with extended broadcast past
1200. No RRI Palangkaraya QRM noted today, due to another late sign on
per Atsunori Ishida ("-1400-1702* LA.").

July 25, at 1140, again with music program noted till tuned out at 1302.

INDIA. 4970, AIR Shillong, at 1237, on July 25. Start of the usual Tuesday
滴eart to Heart・program; DJ in English playing EZL hit love songs ("Can't
Help Falling in Love," Celine Dion - "The Power of Love," etc.).

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Jul 26, 2017 15:20 UTC No.2431
BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, 1206-1224+, July 26. PBS Yunnan (China)
cut off at 1206*, leaving weak, but in the clear BBS; announcer in
vernacular with usual short breaks at 1213 and 1216 for the unique
indigenous instrumental music; 1224 into indigenous music and
singing. Found off the air at 1246 check, so did not go through to
1400 today. My local sunrise today was at 1309 UTC, while sunset
at Thimphu was 1253 UTC.

This is encouraging to find them running past PBS Yunnan going
off the air.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1058, July 26. A moment
of nostalgia here, with playing of the song "Waltzing Matilda," by a
heavily accented Australian singer. 1109 - Dire Straits with "Walk Of Life."
No extended broadcast today, but instead was off the air before 1152.
At which time I heard Pro 1 RRI Palangkaraya in the clear with almost
fair reception; well above the norm for them, with time pips at 1200 and
Jakarta news audio feed at 1201.

Noted 3260 (NBC Madang - PNG), at 1254 and subsequent checking
through to 1325, with no modulation/audio at all, but decent level open
carrier.

Re: Sikkim - AIR Gangtok - Ron Howard Jul 26, 2017 22:32 UTC No.2432
SIKKIM. 4835, AIR Gangtok. July 26, actually had some audio
today 1302-1314. Slightly above threshold level audio; my local
sunrise today was at 1309 UT, while sunset at Gangtok was 1257
UT, so very nice grayline reception. Not heard every day.

The SWLer in me still misses ABC Alice Springs NT (Tony Delroy's
"Nightlife" show, etc.), but the DXer in me is very happy to be able
to hear Gangtok in the clear!

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Jul 31, 2017 00:53 UTC No.2438

BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, 1231-1236*, July 30. In vernacular, with
phone-in program; OM chatting with young girls (no singing today);
best in USB to get away from strong CNR1 on 6030, which was
playing loud music today; PBS Yunnan (China) already off the air
here.

CHINA. 4790, CNR1, 1239, July 30. This program jamming already
on the air, in anticipation of BBC Uzbek (Tajikistan) signing on at *1300;
// CNR1 on 6125.

INDIA. 4970, AIR Shillong, 1313, July 30. Ending the usual Sunday
show 鼎ounty Roads,・with C&W song (Juice Newton - "Angel of the
Morning"); DJ in English; almost fair; 1315 into Hindi.

INDONESIA. 3325, Pro 1 RRI Palangkaraya, 1135, July 30. Heard
only RRI here, whereas earlier (1030-1115) noted NBC Bougainville
with their usual Sunday religious programming, so no extended
broadcast and instead with an early sign off. From 1240 to 1301,
RRI in Bahasa Indonesia, with music program of pop songs in English
(Righteous Brothers - "Unchained Melody," Led Zeppelin - "All My
Love," etc.); many singing "Pro Satu RRI Palangkaraya" jingles;
1300 time pips; fair.

9525.95, VOI, 1339, July 30. Reading reception report sent via email;
in English; poor.

KOREA NORTH. Briefly noted July 30, that all their jamming was
off the air 1226-1228; on 3985, 5995, 6015, 6135 (clear frequency -
no station there, as VOF was down on 5920, as usual), 6350. Whereas
on 5920, heard Voice of Freedom with no jamming at all today.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang 1218-1237, July 30.
With election results in Pidgin; extended broadcast here unlike NBC
Bougainville on 3325, which was off the air by 1135. Good strength
open carrier still heard at 1326, but by then with no modulation/audio.

3275, NBC Southern Highlands[non-log], on July 30, not heard.

3365, NBC Milne Bay[non-log], on July 30, continues silent.

VIETNAM. 7906-USB // 8294-USB, Ho Chi Minh Radio Coast
Station, *1305-1310*, July 30. Started and ended with the usual tones;
in Vietnamese; started with SA/ID and then marine conditions; both fair.
Ho Chi Minh Radio is the most powerful coastal station, so is usually
well heard. Operated by VISHIPEL (Vietnam Maritime Communications
and Electronics LLC).

AUSTRALIA[non-log]. 5055, the future 4KZ - While daily monitoring
for the activation of this low powered station, am finding more and more
USB chatter in Spanish. My audio at http://goo.gl/19yTQf . Seems I may
have some QRM to contend with whenever 4KZ starts up. At 1234, on
Aug 2.

BHUTAN[non-logs]. 6035, BBS. On Aug 1, noted PBS Yunnan (China)
till it cut off about 1208, with non-stop easy-listening filler music.
No Bhutan heard here today, unlike yesterdays BBS 1219*.

Aug 2, with PBS Yunnan (China) going off at 1200*, after being in Chinese,
with EZL song. No BBS today after PBS went off.

So BBS is only on after 1200 erratically!

CHINA. 5050, Beibu Bay Radio. It was back in Sept. 2016, that during
the 1300-1400 time period they changed from being in Chinese, over to
Vietnamese, but Aug 3, at 1340 was clearly back again in Chinese; SA in
English - "Beibu Bay Radio"; 1400 time pips; time given in Chinese and
English ("Beijing time is now 10 PM,"); "Guangxi Beibu Bay Radio" SA
in English; briefly in English with "B B R Evening News" intro; into news
in Vietnamese. Have not heard AIR Aizawl (India) here for a while now.

So is 1300-1400 now completely back to Chinese? Is the former brief
English segment still at about 1320? New schedule? Needs more
monitoring!

INDONESIA. 3325, RRI Palangkaraya, 1406, Aug 3. Palangkaraya
local news; ending at 1413 with the playing of the patriotic/national
song 泥irgahayu Indonesiaku.・br>
It will be recalled that Aug 17th is Independence Day in Indonesia, so
all month long they will be playing 泥irgahayu Indonesiaku・at the end
of all their news programs.

Voice of Indonesia, back on the former 9524.95 (ex 9525.95), on Aug 2,
in Chinese at 1138; in Japanese at 1226; at 1315, SA & frequencies in
English; "Today in History," "Focus"; close to being readable, but not
quite. Aug 3, still on 9524.95.

KOREA NORTH[non]. 5965, Shiokaze/Sea Breeze, via Yamata, *1300,
Aug 3. As it's Thursday, checking for English; yes and also unjammed
today; 1330 repeat of first half hour. My audio http://goo.gl/jTVYdd (Ron
Howard, oceanside at Pacific Grove, CA)

KOREA SOUTH. 5920, Voice of Freedom, on Aug 2, at 1246. Being
jammed with pulsating noise, but fortunately not the heavy white noise
jamming that is still up on ex 6135, so reception not so bad. My audio at
http://goo.gl/VNkyxw .

Aug 3, found VOF back on 6135 (ex 5920), at 1139 and subsequent
checking till 1425; very much blocked by white noise jamming, while
ex 5920 had the usual lighter pulsating noise jamming.

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Aug 05, 2017 03:15 UTC No.2447
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1119-1201*, Aug 4.
Reception above the norm, but with summertime QRN (static)
and light QRM from RRI Palangkaraya; fortunately for me, NBC
was much stronger; in English & Pidgin with many mentions of
"on the island"; 1123 Public Service Announcement in English
for benefits ("Bring your registration card and ID"); DJ in Pidgin
playing pop Pacific Islands songs; 1155 DJ with SA ("NBC
Bougainville broadcasting 95 point 5, FM band . . 3 point
3 2 5 kilohertz, 90 meter band, shortwave one"); "Friday night,
Friday number four." After 1201* cut off, RRI Palangkaraya
was in the clear with audio feed of the Jakarta news.

My audio at http://goo.gl/oowoyk .

CHINA. 5050, Beibu Bay Radio, 1300-1400, Aug 4. Yes, they
have reverted back to their pre-Sept. 2016 schedule; mostly in
Chinese, but now with no brief English segment. They continue
with the previous format of having a brief Thai language segment,
today heard 1331+, otherwise in Chinese.

6200, Voice of Jinling. This is a very cosmopolitan station! For over
a month now, just after sign on, have been hearing nice traditional
French songs (very entertaining!). Aug 4, at 1238 & 1247 with French
songs, otherwise in Chinese, with what sounded like many commercial
announcements; very light QRM from Xizang PBS (Tibet, via Lhasa),
also on frequency. My audio at http://goo.gl/9eY1GV .

KOREA SOUTH. 6135, Voice of Freedom (ex 5920). Aug 4, still
heard here with the usual white noise jamming, but today VOF with
about the best ever reception at 1021 and subsequent checking
till 1237.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang. Aug 4, running longer
than 3325; pop song (Little River Band - "Cool Changes"); on-air phone
calls in Pidgin; 1224* cut off. Since the end of the election results, note
Madang has had a good number of these call-in shows, which I assume
are callers commenting on the recent election. Not nearly as strong as
NBC Bougainville (3325).

3275, NBC Southern Highlands[non-log], on Aug 4, not heard.

3365, NBC Milne Bay[non-log], on Aug 4, continues silent.

INDONESIA. 3325, Pro 1 RRI Palangkaraya, 1139, Aug 5, with
NBC Bougainville clearly off the air at this time. Almost fair reception
at 1232, with audio feed of the Jakarta news in Bahasa Indonesia,
with item about the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations)
meeting being held today in Manila; short sound bite in English of
Philippines Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano's ASEAN
speech - "We now enjoy peace, security and stability in the region.
More importantly . . ."; ending the news at 1234, by playing the
patriotic/national song 泥irgahayu Indonesiaku・ SA "Pro Satu RRI
Palangkaraya."

It will be recalled that this Aug 17th is Independence Day in Indonesia,
so all month long RRI will be playing 泥irgahayu Indonesiaku・at the
end of their news programs.

dialogue between "Mr. Harris" and "Tom," who wants Tom to take the
morning 7:00 train to Manchester; "The meeting is very important.
Don't miss the train"; Tom works for a company that "makes some
of the finest clocks and watches in the world," but he is "never on
time for anything"; he missed the train and then rushes to take a
taxi to the airport to catch the 8:00 plane to Manchester; 1227 end
of "Say It In English"; fairly readable, but background noise almost
like low level white noise jamming. My local sunrise was at 1318
UTC, whereas Yangon sunset was at 1204 UTC.

RUSSIA. 7345, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk, 1255-1325, on Aug 7.
Surprisingly strong signal, but mixing with CRI; 1300 IS (Jew's harp -
khomus) and time pips; 1300-1325 unusual format that I have never
heard before after ToH; non-stop traditional indigenous songs. My

Re: Echo of Hope - VOH anomaly on 4885 kHz. - Ron Howard Aug 08, 2017 15:22 UTC No.2451

KOREA SOUTH. 4885, Echo of Hope - VOH, on Aug 8, instead
of the normal starting and ending at the ToH for the
one hour program "Radio Broadcasting Guide," which is
repeated again every hour, today was far out of sync and
had some transmitter problems; 1303-1320*, *1322-1323*,
*1327+; at 1322 bell/gong rung slowly three times and regular
intro to the program; normally this would have been at 1303,
so today about 19 minutes out of sync; the next hour at 1420
and 1423, there was no transmitter problem, but still out of sync
by the same amount of time; good reception.

had only a faint open carrier below threshold level from RRI Palangkaraya.

INDIA. 4970, AIR Shillong, 1306, Aug 9. Noted a surprising bad rap (or
hip hop?) song, filled with very strong language of mostly swear words.

English. My audio at http://goo.gl/kiWzwK , without the rap song!

Re: North Korea (DPRK) anomaly - Ron Howard Aug 10, 2017 21:21 UTC No.2454
KOREA SOUTH. What with all the current news stories about North
Korea (DPRK), was interesting to note that on Aug 10, there was a
major anomaly, with about one hour of no jamming at all from DPRK.
A very rare treat to hear ROK stations without the normally strong
interference from the north.

Echo of Hope - VOH:

6350, with their third program, not // to other VOH frequencies;
1219-1228 and subsequently till jamming started up between
1241-1248; heard with QRM from some type of pulsating noise
(believe not DPRK jamming).

subsequently till jamming started up between 1241-1248. See
below for later 6250 UNID.

4885, with the regular "Radio Broadcasting Guide" program in Korean;
quick check at 1217 and subsequently till jamming started up between
1241-1248. Program being out of sync on the 8th proved to be a one
day only anomaly. Now back to program starting and ending at ToH.
This frequency is always free of jamming.

Voice of the People:

3910 // 3930 // 4450 // 6520 // 6600, at 1230, all free from jamming till
it started up between 1241-1248, but 4450 did have strong QRM.

KBS Hanminjok Bangsong 1 (6015). Free of jamming 1203-1210
and subsequently till jamming started up between 1241-1248; news
in Korean; ending each item with "K B S News" in English; some brief
sound bites in English; fair-good.

Voice of Freedom (6135). No jamming 1151-1200 and subsequently
till jamming started up between 1241-1248; fair-good.

UNID. 6250, perhaps Echo of Unification (via DPRK); at 1241; two
equally strong stations here; one clearly being VOH (// 3985, et al.).
UNID not noted earlier, so *1230 per Aoki? No DPRK jamming here
till sometime between 1241-1248.

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Aug 12, 2017 21:15 UTC No.2470
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, on Aug 11, at 1201*;
RRI Palangkaraya also on frequency.

PNG - NBC Madang (3260), on Aug 11, with 1206*.

INDIA. RE: My "4895, possibly AIR Kurseong? At 1246, Aug 10" log,
I guessed wrong - please see MONGOLIA

FIJI. 558, Radio Fiji One (presumed), 1245-1315, Aug 12. Mostly
non-stop religious singing and music; weak, but fairly clear. My
audio at http://goo.gl/oUfrk3 . My local sunrise was at 1322 UTC.

KASHMIR. 4950, AIR Radio Kashmir, Srinagar (presumed), 1341,
Aug 11. Nice surprise to actually catch some audio above threshold
level; clearly in Hindi. Rather a rare event for me, as most days only
hear their open carrier!

MALAYSIA. 11665, Wai FM, via RTM, from Kajang, 1404, Aug 11.
Unique singing SA in vernacular (one of my favorites!), just after the
news.

MONGOLIA. reactivated 4895, Mongolian Radio 2 (presumed),
1246, Aug 10 and again Aug 11, at 1131, through subsequent
checking till 1350; heard only an open carrier; unable to detect any
modulation/audio at my QTH.

Thanks to feedback from Dave Valko and Hiroyuki Komatsubara,
who were also hearing this, but they had faint audio that indicated
Mongolia and not India. Mongolia not on their other frequency of
4830; while 7260 is now being reported with a het from a third station,
which might also be Mongolia (plus China & Vanuatu). Needs more
monitoring! Website - http://www.mnb.mn/ .

MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, 1211-1259, Aug 11. Special live
coverage of the Myanmar U18 vs Inter Milan U18, with friendly soccer
match held at YTC Thuwunna Stadium (Yangon); 1221 noted half time
break with filler music, till coverage started up again; seemed to perhaps
be a TV audio feed, as less than full spoken coverage; usual background
sounds of the fans. Highlights at Youtube - http://goo.gl/JDwjtn .

SOLOMON ISLANDS[non-log]. 5020 & 9545, SIBC. Aug 11, at 1132,
found both frequencies silent.

Re: India - Eve of Independence Day special Aug 14 - Ron Howard Aug 14, 2017 18:22 UTC No.2473
List of AIR // stations heard on the eve of Independence Day; Aug 14,
from 1330+ UTC; intro in English and Hindi; National Anthem,
which is rarely heard on SW, except for these special occasions;
president of India addressed the nation; first in Hindi and then
repeated again in English, which started at 1351; longer than
usual speech; for the past five years was first given in English,
then followed again in Hindi. The last time in Hindi, then English
was in 2011. Independence Day is tomorrow, the 15th.

4760 AIR Leh - not heard.
4760 AIR Port Blair - only an open carrier; no audio.
4800 AIR Hyderabad - only CNR1 heard.
4810 AIR Bhopal - heard.
4835 AIR Gangtok - heard with definite audio.
4895 AIR Kurseong - not on the air, nor was Mongolia present.
4910 AIR Jaipur - mostly open carrier and maybe faint audio?
4920 AIR Chennai - heard, but unusually weak underneath Tibet.
4950 AIR Radio Kashmir, Srinagar - heard with definite audio.
4970 AIR Shillong - heard.
5010 AIR Thiruvananthapuram - heard, but very weak audio.
5040 AIR Jeypore - heard; note audio link below.
5050 AIR Aizawl - not heard; only Beibu Bay Radio (China) present.
9380 AIR, via Aligarh - only an open carrier. AIR?
9865 AIR, via Bangalore - well heard.

My AIR Jeypore audio of NA - http://goo.gl/7h9Vjd .

So for me, this year's highlight was hearing definite audio from both
AIR Gangtok and AIR Radio Kashmir, Srinagar!

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Aug 16, 2017 17:40 UTC No.2475
CHINA. 6035, PBS Yunnan (Voice of Shangri-la), 1212-1241,
Aug 15. Running well past their normal 1200*; EZL instrumental
music of hit songs ("Bridge Over Troubled Water," etc.); still on
when tuned out at 1241. No BBS/Bhutan heard today.

7270, PBS Nei Menggu, // to spur on 7266, at 1225, Aug 13.
First noted an UNID carrier on 7266 back on March 19, but
never heard any audio there till today, when it was clearly //.

BTW - Azad Kashmir Radio, on 7265, has not been heard for a
long time now, during the QRM free time of 1215+.

MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio. August 16, with special live
coverage of the Southeast Asian Games soccer/football match with
Myanmar vs Laos; pregame intro at 1240, with playing of the National
Anthems of both countries; 1245 start of coverage of the game (TV
audio feed); fair. Youtube - http://goo.gl/JuULYy , with intro anthems.

RUSSIA. 7345, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk, 1335, Aug 16. Music by
a Jew's harp (khomus) and with singing. Certainly this unique musical
instrument is very popular in this region of Siberia; actually stronger
signal than the CNR1 QRM. 7295 remains silent.

For those interested in the khomus, note http://khomus.com/ , a
Siberian website.

KOREA SOUTH[non-log]. Voice of Freedom, on Aug 20, no signal
at all from them at 1203 and subsequent checking through 1344.

6135, the recent frequency used by VOF; just the normal white noise
jamming, but clearly no VOF.

5920, first day I have found this frequency clear of the usual
North Korea pulsating noise jamming, but VOF also not here;
a clear frequency.

5940, clear frequency.

6020, only hearing the usual Vietnam.

Unusual for VOF to be off the air!

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Aug 20, 2017 20:15 UTC No.2478
CHINA. 6035, PBS Yunnan (Voice of Shangri-la), 1200-1201*,
Aug 20. ToH ends their regular programming; start of their EZL
filler music till suddenly off. No BBS/Bhutan today.

6155, CNR2/China Business Radio, 1212-1232, Aug 20. The often
heard, popular variety show "Haiyang Live"; mostly comedy with a
lot of canned laughter, but also pop songs; in Chinese, except for a
brief segment in English ("As many of you prepare to take the National
Higher Education Entrance Examination, I wish you success in your
endeavors . . . Whether you aim to be a doctor, teacher, scientist,
musician, engineer or writer . . . You are the next generation of
leaders for generations to come."); // 6065 // 7315.

The examination is given throughout China to high school students to
determine which university they can attend. A tremendous amount of
pressure on the students to do well, as it greatly affects their future.
Will always remember some years ago, I was in Shanghai during the
day of the exam. Needed to take a taxi someplace, which are normally
very easy to find, as there are so many of them in the city, but that day
all the taxis were occupied by students. Later found out that almost all
the taxis in the city had been reserved to take students to the exam.

7148-USB (ex: 7118-USB), VC01 (Chinese Military numbers station), on
Aug 20, heard at 1138, 1152, 1241 and 1259, with numbers in Chinese;
fair reception. Seems they now like the ham band!

INDIA. 4970, AIR Shillong, 1250, Aug 20. The usual Sunday "Country
Roads" C&W music show with DJ in English; Kenny Rogers, "You
Decorated my Life," etc.

INDIA/MONGOLIA[non-log]. 4895, on Aug 20, at 1155 and subsequent
checking, found frequency free of either Mongolian Radio 2 nor AIR
Kurseong. The reactivation of Mongolia here was indeed very brief!

MYANMAR. 5915, Myanmar Radio, at 1308, on Aug 20, found a greatly
improved reception of this station, that until today had recently been QRMed
by the North Korea jamming of 5920 (against Voice of Freedom, which
sometimes used that frequency); usual QRM from CRI (Russian) on 5915.

BHUTAN. 6035, BBS. On Aug 22, heard PBS Yunnan (China) cut
off at 1204*; BBS not on the air.

Aug 23, at 1150, could make out two stations here; one with pop music
(BBS) and the other with announcers in Chinese (PBS Yunnan), which
cut off at 1200*, leaving BBS in the clear; in vernacular till BBS cut off
at 1207*. Disappointed they did not stay on the air longer! My local
sunrise today was at 1331 UT, while sunset at Thimphu was at 1230 UT.

Aug 24, at 1213, BBS with the normal monologue in vernacular; 1219
brief break for indigenous instrumental music; cut off at 1221*.

MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, 1314, August 21, with special live
coverage of the Southeast Asian Games soccer/football match with
Myanmar vs Malaysia, held at Shah Alam Stadium (Malaysia); fair.

SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC. Rare anomaly before 1159*, Aug 22.
Had no "Evening Devotional," no SA in English and no National Anthem.

Re: Email from Taiwan Central Weather Bureau - Ron Howard Aug 28, 2017 01:53 UTC No.2503
After my Aug 24 reception, emailed my reception report,
with the link to my audio clip, to the Taiwan Central Weather
Bureau. My report was in Google Chinese. Sent via their
contact email form at http://goo.gl/h9b6dY . They replied
on Aug 27, as follows. Ron

Dear Sir,

We are very glad to receive your reception report letter and
will send you a QSL card.

Currently we have two voice broadcasting stations, 5170KHz
and 8117KHz, which comprise a network covering the maritime
space of Taiwan. Both of them are accessible 24 hours. We set
the above SSB radio voice broadcasting system to improve our
weather reporting service for those who work overseas. In the
report, you can get the information in Chinese and Taiwanese
as follows:

1. The latest weather observing data.

2. Weather analysis and weather forecast for the following
three days.

3. Latest typhoon alarm reports will be provided every 1 to 3
hours during typhoon warning period.

4. The latest typhoon report in the North Pacific.

It will be highly appreciated if you introduce our weather
broadcasting systems to your friends. Thank you!

Yours sincerely,
Central Weather Bureau

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Aug 28, 2017 05:58 UTC No.2504

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1124-1151*,
Aug 27. Sunday religious songs till 1130, when switched
over to pop hit songs (Linda Ronstadt - "When Will I Be
Loved," etc.); DJ in Pidgin; suddenly off at 1151*, leaving
a weak RRI in the clear.

On Aug 26, heard 1103-1203*; usual DJ in Pidgin ("Saturday
night . . last hour," etc.); playing pop Pacific Islands songs;
1154 SA with frequencies; entertaining reception, as was
stronger than normal and very light RRI QRM.

NBC Bougainville also heard Aug 25, at 1154; pop song Eric
Carmen - "Hungry Eyes"; suddenly off 1201*.

BTW - NBC Madang (3260), on Aug 26, with cut off at 1216*.

CHINA. 7148-USB, VC01 (Chinese Military numbers station),
on Aug 27; heard at 0937, 1033, 1122 & 1203, with numbers
in Chinese; fair reception. Also // 7564-LSB at 0937, 1033,
but off the air at 1122 & 1203.

7345-USB, V26, 1217, Aug 26. Numbers in Chinese; mixing
with equally strong CRI.

CHINA[and non-log]. 6065 & 6155, CNR2, Aug 27 at 1259+,
found both frequencies silent; whereas CNR2 was on the air
7265 // 7315.

FIJI[non-log]. 558, Radio Fiji One. Normally I daily hear
some type of signal from them, but Aug 27 had no trace of
any carrier here. Just very poor propagation or what?

KOREA SOUTH. 6045, Voice of Freedom, on Aug 25,
26 & 27, 0941+. Continuing on this new frequency with
no hint of any North Korea jamming yet; very strong signal.

Aug 27, noted former VOF frequencies 6135 (still being
jammed), 5920 clear, 5940 clear and 6020 with Vietnam.

MONGOLIA. 4895, Mongolian Radio 2 (suspected), 1235
through subsequent checking till 1322, Aug 26. Only a definite
open carrier; never any modulation/audio; have been monitoring
here daily since their recent very brief reactivation. Also open
carrier on Aug 27; noted at 1051, 1211 & 1252; again with no
audio at all detected. Would like to think this is them, but will
take someone hearing some audio to confirm this!

On Aug 25, Hiroyuki Komatsubara reported "-0915- 4895kHz
UNID carrier, heavy QRM from 4885kHz," but when I checked
at 1130, the carrier was off. Worth keeping an eye on this
frequency.

RUSSIA. 7345, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk, 0948-1030,
Aug 27. Usual SA at 0950 and series of ads; pop music;
1000 with IS (Jew's harp - khomus) and time pips; long
segment of on-air phone calls after the news; fair reception
as CNR1 doesn't sign on till about 1101. 7295 remains
silent. Guess I enjoy this so much as it is the only Russian
station that I hear now!

to the beach and at 0927 heard a very weak open carrier.
Reception of any audio not possible here till my local sunrise,
which was at 1336 UTC. My most distinctive details were at
1334 & 1419, with hearing the unmistakable "Waltzing Matilda,"
as a brief instrumental. Ozy Radio IS? Noted a number of songs,
but not strong enough to be able to SA them. 1402-1411 OM &
YL with what seemed to be the news; 1411 into EZL older hit
songs, but again too weak to SA.

Am not disappointed by this poor reception today, as BBR
(China) on 5050 is normally well heard by me, but today
was extremely poor (unusable), which is rare. Believe
propagation today was rather unique, so on a day with
normal propagation, Ozy Radio could be just fine.

Ron, listening in San Francisco, at Ocean Beach, California

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Aug 30, 2017 22:17 UTC No.2511

AUSTRALIA. 5045, Ozy Radio (presumed). Aug 30 had
much better overall propagation than my 28th reception,
but with that BBR (China) on 5050 was heard with a
decent signal; some of the BBR audio spilled over to
5045, so I had to listen in LSB.

Just like Glenn Hauser, I also noted the assumed utility signal
at 1205, on 5045.8, along with 5045 open carrier, but later
utility was not heard.

At my local sunrise (1337), thought I would start to catch
some audio here, as I did on 28th, but not so; no audio
checking through 1406; just an open carrier today, even
with the better propagation. Completely different reception
than on the 28th, when I had definite audio. Seems every
day will have different reception here. Can only hope Craig
will increase the power in the future.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1134-1138*, on
Aug 30. Above average reception (almost fair); pop songs,
with DJ in Pidgin. After suddenly going off, frequency was
clear (RRI Palangkaraya was very late signing on today!).

BTW - NBC Madang (3260), on Aug 30, cut off at 1149*. So
both these NBC stations cut off earlier than normal. NBC on
3275 & 3365 still remain silent.

CHINA. 6035, PBS Yunnan (Voice of Shangri-la), Aug 30,
noted cut off at 1201*. They never give a closing SA, but
instead usually give the last SA at about 1131; still with the
nice English & Chinese SA - "S W liu(6) ling(0) san(3) wu(5).
Yunnan Radio and Television International, the Voice Shangri-
la". No BBS/Bhutan here today.

INDONESIA. Aug 30, with a rare occurrence! For a period
of time there were no Indonesian stations on SW. None at all.

3325, Pro 1 RRI Palangkaraya. After NBC Bougainville cut
off at 1138*, no hint of RRI; subsequently still off the air, but
by 1232 heard them with fair reception; so came on the air
sometime between 1227-1232; at 1237 ended the Jakarta
news relay, in Bahasa Indonesia, with patriotic/national song
泥irgahayu Indonesiaku・(should be played throughout the
month of August); series of nice SAs for both "Pro Satu RRI
Palangkaraya" and the full "Pro Satu Radio Republik
Indonesia Palangkaraya"; many promos for "audio on
demand . . . audio streaming . . download," for RRI stations;
1400 several RRI Palangkaraya jingles; into their local news;
still with fair reception.

9524.95, VOI, off the air; checked 1215-1347.

KOREA SOUTH. 1566, HLAZ (Far Eastern Broadcasting
Company, FEBC), 1245, Aug 30. Best reception in USB; poor,
but clearly in Japanese (matches schedule); religious organ
music; some days only have an open carrier here.

SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC, 1154, Aug 30. Start of
the usual "Evening Devotional" Christian spot in English; SA
in English, but cut off at 1159* before SA completed.

Amano-san - Thank you very much for the great Voice of Freedom info! Ron

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1153-1157*,
Aug 31. Pop song (Faith Hill - "Piece Of My Heart") till
suddenly cut off. RRI Palangkaraya off the air today,
checking 1157-1352.

BTW - NBC Madang, 3260, on Aug 31, cut off at 1204*,
while playing Elton John's song Lady Diana - Candle in the
wind (Goodbye England's rose).

INDIA. 4810 (AIR Bhopal) // 5010 (AIR Thiruvananthapuram)
// 5040 (AIR Jeypore), at 1238, on Aug 31; special live coverage
of the India vs Sri Lanka cricket match held at Colombo; many
ads; coverage in English and Hindi; at 1345 not // any more.
4920 (AIR Chennai) was never //.

INDONESIA[non-log]. Aug 31, noted Pro 1 RRI Palangkaraya
(3325) and Voice of Indonesia (9524.95) both off the air from 1157
to 1352.

SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC, 1159*, Aug 31. Cut off as
if on a timer, in the middle of the "Evening Devotional"; so today
off without SA or National Anthem.

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Sep 01, 2017 19:31 UTC No.2515
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1159-1201*,
Sept 1. Montage of songs with several "NBC Bougainville"
SAs; 1200 another SA with frequencies; start of a promo in
English for "NBC Radio", but cut off before it finished. After
closing, RRI Palangkaraya in the clear with the Jakarta
news relay, so back on the air again.

CHINA. new schedule for Voice of Strait. Sept 1 heard
4900 & 4940 (different programs) at 1206, so tentatively:

6115 kHz. at 1200* (ex 1300*) switches to 4900 kHz. and
9505 kHz. at 1200* (ex 1300*) switches to 4940 kHz.

Needs to be actually observed to confirm.

6035, PBS Yunnan (Voice of Shangri-la), 1123-1145, Sept 1.
Pop song (Berlin - "Take My Breath Away"); 1133 with clear
"Yunnan Radio and Television International, the Voice Shangri-
la"; shortly after 1123 sounded like two stations here; other one
assumed to be BBS/Bhutan, but unable to tell when it went off
the air.

INDONESIA[and non-log]. Sept 1, with RRI Palangkaraya
(3325) back on the air after being silent for the Jakarta news at
1201 for the past two days. While Voice of Indonesia (9524.95)
continues silent at 1115+.

SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC, Sept 1, with just a quick
check to confirm another day with sudden 1159* cut off. Is now
the consistent time for closing down.

Re: Ozy Radio - Ron Howard Sep 02, 2017 15:13 UTC No.2517
AUSTRALIA. 5045, Ozy Radio, 1132-1156, Sept 2.
Best reception so far! EZL pop songs; just a little bit
too weak to be able to SA them; fortunately the most
distinctive feature of the broadcast is the old Radio
Australia's "Waltzing Matilda" and that came through
loud and clear (my audio clip - http://goo.gl/jai54P),
which was heard at 1156, as well as at 1142, then
followed by "Ozy Radio" SA and email address (only
able to make out bits & pieces of announcement). After
1156, was unable to again hear any audio (none at all).
So seemed to just be a brief spot with unusually good
propagation?

Very pleased to be able to catch so nice a reception of the
Ozy Radio IS. Certainly makes it much easier for us listeners
in North America to positively SA this low powered station.

Ron, listening in San Francisco, at Ocean Beach, California

Here is a bad weather day, I can not listen to the radio because of the electricity.
This year in Japan, it is raining everyday with abnormal weather. :-(

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Sep 03, 2017 13:57 UTC No.2520
San Francisco, during the day, on Friday, was 41.1ーC.
Yesterday (Saturday) was 38.3ーC.

So I go to the beach very early in the morning, before the sun comes up,
to listen to SW, as it's only 21.1ーC there :))

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Sep 03, 2017 19:43 UTC No.2521
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1101-1151*,
Sept 3. Another Sunday with an entertaining program by
DJ in Pidgin; mix of pop, C&W and religious (Christian)
songs; Lionel Richie - "Jesus Is Love," Dolly Parton -
"When You Think About Love," Don Williams - "Shot Full
Of Love," etc.; many local time checks ("19 past 10"),
which would set it apart from local times given by NBC
Madang (PNG) on 3260, which happens to be one hour
behind Bougainville; decent reception, as very light QRM
from RRI Palangkaraya today.

BTW - Voice of Indonesia remains silent for yet another day
up on 9524.95.

SIKKIM. 4835, AIR Gangtok, 1230, Sept 1. Into the AIR news
in English; // 4810 (AIR Bhopal) // 5010 AIR Thiruvananthapuram
// 5040 (AIR Jeypore); item about a high court ruling and sports
news; 1235 no longer //; Gangtok nicely above threshold level
audio.

SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC. Sept 3 anomaly; they kept
the transmitter on for almost an hour after their normal 1159* cut
off time, but was all dead air (no audio at all). A shame they did
not relay Wantok FM while they were on the air anyway!

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Sep 04, 2017 15:30 UTC No.2524

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1156*, Sept 4.
Cut off during Dolly Parton singing "When You Think About
Love," which was the same song I heard here yesterday.
Again with only light QRM from RRI Palangkaraya.

INDONESIA. 9524.95, Voice of Indonesia. After being silent
for five days, back on the air Sept 4; better than normal reception;
fairly readable; 1151 in Chinese; 1200 into Japanese; 1300
into English; today's program schedule; news and commentary;
1314 "Today in History" - this date in 1998 incorporation of
Google.

KOREA SOUTH. 6045, Voice of Freedom. Sept 4, what
happened here? Seemed as if VOF had strong carrier, but no
audio at all; also here was N. Korea jamming with pulsating
noise for the very first time since VOF moved to this frequency;
same type of jamming as formerly heard on 5920 when VOF
was there.

On former VOF frequencies: 6135, still being jammed with
strong white noise; 5920 clear; 5940 clear; 6020 with weak
Vietnam, but all without VOF.

MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, on Sept 4, tuned in at
1222 to hear the Monday edition of the English language
lesson "Say It In English" already in progress; program must
be produced in England, as they often refer to "Manchester."
Today's dialogue: "Do you know if the train is on time?", "No,
sorry I don't," "20 minutes late," "Did you have a good trip?",
"My suitcase is on the train," "What time does the train to
Manchester leave?", "What platform does the train to Manchester
leave from?"; 1232 end of lesson.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang, 1203, Sept 4.
Series of non-stop phone conversations in Pidgin; running
longer than normal; off sometime between 1233-1237.

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log (11) - Ron Howard Sep 07, 2017 21:08 UTC No.2529
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1133, Sept 6.
Nice to hear a singing version of "Waltzing Matilda" here;
cut off at 1200*, revealing RRI Palangkaraya.

Sept 7, was a bad day here, with both NBC and RRI being
about equal strength, causing a mess; NBC cut off at 1203*,
leaving RRI in the clear. Normally NBC is considerably
stronger, making their station more listenable.

INDONESIA. 3325, RRI Palangkaraya. As August is
over, they are no longer playing the patriotic/national song
泥irgahayu Indonesiaku・to close the 1200 Jakarta news
relay.

Instead on Sept 6, at 1225, ended the news with the patriotic
song "Garuda Pancasila" (aka: "Mars Pancasila"), which was
composed by Sudharnoto, with lyrics about the loyalty of all
Indonesian people to Pancasila as the only ideology or
philosophy of the Indonesian nation.

KOREA SOUTH. 5920, Voice of Freedom (ex: 6045).
After going three days without any VOF, they have
returned to this former frequency on Sept 7. Noted at
1119, plus subsequent checks. Thanks go to Hiroyuki
Komatsubara, who confirmed he was also hearing them
today at 0930.

On former VOF frequencies: 6135, still being jammed with
strong white noise; 5940 clear; 6020 with weak Vietnam and
6045 with pulsating noise jamming that has been here now
for four days (causing considerable QRM for Tibet on 6050).

MONGOLIA. 4895, Mongolian Radio 2. Has been on the
air here very erratically; back again Sept 7, with decent level
carrier, but am unable to catch any audio; 1131 and subsquent
checking. Thanks to Hiroyuki Komatsubara for reporting
"-1057- 4895kHz MONGOLIA Golden Radio, (Radio 2)."

MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, on Wednesday (Sept 6),
heard repeat of the Monday program of "Say It In English" that
dealt with the "train to Manchester"; started later than the
Monday show, as it ended at 1247, instead of ending at 1232.

So I can confirm the English language lessons are only on
Monday and Wednesday!

Thank you for your information, Hiroyuki and Ron-san.
I also confirmed that VOF shifted from 6045 kHz to 5920 kHz.
There is no jammed on 5920 kHz from North Korea.

I confirmed the following at 5920 kHz.
-1159- Ending : "Ssaesalm-eul Chaj-eun Salamdeul" ("People who found a new life")
-1200- Opening : "i bam-eul Minji-wa hamkke" ("This night with Minji")

CHINA. 6035, PBS Yunnan (Voice of Shangri-la), Sept 8,
noted cut off at 1202*. No BBS/Bhutan.

6125, CNR1, 1209-1252+, Sept 8. Preempted regular programs
to provide live coverage of the closing ceremony of 13th National
Games of China, held in northeastern China (Tianjin); these
games started Aug 27; speeches and musical performers.

KOREA SOUTH. 5920, Voice of Freedom (ex: 6045). Sept 8
was their second day here and still free of North Korea jamming;
1146+; fair-good.
