Audio above threshold level, but heavy QRN (static). Highlights:
0228-0300: Pop songs.
0300-0302: Time pips; brief news headlines; several SAs.
0304-0400: Religious program; several segments of preaching,
but mostly non-stop religious songs. This on a Sunday.
0400: Time pips; news with several breaks for SAs.
AUSTRALIA. 5045, Ozy Radio, on Oct 29. As usual the "Waltzing
Matilda" (WM) modulation was stronger than the rest of the broadcast.
WM noted at 1130, 1230, 1259, 1305 & 1359. At 1300 time pips; YL
with news, with several sound bites, but unreadable; break during the
news to play WM. At times was close to being readable, but needs
somewhat better propagation for that.
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, Oct 29. Better than usual
due to no noticeable QRM from RRI Palangkaraya (just a carrier heard
after NBC went off); NBC cut off 1147*.
BTW - NBC Madang (3260) cut off at 1205*, on Oct 29, after what
sounded like religious songs (on a Sunday).
CHINA. 7260, CRI, in Japanese. Oct 29, with the start of the B17
schedule, Radio Vanuatu is now totally blocked 1100-1257 by this
powerhouse.
EQUATORIAL GUINEA. 5005, RNGE, R. Bata, with Oct 29 anomaly.
Definite carrier heard at 0415; checking on & off till 0531. Had a very
decent carrier the whole time and quiet conditions, but no audio detected.
This is the earliest I have ever heard their presumed signal.
Helpful feedback from Manuel M駭dez: "heard R Bata at 0459 UTC with
very very weak signal, songs and comments, barely audible." [Oct 29]
KOREA NORTH[non]. Shiokaze/Sea Breeze, via Yamata, on Oct 29,
found ex 6040 silent; no jamming and no Shiokaze; went looking for
them 1300+, but unable to find them. Where did they move to?
U S A. 4875-USB, Air Force MARS net, 1206+, Oct 29. This is a
Sunday only net at this time period; net managed by the usual AFF4FL
and he had good reception, while the others in the net only faintly heard.
ZANZIBAR. 6015, ZBC Radio, on Oct 29, during a few quick checks;
found they definitely lost the audio from time to time about 0345.

no English, but instead in Dutch. Thanks very much to Wolfie, who
confirmed my audio clip is in fact Dutch. Today had pre-1300 with
the usual Japanese and post-1400 was the normal Indonesian. My

but with some audio hum.
Was this a one day anomaly or is it a real change to their language
schedule? What happened to their segment in English (ex: 13-14)?
Needs more monitoring!

getting closer to being semi-readable.
CHINA. 6155, CNR2, on Oct 30, at 1337. For many years China
Business Radio (CNR2) had sole possession of this frequency, but
no longer so. Today heard very strong QRM from UNID. Is it the
new schedule of AIR here? Needs more time spent here to ID the
UNID.
MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, on Monday, Oct 30. This
weeks adventures of "Tom" found him at London airport looking for
parking at "terminal three," so he could pick up his "Aunt Jennifer,"
who was arriving from Sydney. The Monday and Wednesday saga
continues, hi. As usual, the "Say It In English" program was very
readable (1218-1231).
TIBET[non]. 6010, CNR-11 (Tibetan Service), via Baoji-Sifangshan,
1420, Oct 30. In Tibetan and // 7350, which was considerably stronger.
It was back in 2010 this service formerly carried the "Holy Tibet" show
in English. Wish they would bring it back again!

On Oct 29 & 30 went looking for ex: 6040 (which was silent of both
Shiokaze and also the N. Korean jamming), at 1300+, but without any
success.
Hiroshi explains why - Shiokaze moved to 7410. This is the frequency
of the powerhouse CRI, so will be difficult to make out much, if anything,
from Shiokaze. A sad situation! They made the same mistake last year.
Hard to believe they did it again.
PHILIPPINES. new 17700, R. Pilipinas, ex:12010, at 0200, on Oct 31.
Choral anthem; time pip (about one minute late); SA; sound bites from
various past presidents; 0205 擢rom the presidential palace Manila,
Dateline Malacang,・info about the current activities of the government;
0220 "From the News Center of Radio Pilipinas. This is the PBS News":

ZANZIBAR. 6015, ZBC Radio, 0301-0307, Oct 31, with reciting
from the Qur'an (good audio); 0307+ animated monologue. No

good audio, with the news; better than normal reception, but heavy
QRN (static).
Interesting that Bill Bingham (RSA) found ZBC today at a time when
they were still having problems, so very much still a hit-or-miss operation
on this frequency. Thanks to Bill for his continuing monitoring!

ETHIOPIA. 6090, Amhara State Radio, 0250, Nov 3. Caribbean
Beacon, via Anguilla off the air. More strange happenings with the
interval signals here, as I have recently been reporting on. Today
tuned in to hear a decent level carrier; 0252 clearly the start of the
Radio Oromiya IS; at 0256 heard the start of the Amhara State
Radio IS, which was weak and mixing well underneath the Radio
Oromiya IS, which ended at 0259, leaving the Amhara State Radio
IS in the clear till 0300.
Certainly something strange is happening either at the studio or transmitter

QRM today, so reception above the norm.
BTW - NBC Madang, on 3260; noted NBC news in English
at 1204; at 1207, after the news, went straight to indigenous,
repetitive singing (not the usual pop songs); 1210* cut off;
poor.
KOREA SOUTH. 5920, Voice of Freedom, 1138+, Nov 8.
Only the VOF carrier (no audio at all), as well as the usual
North Korean jamming here.
Former VOF ex-frequencies today:
5940 - Clear frequency.
6020 - Only Vietnam.
6045 - Clear frequency.

the strongest signal ever noted here, but unfortunately on
a day when there was very heavy OTH radar; 1133 & 1255.
Without the OTH radar, believe the news would have been
fairly readable, as the Ozy signal was that strong.
CHINA. 6035, PBS Yunnan (Voice of Shangri-la), 1130,
Nov 13. Nice English & Chinese SA - "S W liu(6) ling(0)
san(3) wu(5). Yunnan Radio and Television International,
the Voice Shangri-la"; 1201*. No BBS/Bhutan here today.
KOREA SOUTH. 4885, Echo of Hope - VOH. On Nov 13,
again found their programming out of sync from the normal
timing, for this one hour program that is repeated every hour;
instead of the usual bell/gong being rung slowly three times
at 1203, today was at 1210; OTH radar QRM (not N. Korea
jamming!).
5920, Voice of Freedom. On Nov 13, at 1203, almost fair,
even with the usual light North Korea jamming.
MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, 1212-1225, Nov 13.
English language lesson program "Say It In English" starts
and ends with same theme music; today Tom's Aunt Jennifer
and Kate go to the cinema to see "Monsters From Outer
Space"; Aunt Jennifer takes the wrong bus and calls Tom to

KOREA NORTH. 3945, Echo of Unification, 1225,
Nov 18. Carrier already on; 1229 chimes (IS?); 1230
one pip; in Korean; is Saturday, so no "RN2, Radio
Nikkei" (Japan) here at this time.
SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC (presumed), 1204
& 1340+, on Nov 18. Decent level carrier (dead air, with
no audio), during this extend transmission.
VIETNAM. 6020, Voice of Vietnam, program 4 (ethnic
minority languages service), via Dac Lac, 1241+, Nov 18.
Non-stop repetitive indigenous chanting; in vernacular.

Reception stronger than normal.
Dac Lac province is located in the Central Highlands and
has many indigenous people there who are not ethnically
Vietnamese.
So it would seem that NBC Bougainville has for a long

recall seeing any reported receptions of NBC after June,
2016, on 6020?

hear HLL2 Seoul, with the weather in different
languages. Significant anomaly on Nov 22, with
what seemed to be a mix up of an audio feed?
1241-1300: Weak audio feed of OM & YL alternately
reading numbers (not the usual HLL2 Seoul weather
audio feed).
1300: In addition to the audio feed of numbers, the
start of the normal weather info given in Korean by
HLL2 Seoul, which was much stronger that the reading
of the numbers.
Checked 1308-1330 to hear only a carrier (dead air) with
no audio feed at all; normally should have had a segment
of weather (HLL2 Seoul).
Due to this unique frequency and subsequent dead air (no
audio at all), can I safely assume the numbers audio feed
was in fact transmitted via HLL2 Seoul?

ham QRM, but otherwise a clear signal; not as strong as 7181.52
reception; *1501 start of jamming (white noise or DRM?). Yesterday
also had *1501 start of jamming.
7181.52, VOBME 2 (presumed), 1421-1506, Dec 1. In vernacular
and with HOA music/singing; much stronger than 7140 (VOBME 1);
1502-1506 anomaly with the jamming transmitter only with a loud
test tone; normal jamming (white noise or DRM?) started at 1506.
Yesterday was a regular day, as jamming started right at *1502.
So the jamming on 7140 is the first to start. My audio of test tone

KOREA NORTH[non]. new frequency 6085, Shiokaze/Sea Breeze,
via Yamata, ex: 7410, on Dec 1 at 1305. In Japanese; nice clear signal,

Very unfortunate choice, as occasionally SIBC (Solomon Islands) is here
during this time period (which is why I check), but they will not do well
against a strong RTI.

KOREA SOUTH. 4885, Echo of Hope - VOH. On Dec 3, again
found their programming out of sync with their normal timing, for
this one hour program that is repeated again-and-again every hour;
instead of the usual bell/gong being rung slowly three times at 1203
and 1403, today was heard at 1219 & 1419; fair-good.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang, 1148-1203*, Dec 3,
Sunday. Religious preaching and religious singing; no break at ToH;
cut off in mid-song; poor, but a rare day with above threshold level
audio.
BTW - What has happened to NBC Bougainville (3325)? Have not
heard them recently during my usual monitoring times (1115+). Are
they signing off earlier than before, when they went off about 1200,
or are they completely off the air?
Also on Dec 3, RRI Palangkaraya (3325) was silent for a second day
in a row; 1139-1420. No signal at all on 3325.

on the air again; 1140-1158*; DJ in Pidgin playing pop Pacific Islands
songs; suddenly cut off. They picked the perfect time to start up again,
as RRI Palangkaraya continues to be off the air here (third consecutive
day!), so no QRM. Frequency totally clear post-1158.
At 1159, checked for NBC Madang (3260), but they were already off
the air.

Dec 4. The Monday only SAARC (The South Asian Association
for Regional Cooperation) news bulletin in English; almost readable,
but QRM from CODAR and CNR1 were just a little bit too strong.
CHINA. 9410, CNR5, 1207, Dec 4. In Chinese and // 5925. Recent
log in WRTH Facebook - "Fu Hsing BS in Chinese from Kuanyin
transmitters, with a weak signal with frequent fading in and out heard
at 12:04," is highly suspect; Hiroyuki-san was also listening today to
CNR5. Here in California, Fu Hsing BS (Taiwan) is impossible to hear
on 9410, due to this strong CNR5. The Fu Hsing BS frequency of 9774
has been silent for a long time now, as I still check it almost daily during
my monitoring.

Checking at 1128, found frequency clear (also no NBC Bougainville,
which has recently been silent); pleasantly surprised at 1216 to hear
the Jakarta news relay in Bahasa Indonesia, during which they also
ran a promo; longer than normal news segment; 1238-1239 ending
the news relay with the usual patriotic song 釘agimu Negeri・(For
You Our Country), followed by RRI jingle; poor.
Nice to have them back again! Several days ago I emailed the station
that I missed hearing them on SW and hoped they would return again
shortly. Today will write a follow up, thanking them for broadcasting
again via SW.

English with the news (Myanmar's President meeting with Japanese
Prime Minister, in Japan, etc.) and the weather.
It was back in Dec 2014, at 1540, that I first heard Myanmar broadcasting
NKH's production of "Friends Around the World." Have enjoyed many such
programs over the years. Therefore was surprised this Friday, at 1540, to
hear instead the "Friday evening music program" with music from different
cultures (songs from Argentina) till 1553; then "Panoramic Myanmar" about
an ancient city; at 1559 covered by strong CRI sign on.
Was this just an anomaly or a permanent schedule change? Need to check
again next week.

So he will no longer be doing his daily monitoring and posting
his results there. Would seem logical that his decision to do so
is due to the current lack of stations to report on.
At his site, note "Previous Results" that he started back in March
2010, a time that had a good number of stations to keep track of,
very much unlike the present situation today.
Certainly I will miss the excellent info that he has provided over the
years. A job very well done!

Roads" C&W music show with DJ in English; songs "Jolene" (Dolly
Parton), "Elusive Butterfly" (Bob Lind), Xmas song "I'll Be Home for
Christmas," etc.; DJ with modulation at a very low level, whereas the
music level was good; 1315 into Hindi.
It will be recalled that the northeastern Indian state of Meghalaya (means
"The Abode of Clouds") has a population of about 75% Christians, while
the capital city of Shillong (known as the "Scotland of the East"), has
close to 50% of the population being Christian. So Christmas is widely
celebrated. Today 1342-1358 with non-stop Xmas songs; "Winter
Wonderland," "Joy to the World," "The First Noel," "Jingle Bells," etc.

Better than the usual reception; various music; Pacific Islands songs,
The Rolling Stones "Brown Sugar," Xmas songs - "Deck the Hall,"
"We Wish You a Merry Christmas," "O Little Town Of Bethlehem,"
etc.; 1201 usual bird call and into the NBC news in English; suddenly
cut off. Unable to hear any RRI QRM.
INDIA. 5050, AIR Aizawl [non-log], checking here on Dec 18, after
Beibu Bay Radio signed off (1602*), to see if I could hear any carrier
at all from AIR, but the frequency was completely clear of any station;
AIR has been off the air here for a long time now.
Still off frequency 7555.62v, AIR via Delhi-Kingsway, 1211, Dec 19.
Daily I find them on a slightly different frequency; decent level carrier,
but today unable to hear the AIR IS at 1213.
INDONESIA[non-log]. 9525.95, VOI, on Dec 19, at 1330, clearly was
off the air; no carrier at all.
MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio, 1530-1548, Dec 18. In English
with news and weather; song composed by Shelley Murley and sung
by children, titled "Light a Candle for Peace"; 1540 "special talk program"
about today being International Migrants Day; mostly fair.
SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC (presumed), 1205 and random
checking till 1335, on Dec 19. Only heard a decent level carrier with no
audio at all; just dead air during this extend transmission.

5055, Radio 4KZ, 1433-1505, Dec 21. Much better reception than
yesterday; same format as yesterday; 1500 news (mentioned
"bomb threat"?); getting closer to being semi-readable, but still with
some SSB chatter in Spanish which blocks 4KZ reception. My best
reception here seems to start about 45 minutes before my local
sunrise and slowly improves a little.
BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1120-1202, Dec 21. DJ in
Pidgin playing pop Pacific Islands music and Xmas song - "Joy to the
World"; 1157, as usually happens at this time, a full ID and frequencies
given; audio ended 1202.
Anomaly today. Normally the transmitter would have gone off at 1202,
but today their carrier continued on past 1335. First time I have noted
this happening. Maybe they will be doing some holiday extended
broadcasts? (see Solomon Islands).
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang, 1206*, Dec 21. Cut off
just after the NBC news in English; poor.
SIKKIM. new 4836.0, AIR Gangtok, ex: 4835.0, at 1329 & 1510, Dec 21.
Only hearing a carrier, but nothing on their former ex 4835.0, so presume
it was them.
SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, probably Wantok FM relay, during this
extended broadcast on Dec 21, at 1208+; pop hit songs and Xmas song
"The First Noel"; didn't stay on too long, as gone by a check at 1220.
Would like to think that maybe they will do more and longer extended
holiday broadcasting? We will see! Also note Bougainville.

the air, the best reception so far; 1513 Xmas song "Have Yourself A
Merry Little Christmas," followed by SA of song and phone number

Finally able to pull in some audio good enough to record, even though
it's poor quality!
MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio. Last Friday, noted the absence
of the usual NKH production of "Friends Around the World" at 1540.
Instead Myanmar carried their "Friday evening music program."
Dec 22 (Friday), checked again at 1540 and again found "Friday evening
music program." So after many years of running the NHK program, they
have decided to drop it from their schedule at this time?
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang, 1201*, Dec 22. Cut off
before they made it into the NBC news.
BTW - Dec 22, had no signal from NBC Bougainville (3325) from 1135+.

one day anomaly yesterday.

usual Saturday program about ASEAN, during their segment in
English.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3260, NBC Madang, on Dec 31, with New
Year's Eve extended two hour broadcast past their normal 1200*; at
1140 with the normal Sunday religious (Christian) songs and in Pidgin;
1207 till suddenly off at 1403* with many phone conversations and
playing a few pop songs; signal slowly improving the whole time.
BTW - 3325 (non-log), NBC Bougainville, on Dec 31, remains silent.
SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC, on Dec 31, with greatly expanded
New Year's Eve broadcast; 1227 to past 1532+; some pop songs and
many phone conversations; poor.
VIETNAM. VOV, 12019.120 // 9839.798 (thanks to Wolfie for exact
measurements), on Dec 31, in English at 1133, with item about Vietnam
successfully controlling inflation, etc; per Wolfie, both via Son Tay site,
whereas Aoki listed "Hanoi-Sontay"; both equally fair.
