AUSTRALIA. 3210, Unique Radio (presumed), 1335-1345,
April 18. For the first time am confident I was hearing a fluttery
open carrier from this low powered station; seemed close to
hearing some actual audio; my local sunrise at 1329 UT, which
is certainly my ideal time to check for them. April 19 also heard
about the same time, again with fluttery OC. Will need extra-
ordinary conditions here to get any audio!

Website - http://www.uniqueradio.info/ (thanks to Mauno Ritola).

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 0901, April 20
with PNG bird call; regional NBC news in English (item about
an arrest - "denied bail," etc.); news // Wantok Radio Light on
7324.95; segments in English & Tok Pisin/Pidgin; 0925 NBC
program schedule; 0932-1001 with series of speeches; 1003
PNG bird call; news in English ended 1013; RRI Palangkaraya
not a factor with reception; at times semi-readable; still being
heard at 1108.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 7324.95, Wantok Radio Light.
April 20 decent reception; 0842-0918; at 0857 ending
syndicated USA program "Fresh Touch" with request for
listeners to write c/o "Wantok Radio Light, P.O. Box
1273, Port Moresby." http://www.freshtouch.org/ ; 0901-
0912 regional NBC news in English; PSA for auto safety
("slow down and respect the law"); Tok Pisin/Pidgin talking
about "messages to loved ones"; at times almost fair.

VANUATU. 7260, R. Vanuatu on April 22, just at 1205*
heard PBS Xinjian go off the air here, leaving the frequency
clear for RV reception; announcer and some pop songs;
1216 clear National Anthem (添umi, Yumi, Yumi・; audio
ended at 1217, but they keep the transmitter on for a long
time after that. Wish they would carry some filler music or
something, seeing as the transmitter is on anyway!

Thanks very much to Hiroyuki Komatsubara (Japan) for the
tip about the post-1205 reception of Radio Vanuatu! Should
be of help to many DXers.

BHUTAN. 6034.995, BBS, from tune in at 1157 till
suddenly off the air at 1317 on April 24. Remarkable
reception! First: BBS was much stronger than PBS
Yunnan (China) also on frequency and second: BBS
ran about one hour past their usual cut off time (rare!).

1157-1202: EZL pop music.

1202-1221: Announcer in vernacular with the normal
breaks for brief indigenous instrumental music.

1221-1224: Indigenous music and singing.

1224-1256: Chatting on the phone in vernacular; mostly OM
(in the studio) talking with young girl; long conversation; very
nice segment, as the audio via phone was much stronger
than the studio audio. My audio at https://goo.gl/L6eSTx .

1240-1245: Musical break.

1256: BBS indigenous music mixing with PBS's music.

1300-1314: Announcer in vernacular.

1314: Indigenous instrumental music. 1317: Went off the air.

Thanks very much to Jim Young for the exact frequency, as
he also noted the stronger than normal BBS signal today. An
eventful day for BBS reception!

SOLOMON ISLANDS. 9545, SIBC - Voice of the Nation.
Tuned in at 0507 to find them on the air past their normal
cut off time of 0500; started out very poorly and slowly
improved by the time they suddenly went off the air at
0759. Some of the highlights:

0533-0658: DJ in Pijin playing mostly pop USA hit songs
(Commodores with "Nightshift," etc.).

0658: Full ID with frequencies ("SIBC, Radio Happy Isles,
Voice of the Nation"); calliope music; into the news and
weather in English till 0715. Honiara sunset at 0712 UT.

0715-0730: Weekly program in English.

0730-0745: Pop USA hit songs (Starship with "Nothing's
Gonna Stop Us Now," etc.); 0733 SIBC schedule for today.

0745: Health program in Pijin with info about health
issues for new babies; intro and closing song in English
("Eat healthy, stay healthy"); followed by Solomon Airlines
flight schedule ("Are you flying Solomon Airlines today? . . .
International flights: Flight 701, 10 o'clock tomorrow morning
from Brisbane to Honiara . . . Domestic flights . . .") and
suddenly off at 0759.

Always nice to catch SIBC running well past their normal
cut off time! My audio of flight info at https://goo.gl/DLpio1 .

Re: Asia - Pacific : DX log (5) - Ron Howard Apr 27, 2016 16:42 UTC No.1310
KOREA NORTH[non]. new 5965, Shiokaze at 1303
on April 27; first day on alternate frequency; in Korean;
ex: 5935; good reception with no jamming yet.

KOREA SOUTH. 4885, Echo of Hope - VOH, suddenly
on at 1156 with singing jingle ending with "VOH" on April 27;
fair, but within an hour up to good reception. Since they first
went of the air here (Dec 21, 2015), have never heard any
jamming; whereas // 3985 // 6003 and // 6348 always seem
to have white noise jamming. This is still easy to ID with the
often heard "V O H" in English.

MYANMAR. 9730, Myanmar Radio, on April 27 was checking
at 1102 for the Wednesday edition of R. Australia's "English for
Business" language lesson, but it was preempted by live sports
coverage (soccer?) in vernacular; good number of mentions of
"Myanmar"; coverage ended at 1122; filler music till the normal
singing jingle ID and suddenly cut off at 1130.

SARAWAK[non]. 15420, Radio Free Sarawak, per Aoki via
Palauig-Zambales (Philippines), 1231-1249, April 27. Normally
this band has a black out during their broadcast, but today was
a rare exception; usual chatting on the phone in vernacular, but
what was not usual was a conversation by announcer in the
studio in vernacular with candidate Simon Tiong on the phone,
who responded in English; talking about "All the people of
Sarawak" and about the duties of the Chief Minister to serve
all the the people.

Back in 2014, RFS often had to change frequencies to try to
evade the heavy jamming, which proved to be so persistent
that RFS took a long break (about a year?) from broadcasting
on SW. Since they returned in 2015, I have not once heard
them jammed or seen reports of any jamming. Why did the
jamming not start up again during the past year? A major
policy change by Malaysia? Anyone have any thoughts
about this? Thanks for any comments.

Hi Glenn,

Sent an inquiry directly to Timm Breyel, who resides in
Malaysia, asking if he had any insights regarding the RFS
and non-jamming issue. As always, Timm has a very
informative response:

"1) As you probably know Sabah and Sarawak are
autonomous states in East Malaysia. In the last
Malaysian General Election these two states helped
the ruling party retain power. The states are also rich
in natural resources, i.e. oil, natural gas, timber, and
mineral deposits. They need these states for political
and financial clout.

2) My guess is the ruling Malaysian government does
not wish to provoke and draw attention to RFS and the
opposition parties there. The ruling government needs
assistance from the people to keep pirates and Islamic
extremists at bay around the Sulu and South China seas,
near Sabah. In this way, the government can show their
is 'Freedom of Speech' (at least for now) and defend their
eastern borders.

3) Having said this, the Malaysian government last year
issued an arrest warrant for Clare Rewcastle Brown, the
founder of RFS. Interestingly the warrant had nothing to
do directly with RFS and their activities, but rather had
more to do with a report she published about the 1Malaysia
Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal. The Wall Street
Journal filled a similar report, and again the PM and ruling
government attempted to squelch it. Nothing came of either
charge: Interpol dropped Malaysia's request and the lawsuit
against WSJ will be tied up in the US courts for years. If
anything, the PM and Malaysia's financial image is
tarnished. So, the Malaysian government needs to put
up a good show to her eastern states.

4) You may have noticed RTM only relays Wai FM [11665],
Sarawak FM [9835] and possibly Asyik FM [6050] (all
indigenous-related) broadcasts on short-wave. Gone is
Klasik Nasional, TRAXX FM and a few others. Again, it
looks like the ruling government is demonstrating their
interest and commitment to the people in Sarawak and
Sabah.

In other news, I read the new NBC Bougainville station
was constructed partially to shore up the politics there,
especially after the separatist movement tried to take
control of the island.

Papua Barat, on Borneo, is another place to watch. Like
Sarawak and Sabah, there is talk of succession too. These
places are so far removed from their respective central
governments and the dominant cultures, they are flexing
their muscle. In Sabah alone, the government policies are
very flexible and arbitrary compared to the states in West
Malaysia (where I live)."

Greatly appreciate Timm taking the time to give me such
a detailed analysis of the situation. Very nice to be able to
get a local perspective.

Re: Asia - Pacific : DX log (5) - Ron Howard May 02, 2016 14:30 UTC No.1313
BHUTAN. 6035, BBS on May 2, tuned in at 1217 to hear
the usual format: BBS indigenous music mixing with PBS
Yunnan (China); 1219 one of the stations went off the air;
as I have recently been reporting, this would fit the BBS
pattern, then leaving the frequency clear for PBS. Not
so today! It was PBS that went off the air; I continued to
listen and noted I was still hearing the BBS indigenous
music and was clearly not with PBS Vietnamese, but was
in vernacular; after 1230 had a long interview; 1300 an
often heard BBS theme music; announcer in vernacular
till suddenly off at 1307. Truly a unique reception for both
BBS and PBS. Rare to hear BBS without the normal PBS
QRM.

May 1, noted at 1212 & 1306 that PBS Yunnan was off the
air on 6035 (also no BBS), so seems PBS is having technical
difficulties now, so a good time to monitor Bhutan.

CHINA. 6155, CNR2/China Business Radio, 1214-1255,
May 1. The popular variety show (comedy, music, etc.) that
is fairly often heard here - "Haiyang Live Show"; in Chinese;
many program IDs with one in English; good reception.

7345-USB, Chinese number station, 0954-1005*, May 2. Poor.

BBS (Bhutan) and PBS Yunnan (China)

Believe I now have a better understanding of what has
been happening recently with BBS and PBS Yunnan
on 6035. Noted the following on May 5:

1121: PBS in Chinese with music show; no BBS yet.

1152: Finally hearing BBS with old Bob Dylan song
(sounded like "Just Like a Woman"?), underneath
stronger PBS with announcer in Chinese.

1200: PBS changed to Vietnamese and gave multi-
language ID ("SW liu[6] ling[0] san[3] wu[5]. Yunnan
Radio and Television International, the Voice Shangri-la");
went off the air 1201, leaving BBS in the clear. So
what has been happening recently is that PBS is no
longer going off the air at 1500 as they normally did,
but now end broadcasting sometime around 1200.
A major change and of course greatly helps with
reception of BBS after they are off.

1201: BBS with usual format with announcer and brief
spots with indigenous music.

1220-1225: Repetitive indigenous singing.

1228: BBS off the air.

BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, 1140-1200, May 11. PBS Yunnan

Here is the latest email (May 20) from Sylvia at PMA-The Cross Radio.

"Sorry Ron. We have not put the station back on the SW radio as it
doubles the price for power and we do not have an engineer in charge
of the station. We are one missionary pastor and wife on Pohnpei and
are grateful to be broadcasting to Pohnpei Island on 88.5 FM.

Whenever we are able to get the SW on the air, we will notify you.
Until then, thanks for checking on us and missing us!

Re: Asia - Pacific : DX log (5) - Ron Howard May 22, 2016 14:14 UTC No.1365
Decent OC on 3210 today at 1128 + 1236, but still no hint of audio.

NBC Bougainville (3325) still going when I tuned out at 1305. Today
(Sunday) they got in the full "Island Praise" show with Stacy Rose in
English playing pop religious songs (1202-1257). Normally NBC goes off
about 1200, so a very rare day! 3260 (NBC Madang) off at 1203*, just at
the start of Stacy's show.

Wantok Radio Light silent on 7324.95 at 0908 + 0938; no OC at all.

NBC Bougainville new, longer schedule.

May 30, on 3325, noted NBC from tune in at 1130 to tune out at
1315. Much better reception today than yesterday; mostly DJs in
Tok Pisin/Pidgin playing EZL pop songs & Pacific Island pop songs;
"What a Feeling" by Irene Cara and John Mellencamp with "It Hurts
so Good"; 1200-1205 "NBC Bougainville" ID and into the NBC news
in English; after 1225 varying levels of QRM from Pro 1 RRI
Palangkaraya (BTW - 3905, Pro 1 RRI Merauke remains silent). My
local sunrise was at 1251 UT.

KOREA NORTH[non]. new 5935, Shiokaze/Sea Breeze/
JSR via Yamata (Japan), 1301, May 31. Ex: 5965; the first
day on their alternate frequency; in Japanese; schedule
1300-1400; too early for N. Korea jamming to have noted
the change today; Shiokaze is now blocking Tibet (Xizang
PBS via Lhasa), which can be heard underneath.

MALAYSIA. 9835, Sarawak FM via Kajang, 1316, May 31.
In vernacular; caught a long promo for upcoming "Wonderful
Indonesia Festival"; fair.

A check of the Web found - http://goo.gl/IaoIwB :

"KUCHING: The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism will be holding
the Wonderful Indonesia Festival from June 3 to 4, in an effort
to achieve its target of 12 million tourists・arrival globally,
including those from Malaysia and specifically Sarawak.

Indonesian Consul General for Sarawak Jahar Gultom said the
two-day festival would be organised in conjunction with 善ekan
Gawai Naik Dango・from June 1 to 4, which would introduce
Indonesian culture in the hope that its potential would be
recognised at the international level.

The event, to be held in Sambas, West Kalimantan, is part of the
Indonesian government痴 efforts through its Ministry of Tourism to
present the rich cultural arts of the country to attract more tourists
to Indonesia.

鉄ambas has the potential become the 組ateway・to attract Sarawakian
tourists as well as those from other states in Malaysia to come and
enjoy the various activities that are held there.

典his is also part of our government痴 efforts to balance the number
of tourists・arrivals to our country where in 2015, the number of
Sarawakian tourists was only 22,000 compared to Indonesian
tourists・arrivals to Sarawak, which was around 400,000.

展ith this festival, we hope that the number of tourists・arrivals from
these two countries could be balanced out,・he said, adding that
around 300 Malaysians are expected to visit the festival.

Speaking at a press conference held at a hotel here yesterday, Jahar
said visitors visiting Sambas for the Wonderful Indonesia Festival 2016
would have the opportunity to witness arts and cultural performances
by local Indonesian artistes, traditional Dayak arts, food and a bazaar
as well as blowpipe and top-spinning (gasing) competitions.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Tourism Ministry deputy marketing assistant Edi
Susilo said to ease the arrival of Sarawakians to Sambas, the Indonesian
government would give permits for Sarawakians to drive their own
vehicles to the festival ・on condition that they would obtain their
permits at the Indonesian border.

鄭t the border, Sarawakians can enter Indonesia in their own vehicles by
obtaining a car sticker. But they are only allowed to be in Sambas starting
from June 2 to June 5 (before 5pm). . . . "

BOUGAINVILLE. 6020, NBC Bougainville, 0634-0642*, June 3.
Pop American hit song and Pacific Island pop song; suddenly off;
poor.

INDONESIA. 7289.93, RRI Nabire, 0736-0812*, June 3. Started
with JBA music; after 0800 announcer till suddenly off, by which
time the signal had improved a lot; sign off time conforms to
Atsunori Ishida's info.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA[non-log]. 7324.95, Wantok Radio Light has
not been heard for a while now. Latest check on June 3 at 0905, with
clear frequency.

RUSSIA. 7295 // 7345, Radio Sakha. June 3 with open carrier at
tune in of 0855; audio at 0900, but no IS nor time pips; straight into
Russian programming; 7345, as usual the best reception when
compared to 7295.

Have to wonder about item in DXLD 16-21, reporting "presumed" R.
Sakha reception "0803+," as I have only observed a *0900 sign on.
All the schedules I have seen also indicate *0900, whether weekday
or weekend, with 0500* to *0900 being silent.

ZAMBIA. 9680, Voice of Hope Africa, 0504, June 3. In English; time
given as "7 0 4," which is their local Central Africa Time; "Breakfast Table"
program with preaching and songs; after 0530 same segment repeated
twice; good number of IDs; almost fair with QRN (static).

CHINA. 6035.0, PBS Yunnan (presumed), tuned in at 1235
till they went off the air close to 1308, June 4. It will be recalled
that recently they changed their sign off time from 1500+ to 1200*.
I have been monitoring their going off the air about 1200 (either
just after or just before their ID in both English and Chinese); at
that time they have been turning off the transmitter (often leaving
BBS/Bhutan to be heard in the clear).

Today PBS had a very different format; strong open carrier for a
minute before start of classical western orchestra music; non-stop
classical instrumental music, except for occasional one minute
breaks of dead air between selections; no announcements of
any kind; much stronger signal than usual from PBS. No
BBS/Bhutan noted today.

It will also be recalled that in the past when PBS Yunnan ended
their regular programming at 1500, they normally played classical
western orchestra music till closing down about 1505 or so. Today
then would seem to be an extension of their former format.

This extended sign off, if it continues, will be bad news for BBS/Bhutan,
which is also on 6035. In the past I often heard them after PBS 1200*.
Certainly this needs more monitoring!

INDIA. 5050, AIR Aizawl (presumed). It will be recalled that this briefly
reactivated back in April, but not heard again till today (June 4). At 1143
could tell there where two stations here, the other being the stronger
Beibu Bay Radio (China); AIR very faint underneath BBR; 1220 seemed
to go into their usual segment in English. Very nice to have them back.
Hope they stay on the air longer than their last reactivation.

KOREA SOUTH. 4885, Echo of Hope - VOH, *1154, June 4. Suddenly
on in Korean; news; 1215 the usual clear "V O H" ID. Heard no jamming
nor OTH radar; nice clean signal.

Occasionally I still see reports of this being jammed, but I think not. Probably
what is being heard is the occasional OTH radar causing QRM. The vast
majority of days VOH is totally clear here of any QRM, unlike the almost
always jammed frequencies of // 3985 // 6003 and // 6348.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1219-1255, June 5.
The third consecutive Sunday with a full edition of "Island Praise"
syndicated (Florida, USA) show of pop Caribbean gospel music
(reggae, soca, calypso, hip hop gospel, etc.); poor; very light
QRM from RRI Palangkaraya. My local sunrise at 1249 UT.

June 6, at 0930 clear "NBC Bougainville" ID; at 1101 station
promo/ID in English with 3 or 4 mentions of "NBC Bougainville"
and same promo/ID again at 1121; suddenly off 1202*, which
was very different from yesterdays Stacy Rose's "Island Praise"
Sunday show that I noted from 1219 to past 1255. June 6 with
very decent Bougainville reception!

INDONESIA. 3905, Pro 1 RRI Merauke, June 5 heard reciting
from the Qur'an at 1254, but June 6 not heard during checks at
1023 + 1133. Has been on and off the air erratically recently.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang on June 6 was
not heard at 0901 nor 1001, but was noted on the air by 1106;
by 1212 was off the air; so Madang had a very abbreviated
broadcast today.

3365, NBC Milne Bay on June 6 first noted at 0901, with // NBC
Bougainville, with the NBC news in English; still going after NBC
Madang (3260) went off the air. Dave Valko was also listening
to them today over on the east coast (USA).

PHILIPPINES. 7410, FEBC, 1151-1205, June 5. IS mixing with
CRI, till China went off at 1157*; 1200 "FEBC" ID; assume into listed
Cambodian; after 1157 almost fair.

BBS/Bhutan & PBS Yunnan/China

Since my anomaly reception of PBS Yunnan (6035) on June 4, they
have not had another day with extended sign off of non-stop
western classical music, so was only a one day event.

June 7, on 6035, at 1204 noted usual format for BBS/Bhutan;
announcer with brief indigenous instrumental music breaks at
1217, 1222 & 1224; at 1226 started indigenous singing; still on
the air at 1234. As Mauno Ritola today reported in Facebook
(WRTH - World Radio Tv Handbook), PBS went off the air at
1200, so BBS/Bhutan had sole possession of the frequency
after that.

BHUTAN. 6035.0, BBS on June 24 noted PBS Yunnan again
with non-stop classical western instrumental music 1207 till ending
audio at 1209, but seemed to leave transmitter on with open carrier;
BBS noted with usual format till off at 1217*, when I was still hearing
the PBS open carrier.

June 26 with BBS running much later than normal. PBS Yunnan
closed down about 1200, leaving BBS in the clear; 1227-1230
chanting/singing with indigenous music; 1230-1257 the normal
Sunday program with YL chatting on the phone with mostly young
girls; 1257-1300 indigenous music; 1300-1310 seemed to be news

music; 1315 back to chatting on the phone, but this segment with
adult caller and who sang over the phone (no music), so must have
been giving amateurs a chance to air their talent; suddenly off at
1328*. My local sunrise at 1251 and Thimphu sunset at 1300, so
some nice grayline reception.

MYANMAR. 9730, Myanmar Radio, 1127-1130*, June 26. In vernacular;

PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang, 1054, June 27. In

suddenly off at 1209*; poor, but much better reception today than
the last two days.

R. Sakha with major change.

RUSSIA. 7295, Radio Sakha on June 28 noted with clearly a major
change in transmitter assignments. Ever since I first heard R. Sakha
on May 7, the 7345 signal had been many times stronger than // 7295;
that had been the case until today; certainly now 7295 is the stronger
transmitter (250kW?) and // 7345 is the much weaker one (100kW?),
with 7345 mostly blocked by CNR1 after 1101.

1117-1300*: seemed in Russian; played some pop songs, but also
very nice segment (1215-1300) of traditional Russian music and
songs; 1200 & 1300 brief IS of Jew's harp and time pips. New sign
off time for weekdays?

My audio of a portion of today's programming at https://goo.gl/JUvBrH .

Would like to think my email to R. Sakha on May 16, which alerted
them to the reactivation of CNR1 (China) on 7345, had something to
do with their decision now to switch transmitter assignments.

Update - Radio Sakha

June 29 heard R. Sakha with extremely weak signal on 7345 at
0938, along with V26 (Chinese numbers station) on 7345-USB.

7295, just like yesterday, abnormally strong signal from R. Sakha,
with QRN (static); one of their favor times to give a station ID is at
about 50 minutes after the hour; today at 0949 with montage of
different pop songs and clear "Radio Sakha" ID; some ads. Audio
of ID and ads at https://goo.gl/CbcTGK . 1000 no IS or time pips;
went straight into the news(?).

Rechecked 7295 at 1056, only to find them off the air; no signal at
all and none during subsequent checking till 1112. Whereas 7345
seemed to still be on the air, but only open carrier heard till hit with
CNR1 sign on just before 1101.

yes, was // to weaker 7225. Thanks again to Sei-ichi Hasegawa

6200, Voice of Jinling. On July 3, at 1225, was hearing Xizang PBS

full SA (ID) with many "FM" references; at *1235 heard the first
of the distinctive double signing on of VOJ; first came on for

RUSSIA. 7295, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk, on July 6 with special
live coverage from the opening ceremony of the 6th Children
of Asia International Sports Games now being held in Yakutsk;
all coverage translated into English 1248-1310; at 1310 went to
local announcers in just one language, with commentary, while the
opening ceremony continued on in the background; several speeches
by Russian officials welcoming boys and girls to the games and
declaring the games officially open; described the carrying in of the
various flags from Mongolia, Syria, United Arab Emirates, etc.; still
going at tune out of 1317, which was well past their normal weekday
1300*, so special extended coverage of the games.

The games are being held till July 17, with the closing ceremony being
on July 16. Hope we can hear more coverage of the games, as they are
being held locally in Yakutsk. Very interesting coverage, as it was live
and in English.

SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC, on July 7 with special
extended broadcast to celebrate their 38 anniversary of
idependence; 1203 (after a long National Anthem), continued
on with non-stop Pacific Islands music and songs, except for
occasional announcements sending out congratulations to the
good people of Solomon Islands and to the government; never
any station IDs, so not sure if just an extension of special SIBC
programming or a special relay of Wantok FM; commercial
announcements from Solomon Islands Airlines and a IT service
who "wish to convey to the government and people of our beloved
nation, Solomon Islands, a happy 38 anniversary of independence
. . . God bless the Solomon Islands"; still being heard at tune out
of 1318. My local sunrise was at 1256 UTC.

Talking about the late aboriginal singer Ruby Hunter; ID for "783

above average reception; rather good for summertime reception!

BANGLADESH[non-log]. 4750, Bangladesh Betar (Home

that was just CNR1. RRI Makassar (4749.95) continues
silent. Clearly no BB today, as overall conditions were good.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1149-1202*, July 8.
Pop songs; 1200 time check ("11 o'clock") & "NBC Bougainville"
ID; into NBC news in English; suddenly off; most of the time mixing
badly with Pro 1 RRI Palangkaraya, which after 1202 was in the
clear with fair reception, relaying the Jakarta news.

CHINA. 6035.0, PBS Yunnan (presumed). July 8 again had
them running long past their usual 1200 sign off. As occasionally
noted recently, today playing non-stop classical western orchestra
music, with about one minute of dead air between selections; tuned
in at 1212 and still being heard at my last check at 1251. Unable to
confirm BBS/Bhutan reception today due to extended presents of
PBS Yunnan.

July 10. Same BBS format; 1201-1216*; announcer in vernacular;
briefly played indigenous instrumental music at 1201, 1213 and
1215; suddenly off; PBS Yunnan was already off the air. Interesting
to find two consecutive days with the same cut off time.

INDONESIA. 9525.89, VOI, 1301-1326, July 8. In English with
news, "Focus," "News in Brief," "Indonesia Wonders" (no segment
of "Today in History"); promo for "VOI's International Quiz 2016";
this quiz only has three questions to answer to possibly win a free
trip to Indonesia; poor, but semi-readable, which is certainly better
than the norm here. In the past VOI carried "Exotic Indonesia" on
Friday, but clearly was not on today and has been a long time now
since I last heard that program. My audio https://goo.gl/JX4WvM .

July 9 & 10, VOI was off the air during my usual monitoring times.

RUSSIA. 7295, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk, on July 10 special
coverage from the Children of Asia Sports Games preempted
regular programming; 0949-1040 with coverage of the games
by local announcer with strong background sounds of the crowd
and also loudspeaker announcements; 1040-1110 had no sports
coverage, but talked about the games and interviews with some
kids; no breaks at ToH for the normal IS and time pips, but had
non-stop coverage; almost fair with summertime QRN (static).
Muffled background loudspeaker announcements possibly bilingual?
This Sunday noted 1200*, after usual IS and time pips; yesterday
noted they were off the air by 1220, when I checked.

So the normal weekend schedule is 1200*, with weekdays 1300*.

A reminder about Radio Sakha (Yakutsk, Russia):

- - - - - posted to DXLD yg:

Hi Glenn,

A reminder that on July 16 (Saturday), at 1100 UT, there probably
will be live coverage of the closing ceremony of the Children of
Asia International Sports Games. Seeing as the opening ceremony
was presented with a complete translation of the event in English,
I assume the same will hold true for the closing ceremony. Look
for the coverage to go well beyond their normal weekend 1200*
sign off time.

Per the downloadable schedule at the games website,
http://www.yakutsk2016.com/ :

July 16:
Official Closing Ceremony of the 6th CAISG 20:00 [1100 UT - Ron]
Tuymada [aka: Tuymaada - Ron] Stadium.

BTW - This past week both Hiroyuki Komatsubara (Japan) and I
have observed Radio Sakha on the air earlier than their normal
*0900, with Hiroyuki hearing them as early as 0830. Perhaps
just related to the special coverage this past week for the children's
sports games?

BHUTAN. 6035, BBS on July 15 with 1226*; off in mid-sentence;
above the norm reception.

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville on July 16, with a

with "Sexual Healing," etc.); promo for "NBC Bougainville";
1201 PNG bird call and "NBC news in brief" (at the airport,
most of Air Niugini flights have been cancelled, etc.); PSA in
Pidgin.

Seeing as there is a lot of political unrest now in PNG regarding
Parliaments attempt to take a vote of no confidence in Prime
Minister O誰eill, NBC had a segment where they asked five
political questions; repeated questions again and then gave
the answers; off suddenly in mid-song; semi-readable in QRN
(static).

RUSSIA. 7295, Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk, 1150-1300*, July 16
(Saturday). Extended special broadcast past their normal 1200*;
local announcers commenting on the games; 1205 anthem; start
of the trilingual coverage (English, Russian and local language);
"Ladies and gentlemen, we begin the closing ceremony of the 6th
Children of Asia International Sports Games" (CAISG); parade of

CAISG will next be held in Mongolia, in four years. Naturally there
was an official (State Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Sports)
from there who gave a speech; "On behalf of the government of
Mongolia, Mongolian people and Mongolian athletes, let me express
gratitude to the government and people of . . ."; several other speeches
given; acknowledgment of many "appreciation letters" that were received
from government officials; lowering of the CAISG flag; QRM from 7290.
All in all a very enjoyable listening experience.

TAIWAN. 9410, [non-log] Fu Hsing BS. Seems I was premature in
saying their transmitter was fixed when I heard them on July 13. Have
not heard them again, through July 16. A short lived repair? 9774 also
silent.

9725-AM, StarStar Broadcasting Station (XingXing BS), checking at
1302, July 16. Numbers in Chinese; fair.
