Re: India - AIR Aizawl reactivated on 5050 kHz. - Ron Howard Jan 03 (Fri), 2020 13:00 UTC No.4295
INDIA. 5050, AIR Aizawl, Jan 3. Exciting news for the New Year! Today had positive reception
of this station that had been off the air for several years; yesterday had a faint hint that another
station might be here besides the usual Beibu Bay Radio, so monitored this frequency again
today; 1120-1127, prominent test tone; went off for a minute till start of the distinctive AIR IS;
1130-1135, possibly news in Hindi(?); then at 1135 could make out, "This is All India Radio with
the news read by . ."; items not very readable due to BBR QRM; 1140, "and that was the end of
the news bulletin." Wonderful to have this station active again!

Re: India - AIR Aizawl reactivated on 5050 kHz. - Ron Howard Jan 03 (Fri), 2020 17:14 UTC No.4296
Thanks very much to Jose Jacob (Hyderabad, India), for the following very helpful feedback (Jan 3):

"I have contacted AIR Aizawl just now. They are using only 2 kW now (instead of 10 kW) !!!!
Tomorrow they will increase the power some more. 7295 kHz is also on air.

Sked: 5050 0025-0400 1130-1630
7295 0700-1000"

Greatly appreciate this additional information!

Ron

Re: UNID on 6280 kHz. - Ron Howard Jan 04 (Sat), 2020 13:25 UTC No.4297

Jan 4, checking SOH, found 6215 // 6230 as usual; clear SOH SA at 1200.

Had an UNID station on 6280, clearly NOT // and no SA at 1200; seemed to
be in Chinese. Who? SOH now with other programming?

Thanks for any help with this.

Sorry, I should have said the UNID was about the same signal strength as SOH. Was clearly not CNR1 jamming. I check almost daily on 6215, 6230 and 6280 and don't often find any CNR1 jamming there, which of course is many times stronger than the SOH signals. The UNID sounded similar to SOH programming, but was certainly not //, as it normally is. Nor was it just out of sync with 6215 and 6230, but had completely different program timing. A mystery :)

INDONESIA. 3325 (via Palangkaraya) // 4750 (assume via Cimanggis/Jakarta),
Voice of Indonesia. On Feb 8, checked 1300+ on 3325, but found almost no
modulation during their normal English segment (1300-1400). Surprised at
1406 to find decent audio and was in English, instead of the normally heard
Bahasa Indonesia; very faint underneath CNR1 on 4750; items about the
education of women in Indonesia; 1417, "Today In History" (this date in 1942,
WWII, fall of Singapore; this date in 1963, bloodless coup in Iraq; this date in
1979, a coup in the Congo; 1425, "Indonesia Today," with business news; at
times fairly readable.

Re: Myanmar Radio - Ron Howard Feb 11 (Tue), 2020 18:54 UTC No.4335
MYANMAR. 5985, Myanmar Radio. On Feb 11, with very respectable signal and fairly readable;
interesting programs for the segment in English (1530-1558).

1530-1543: News (a visitor from Singapore was confined to a hospital for observation regarding
the novel coronavirus, but was released when found to be clear of the virus, etc.).

1543: Weather and "Myanmar Radio" SA (my audio at http://bit.ly/2SAFebJ).

1547: Youngsters singing the "Peace" song (my audio at http://bit.ly/2Hr9bG5).

1550: Public Service Announcement about the novel coronavirus and info from WHO (My audio
at http://bit.ly/2wc0NI9).

1554: Very nice promo for World Radio Day (upcoming on Feb 13); into "Voice of ASEAN, Beyond
Boundaries" program (My audio at http://bit.ly/2HdI8Ob). ?

Found the following info on-line, with very positive comments about the use of radio (my emphasis):

"This new ASEAN in Action (AiA) spin-off project aims to sustain as well as strengthen the knowledge
of ASEAN in the target areas. It is the re-branding of the twenty year old AiA radio project produced
and broadcast by the radio station of all the ASEAN Member States (AMS) but with enhanced features.
Taking into consideration that radio is the most efficient media, it has a strategic and vast potential
in helping the overall development of each of the AMS. Thus, by means of combining traditional and new
media in enhancing the project, radio can play a more active and constructive role in promoting the goals
of ASEAN and continue promoting greater awareness and understanding among the people of ASEAN
and beyond. Entitled “Voice of ASEAN ? Beyond Boundaries” (VoA-BB), this spin-off project will comprise
the annual production of one infotainment radio programme each by all ten ASEAN member states (AMS)
of 15 ? 30 minute duration focusing on the 18 ? 30 year age group for broadcast first in its own country
then exchanged for broadcast in the other AMS to enhance awareness about ASEAN among ASEAN
citizens and beyond ASEAN boundaries. Radio is again the chosen medium of this project because it
is still generally considered fast, cheap and easily accessible mean to disseminate information to
the people."

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(23) - Ron Howard Feb 12 (Wed), 2020 12:37 UTC No.4336
AUSTRALIA. 5055, Radio 4KZ, 1120, Feb 12. Billy Ocean singing "Caribbean Queen" ("No?More Love on the Run").?For the past 5 days, or so, have been hearing this at a decent level?(much better than normal) and able to SA most of?the pop songs played; even the news,?weather and commercial announcements are approaching the semi-readable?level. Nice!?Feb 9, with cut off at 1234:40 and the next day (10th) cut off about 6 seconds earlier (1234:34).

BHUTAN. 6035, BBS, 1038-1112*, Feb 12. Running later than usual; normally cuts off about?1030; announcers 1038-1049;?1049-1100, with pop music (Phil Collins - "Another Day In Paradise,"?etc.); 1100-1108, news in English (started and ended?with the usual BBS theme music); 1110 till cut?off at 1112*, with one pop song (Celine Dion - "My Heart Will Go On"). The?longer this station stays?on the air, the better my reception, as it slowly improves the whole time.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA[non-log]. 3260, NBC Madang. On Feb 12, another day with no activity here?(1114+), as Dan Robinson?also notes. Since late January, Madang has been noticeably silent on a?daily basis. Today had NBC Bougainville (3325) on the?air and mixing with weaker Voice of Indonesia,?also on frequency.

VANUATU[non-log]. 5040, Radio Vanuatu, random checking 1026+, on Feb 12. Yet another day with?no activity here.

February 13 - World Radio Day. Good news that R. Vanuatu is back on the air today, after being
absent for three days. Also an amazing reception from Voice of Indonesia, via Palangkaraya,
during English segment. Ron

INDONESIA. 3325 (via Palangkaraya) // 4749.95 (via Cimanggis/Jakarta), Voice of Indonesia.
Thanks very much to David Foster's posting to WOR iog "The 4750 transmitter was moved from
Makassar to Cimanggis." Feb 13, from 1108 to past 1326+. From 1108 till 1205*, NBC Bougainville
(3325) mixing with about equal strength to VOI's signal; as mess; after 1205, VOI on 3325 was in the
clear in Japanese. Today with the greatly improved signal, was able to tell VOI was actually about
4749.95, matching the former frequency of the Makassar transmitter now at Cimanggis. After 1300,
the English segment was well heard on 3325; news and "Today's Commentary"; "Today In History"
(this date in 1955, Israel acquired four of the seven Dead Sea Scrolls through a private sale; this date
1960, first French nuclear test of an atomic bomb; etc.). Outstanding reception. Fairly readable!

KBS Hanminjok Bangsong 1, on 6015, again with N. Korea jamming (the holiday is over!), at 1050. ?
?
Voice of Freedom, on 5920, at 1300, with the usual good reception (no jamming); "Aneun geos-i him-ida"?
("Knowing is power").?My audio at http://bit.ly/2UX4pb1. Am unable to understand what happened to the?
jamming that had been assigned to block VOF??Up to Dec 19, both VOF and strong N. Korea noise jamming?
had been on 6045 together; then on Dec 19, VOF moved down to?5920 to get away from the jamming. For?some
reason the jamming remained on 6045 for a long time; then on Feb 14, the?jamming was finally gone?from
6045, but didn't move down to 5920 to block VOF, instead showed up on 6135 (a former?frequency they?once
jammed for a long time even though there was no station there to be jammed) and I believe there is no
station there now to be jammed. Strange! Today (Feb 17) the strong noise jamming is still on 6135 (was?
silent yesterday,?along with all the other N. Korea jamming, due to their national holiday). It seems
N. Korea?is oblivious to the obvious fact?that VOF is on 5920 (a well known former VOF frequency!).
Of course I'm not?complaining! Is wonderful to enjoy good?reception of VOF, with no jamming.

Hello! Ron-san and Komatsubara

Nice catch! Ron-san.

It sounds like a local broadcasting station.

Your audio, the first song of the “Aneun geos-i him-ida” program is “The Story Of The Sky, The Sea, The Trees, The Stars“ song by Kwang Ho Cho.

Re: Vanuatu on 2485 and 3945 kHz. - Ron Howard Mar 01 (Sun), 2020 20:28 UTC No.4368
- - - - ?from WOR iog today (March 1), from Wolfie:

Today NZL DX Times magazine March 2020 arrived in PDF.format.
Local Time Vanuatu is at present UTC +11hrs.

Adrian Sainsbury-NZL
has posted news of Vanuatu shortwave transmissions.
Here are the details.

VANUATU VBTC FREQUENCY PLAN. EFFECTIVE FROM 01 MARCH 2020.

VILA Time UTC Time MARCH 2020
0530-1130 1830-0030 3945
1100-1800 0000-0700 5040
1800-2230 0700-1130 3945

2230-0530 1130-1830 2485 occasional use only.

- - - - posted by me today (March 1):

Hi Wolfie - Thanks for the new info. Yes, did notice some of the changes today (March 1). Ron

VANUATU. R. Vanuatu. As Rob Wagner and I have been noticing recently, RV is still getting
adjusted to their new transmitter and experimenting with their schedule. March 1, found 7260
was off the air when checking 0618-0700; whereas yesterday RV was here with an extended
broadcast thru 0659*.

March 1 (Sunday), did observe RV on 3945 kHz., *0700-0959*; long segments of chatting in
vernacular; usual religious segments of preaching in vernacular and religious songs (sounded
like Gaither Vocal Band - "Yes, I Know," etc.); doing fairly well on this frequency. As it was
Sunday, Japan was off the air here. My audio with one minute of "Yes, I Know" and four
minutes of preaching and ending with music, at ?http://bit.ly/389IMan.

From 1000-1005, checked 5040 and 7260 for any sign of RV, but clearly not there.

On 2485 kHz., tentatively did find RV, from 1037 till cut off at 1059*. The usual religious segments
of preaching and religious songs. Language and format sounded right to be RV, so am confident it
was them, but didn't catch a positive ID, as I would have liked to hear. ?

March 9, noted R. Vanuatu on 3945 kHz., randomly from 0725, till blocked by strong R. Nikkei 2 (Japan)?starting at *0950. Long segments of interviews in vernacular; played some Pacific Islands music; normal?audio. Assume 3945 closed down about 1000, but unable to confirm.

RV moved down to 2485 kHz., with transmitter on at *1000, when some faint audio was heard; rechecking?1037 till off at 1059:46* UTC, had decent carrier, but virtually no audio; they had lost almost all of their?modulation, unlike my recent very decent March 5 reception which had good audio. Was able to make out?SA (assumed) and clear NA just before 1059:46*, but this was nothing like their normal decent level of?reception. Hope this is just a temporary problem!

0901-0920: Speech before parliament, in English, about the Coronavirus/COVID-19 (phone numbers given?for communications?center, inspections being made at the airport, monitoring all arrivals, Bougainville?Emergency Response Team, etc.).

1000: PNG bird call and into the national NBC news in English (all the news was about Coronavirus/COVID-19); Samoa rugby?team is now in self-isolation, etc.

On March 21 (Saturday), at 1112, surprised to find VOH changed one frequency: 4885 (ex: 4890).?A rather strange?move on their part, as I have never heard the 60m band VOH frequency jammed,?even after years of monitoring them there. Never! So why the need to change? All the other VOH?frequencies observed the same as reported last Monday and no change today with any of the Voice?of the People frequencies.

AUSTRALIA. 5055, Radio 4KZ, on March 19, cut off at 1101:52* UT. March 23, noted 1055-1101:36*,
so going off about four seconds earlier every day; signal strong enough to be able to easily ID the pop
song (Paul Young - "Every Time You Go Away"); cut off during the news ("Thousand of jobs lost," etc.).

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 0858-1004 & 1027-1040 UT, March 23. Reception above the
norm; weather forecast; 0901, NBC news; all items dealing with Coronavirus/COVID-19, except for item
about the supreme court considering case about the constitution; promos for NBC TV; segments with pop
songs (Elton John - "Sacrifice," USA for Africa - "We Are The World," Michael Jackson - "Heal The World,"
etc.); many segments about ?Coronavirus/COVID-19 (schools suspended, etc.). Very enjoyable to hear them
at this decent level. Later at 1117, was only hearing Voice of Indonesia, with no NBC underneath (early off?).

CHINA. 3303-USB, Zhoushan Marine Meteorological Radio Station, 1109-1116 UT, March 23. Now that I have
started to again check this frequency, am hearing them daily with almost fair reception.

4940, Voice of Strait, 0945-0955 UT, Saturday, March 21. Weekend "Focus on China" with panel of experts
answering questions about Coronavirus/COVID-19; QRM from OTH radar, but still readable. ?

6185, China Huayi Broadcast Co. (presumed), 0924-0954 UT, March 20. Non-stop pop songs in English (Ricky
Martin - "Go Go Go Ale Ale Ale," etc.), with one brief announcer in Chinese; *0954, hit with strong VOK start
up, totally blocking CHBC.

6200-USB, VC01, Chinese military numbers station, 1132 UT, March 23. First day here; mixing with Tibet on
frequency. Seems to me rather a strange frequency to choice, as this is a long standing frequency of Tibet
and surely there are better frequencies? My audio at http://bit.ly/2Usions .

INDIA. 5040, AIR Jeypore, 1217+ UT, March 21, 22, 23. Back on the air again after a brief absence.

MALAYSIA[non-Sarawak]. 9835, Sarawak FM [non-log], via Kajang, 1106+ UT thru March 23. Still silent; am
only hearing Wai FM on 11665. ?

TAIWAN. 6215, Sound of Hope, 1103+ UT, March 22-23. Unusual to only find an open carrier here; both 6230
and 6280 were normal.

VANUATU[non-log]. R. Vanuatu. From 0930+ UT, thru March 23. Am still unable to hear RV on any of their
usual frequencies (2485, 3945, 5040 or 7260). Off the air or a complete change in their schedule?

was only hearing the VOI carrier.

INDIA. 5040, AIR Jeypore, 1211+ UT, March 24. Still on the air! Also noted 4810 and 4835 were also

from assume CNR1 (or VOI?), but no trace of audio, so was only hearing BB in the clear, which
is rare! Still running their Home Service during Ramadan. Will they change back to External
Service once that ends? Cyclone Amphan has mostly hit the coastal areas of Bangladesh, so
happy to find BB still on the air.

BTW - At 1233, on May 11, was checking for the Monday only SAARC (The South Asian Association
for Regional Cooperation) news bulletin in English, that was formerly noted on the HS from 1235 to
1243, but clearly not being carried; probably due to it being preempted during Ramadan; but instead
heard 1236-1239 with the Maghrib Islamic call-to-prayer; doing well against CNR1 QRM. ? ?

BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, NBC Bougainville, 1015-1130 and still on the air 1328+ UT, on May 21.
Preempted regular programs to provide mostly non-stop COVID-19 coverage in Pidgin (speeches,
PSAs, etc.); one pop song (Nazareth - "Love Hurts"); well above normal reception and fairly readable;
no VOI QRM; still continuing with extended COVID-19 coverage well past the normal 1200*.

VANUATU. 11835 (harmonic), R. Vanuatu, 0709 UT, on May 19. Stronger than China on frequency;
news in vernacular (COVID-19 government subsidies to private schools, etc.); 0714, sports news
(sound bites from the Minister for Youth Sports Development, Willie Pakoa Satearoto, etc.); 0716,
end of news; RV SA; // 3945 // 7890 (harmonic), both with poor reception.

Re: Asia - Pacific DX log(23) - Mauno May 25 (Mon), 2020 08:45 UTC No.4510
Thank you. But seems, that 15735 kHz is empty at 0840, so I wonder what the real schedule is. Or is it just irregular?

Yes, maybe irregular, (also 6025kHz)
